It still feels very early but I’m taking a leap of faith and starting a thread here.

Just found out yesterday that I’m due at the very start of August.

Anybody else yet?

@TheBirdintheCave I’m actually quite on flights! I struggle to sleep on a normal night in my own bed but for some reason, put me on a flight and I’m out like a light. Appreciate that might be different when pregnant though!

planned to start with 4 days in Tokyo and travel to Osaka, Kyoto and maybe Hiroshima. I just wasn’t sure if this would maybe be exhausting in 2nd trimester but would love to know what you think as you’ve been before?

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 17:49

@MsRT no advice but I’m so sorry for your loss, can’t imagine how hard that just be xx

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 17:51

Also can any already mums tell me the consensus on hot tubs? We have a book to Iceland booked already for February and was so excited about the hot springs but I assume it’s a no go? Google is giving me very mixed answers - generally not advised for pregnant women but then on Icelandic websites it says women are welcome?

also have a spa day booked in the coming weeks which we have waited weeks for and have spent all my bday money and I’m sad about possibly no jacuzzi but safety comes first and would love to know what others think?

ellie0605 · 26/11/2022 17:58

@Chocolotandtea I avoid hot baths and hot tubs when pregnant. I hate it because I love them!

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 18:09

@ellie0605 im sad for all the hot baths I did not take advantage of!

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 18:16

Hope you have a good time tonight when you are there @DesertSnow !
And no, you've been very helpful! Thank you 😁
And thank you for that lovely complement 💙

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 18:17

@Chocolotandtea OH NO. I have a spa day booked next Sunday 😭😂 didn't even think of this, thank you for the reminder!

ellie0605 · 26/11/2022 17:58

@Chocolotandtea I avoid hot baths and hot tubs when pregnant. I hate it because I love them!

Me too :( I was thinking of asking my sister in law for some Lush stuff for Christmas and then realised I can't have hot baths 😭

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:10

@BoodifulGoose is it definitely a no
go? Clearly I’m looking for a lip hole that doesn’t exist 😂

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:10

Loop^

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 19:19

@Chocolotandtea So your temp is raised already being pregnant, and being in a hot tub or bath raises your temp and increases liklihood of dehydration, fainting, etc.

Looking for the same loop hole (😂) we were like, okay cool, so as long as I drink well and maybe only go in for a bit and pay attention to how I feel it's okay, but then we looked further and the temperature change is most risky in the first 12 weeks so I'm going to give it a miss unfortunately :(

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:21

@BoodifulGoose I think my fear is more it being too hot for baby. I love for warmth and think I’d survive 😂 but jokes aside, better safe than sorry and I’ll be avoiding it too. Least we can swim 😀

ChloeN · 26/11/2022 19:21

@BoodifulGoose I still have baths, not hot just warm but I think I’d avoid hot tubs and jacuzzis too, they make me feel ill even when I’m not pregnant🤣

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:23

I’m now worried about all the hot water bottles I was sleep with before I knew I was pregnant…

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 19:26

@Chocolotandtea Indeed! 😁

@ChloeN hahaha honestly same, this was my first one in ages for exactly that reason 😂 I'm not a fan of hot baths either so at least I'm not missing out on things I usually enjoy!

@Chocolotandtea Same! I thought I was getting my period so used them a fair bit, but honestly until week 8 it's its own self reliant little sac/thing, so I think It's okay? 🙃😅

ChloeN · 26/11/2022 19:27

@Chocolotandtea dont worry, I’m pretty sure it’s only if you’re getting really hot and you overheat! I’m sure lots of people lay in the sun getting hot before they know they’re pregnant and I’d say that’s probably worse!

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 19:27

And hot water bottles won't raise your whole body temp as hard as submerging in a hot bath or Jacuzzi, which I think is the risk!

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:29

That’s so true @ChloeN and @BoodifulGoose - just such a nerve wracking time, you question literally
everything you do, even from before you knew xx

Chocolotandtea · 26/11/2022 19:39

Can you all please share what your favourite not drinking excuses are? I have a big birthday night out, girls weekend away and 2 Xmas parties coming up in December alone. I don’t mind telling my closest gal pals as there’s no way I’ll get away with it but I don’t want to be telling my work colleagues at the Xmas parties xx

ChloeN · 26/11/2022 19:41

@Chocolotandtea maybe you got really pissed the weekend before and you can’t cope with another hangover?🤣🤣

BoodifulGoose · 26/11/2022 19:48

@Chocolotandtea me too, but trying to rationalise it as plenty of women don't find out until much later than us and probably do a lot 'worse' things than we did!

My mum had a 4 day festival bender about 6 weeks pregnant with me because she didn't find out until the weekend after 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 26/11/2022 19:55

Sorry was dealing with bath and bedtime missed everyone's responses!

We are actually gonna find out the gender. We found out with DS1 (husbands choice) and had a surprise with DS2 (my choice) but I actually found not knowing really underwhelming! DH was the one who told me the sex when he was born and I couldn't have cared less at that moment. He could've told me I'd given birth to a baboon and I'd just have been glad it was out. We had a private gender scan with DS1 and it was a really special day, we found out together and celebrated and just for us personally, we preferred it. So we are going to do the same this time and have an early gender scan, because sod waiting until 20 weeks! If I know I'm finding out then I want to know now 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 26/11/2022 20:02

@Chocolotandtea mums best friend is my midwife and I've asked her every question under the sun about do's and dont's during pregnancy and she was completely honest and said the jacuzzi rule is one that is more "guidance" as opposed to absolute no-no. She always told me use my initiative and if you feel even remotely too hot at any point, get out immediately. The no alcohol rule is also very outdated and is mainly aimed at heavy drinkers, don't get shitfaced and don't drink before 12w but towards the end of your pregnancy, if a glass of wine will relax you then it really isn't that bad. Raw meat is an absolute no-no, as is raw fish (unless you can guarantee it's been frozen first) and unpasteurised cheese.

I continued having hot baths when pregnant both times, and also went in a jacuzzi once both pregnancies too as I had spa days booked. I have a spa day booked again in December and I'll prob use the jacuzzi again then, just not for very long.

At the end of the day, only do what you're comfortable with. And trust your instincts xxx

xylophone · 26/11/2022 20:03

@Chocolotandtea Accept the first drink, spend a lot of time holding it but not really drinking it. If /when someone tries to buy you another drink you say perhaps you’ll have a soft drink this time because the last one has given you a headache.

somuchtolearnabout · 26/11/2022 20:05

@AnnieApple123 I had the NIPT last time too, I'm with Kings and had high Nuchal fluid reading with DS2 so they sent my bloods off for a harmony test. Worst 2 week wait of my whole life! Did you get yours done privately?
