I didn't really want a baby shower but my friends and family are super keen so we are compromising... not traditional or anything but we are going to have a we're going to be busy/away for a little bit while we would like to see you before the baby arrives thing at a friend's house. More of a catch-up with food and some drinks for close friends and family. I'm just going to pick a date and my friends will organise it which is really sweet of them .

havanamama · 01/01/2023 20:16

I’m sick and been struggling with the increased heart rate due to that. My resting heart rate is literally 94!!!
I was getting dressed this morning and that set me to 148!
I will speak with the midwife about it as it’s exhausting to have a permanently racing heart.

My resting heartrate was 102-104 in hospital last week and the time before, midwife said it was roght on the border line for being 'high', they werent worried though.

Cats23 · 01/01/2023 23:12

I haven't had a baby shower for any of mine ( It wasnt really a thing with my older 2- now 19&15) I haven't wanted one either and made it known I haven't too.
Ive only been to a few and personally, found them all a bit ott, I did also feel my gift was unappreciated, I bought a lovely set of Babygrows but in comparrison to what other guests had bought- eg A well known wollen mill company blanket, Which would've cost atleast £30 more than my £10 gift, I felt it was a bit awkward when we were all sat in a circle with the mum to be opening gifts..

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 02/01/2023 00:55

@Cats23 thats exactly what puts me off baby showers, that you have to sit there and open presents in front of anyone. I’d never expect a gift from anyone and have hated the whole present opening thing as a guest before let alone the mum doing the opening.

Hopingforarainbow27 · 02/01/2023 05:58

Hi. Not sure if you all have discussed this yet. I'm 31 weeks now, with that cold/flu going about and I've hardly slept with a chesty cough. I've tried the honey, lemon and slept propped up all night. Has anyone any other tips? What can we take? Hoping boots is open today with jt being bank holiday!

Franklin321 · 02/01/2023 07:12

I’m having a lunch with friends but relaxed and I’ve made it very clear I do not want decorations or games 😅 (have hinted towards a massage voucher as a pressie tho 🤣) it’s just a great excuse for everyone to have some child free time together really!

@havanamama my resting heart rate is about 100-104, although am low in iron (waiting for prescription) which can cause that! I’m guessing you had your blood tests done again to check that at 28 weeks?

@Hopingforarainbow27 unfortunately just paracetamol I think 😭 get a saline nasal spray if you’re bunged up but it’s very limited what you can use. I had it just before Christmas and was rubbish ☹️

Hopingforarainbow27 · 02/01/2023 07:26

@Franklin321 does the paracetamol help a cough? I hope baby is ok!

Franklin321 · 02/01/2023 07:31

@Hopingforarainbow27 no I doubt it but it will help with any other cold/flu symptoms you have

dmb91 · 02/01/2023 07:47

Also not a fan of baby showers! Personally I couldn't think of anything worse and have made that very clear to everyone so hoping to avoid one 🤞

Cats23 · 02/01/2023 07:48

A GP friend of mine said the best thing for a sore throat and cough is Pineapple juice! If you research it, the evidence is strong that this is true too.
I have recently had the same and used pineapple juice, cough meds, vix on chest and synex to clear my nose.

Blocklynn · 02/01/2023 08:22

I’ve been to a few baby showers. One was just a friends meeting for brunch type thing and the other had games and a buffet.
I enjoyed them both. Wouldn’t want to open presents infront of people though.
I’d quite like one but I know my husband wouldn’t organise it and my sister is getting married on 4th Feb so my family are busy thinking about that.
Would be weird to ask if they were arranging something and don’t want to put more pressure on them but I think I’d be disappointed if I didn’t get one at all so not sure what to do.

ChristmasJumpers · 02/01/2023 08:46

Morning all, I think I've just felt baby's hiccups for the first time. Just little gentle bumps but every 2 seconds or so 🥰 so cute!!!

