Morning all

Dex did another stupendous sleep... had to wake him up to feed him and take DC to school. Fingers crossed this is a pattern he is going to stick to.

Fettle- hope Toby is ok with the jabs... Dex has got his 2nd lot next week. What is the third injection for? Did they do the polio one in his mouth yet? Dex only had 2 jabs first time around. That Messiah was a bit gruesome!

mrs- any action overnight?

Seaside and Iampg- a lot of the lovely ladies on here were early- Bodders you were 38 wks, i think??

Sorry- so excited about the pending births that I cant remember what I was going to say to anyone else!

Another here with a 4am waker!!! Think it is the dawn chorus!!

Sorry not really around much or having time to catch up properly - never seem to have any time anymore.

honey - Toby is still breast-feeding and don't think he wants to give up - he's stopped biting and fussing now, but he is getting a bottle if he wakes at night, so DH does it now! (He's now complaining about beeing tired!). Hope your friend is doing ok?

Glad Theo's Christening went well, Chooster - was a lovely day on Sunday.

As Honey said I hope everyone's lives are harmonious again soon - DH and I have argued more over silly things than ever before since having Toby - exhuastion, stress and hormones I blame it on!!

Big waves to all

xxxx

morning ladies

sorry your all blessed with 4am wakers oscar is waking at 6:15 on the dot but is being a little horror at night! i lay him in his cot (he is now in his own temporary bedroom as he is just far to noisy during the night) and as i walk down the stairs he watches me and as soon as im out of sight cue screaming! actually he is doing this a lot lately if i go out of view. - is this normal and will he grow out of it? i just dont want it affecting him when he is babysat etc.

i am still living in a non harmonious atmosphere 2nd night on sofa last night! as dp gets up for 6am to go to work i go back to bed. perfect!

babylove123 · 16/07/2008 11:15

Hi,

Anyone elses pages gone funny on here?! usually its like pg 39 but mine has turned into one long one.........v strange

Honey-I have the snoring DP too! Thing is, i can cope with the snoring, i just kick him and it stops. The thing that really bugs me is that he has this clicking thing going on in the back of his throat. Obv something sticks to his tongue or throat and it is a continuous noise and it is REALLY annoying! So much so i've started sleeping with earplugs but my ears are becomming itchy from it so i have made him a docs apt for Fri much to his delight! My babyshower i spose isnt conventional in the sense of a babyshower - for a start the mum isnt meant to organise it! I just wanted to have a calm party, maybe a buffet lunch and socialise with friends and family because really im the first of our age group to have a baby and the first of the grandchildren to have one. I'm so overjoyed to be pregnant that i just wanted to celebrate it. I dont want anything fancy, just a village hall, maybe some tables and chairs and a few decorations. A cd on the stereo and some sandwiches and pop.

Iam - sorry to hear things arent good still. Have you been able to talk to him at all?

DP played his song to babylovej last night but he didnt get any kicks so i think he was a bit sad......baby was quiet though. We have the cot mobile (the un-scratched version!) so we've been playing that too. He/she likes twinkle twinkle little star! Plus there is a lightshow that projects fish and stars on the ceiling but thats purely for mine and DP's enjoyment!

Take care everyone

greedygreedyguzzler · 16/07/2008 13:35

wow! that took some catching up! managed to slice my finger whilst cutting cucumber and trying to read all this at the same time, so i blame you lot for my blood soaked laptop for chatting so much!

chooster - glad work is allowing some MN time for you! and really pleased theos big day went well. hope his teeth pop though soon..better to have a big whingey spell and get a few teeth through at the same time i reckon. although, ulcers in the mouth sounds extreme for teething, maybe seaside is right with her diagnosis. ellis' party was a big success and my super cheap train ride and bouncy castle combo went really well and it wasn't too good to be true, just a very good deal!! it was the best kids party i have ever been to anyway, but then i would say that............and we did provide lots of booze for the adults too!!!

