Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

Hi Mama's To Be,

Hope it's OK to join you!
Countdown is on to August 23 - Due 21st (Although no scans as yet).

Very much my first time so any must know tips and tricks for 4 weeks please do let me know!

My main concern is how I get through Christmas without drinking, we've decided to keep it quiet until we're over the 3 month hurdle. Any suggestions?!

Also, no idea on the lingo. Is there a cheat sheet?

X

@Mrs1stTimeMama Hello there and welcome ❤️❤️

we have discussed the drinking dilemma many a time - it’s bloody impossible !! I’ve had to take the last week off work before xmas because there’s just no way i’ll get theough the lunches and socialising without it being super obvious 🤣 luckily I had holiday to use up!

i did go out just after I found out and as soon as I did find out I was laying it on thick in work about headaches feeling rough yada yada… i’ve actually had brain surgery (i know check me out) before so i’m in ways lucky that I just relate stuff all back to that and no one really questions it 🤣🤣). I would say start early and lay the groundwork as to why you might not be drinking at any one time!
i’ve told my mum and best friend so i’m covered mostly with someone to help me dodge drinks if needed etc. Also you’d hope that even if people think it they don’t just call it out in front of wveryone (its hard not to be suspicious that someones pregnant if not drinking ! )

sorry bit of a ramble that in the end 🤣🤣

how are you feeling anyway?? I’m 6 weeks on friday and time is literally going so so slowly!

Alexandra07 · 14/12/2022 13:31

@mum2b29 sorry for the bad news, I hope it will work out for you soon! 💐

@Mrs1stTimeMama in a couple of occasions I just had a soft drink and nobody questioned it. Once I said, I just don't feel like drinking today too tired/ have to do other things when home. And congratulations!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 14/12/2022 13:36

@Mrs1stTimeMama Congratulations!
this is my first pregnancy too, nearly 5 weeks and we are not wanting to share it with anybody until after the first three months.
I am really struggling with the Christmas drinking scenario. I have already done the “I’m on antibiotics” trick.
i am usually the one at the bar ordering the shots, so everybody is going to know something is up. So any tricks in this regard are welcome 😊

Adventureofalifetimexo · 14/12/2022 14:23

Hi❤️❤️.

First time mum here, I'm really anxious about pregnancy and just found out last week I'm about 4/5 weeks pregnant according to when my last period was. I'm so happy but like I said, super nervous and feel like it's robbing me of my happiness a bit if that makes any sense?

In terms of symptoms I've got tender boobs but one boob is sorer than the other at times and the cramps in my belly (mild at most, it does tend to move from left to right). My lower back is so sore as well. All I'm wondering is the back pain normal and the boob thing?

Thank you in advance guys, just trying to stay off google because it's doing me absolutely no favours. Xxxx

Lalalul · 14/12/2022 14:24

@Mrs1stTimeMama welcome and congratulations! We didn’t want to tell anyone yet, but have ended up telling 5 of my close family members because I can’t be on antibiotics 3 weekends in a row! I thought if anything happened we would tell them anyway, so may as well tell them. It feels weird considering I am just over 5 weeks and have 0 symptoms. With friend groups im using the antibiotics excuse or finding a reason to drive, but to be honest I think they have seen straight through it. I never choose to drive and always have a drink! It is what it is, they will find out anyway and like I say I would tell some people if things went wrong anyway. Interested to hear what you can come up with and if it works!

@LMM91x @Alexandra07 @MinnieFirstTimeMum thanks for the lovely warm welcome!

I'm definitely with you @MinnieFirstTimeMum as am usually the bad influence! And some one told me the antibiotics trick everyone sees through, i thought it was solid!

Thanks for all of the tips and laying the ground work is great advice @LMM91x

I'm thinking when everyone's not looking I'm going to have to pour it in a plant or down the sink ha!

Blondbombsite · 14/12/2022 14:52

Can I join please!

I’m newly pregnant with DC2 and should be due on 25th August.

DS is 13 months. We got married last month and thought we should try as we’d had a few issues before and I’m nearly 37 but we’ve ended up with a honeymoon pregnancy 😆

I tested at 10dpo and got a faint positive (that got darker over the week) but am officially late now and have a strong BFP so am starting to believe it.

CityKity · 14/12/2022 15:02

@Mrs1stTimeMama welcome and congratulations!! I’m 6 weeks and have had to do a couple of parties already. My favourite trick was decanting a bottle of non-alcoholic wine into a cleaned out wine bottle and enthusiastically topping myself up over dinner. I helps that I’m the only white wine drinker in that particular group, so no one blinked an eyelid.
Another one is having a can of beer at a party, fake drinking it, then went to the bathroom to pour it out and topped up with my bottle of water.
Overall I’ve found it easier that I thought to hide not drinking, especially in bigger events. I’ll offer to go to the bar, order myself a G&T (without the G) and hope no one comes to help. People really tend to be more interested in themselves than others.