I am having a baby shower but my mum is planning it and so far hasn't actually planned anything! I don't want to nag her about it but do want to make sure it actually happens and people get a date for it in plenty of time. I think we're just going to do a bit of buffet food at either her house or mine with family and close friends. Hopefully a few games as I have enjoyed them at other people's showers. Opening presents in front of a crowd does freak me put a bit though!!

Baby2iscooking · 02/01/2023 08:50

@Hopingforarainbow27 double check but I think you can have first defends flu spray the nasal one, this is meant to be good

Franklin321 · 02/01/2023 09:12

@Blocklynn i don’t think it would be weird to ask, I arranged the WhatsApp group for mine because I had everyone’s numbers and then just left the group allocating a friend to do the rest 😂

Dreamingof3 · 02/01/2023 09:26

I had a surprise baby shower at work for my first 😂 it was also for another girl pregnant at the same time so was nice not to be the centre of attention! I absolutely hate attention (dreading my wedding 😭) so anything like that is an absolute no from me.
Also feel it's a bit weird when you all sit round and watch the mum to be open presents 😒

beatingheartbaby · 02/01/2023 10:18

I'm having a small family gathering with only a few close friends as I don't want anything big.

Question to those who are having a shower/have had one in the past, are you inviting your mother in law?

iratepirate · 02/01/2023 11:30

No baby shower here either. I can’t stand attention so it really is my idea of hell. Luckily my DH knows this so would dissuade anyone who didn’t but I think my friends know well enough that I wouldn’t feel comfortable.

Bit concerned that I’m not feeling a lot of movement today. We’re hill walking this morning and I was hoping that a bit more walking would wake baby up a little but even drinks of cold water haven’t really helped. Hoping I feel something by the time we make it down the other side of the hill 🫤

havanamama · 02/01/2023 12:04

No baby shower, but if we did, we would invite my MIL and do it together with my husband and other significant males in our life, as the only female thing is a bit odd concept to me.

Thank you guys for the advice! I called MAC and they reassured me that resting HR below 100 is fine, especially when fighting a cold.

If you have a cold, the only thing you can do is take Paracetamol 4x day 6h apart, throat soothers, lots of teas, the pregnancy safe saline sprays for clearing up nose, and doing steam inhalations.

Also got told my iron & haemoglobin levels are good - they want ferritin above 30 and haemoglobin above 105 apparently

Franklin321 · 02/01/2023 12:06

@iratepirate I always find when I’m busy and walking I don’t feel the kicks as much and only when I stop does she go mad…I think the movement lulls them to sleep! Saying that if you’re worried you should always ring and get checked!

iratepirate · 02/01/2023 12:11

Thank you @Franklin321 we’ve just stopped at the top for a drink but certainly hoping that I’ll feel more when we’ve finished. I do feel more movement in the evenings, I guess as you say it’s more likely when you’ve finished rushing about it the day.
Will def give them a call when we’re back at the car if I haven’t felt any more and DH could drop me at the hospital on the way back if there’s anyone there to see me.

My resting heart rate is 120 ish but I’ve got bad aneamia at the moment. I’m a nurse so I’ve got my own blood pressure and hear rate monitor and it goes up to 165 somtimes from doing nothing 🥴 midwife not worried tho. It just feels awful and makes you feel breathless heart racing all the time. Hoping if my blood levels pick up I’ll start to feel better 💪🏻 X

Room4onemore · 02/01/2023 14:17

I’m getting breathless a lot of the time now and I’m so uncomfortable, I find a position where I can sit comfortably, it’s starting to annoy me

Babynum2 · 02/01/2023 14:27

@AK93 I'm having a baby shower in couple weeks I've had not 1 bit of involvement for the simple fact I don't have the energy. My mum and bestfriend have planned it all I'm just turning up.

Room4onemore · 02/01/2023 14:41

I’m in the bath at the minute, only place I’m not breathless and I’m reasonably comfy, sent hubby to get me a gym ball to bounce on

TeddyBeans · 02/01/2023 16:39

Oooh I love a bath! Probably having a bath 5 out of 7 days at the moment, it's so comfy and relaxing