bodders - hello! kikis pox have almost gone thanks......im such a picker and its SO hard to resist picking them. the ones in her hair are the best ones cos they wont scar, but i reckon quite a few of the others will. i am still waiting for marcy to get it. i think i will look up what you said isla had cos i dont know much about it either and im nosey!

fettle - hello!!! how you doing petal?

iamamummy - i remember a post from you saying how fab oscar was at settling himself at night! i remember EXACTLY the same thing with ellis.......he was fab at settling himself and then about 7 months or so was fine until i closed the door and then he would scream, but as soon as i went back in he would stop. i am afraid i got tough with him cos there was obviously nothing wrong with him cos he would stop as soon as i went back in. i used to leave him to cry for 5 mins, then go back in, then leave it 10 mins and then go back in.......but he was normally asleep by then anyway. i think its an age thing, they get 'separation anxiety'. kiki never had it at bedtime, just when i left her with the childminder. marcy doesnt seem to be bothered at all if i leave her anywhere!!! shes a tough old bird!!!

honey - marcy has 6 teeth and 2 more just pushing through.but that is all she does all day.....grow teeth..grow hair and smile! none of this moving around malarky for her!

seaside - i am sure cassius will return to his great sleeping soon. its amazing how much teething can upset them. im with you on the sleeping, i need my sleep and get so irritable if i dont get it!

babylove - i kind of agree with honey. why not have a baby shower at your house instead? although, i am sure someone else is supposed to arrange it for you, so why not just hint at a friend instead and let them sort it out? or have a party after the baby is born?......................although you might not feel like a party with a tiny newborn to look after!

firsty - no more mini firstys? such a shame, but it really does have to be a joint decision doesn't it and if hes made up his mind i guess there not much you can do. he might still change his mind you never know........how old are you? do you still have time?

who have i missed?

did i mention ellis' party was fab? did i mention kiki was a superstar athelete in her 'teddy toddle' yesterday? did i mention that marcy is just the cutest squidgiest baby in the world? (apart from all of yours obviously!) did i mention that i really have to go and mop up my blood soaked keyboard?............................................................byeeeeeeee!!!

honeyapple · 16/07/2008 14:18

greedy- glad the party was a success- what's this about a train?? I'm going to have to have number 4 because I would LOVE to hold a summer birthday party!

babylove- your party sounds lovely- BUT- I reckon it would be better to wait until LO was born- but heh what does it matter what i think!!

Dex was up at 5.00 this morning... probably cos he didnt go to bed until 9... which was a bit of a battle of screaming until he gave in.

Iamamummy- 7mths is the time when babies get real seperation anxiety- Dex went through it last month with a LOT of screaming everytime i went out of his sight- but he seems to be a bit better at the moment.

BTW I think we need a new thread...

iamamummy · 16/07/2008 16:35

thanks greedy and honey - oscar is only 5 months, maybe he is going through that phase early? i will give him a few more nights then il get tough but i just find it lovely that he wants me

greedy - ellis's party sounds fab, hope you mopped up all that blood - yuk

fettle · 16/07/2008 16:49

Ok girls - in the hope that some of you are around tonight this is a me me me post warning!!! But I need reassurance!!!

i've a meeting tomorrow with my boss and i think i've decided to say i'm not going back, as he's pretty adamant that I can't work anything less than 5 days a week, in the office (and that's with a long commute from where I live with 2 DC, one starting school in Sept). The job has also changed so much since I left, that i'm not sure I'll enjoy it anymore. Still just can't be totally sure I'm doing the right thing though for me - children and money aside!

There is no way I want to leave toby now, but I also know that I'm not your earth-mother type and will have moments of help I need some me time, especially as he gets older and needs more stimulation. But DD will also need me more in Sept when she starts school, so I know that me being around for drop off and pick-up on-time will be best for her. Money - we'll cope for a while anyway, but no big treats (read that as expensive holidays and frivalous shopping!!) without lots of discussion and planning.

Oh poo - I think that it is just because I'm actually going to do it that I'm having cold-feet and I'll feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders tomorrow evening.

