@Babynum2 glad you’re getting to go home!

botleybump · 18/11/2022 11:18

Anybody got any monitor recommendations?
We were hoping to pick something up in the Black Friday sales but feeling a little overwhelmed by the options!!

We do want a movement/breathing sensor type with a camera ideally. Unless anybody has any advice to the contrary!?

Thanks in advance.

iratepirate · 18/11/2022 11:30

We have a Cubo AI and it’s been really good tbh.

Franklin321 · 18/11/2022 11:37

@botleybump we use the BT6000 which is good, doesn’t monitor movement/breathing but the camera is clear enough I can see him breathing on it

TeddyBeans · 18/11/2022 12:32

I got a sound only monitor for DS but didn't really need it because he was in with me for 10 months. Then when we moved him into his own room he was so loud I could hear him without the monitor. DD will be in with us for a year minimum so she doesn't disturb DS with any night wakings so won't really need one this time either

LittleAcorn20 · 18/11/2022 12:42

@botleybump we had one of the cheapest on the market. Just a BT one with sound only. Never missed not having the video element. Don't really understand why it's necessary but that's probably personal 🤷‍♀️

firstlittleone · 18/11/2022 12:47

@botleybump for monitors I’ll be getting the angel care one. It has a pad for monitoring breathing and the alarm sounds if nothing felt for 20 seconds, they also come with cameras. My nephew had one and my brother couldn’t recommend enough 🙂

Baby2iscooking · 18/11/2022 15:46

@Room4onemore oh my gosh, what ages are they? Here’s me thinking I’m going to be tired with two 😅

Room4onemore · 18/11/2022 15:52

@Baby2iscooking they are 16, 13, 12, 10, 7, 4 and 11 months. My angel would be 3 now

botleybump · 18/11/2022 17:20

Thank you all for the recommendations!

@firstlittleone that's currently our joint favourite, along with the similar Tommee Tipee version.
We've been tempted by the Sense-U kits but not sure we can justify the price tag and a little worried that too much data will cause anxiety!

firstlittleone · 18/11/2022 17:54

@botleybump amazon have deals on for the Angel Care, one of the sets is currently on for £120 down from £199!

Bobduncan · 18/11/2022 18:51

I just got a second hand Motorola one. Its got sound and video and think that's about it. Xx

Room4onemore · 18/11/2022 20:31

I’ve bottle fed all all my babies but I’m thinking of trying to breast feed this time, anybody have any tips please

MattyM5 · 18/11/2022 21:26

Seraphine now does 30% off for Black Friday xx

LittleAcorn20 · 18/11/2022 21:41

@Room4onemore if you can do a breastfeeding class before I'd recommend that.
I did a private one that was £30 for a three hour class and well worth the money.
Understanding how it all works and potential pitfalls/stumbling blocks was helpful for me I think. Equally useful for my husband who attended too (partners were encouraged to) as he got to understand what the physical demands on me would be and also to understand the stumbling blocks and troubleshooting to be able to help when we had teething problems with it.
The Positive Breastfeeding Book by Amy Brown is a good book to dip in and out of before hand and also to refer to during, again if there are any teething issues with breastfeeding. It's easy to pick out certain bits and just read the bits you need/want.
It's one of those strange things we've been brought up on in the media and school and we just think put a baby towards your boob and all is fine, but the reality is it's rarely quite as natural as that to begin with and can take you and baby a whole lot of trial and error until you're settled with it. I say this not to be negative, just to be realistic. The more prepared you are for the potential challenges the better in my opinion.

Babynum2 · 19/11/2022 09:50

@Room4onemore I don't really have any tips but what I can say is that the first 6 weeks are hard and that's when most people give up. If you can get past them first few weeks and get in a routine and wait for your supply then it's the easiest and most rewarding things ever. No bottles/sterilisation needed, you haven't got to get up in the night and make up a bottle I just found it less stress than bottle feeding!

LittleAcorn20 · 19/11/2022 10:15

@Babynum2 agreed. Took me 10-12 weeks to settle into it properly.
My friends told me give it 6 weeks it'll get better and then for me it took a bit longer. Just persevered, having good days and bad.
After that, agree totally it's the easiest thing, your boobs are always there! No need to prep or remember stuff. And, better still it's free 😊

Babynum2 · 19/11/2022 20:08

Just came across this website on fb ads. Sells second hand baby bits very handy if you buy second hand.

@Room4onemore if you’re in uk there are also free classes done by hospitals. They tell you what a good latch is. The baby has to take not just the nipple in but the aureole as well. If it’s just the nipple it hurts like hell. You have to break the latch then with a finger, gently, and retry.

lots of good tips here

www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/breastfeeding-and-bottle-feeding/breastfeeding/positioning-and-attachment/

the problem with the theory is that while my DD latched perfectly the first day, at night, probably bc I was lying down on the bed and didn’t offer the breast correctly, she just took the nipple and I was too tired to break the latch etc.

that started a week of pain, seeing the milk comes out just fine in any case, and me being too tired to break the latch every single time even during the day, she continued… after a week though the pain went away, my nipples adapted I guess. I used a nipple cream for breastfeeding and it provided some relief during that week.

I also struggled during the 4 or 5 day, my milk wasn’t coming through, DD was crying and trying for hours to get it to come down. I kept putting her at the breast, the midwife explained nothing bad was going to happen if it took some time for the milk to come, and that breast stimulation is the best way to get the milk to drop faster.

it was a stressful day and a stressful week, but perseverance is key. And in the end it’s easier, at least for me I couldn’t have had any energy to get out of bed to prepare a bottle of formula. What I plan is to give 1 bottle of formula but during the day, bc I’m stressed I’ll be having another small baby and maybe formula might help too, but the rest is going to be bf.

I've just seen a kick! Baby girl is having such an active night...feels amazing after just being constantly on edge about movements with an anterior placenta, as it's so different to my previous babies 💖 will probably go back to worrying tomorrow so making the most of this 😂

firstlittleone · 19/11/2022 21:41

@Dreamingof3 how lovely! 💕 how many weeks are you? I too have an anterior placenta and have just this week really started to feel baby girl move. DP is desperate to feel her!

TeddyBeans · 19/11/2022 22:44

@Dreamingof3 @firstlittleone it's so lovely when you get to feel them 🥰 long may the strong movements continue for you both!
