Has anyone done a kick counter yet? I've just done tiny while in the bath and got 10 kicks/movements in 5 minutes. A far cry from the stillness I got this morning 🤦‍♀️🤣

@CristinaNov182 i could have written your post myself. This is baby #1 but it still just feels like a concept rather than a reality. I almost feel like we had it too easy, conceived in 2 months of starting to try and I think I’m just waiting for someone to tell me it isn’t real.

my downs testing result was 1 in 198 which although classed as low risk seemed far too close to the cut off for me, and at the 20 week scan they were unable to check baby’s heart as they were in the wrong position. The sonographer said that the heart checks will be the biggest marker of downs so I’m hoping it might start to feel a bit more of a reality if we get the all clear at the rescan next week.

LittleAcorn20 · 14/11/2022 21:19

@iratepirate way better than us managing to do it from newborn! That's amazing.
With our first I think we started at about 3 months in and just used disposables til then. I personally had to adjust to all the other chaos of new parenthood without the added stress. Once I started with re-usables I did half and half. And found it very manageable and easy to get on with.
But I'm hoping to make more of a conscious effort to do better this time. I've got a newborn trial kit from our local nappy library reserved for three months from Feb so I can have a play and see if we can do the newborn stage too. Though I'm thinking just Muslins and wraps will be the best option. I don't want to invest in lots of newborn reusables as it's so uncertain how big baby will be and therefore how long they'll last.
My daughter wouldn't have fitted in BTP nappies for the first couple of months, she was tiny and grew slowly.
I've got some Tots Bots bamboozles wraps and some cotton muslins to try 😊

havanamama · 14/11/2022 21:33

My midwife told me movement monitoring should be only after 24 weeks and not required

Franklin321 · 14/11/2022 21:41

I never actually counted the kicks with my son, just that I had felt him regularly throughout the day. Or if I was busy and hadn’t paid enough attention that he ‘woke up’ once I sat down and relaxed 😅 whatever works for you but I know counting would have caused me more anxiety so I just waited and noted feeling a kick here and there!

TeddyBeans · 14/11/2022 21:45

I didn't count with DS either. DD moves a lot but I was just curious as to how quickly she'd get to the 10 kicks. She's still going now about an hour later 🤣 I like long baths

OP posts:
CristinaNov182 · 14/11/2022 22:14

I’m going to go with my general feel for her movement pattern until the last 4 weeks or so probably. My DD1 moved less and also stopped growing about 36 weeks, so as long as the growth scans now show ok, I won’t bother with the apps until then.

I’d say if you don’t have a special risk you probably won’t need to bother either unless you notice a change in pattern or you’re overdue.

For me it was less stressful to use the app, had the phone next to me and I’d just tap on the app when I felt a move. Then check every now and then to see the counter.

It is a bother to reach for the phone, open the app, yes, but not as counting to 10 every single hour. It left my mind free to concentrate on other things.

Still I’ll leave this for the last weeks of pregnancy.

I’ve already started noticing more or less the same pattern as with my DD1, moving more in the evening. In the 3rd trimester with my first it also became time specific, at 10pm on the dot, she’d start kicking and stretching herself. First I had a habit, without meaning to, to be in bed by 10, then she formed her habit, and then if I was caught up still moving about, she’d start kicking and I’d dutifully go to bed so she could stretch herself better. Sometime she’d give me such kicks that my DH was frightened of doing some damage there. She’d move thought the day too, always got more than 10 kicks per hour, somewhere around 20, even when she moved less than the previous months, but at night she’d have a riot.

havanamama · 15/11/2022 03:46

Can someone reassure me my viral bronchitis coughing wont affect the baby?

I get so worried 🥺

Room4onemore · 15/11/2022 06:38

I’ve got a consultant appointment next week and then my GTT and growth scan on 20th December

Room4onemore · 15/11/2022 06:39

I’m starting baby on kendamil, my 11 month old had it and was great on it so I’ve grabbed a couple of tins when I’ve seen number 1 cause it’s still quite hard to get sometimes

Franklin321 · 15/11/2022 07:02

I’ve been debating between kendamil or hiip organic formula 🤔 we used cow and gate with son but ended up on anti reflux so wanted to try a different one this time round! Kendamil doesn’t do ready made which is one thing that is swaying me slightly towards hiip…

Room4onemore · 15/11/2022 07:44

@Franklin321 they do do ready made bottles, I’ve got 2 boxes for hospital and then 200ml bottles are £1.20 in Asda and Tesco also can order on boots online or through kendamil direct x

Franklin321 · 15/11/2022 07:49

@Room4onemore ooh thanks! Now I don’t know what to pick 😅

Room4onemore · 15/11/2022 07:51

Lol I check the dates on them and grab some when I see them. The tubs are cheaper in Asda £10 and £11/£11.50 everywhere else

TeddyBeans · 15/11/2022 09:18

I've gone for cow and gate. DS was on aptamil for a good 4-5 months but this was when they changed the formula so I moved onto cow and gate with him with the added bonus that it was cheaper. Which is weird because they're so strictly regulated that you can buy any of them and they're all practically the same

Is anyone planning to give colostrum before introducing formula?