On the plus side, I've been asked to be a school governor again of one of the local primary schools, so that will give me some adult responsibility and I've already paid for Toby to go to a music group once a week next term, so I must be certain I'm not going back!!!

Right - sorry for that........

Greedy - hope your finger is ok now and you're not bleeding to death somewhere quietly!!!

Ohh better go - Toby has the phone and is probably dialling someone!!!

xxx

Bodkin · 16/07/2008 20:46

Fettle - it sounds like your mind is made up... and it probably is just the jitters at actually having to go and spell it out to your boss. Sounds to me like you are making the right decision, and the one that will make you happiest. Who cares about expensive holidays and buying stuff....it's all just consumerism in the end.

Greedy - party sounds great - cucumber related injury sounds messy and LOL at your hairy toothy baby!

Chooster - I was going to suggest hand foot and mouth too, but Seaside beat me to it! I know all the revolting weird virus's that do the rounds - Nelly seems to get EVERYTHING going! But other than random skin infections, she's as fit as a flea and rarely ill!

Honey - Isla is still on the boob, for the time being. I only feed twice a day now - she usually wakes at about 5am, so I boob her then and generally she will go back to sleep til about 7. Then I feed her again at about 2 or 3pm and then she has a bottle before bed. Occasionally I'll give her a bottle at about 11am as well if she's too tired to hang on for lunch and needs a nap pronto! But I must admit, I am starting to find feeding her a bit odd now - she doesn't really seem like a baby anymore. As soon as she stops that 5am feed, I'll stop I think... she did sleep through until 6.45 this morning actually, so hopefully we're on our way.

I guess she is having quite a lot of milk still for a 1 year old, but she is eating solids better now, so I guess she'll drop it when she's ready...she doesn't take much before bed - about 4oz.

Sympathies to all of you with sleeping problems at the moment...just when you think you've got it cracked, they start waking up again.

Firsty - sorry to hear that DP has had his final say on any further sproglets. I shall continue to hope that he has a change of heart in the future though

Iamamummy - sorry to hear things still not resolved with DP...snoring can be a real nightmare...

Babylove - idea of a gathering of friends to celebrate the pregnancy is a nice idea, but don't let it become too stressful trying to organise it - kind of defeats the object!

Seaside - re the tired baby at 5.30pm - Isla did this the other day - fell asleep in the car on the way back from friends house... literally as we turned into our road. I just brought the car seat in, made her a bottle of milk, then woke her up and changed her nappy, gave her milk and put her straight to bed and she slept through until 6am - she hadn't even had any tea! So you could try it and see what happens!

OK, better dash and do some work. I've got loads on and I#ve got to do DPs VAT return by the end of the month....eeeek!

Chooster · 16/07/2008 20:52

Hi all,

I reckon you are having a case of cold feet as you've said fettle. To finally say the words "I'm not coming back" is pretty major and no matter how right you know it is, its still bound to cause some wobbles. As you've said your job is totally unmanageable with having 2 kids. You'd never see them during the week because of the commute and you'd be exhausted as well... If only your job had a bit more flexability (or was closer) then it may be different. Besides it sounds like you've got something good going on with being the governor which like you say will give you something non-child related (well, not directly if you see what I mean!). And who knows whats around the corner... You could meet someone through being a governor who is looking for a fettle to work in their business, or meet someone who is looking for a business partner to start something up, or you may hear of part-time work near to home. You'd never hear about other things if you were stuck in your old job... It really does sound like you are doing the right thing and once its done you'll feel so confident of your decision, I'm sure. Roll on tomorrow and I hope your boss is OK. What if he turns around and says "OK, we'll give you part-time"??????