I’m more worried about the Christmas Day sit down meal with my small family, as still not sure how to avoid the wine/champagne when we’re glued to the table.

AnnieApple123 · 14/12/2022 15:27

Sorry not been keeping up the past few days. I’m still stuck indoors with a sick toddler and getting very fed up now.

@mum2b29 So sorry to hear this news.

And sorry to hear @TheBirdintheCave that you’re not feeling more reassured.

Have you all had/booked your Covid and flu boosters? I’ve just had my thyroid blood test done and got a lot of disapproval for not having organised these yet.

Recoba · 14/12/2022 15:39

@AnnieApple123 was going to get my COVID booster on Sunday, but then was struck down by DS's cold and didn't overly fancy being doubly sick. General recommendation I've heard is either get them on the same day or a couple of weeks apart.

Though I wasn't really sure whether you needed to provide proof when you went along (so wait until after the booking appointment).

sally16 · 14/12/2022 15:45

@CityKity get nosecco! And make non alcoholic mimosas! A lot of people don't even catch on it's mom alcoholic half the time!

sally16 · 14/12/2022 15:47

@AnnieApple123 I've opted against the covid booster. I've had 2 and a booster previously but been torn down by covid 4 times now through work so I don't think the booster will give me any more help now 🤣 and I was so poorly last time 🫠
Got my flu at work but midwives not even asked about either.. I thought it was later pregnancy they asked about flu?

BoodifulGoose · 14/12/2022 15:51

@AnnieApple123 I hope you're all on the mend 💙

I went for mine yesterday, didn't need to provide any proof @Recoba
I was also sick for the first time this pregnancy this morning and took off work today, been feeling pretty shocking 😬 but hoping it's pregnancy combined with vaccines, as I've not taken well to precious ones, and not just what it's going to be like now!

AnnieApple123 · 14/12/2022 15:51

@Recoba Yes I was wondering about proof too, since anyone could go along and claim to be pregnant!

@sally16 I was erring on the side of not having the Covid booster either but have been made to feel now that this is an unacceptable choice. I have an obstetrician appointment on Monday so will discuss it with her. Hopefully she’ll be more reasonable.

Welcome to everyone whose just joined, think we must nearly be to the end of august due dates now?😯

I had a callback to book in my midwife appt, 3rd jan so I’ll be nearly 10 weeks. I’ve also finally braved booking the early scan for that weekend also!

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:02

Dumb question maybe but how are people getting their covid boosters/flu jags?

BoodifulGoose · 14/12/2022 16:15

@Chocolotandtea I just booked mine through www.nhsinform.scot/wintervaccines :)

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:16

@BoodifulGoose amazing thank you!!!

Havanalily1806 · 14/12/2022 16:16

Hi

Tentatively joining, had a positive test yesterday and my due date is calculating at 24th august. Had a CP last cycle so feeling very cautious.

However the last minute news that I am pregnant, with a works Christmas Day drinks planned for Friday, which is in work time so can't really duck out, with me previously planning and discussing what cocktails to have and mentioning baby Guinness numerous times... is now a bit of a problem 🙈. It's also a meal so ordering drinks around a table with people I think will be difficult!

I’d be interested to know this too. I’m currently on the fence.

LMM91x · 14/12/2022 16:18

Have I missed something but are we supposed to get a 4th covid jab??? Are we now considered vulnerable? I had covid last month so wouldn’t rush to get another jab tbh. Are we advised to get flu jab??? Sorry I had no idea 🤣

Chocolotandtea · 14/12/2022 16:18

Also I am feeling soooo nauseous today 😭 any remedies anyone can recommend?

Recoba · 14/12/2022 16:20

Thanks @BoodifulGoose , that's good to know! Now booked in for Sunday, though hoping it doesn't knock me out too much as my Mum is visiting for pre-Christmas Christmas. Optimistically booked my flu jab for Friday in case I've recovered from this cold by then!

I've not really been affected by the not drinking thing as I don't tend to drink anyway, but whenever I've noticed friends or colleagues not drinking I've always stayed quiet - if they're pregnant it's clear they're not ready to tell people, and if you have decency/integrity you don't push that.

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 16:21

@LMM91x I know nothing about jabs either, i guess they say at the midwife appt??

@Chocolotandtea no lol I’m still being sick or gagging everyday🤣 I feel sick when I don’t eat but also sick when I do🤦🏻‍♀️ have you been sick so far?xx
