@PeonyPops I was thinking of starting to build up on nappies but have no clue how many of each size we will need! We've probably already bought too any onesies and vests 😂

PeonyPops · 14/11/2022 10:20

I got 5 packs of size 1, but I have quite a lot of size 2 and some size 3 now.
My babies were all 9lb or over so size one doesn’t last long haha! You can’t ever have enough vests, they just Poo and be sick all over themselfs all day every day. And muslins. Unlimited supply of them is a good idea 🤣

Dreamingof3 · 14/11/2022 10:28

@PeonyPops I've had one gtt already and passed and have another booked for just after Xmas (had gd before!)
I need to start looking at nappy sizes. Very unhelpfully my two were 10lb5 and 7lb7 so needed very different sizes of everything so I've got no idea with this one, well have to see what the growth scans say 🤣

havanamama · 14/11/2022 10:30

Nappy question - how do you h guys trust to stock up ? What if the baby is allergic, doesn’t like them, etc?

I have felt baby daily now the past 2 weeks multiple times a day, yesterday saw the movement poke my tummy too! love my little butterfly 🦋

currently sick so waiting on GP to call me and tell me what can I use

havanamama · 14/11/2022 10:31

@TeddyBeans who do you call for lack of movement? Is it your midwife or one of the hospital numbers they provide?

havanamama · 14/11/2022 10:32

I have a reassurance scan next week that will be like a half way point Between 20 and 32 week scans. Happy to have it as I hate being poorly with baby in me, so want to check that baby is all ok

ToffeeEl · 14/11/2022 10:34

@havanamama this week I've called and seen the midwife briefly for habit change then on Friday morning called hospital number they gave on her advice and was monitored. Was had no movements by Friday morning but they were great at the unit, and were happy for me to go home by early evening

TeddyBeans · 14/11/2022 12:39

@havanamama usually I'd call the triage number but I tried to call my midwife first because I wasn't sure if 25 weeks was far enough through or if they tend to make you wait til 28 weeks. As it is as soon as I called she started wriggling away so at the moment I'm not too concerned but she's definitely a bit quieter than usual

@LaForza101 hope you feel better soon and it’s not that! What did the doctors say, without signs of serious infection, maybe it is just a stomach bug?

@ChristmasJumpers I feel a bit more bonding now, 2nd time around. Because I’ve had the first.

For me, especially the first time around, the baby was more of an abstract concept, until she was born. Plus I don’t want to bond too much, I want to keep things in perspective, especially until the 20 weeks scan, as so many things can go wrong. The way I thought about it, the baby is a possibility until 20 weeks, then more of a probability after and an actual baby when she is born.

Maybe this though process is not conductive to bonding, but also until I see the baby, the reality of it it just doesn’t come across that well to me, as it can’t, anything I could have imagined about and for the first, couldn’t have compared to the reality of seeing her, meeting her and getting to know her since. I can’t wait to meet my 2nd DD, and get to know her too, I wonder if she’ll look or be similar to her sister, but she won’t become or feel “real” to me until I see her (but I know she is, growing there day by day)

Bonding will come, I find it perfectly normal not to bond with what is now an unknown, or at best, an imagination of a baby.

CristinaNov182 · 14/11/2022 13:04

*imagining of a baby

iratepirate · 14/11/2022 13:13

I feel similar to @CristinaNov182 - I haven’t ever really bonded during pregnancy. I’ve had a number of losses in the past (all in second trimester so I can’t even say I’ve ever felt the “milestone relief” of the 20wk scan). I think that’s why I’ve not really announced to anyone yet this time around.

re: lack of movement.. triage first. They’ve always advised coming in for monitoring and they always say they’d rather you came in on numerous occasions rather than thinking “it was fine last time, I won’t bother”..

Re: pelvic band. Yes, I find that really useful and have started wearing mine. I do a lot of walking and have been feeling pressure across my bump when walking, lately, so a bit of support helps. I’ve also suffered from PGP previously and I think it’s helped a bit with that.

TeddyBeans · 14/11/2022 15:13

Just as an FYI my midwife said they'd just listen in on a Doppler at 25 weeks but would have got me in for monitoring from 26 weeks. Might vary between trusts though

Hello ladies I was admitted last night for leaking fluid. I got up in the night for a wee and the bed and pj's were wet thought I might of wet myself at first as I'm up and down all night. Called hospital and they told me to come in had a scan and I still have a lot of fluid but I am leaking some. Got to take it everyday and hope that I produce more than I'm loosing. I haven't had a easy ride and I knew baby would be early due to my cervix just wasn't expecting this to happen at 24 weeks.

iratepirate · 14/11/2022 16:27

Oh gosh @Babynum2 i hope you produce plenty of fluid to replenish!

Rose429 · 14/11/2022 17:42

@Babynum2 Sorry to hear that! I’m sure you’re in good hands though so try not to stressed out too much and take in all the fluid you can ❤️

ChristmasJumpers · 14/11/2022 18:12

@Babynum2 hoping you're making plenty more fluid to replenish! Did they say the leaking will just continue now or could it stop?

CristinaNov182 · 14/11/2022 18:16

@Babynum2 can they do a stitch on your uterus? I don’t know much on this but I’ve heard it menationed.
hope it stops on its own quickly

Babynum2 · 14/11/2022 18:18

I'm waiting to see the doctor again but the way he's sitting he's over the tear at the moment. They seem positive right now but things can change quickly got to stay in until they know what to do next. Thanks all

TeddyBeans · 14/11/2022 18:32

@Babynum2 oh you poor thing, you really haven't had it easy have you? Hopefully the rear repairs itself and your fluid levels stay good. I have everything crossed for you

Thanks @LittleAcorn20 , will have a look :)

LittleAcorn20 · 14/11/2022 19:08

@Babynum2 sending positive vibes your way 🤗 this baby has caused you no end of worry! I hope they aren't as much trouble when they arrive 😊

@havanamama re. nappies you could just buy a range of brands then you'll have a few to try if you want to start stocking up. Honest opinion is that there's not much variation in them until they get a little older where I found I had preferences because she would out-leak some brands. We have for a long time now preferred Sainsbury's nappies. But I think you're right to an extent, it is quite personal especially as they grow a bit.

We used cloth nappies part-time with my daughter and I'll be looking to try and commit to it more often this time round too.
There are some good sales on re-usables at the min, I've just had some bits off Tots Bots.

And wipes wise I would recommend washable wipes over normal ones any day! So much more effective at cleaning and seem kinder on babies skin too. The best brand we found is Cheeky Wipes who do a whole kit with storage boxes and mesh bags for washing etc.

iratepirate · 14/11/2022 19:24

We’re cloth nappies here too, but I will buy a pack of newborn size too, as cloth nappy admin could be a step too far in hospital.

iratepirate · 14/11/2022 19:58

@LittleAcorn20 we love Cheeky Wipes too!

muminlndn · 14/11/2022 20:11

I've not bought anything for baby yet, I feel really similar to @CristinaNov182, almost could've written it myself!

With baby #2 we haven't even got around to picking a name yet, I've been much more pessimistic about something going wrong & felt like it was 'too easy' to conceive and my luck would run out. We might be facing potential growth restriction issues in the coming weeks/months but I can cope with that. Baby is just so abstract though! I haven't told work yet or even some extended family.

I bought maternity & postpartum clothing so I'm sorted for myself. But nothing for baby yet until the new year probably.