Back here, things are SO frustrating! I just feel I still dont know whats wrong with Theo. Its like everything is kicking off at the same time. He has a fever, he's been sick and had a bad bottom, his gums look like they are about to explode, he has ulcers on his tongue and inside his lips and he's just been so lethargic today... Oh and he's hardly eaten and just about takes one bottle a day but refuses all others. The doc on monday said teething (agree with you Greedy its all a bit much for a few teeth!), then today another one said he had a chest infection (so anti-biotics) and that he had been exposed to the coldsore virus (so another prescription). Now I feel awful as the coldsore virus definately came from me. After I was ill last week I got the mother of all coldsores on my lip and I tried so hard to avoid Theo coming into to contact but I guess i failed . So I feel like I've done this to him . But, I still dont feel it explains the sickness etc... I've only managed to get one dose of anti-bios in him today and that was mixed wit some porridge , as he's sick as soon as he swallows it from a spoon. It seems like he has a combination of a few different things at the same time which is making it all worse....Anyway, I'm rambling but I just dont know what to do next and we are getting SO little sleep that thats not helping. And of course all this is tying in nicely with it being my first week at work. DH cancelled his work on Mon / Tues, I was off today anyway, so I've had to take a day holiday tomorrow and God knows for Friday...

One brighter note, am so glad Ellis' party went well Greedy!! The train sounds fab . How is your sis getting on? Onto the next cycle of ttc?

Thanks for your help Seaside. I also thought hand, foot and mouth as it was similar to the ulcers in max's mouth when he had it, but neither doctor thought that was it. Having said that, I looked at Max's mouth tonight and he is getting small ulcers on his tongue . So now I'm wondering if it could be H,F&M but my kids only get it in their mouths? .

Sorry to hear that sleep has gone to pot in a few MN households... It will pass though, everything comes in phases with kids doesn't it, so it will come good again .

Any breakthrough qith DP Iamamummy?

Sorry to hear that DP is not budging on the subject of more babies Firsty. Maybe he will come round in a year or twon once the baby-days are gone with Ty. Perhaps it all feels a bit much at the moment.

Phew, right, I'm going to head to bed and get my sleep in early as Theo tends to become unsettled from the early hours onwards.

Chooster · 16/07/2008 20:59

Crossed with you Bodders! Thanks for your words of wisdom too on the ulcers. As I said I'm wondering about hand foot and mouth as something ahs been passed onto Max. Why is it all so confusing eh! Great to hear that Isla is sleeping / eating better

Good luck with the work...

seaside72 · 16/07/2008 23:01

Chooster - know the docs disagree but really does sound like HF&M to me - all the symptoms sound exactly like my friend's baby had 2 weeks ago - especuially the not eating and being lethargic but not really sleeping. From what I read it can manifest itself in so many diff ways - totally possible to just be ulcers and sore throat- unfortunately if it is HF&M dont think teh ab's will help - but I think it does pass quickly - few days and no lasting damage - just horrid while it lasts.
Poor you and poor Theo - especially as you are just back at work - hope everyone feels better soon.

greedy - snap on the finger injury - I sliced mine with the potato peeler earlier- never seen so much blood - it really hurts

Iammummy - Cassius is doing something very similar - he is still really good a settling to sleep and does not cry - but during the day he is whinging a lot more and wants to be carried everywhere - grr - today I let him cry for about 4/5 mins when I put him down in his swing but then he just stopped and then fell asleep! I think they are just testing the boundaries and becoming more wilful (do I sound mean!!!)

gotta go and empty the steriliser and make a feed - nighty night

fettle · 16/07/2008 23:14

Thanks girls - you're right as always!!

Just had a friend round for a bottle of wine, but as she's pregnant, I drank most of it!! And DH is away tonight so all night wakings are mine to deal with!! Like you Seaside I'm off to the steriliser, as DH has been doing the night feeds for so long now, I don't think there'll be any milk in the old boobs if when Toby wakes up tonight, so I'll have to have some bottles on stand-by!!

Firsty - so sorry that DH isn't budging on the 2nd one - but you've got Ty and he sounds perfect!

Greedy - did smile at your Marcy just sitting there growing teeth and hair - have a great image of her!!! Are you sure she's not running around behind your back and then sitting back down as soon as you look again!

Better go deal with the bottles as Toby is stirring - been giving him a dream feed about 10pm to try and stop the 3-5am waking, but it's not been successful, so wasn't going to bother tonight as I'm on my own, but looks like he's expecting it now!!

