Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@LMM91x Flu jab is heavily reccomended for pregnant people, COVID totally up to you :)

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 16:23

@Recoba I get asked all the time why I don’t drink and I feel like people try and force it, god knows why?!! It’s ideal now though because I don’t have to have an excuse 🤣

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:23

I’ve not been sick yet @ChloeN but like you, I keep gagging which seems a bit dramatic 😂

Recoba · 14/12/2022 16:23

For flu jabs you can book via a pharmacy (e.g Boots/Lloyds/supermarket pharmacies), on the booking page you just say you're pregnant. Or you can book via the NHS site: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/book-flu-vaccination/

For the COVID vaccine, book via the NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:24

@BoodifulGoose did you feel ill after your vaccines? They only have appointments this weekend and I could really do without messing my plans up!

BoodifulGoose · 14/12/2022 16:24

Congrats @Havanalily1806 🥰
if you drive you could tell them you have to drive very early to visit someone the next day?

Or make your order then "nip to the toilet" and discreetly ask the bar staff to make yours a virgin?

BoodifulGoose · 14/12/2022 16:27

@Chocolotandtea I won't lie, I have felt awful today 😬 But I did also get my first morning sickness yesterday, so unsure if today has been the vaccines or the pregnancy!

Both my arms are really sore (one in each) but I've taken quite badly to every round of vaccines I've had. If you've been okay it'd hopefully stay that way for you, I was definitely expecting to feel rubbish given my history!

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 16:28

@Chocolotandtea its so weird isn’t it🤣🤣 I do actually feel better once I’ve been sick which is annoying

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:29

That sounds awful @BoodifulGoose i hope you feel better soon!

Decided I would rather be sick on work time and arranged an appointment for elsewhere next week 😂

LMM91x · 14/12/2022 16:32

@BoodifulGoose thank you! There’s appointments near me tomorrow so may go and get flu jab out the way !

BoodifulGoose · 14/12/2022 16:32

@Chocolotandtea thank you💙
Totally reasonable 😂 I ended up taking today off, but I do have holidays to use so think that helped the decision!

Had grand ideas of getting caught up with the housework I've been ignoring this week but only felt human this afternoon and now I cba again 😂

Alexandra07 · 14/12/2022 16:35

@AnnieApple123 i have hypothyroidism, did the GP change your levothyroxine dose? Mine went from 100/125 alternating to 125 every day. I booked blood tests in 4 weeks to check the effect. Go advised to see midwife after getting results back. I was told I'll be booked with consultant after I see the midwife. How come you see the consultant so early in the pregnancy?

I had done my flu jab before getting bfp. I am a teacher and I would have done it anyway. Too many germs and coughing children around! I had my covid booster (4th jab) on Saturday. Sunday morning I had fever and then I was fine. I don't want to risk anything. You do need to wait a bit if you recently had Covid. You can just go online and book it, you don't need to prove you are pregnant.

Amme18 · 14/12/2022 16:53

I will get my covid/flu anyway as I’m NHS, should have already had it but off work atm and not got round to it.

The nausea is awful 😫 I’d rather be sick and have done with it. Dramatic dry gagging here too 😅 Food aversions kicking in too, meat absolutely turns my stomach. And need to eat to keep the nausea at bay but also don’t want to eat. And the bloat is unreal, it’s SO uncomfortable 😫

PumpkinEverything · 14/12/2022 17:40

I got my flu vaccine before becoming pregnancy, I got a voucher from work.

can anyone book the Covid booster? I’ve only had the first 3. If it makes anyone feel better I had the first two whilst pregnant with mr daughter and didn’t feel any differently afterwards. I really struggled with my decision as when I got my first one they weren’t pushing pregnant women to get it so I felt like kr was a lot of pressure on me to decide what I wanted to do. Thankfully they then started encouraging it before I had my second jab so I felt like I’d done the right thing then

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 17:49

@AnnieApple123 I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea that Covid vaccines were even still a thing. Are people still getting them? I've never even had Covid and I've never had a booster. I got the two normal jabs but nothing since and don't intend to.

I had the flu vaccine in both previous pregnancies though and it was fine. I'll get it again this time.

@Mrs1stTimeMama I actually always found it a lot easier not to drink than I thought I would. I just used to either pour myself a glass of wine and pretend to sip it, or order my own drinks at a bar if I was out. Nobody really paid much attention with the exception of one friend when I was pregnant with DS1 but that's because we'd just got married and she knew we wanted a baby. So she clocked pretty early but didn't say anything until I announced my pregnancy at which point she just said yeah....I knew as soon as you poured a glass of wine and it was still full after 2 hours 😂

Havanalily1806 · 14/12/2022 17:54

Can anyone tell me how soon I should contact my GP? Or when everyone else did? 1st pregnancy so it's all new to me.

@BoodifulGoose the driving thing won't really work as it's so close to my house I could walk 🙈 I am planning on saying I have an early appointment so can't drink "too much" and just hoping no one notices! I'll definitely need to do the trick of ordering and not drinking it

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 18:00

@Havanalily1806 I didn't contact my GP I just referred myself to the antenatal department at the hospital I want to give birth at. With my first pregnancy I went via the GP and it was just slower, all the GP does it refer you straight to antenatal so they're basically just a middle man. They don't take a test or do anything maternity related so they really don't need to know 🙂

Alexandra07 · 14/12/2022 18:01

@Havanalily1806 I booked with the GP after 5 weeks and on the same day I self referred to my local hospital's maternity ward. I wanted to have a full missed period before calling/booking.

LMM91x · 14/12/2022 18:07

@Havanalily1806 hey congratsn it’s my first too ❤️. I followed the lovely ladies on here advice and just self referred and didn’t bother calling GP. I was shocked at the process as thought they’d maybe at least do a test at GP but nope just straight to maternity unit. I referred maybe 10 days ago but not heard anything yet x

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 18:11

@Havanalily1806 where I live you have to ring the GP who then gives you the number to refer yourself. I guess it just depends on how they do it where you are xx

CityKity · 14/12/2022 18:16

@Havanalily1806 congrats! I also followed these lovely ladies advice and self referred at around 5 weeks. I emailed off a form on the 5th Dec and got a letter on the 10th Dec with details for my anti natal appointment.

BusyBushBaby · 14/12/2022 18:29

I had both flu and covid vaccines before becoming pregnant to avoid having to make this decision. TBH I'd be reluctant to have the covid vaccine in the first trimester of pregnancy, but that's because I've had significant fevers after 3 of the 4 covid vaccines I've had.

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 18:55

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 18:11

Ah really! I assumed you'd be able to self refer everywhere. Weird how they gatekeep the numbers for self referrals though! If I had to go through my GP I'd have probably had the baby before I got my referral through

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 19:15

@somuchtolearnabout tbh I didn’t actually look for the number myself, it might be out there somewhere 🤣

marleyandme · 14/12/2022 19:18

@somuchtolearnabout it's so different in different areas! Mine you can't self refer at all and have to contact your GP who refers you themselves. I didn't have much hope but I got my midwife and scan appointment through within a week so can't complain!
