Your midwife will probably book your scan whilst you’re at the appointment. Exciting! I’m not sure when to tell my parents. I’m a bit nervous to tell them because they (and I) thought I was infertile because of what the doctors said. I’ve also recently started my job so I’m worried about telling them too even though it seems like a supportive organisation! I’m in my mid 20s but feel so unprepared (but still excited)!

I think I will tell my employer after my 1st appt with midwife (If I last this long), as I am feeling unwell, and maybe it would make the whole experience less lonely 🤐It's so hard hiding nausea from people at work. With telling family, I will wait until 12 weeks, as I don't want any questions or good advice like "eat as much as you can" or my mum telling me what her pregnancy cravings were given that it's totally unrelatable to me (can you tell I don't have the best relationship with her? lol)

Is anyone not getting a reassurance scan before their NHS 12-week one? I had one first time around because of some bleeding at 7 weeks, but this time I haven't had the same so I'm debating whether to get one or not. I'm in two minds as I know I'd find it reassuring but then I'm also thinking that if the worst happened, I can't prevent it either way? Also, sadly I feel like money is quite tight in the run up to Christmas and spending £80 on a 15 min scan is a lot right now....it's tricky, because if it makes me and my partner feel happy at the time then it's worth it right? But I don't know whether it's also kind of pointless unless I've got some worrying symptoms...be interested to hear what other people are doing, especially if this is not their first pregnancy?

MamaSJ15 · 01/12/2022 18:40

@Freddie1987 I've got an early scan booked, I didn't have one with my first pregnancy but I've had a couple of early losses since then so I just want a bit of reassurance. I understand what you're saying about it being a bit pointless and expensive if there's nothing suggesting there's anything wrong but like you said, if it makes you feel better then it's money well spent I'd say. £80 is a bit excessive though, is there nothing cheaper around? Think mine is £50.

Losti121623 · 01/12/2022 19:32

Been a while since I posted on here, hope you’re all doing well ❤️

@Freddie1987 i could have written that message myself! I’m in two minds about booking an early scan, had my first appointment today and they’ve booked my first NHS scan for 5th January, by which time I’ll be a few days shy of 14weeks! It’s such a long time to wait for that reassurance & experience (I’m desperate to know if it’s twins as I have an extensive family history of non-identical twins) but at the same time private scans locally are £80 in my area too- it’s a lot of money to spend in the run up to Christmas & my DH isn’t liking the idea. So I think we’ll be holding out till the first NHS scan, with the compromise of having a private gender scan at 16weeks 😬

septembersapphire7 · 01/12/2022 19:35

had my 1st (private) scan today and saw a good he (150bp)
however as I have adenomyosis, was told that implantation was only in middle 1/3 (should be closer to fundus) and asked me to speak to midwife as I may need scanning more frequently.

not sure if it’s made me more or less anxious to be honest! Lovely to see baby in right place but now worried it may not be in the best place and all go wrong!!! Arghh!!!

MamaSJ15 · 02/12/2022 12:42

@septembersapphire7 ah that's lovely to see a scan photo, thank you for sharing. I can understand why you might be feeling worried but fingers crossed all will be okay! Remember our Mantra 'Today I am pregnant' and stay strong 😊

ThePodParent · 02/12/2022 15:29

Afternoon everyone :) Hope you’re all ok and looking forward to the weekend (even if the plan is to spend it sleeping/on the sofa!).

Two questions today:

  1. To people further along than me (I’m nearly 8 weeks), did any of you have your symptoms ease up a little from this point? I still feel nauseous, tired, gross mouth taste, but it’s feeling a bit better today which is nice. Looked back at my notes from my pregnancy with DD and it looks like weeks 5-7 sucked the most, but then gradually improved, so I’m hoping for the same thing this time! Would love to hear if anyone else feels like they could be over the worst of it?
  2. Has anyone else found that they can’t stand the smell of their partner?! This happened last time too. He’s probably the cleanest person I know and takes excellent care of himself, but I cannot stand the (natural) smell of his skin and breath at the moment. It’s so weird and I feel bad for him because my affection has seriously tailed off as a result!
FirsttimemummrsJ · 02/12/2022 16:03

So interesting reading everyone's posts. I've had awful nausea this week until today I've felt more human. Hate it though because it's like I'm starving by the end of the day and then craving rubbish food. Stomach has been awful every morning, I've also had hot flushes once every day.
Haven't heard from midwifes or anyone about booking in my first appointment which is annoying as I should be 6/7 weeks now. Keep overthinking things and cramps are less so hoping all is ok.