Bodders - must e-mail you about our meet-up. I'm away next week, but in the following 3 weeks we should sort something.

Right - hope everyone sleeps well and snoring DP/DHs are better!!

xxx

fettle · 16/07/2008 23:17

ps - Chooster - poor you with little Theo, He always seems poorly with something - hope he perks up soon. Toby has been out of sorts the last couple of days, with very tiny blister like spots appearing in places - hoping it is not chicken pox = look too small and too few for that, but as we're away next week, don't want him ill for that, but he's also dribbling like his mouth is a tap that I can't switch off, so may be some teeth involved as well. Have to say that Seaside sounds right with Theo. Poor you on your first week back as well!

help, I'm rambling - too much wine!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/07/2008 17:05

hello all!

chooster - hope poor ickle theo gets sorted soon. next week he will be better and you will have had some sleep and feel better and you will have forgotten all about how he has been this week. i only say that cos poor little kiki was so ill with her chicken pox bless her and when someone asked me today how she was i had completely forgotten about it and looked at them like they were mad!! (they probably thought i was the mad one or at least a very uncaring mother!)

fettle - guess you will have done the deed by now. you wont regret it i am sure.

hey everyone Marcy MOVES at last!!!!! she seems to be doing the beginnings of bum shuffling. it takes her about half an hour to move about 2mm and i wont be rushing to put the stairgates back up yet....but she can do something!!! i think she is trying to master the art of telekinesis though cos if she sees something she wants she just seems to stare at it and grunt a lot. obviously she is hoping it will jump up and whizz across into her hand!

bodders - i never thouoght i would hear you say you found it weird BFing! i know what you mean about them not seeming like babies anymore though. marcy seems so grown up and it makes me so sad that she could possibly be my last one.

honey - if you have a fourth i will be super jealous. i think if you did i would have to!!! and what sort of basis is that for having another child? because i was jealous of another MNer!!!

better go i guess, patients to see (unfortunately! cos im not really in the mood and it means i miss bedtime tonight cos i have got a late finish)

its my big boys birthday tomorrow..............hard to believe 5 yrs ago i was just starting to think " Oh was that a contraction or not?.................is this it or not?..............oh my god i am going to be a mum soon!"

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/07/2008 17:06

im off to try and hunt down cityangel now to see if there is any news!

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/07/2008 17:06

shit no! patients i forgot!!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/07/2008 17:12

couldnt resist! my poor patient will be fuming! i am 10 mins late for him!.....hes a miserable sod anyway!.........cityangel is due on 23rd i think.......and shes on mat leave now so should have no excuse for not being on here!!!..........................where are you cityangel???

fettle · 17/07/2008 19:51

oh - Hope Cityangel is ok?

Greedy - you are naughty ignoring your patient for so long - how do you know he's not a Mumsnetter?!!!

Well - i've done it!!! Boss didn't have the decency to say anything, not a word just silence! No, sorry you're leaving, we'll miss you, thank you for all your hard work - nothing!! His loss!! Told him I didn't think he'd wanted me back for a while, which I think he was a bit affronted at, but that's how I felt and if he wasn't even going to speak to me!.

Anyway, DH has just gone out to get take-away - just couldn't face cooking tonight. Feel very relieved I've done it, but just so sad that I've left on bad terms with him - hoping that other people in the company will remember me for me and so if I want to go back at a later date (to a different job!), they'll consider me along with other applicants.

Right - hope you all have good evenings - must get some things done. We're off to stay with my parents on Monday for a week without DH as he's away with work for the week and I can't wait for my little "holiday".

Bodkin · 17/07/2008 20:23

Well done Fettle - not an easy thing to do, and especially with your boss being such a stone wall ! I think Chooster made some great points in her post about it (made me feel like I had been a bit glib ) and even if you do feel like you need to have some "you time" and do something other than wipe noses and bottoms, there are other ways of fulfilling that, without the daily grind of a full time job + commute.

Good weeks for me to arrange a meet are w/c 28 july and w/c 4 August. Otherwise we have various visitors and weddings to juggle!

