Spink2022 · 11/11/2022 20:04

Hi me and a couple of other lucky ladies have got our BFPs following ivf and wanted to create a new thread for others on their early pregnancy journey. I am 5+2 and my first scan is at 6+6. I’m very nervous something will go wrong.

Currently my symptoms are:

  • very heavy, swollen, sore breasts
  • some morning sickness
  • burping and gas
  • bloated
  • tiredness

@Ems123456789 thank you so much for tte kind words .. this is our 4th miscarriages.. did you have to get a D&C ? I think I want to wait to see if it comes away naturally?! Or is there a tablet you can take to induce it ? We have one frozen left but think we will book a holiday first before we put it in .. this was our 4th transfer and done the 4 one after the other do I think I need a break for a while before the next one .. hope you are ok after your miscarriage and thanks again xx

hopefullsosbry · 03/01/2023 20:42

I had a hematoma aswell, never had bleeding but I wonder if that has caused it to separate from the placenta stopping oxygen etc as it did get bigger .. baby was fine 10 days ago I just can’t get my head around it 😔

maybebaby2023 · 03/01/2023 20:49

@Bubbafever i may be completely wrong but I think they measure fluid on the baby’s neck during the 12w scan to check for Down’s Syndrome and that’s why it’s called nuchal translucency. Mine is next Wed ☺️ and have my first midwife appt tomorrow.

@hopefullsosbry I’m so so sorry 😞 sending you a big hug. Were your other miscarriages around the same gestation, is there any way you can push to find out if somethings causing it to happen? Definitely take a relaxing holiday to take stock and come back ready to try again, it will happen ❤️

Ems123456789 · 03/01/2023 20:54

So sorry to hear @hopefullsosbry it was your 4th. This was my 3rd round of ivf but second miscarriage. 2nd round I have an ectopic.

I was earlier than you as mine stopped growing at 7 weeks. I had to wait 8 days for a further nhs scan as they were so busy, I found that quite difficult because I just wanted to get on with the process. At that point they gave me all 3 options of natural, medical (take tablets to bring it on) or surgery. I chose medical because I just had this feeling my body wasn’t going to let it go. My nhs visit was on 23rd December and so I then didn’t want to go home and take the medicine to have a miscarriage over Xmas so waited til 27th, things still hadn’t come away naturally so I took the medicine.

have you had any testing done on your recurrent miscarriages? We have one embryo frozen and I’m reluctant to transfer it until I perhaps get some more tests done.

Bubbafever · 03/01/2023 21:05

@hopefullsosbry I am so sorry. This process is so difficult. As the others say, has anyone indicated the cause of the recurrent miscarriages? I think there are specialists and specific tests. Sending you virtual hugs xx

@hopefullsosbry I'm so unbelievably sorry to hear this and really am shocked by the news. Here whenever you need us and I hope you have a good support network around you. I would also push for all the recurrent miscarriage testing, usually if it's chromosomal it wouldn't go past 8 weeks so I would definitely push to ensure your frostie gets the best chance. All thinking of you ❤️

@habiller so sorry as well that's super tough for you but you never know what the future will hold. For now if you can focus on the baby I know it must be extremely hard though when you have an image of what life will be like.

So sorry for you guys and hoping that you feel better soon ❤️

Spink2022 · 04/01/2023 07:59

@hopefullsosbry i am so so sorry. That is absolutely awful and such a shock for you. I really hope you have lots of support around you and as others have said we are here if you need. A holiday and a break sounds like what you need after 4 rounds!

@habiller im really sorry. That is heartbreaking. I don’t think it sounds ungrateful. You’ve lost a baby and need to be able to grieve for that loss. As always we are here for support if you need it

@Bubbafever i had my nhs scan yest. They just do a normal scan but measure the gap in the neck. Our scanner did it 3 times to make sure from different angles and told us there and then it was in the normal range. Baby was in bad positions so I had to do a lot of wiggling and moving to wake baby up and move them. Then I had to do a urine sample and blood test and get weighed. They said the results would come in 2 weeks via post but maybe more depending on Royal Mail. She did say if there were problems then they would call. She told me to make an apt with my midwife for 16 weeks and I’ve got the consultant next week. They were running really behind and that was first thing in the morning so prepare to be waiting around. I was there for about 1.5 hours in total. Maybe a little longer. But my scan took much longer than it should because of positioning.

im officially in the second trimester today! Feels like an achievement. But I’m still being sick at least twice a day. I was hoping to feel better now but never mind! At least it’s not 4 times a day!