PinkPink1 · 02/12/2022 18:52

@FirsttimemummrsJ I was 9 weeks (this week) when I had my midwife appointment. I had all day nausea 6-7 weeks and then it subsided to morning nausea. I have bloating and occasional cramping. Bowel issues too. Lovely 😂

Charlotte1256 · 02/12/2022 19:43

I was doing well nausea wise until I turned 7 weeks then it hit me. One minute I’ll be feeling so so sick then the next I need to eat immediately cos I’m starving!

candycrush789 · 02/12/2022 20:13

Not looking good for me ladies. Had a bright red gush earlier with a few clots. Sitting down a&e. It has slowed down nut hasn't stopped completely. It was after sex but it was so so so heavy 😔😔 has anyone got any positive stories for me? I think it's the end.

candycrush789 · 02/12/2022 20:16

This was after the gush, it was so bad it hit my socks and my boots 😔😔

candycrush789 · 02/12/2022 20:17

candycrush789 · 02/12/2022 20:16

This was after the gush, it was so bad it hit my socks and my boots 😔😔

I was in the process of washing my legs by the way!! There not dirty!

heartbroken22 · 02/12/2022 20:26

@candycrush789 please don't apologise. Are you okay? Sometimes sex can trigger random bleeding. I really hope you're okay and get good news. My midwife told me to have as much sex as you want but if you're bleeding or have bleeds then avoid it (I personally am in no mood for sex I'd probably puke all over my husband with the nausea I'm experiencing). Hopefully everything will be okay.

candycrush789 · 02/12/2022 20:30

@heartbroken22 not really. Yes I thought this too but loads and bright red?? 😔 this will be 2nd mc in 2 months 💔

Hjudge56 · 02/12/2022 21:31

@candycrush789 sending you a huge hug as I can imagine this was a huge shock and is scary ❤️ I really hope this isn’t the end for you and maybe just triggered from sex. Do let us know how you get on xxx

squirrelnutkins1 · 02/12/2022 22:48

@candycrush789 let us know how you go. Sending love xx

Coffeeforlife · 02/12/2022 23:43

@candycrush789 sending lots of love and good vibes. I hope it's all OK xx

septembersapphire7 · 02/12/2022 23:50

@candycrush789 i’m so sorry that sounds awful.. I hope you’re not on your own going through all that worry. Sending well wishes 💛

candycrush789 · 03/12/2022 00:11

just come home, had hcg levels checked again need to phone up tomorrow to get them. Had a scan and heard my babies heartbeat which was amazing, she said no sign of blood in uterus so must be coming from my cervix. She didn't check my cervix as she didn't want to irritate it more she said its a threatened miscarriage and my risk of miscarriage is now alot higher than pregnancies with no bleeding. She said 80% of people who experience bleeding/spotting go on to have healthy pregnancies 20% don't. She's said no sex no excersise and just rest and if it's bad again I have to go back. I'll update tomorrow with hcg results. I'm not out of the woods as I can still miscarry. But I won't be having sex again for a very long time that's for sure! Thanks ladies for all your lovely comments xx

Losti121623 · 03/12/2022 08:16

@candycrush789 Really wishing the best outcome for you, I had a similar experience with my DS1 at 6w & 18w and it was terrifying 😞 Whilst I had a really rotten pregnancy with him all was well in the end, I know the uncertainty of the outcome is the worst feeling though ❤️

candycrush789 · 03/12/2022 08:49

Hcg has come back as 115645 xx

MamaSJ15 · 03/12/2022 08:53

@candycrush789 oh I'm so sorry I missed this last night, how are you today? Must have been so scary but reassuring to hear baby's heartbeat. Thinking of you ❤️

99pctpractice · 03/12/2022 09:17

@candycrush789 I'm so sorry you went through that, it's so scary. I have a subchrionic hemotoma, which manifested as a huge amount of bleeding and cramping at about 6 weeks. Like you I completely thought it was game over - did they look for a hemotoma in the scan? I have the same instructions, take it easy, no sex and no exercise. I haven't had a big bleed since then, but have had a couple of mini bleeds. I had a scan at 7w2 and the hemotoma was still there...so it might just be along for the ride for this pregnancy!!

@Freddie1987 I've had 3 scans so far and I'm only 7w6, but that because I had bleeding, plus it's an ivf pregnancy plus I've had some losses, including an mmc. I'll probably get scans every couple of weeks but that's just because I'm pretty anxious about this pregnancy. With my first pregnancy (he's 3 1/2 now), I didn't have any scans until 12 weeks and was easy breezy about it, so i think it just depends what head space you're in!!!

candycrush789 · 03/12/2022 09:47

@MamaSJ15 it was I was in bits 😭😭 I'm never having sex again until this baby is born!!

@99pctpractice Yeah they did I don't they couldn't see any blood on my uterus so said its coming from my cervix. It's tailed of a bit now nothing on my pad just reddy orange when I wipe. When I heard my babies heartbeat it was literally music to my ears. She said I have a sensitive cervix and the blood vessels burst basically. All is fine with baby thankfully, hcg levels are all okay too 🙏🙏🙏