Franklin321 · 15/11/2022 10:46

@CristinaNov182 yes I’m planning on combi feeding a bit but via pumping and bottles, although it’s hard to pump colostrum so may have to hand express a bit initially!

havanamama · 15/11/2022 12:37

I’m already having some people being quite pushy with breastfeeding. I feel like fed is best so not putting any pressure on myself. 🫣

my bronchitis is getting better but baby must have turned somewhere as I feel her in little flutters very low as opposed to before she was kicking more around my belly button.

how much do babies rotate in the womb? 🤨

Cats23 · 15/11/2022 12:41

My Dd was tube fed for 3months with my expressed milk then Expressed to bottles, Ds 1&2 I bf for 8weeks ( It was so hard and neither took to it well s hoped ) DD 2 was Bf for 5months, this time Im hoping to BF/expres/combi feed first for 8 weeks as Im returning to work at 8 weeks....
I used Sma with the older 2 (now 19&14 ) and aptamil with younger 2 (now 7&5) Will look into kendamil- Never heard of it before

TeddyBeans · 15/11/2022 12:58

@havanamama hope your bronchitis continues to improve! Babies turn a lot! It only becomes an issue around 34-36 weeks when they start running out of space to turn and can get stuck in an unfavourable position. I usually get kicks around my belly button as well but yesterday evening it felt like she was stroking my hip 🤣

OP posts:
CristinaNov182 · 15/11/2022 13:01

I bf for 1 year 5 months with my DD1. I tried to give her formula too, I wanted to give her 1 bottle per day, along with breast milk, but she rejected it, once puked, then refused, tried all brands.

I didn’t plan to bf for so long, but I didn’t know how to wean. Tried different things and one thing worked: putting plasters on my nipples :))

so I plan for 1 year now, but I will try again to add one bottle of formula per day too, not initially, but after the colostrum, hope this time it will take. I don’t know which one yet, I’ll look up what brands you mention here.

Allthegirls3 · 15/11/2022 15:21

Hi 👋 I am a little late to the thread perhaps, due 19th march with a girl 💖 3rd girl 🫣 so currently 22+2, getting lots of movements from baby...yet I don't want to move at all 😂🥱😴 really struggling for energy this time around! maybe It's just being older this time. Has anyone had their COVID booster? I have mine tomorrow and think it's going to wipe me out!

LittleAcorn20 · 15/11/2022 18:05

@CristinaNov182 ive heard the plaster trick from someone else recently as well, makes me laugh, it's genius! I'm really pleased it worked for you, I've kept that as an idea for this time round. Breastfed DD til 11mths and like you all the while she refused a bottle and drove me mad. In the end a combination of teething and a cold seemed to change her mind about the bottle and she suddenly decided that was better and I just went cold turkey from them on.
I'm veeeery apprehensive about having another bottle refuser but am happy to commit to one year ish of breastfeeding if they won't combi feed And then it will be time for the plasters 😂

Congrats @Allthegirls3 welcome to the Feb/March mummies! I was fine after my covid and flu jabs it was the whooping cough one that floored me most! Hope it goes ok for you 😊 the one other people are reacting to the most with this seasonal booster is the one they won't offer to pregnant ladies anyway. Think it's mostly just Pfizer that they're offering pregnant ladies at the moment and most people I know that have had that one haven't had any side effects past a sore arm.

Babynum2 · 15/11/2022 18:09

For anyone on a budget I used aldi baby milk once I stopped BF at 6months its basically aptimel but half the price it was 6.99 when I used it 3 years ago.

Dreamingof3 · 15/11/2022 19:12

@Allthegirls3 I'm also due the 19th with my third girl! Absolutely exhausted this time round, how old are your other two?

@Babynum2 we've used the Aldi milk as that's where we generally shop...noticed the other day it's gone up to 8.59! 😱 All formula is essentially the same, a lot of them are even from the same producers, just then packaged differently