@hopefullsosbry I'm so so sorry to hear this news. Absolutely heartbreaking for you, thinking about you and sending you virtual hugs. I hope you get the support and time to heal after this. A holiday definitely sounds like a plan and maybe some time to process things. 🤍

@habiller so sorry to hear about one of twins, I'm sure your going through a range of emotions, our 1st early scan indicated twins too but one was measuring 10 days behind the other. Thinking of you 😘

hopefullsosbry · 04/01/2023 15:16

Thanks for all your lovely messages, means so much had the scan with nhs and they have referred us to the rescuers y miscarriage clinic .. @Ems123456789 did you get sore with the tablets .. ? I have the tablets to start tomorrow to induce the miscarriage .. f I don’t chicken out I’ll do it tomorrow .. they said when I pass the fetous I can send it away and get it tested to see if there were abnormal chromosomes so that’s good I guess to see what if they can see what the cause may have been for it to stop developing, time will tell I guess,
@habiller so sorry to here you’re loss .. fingers crossed that you continue to have a healthy pregnancy with your other wee bean 💖

Ems123456789 · 05/01/2023 20:08

So sorry @habiller for your news. I can imagine it’s such a mixed bag of emotions and I don’t think there’s a black and white way of looking at it. I hope that you can work through the mixed feelings with loved ones.

@hopefullsosbry I hope you are doing okay. I did have pain yes, started off like bad period pains and then got worse for about 2 hours where I did have a few choice words but I took a codeine pill they gave me and hot water bottle was a god send and once it had passed it resolved quite quickly. I was exhausted the day after so rested a lot. Bleeding was heavy for about 4 more days before petering off to a lighter bleed. It’s not a pleasant experience but personally for me I felt like it gave me more closure than opting for surgery. But everyone is different! The EPU nurse told me people are very 50/50 on their choices.
I hope you are okay. I actually just did a pregnancy test (9 days since my miscarriage) and it’s still positive but they said it could take 3 weeks and at that point if it’s still positive I’d have to go back into the EPU. I hope that’s not the case. I feel 10x better now in terms of energy - the most I’ve had since October before starting ivf drugs.

I hope everyone else’s journeys are going okay, it’s good to see some positive outcomes considering how gruelling the IVF process is for everyone

hopefullsosbry · 07/01/2023 01:34

@Ems123456789 thanks for sharing, I have read a few peoples experiences with the pill and chickened out, it sounds brutal, thankfully it has started naturally, so hopefully wont need the pill, thanks everyone for all your support, this thread has been a god send through this whole process and I appreciate everyone’s advice and comments, although I didn’t get the result this time we will keep trying, I may go quite on here now but I wish everyone thee best of luck with everything, we all deserve our happy ending, you are all strong and amazing woman each and every one of us ! take care guys xx💖

@habiller im so glad you’re speaking to your therapist to help process.

I can’t help with the endocrinologist sorry.

however like you I am struggling with insomnia! It’s like I’m in a half sleep and I’m constantly disturbed and waking up and tossing and turning! I thought it was because I’m sick every evening so I’m going to bed on an empty stomach!

@habiller oh I had that being awake from 1-5am a few weeks ago. It did pass. Now i can’t get to sleep. It’s like my brain switches on when I lie down even though I’m really tired! Then I’m not properly asleep all night. I play white noise all night which I find really helps. Maybe try that?

I went back to work this week and it was brutal! but I made it to the weekend 🙏🙏

Just had my NT scan. Baby didnt play ball at all - I had to go for a walk and drink more and the scanning lady had to really push hard! I am sure I am going to bruise but at least baby is ok. Strangely this was the first scan I was not too stressed about. I hope the calm continues...

How are you getting on?

Baggingarea · 10/01/2023 11:41

Sorry I've been so neglectful of this thread. I'm so sorry to hear of your losses @habiller @Ems123456789 and @hopefullsosbry . Hope you are looking after yourselves and I am thinking of you ❤

NS05 · 10/01/2023 14:35