Bit concerned about Theos blisters - whereabouts are they?... really hope it is not the dreaded molluscum (and really really hope he hasn't caught it from my pox ridden kids ) If it is on his thighs/nappy area, it might well be. Not serious though - just long and drawn out and very bloody and messy at the end....bit like chicken pox but lasts longer.

Chooster - blimey, he really does sound out of sorts with whatever it is - but Greedy is right, it will all be sorted this time next week. sounds very much like HFM - never had it here, but my sisters kids had it... and they only ever had the mouth ulcers and spent the time flaked out on the sofa whimpering for ice lollies and frozen peas!

Greedy - you are so going to have a fourth baby! And why not - you produce gorgeous healthy bright (hairy) children Well done Marcy on the 2mm shuffle. PMSL at telekinesis! Isla seems to think that if she screams at something loud enough it will be hers. She is particularly obsessed with a Homer Simpson fridge magnet at the mo...

Hope City is ok and just enjoying her last few weeks of freedom!

Laters potaters

Bodkin · 17/07/2008 20:27

Firsty! Sorry, I forgot you! Hope the soft play party goes well - am sure Ty will love bundling around! Good on him for getting up those steps... once they get the taste for the stairs, there's no stopping them!

Bodkin · 17/07/2008 20:31

Er... of course I mean Toby's blisters...

rainbowdays · 17/07/2008 20:37

Hi all, sorry haven;t been able to read through all the posts, just kinda scanned them so hope I haven't missed any big news.

Minxi - yeh! wow great news on being pg, hope you are enjoying your holiday too.

greedy - it was my big boys birthday last saturday, 5 seems such a big age. Hope your young man has a good birthday tomorrow.

fettle - do I gather you have quit your job, that is brave but good for you.

cityangel - birth-day is getting close for you now, how exciting. Are you doing ok or are the end of pregnancy aches and pains getting you?

Have I missed a the first of the first birthdays here already???? whoops

All is well here, I am hectic with everything and seeming to do nothing!!!! But we have decided to get Jak baptised in two weeks time on a Tuesday as that is the only time my brother will be here to be Godfather. I am hoping my sister might make it here too, but sad that my mum and dad wont be able to be with us.

I will try not to leave it so long before coming back again or I will have to search for you all on a new thread !

Chooster · 17/07/2008 20:42

Maybe she's already had him!! mmm. actually we dont know its a him do we??? Or do we??

Have to admit I reckon it could be H,FandM too Seaside, but he also does have a chest infection as he's very wheezy so maybe the poor bugger has a couple of things at the same time, which is what I suspect and why his symptoms are a little confusing . I know fettle, I always seem to be moaning that Theo is ill wiht one thing or another! He's actually not that bad really, I probably just rant on here about every cold because I dont tend to say anything to RL people about it.

Grrrr, he's stirring, after puking up his milk about 20mins ago... actually he's been on really good form today so I'm hoping the worst is past... I know what you mean Greedy, by Monday I'll have forgotten he was ill .

Aw, my friend came round today who is due tomorrow (her first) and it was so lovely to hear her all anxious / excited! Its an amazing time really isn't it when you are waiting for your first to arrive . Well, I'm excited anyway.

Wow, so Marcy is moving as well as growing stuff!!! Good for her! Got to say she sounds totally adorable

Well, he's not settling by himself so I think a back stroke may be in oder, haven't had tea ot anything yet...

Chooster · 17/07/2008 20:57

Ooops, crossed with a couple of you there as it took me so long to write!

I'd forgotten about Toby's blisters... sounds nasty Fettle. Hope he recovers quick for your week away. At least you'll have some help if he does remain out of sorts. I bet you can't wait get there - your mum is very good isn't she I seem to remember. By the way is this the time you are up in Scotland? Or is that another time?

Hi Bodkin, Good to hear from you - Isla sounds nice and settled now.

Welcome back rainbow!!! You must be busy with the 3 kids... Any more talk of a 4th . Hope the plans for the baptism go well
