Morning all

Dex did another stupendous sleep... had to wake him up to feed him and take DC to school. Fingers crossed this is a pattern he is going to stick to.

Fettle- hope Toby is ok with the jabs... Dex has got his 2nd lot next week. What is the third injection for? Did they do the polio one in his mouth yet? Dex only had 2 jabs first time around. That Messiah was a bit gruesome!

mrs- any action overnight?

Seaside and Iampg- a lot of the lovely ladies on here were early- Bodders you were 38 wks, i think??

Sorry- so excited about the pending births that I cant remember what I was going to say to anyone else!

hiya- just bumping us cos we had nearly disappeared!

OP posts:
Bodkin · 15/05/2008 20:13

Hiya Firsty - wow that was like a post from the old days! Shrugged shoulders eh? Sounds promising....

Can i just rather selfishly vent about something that has really upset me today...

My lovely gorgeous and innocent 4 year old Nelly came up to me earlier and said "look mum, i'm smoking a cigarette (it was a piece of paper she'd rolled up into a tube)" Horrified, I said, oh no, you shouldn't pretend to do that, it is a horrible thing. Who have you seen doing that then? She replied Grandma Mole (my mum) The worse thing about it was that she was actually pretending to inhale and exhale.. and as much as my mum tries (sort of) to be discreet - she obviously isn't. It just broke my heart really. Maybe I'm overreacting... Anyway, I gave her a little talk about how cigarettes are very bad for

Bodkin · 15/05/2008 20:15

sorry...
bad for your health, and i suppose I can't shield her forever... still, it has made me incredibly sad.

Anyway, that is my little rant. i've got to dash now as DP has just got back from London and he will need to debrief after having been in a car for 4 hours!

fettle · 15/05/2008 20:31

Bodders - that is sad - but they are at that copying age. You sound as if you dealt with it fine - had a similar situation this evening with my DD. She called me a "little b*gger". Just sat there cuddling on my lap and out it came!. Although DH does swear from time to time, I really don't like it and only find myself swearing under times of immense stress and anger. She said that a little boy at preschool says it. Now do I approach the teacher about it, or just ignore it as one of those things and as you say Bodders, we can't protect them forever. It is just so sad seeing our little innocent 4 yr olds being exposed to the big bad world out there! [but then DD has friends at pre-school who are already talking about boys etc, I think totally encouraged by their mothers' which is outrageous at this age! I know we can't stop them growing up, but surely we can try and stop them racing through the innocence of their childhood?!

Oh sorry, I've now ranted on!![grin[

Anyway, hope everyone is well. Be quiet without Greedy around!. Great to hear how well you and Millie are getting on Scorpio and Iamamummy glad all is well with you. Can't believe how many other little babies we may have on this thread in a year's time.....Firsty (hopefully!), Iammum, Greedy, Rainbowy, MrsMc (in spirit!), anyone else want to join?

I'm off for my yucky op tomorrow, really not looking forward to it, but I'm off to bed now as shattered - both DC were up at varying times between 1030pm and 5am, when I gave up on sleeping as Toby was very unsettled. He has big bruised holes in his gums where his front top teeth are coming through - never noticed that happening with DD - poor boy and he's trying so hard not to complain, but he's obviously in pain

iamamummy · 16/05/2008 15:42

hi ladies

greedy - have a fab holiday! dont worry about the diet if its a biggie - i have a 3 day diet that i used to do and i lost 6/7 pounds each time i did it so might just give that a whirl even if it is a bit yukky!

bodkin - sorry to hear your daughter is mimicking some nasty habits i guess as she gets older it will be one of many things. aslong as you had a chat with her and she understands whats right and wrong im sure she will be fine.

be back soon oscar is screaming again....

rainbowdays · 17/05/2008 15:03

fettle - hope the op goes well today, thinking of you and wishing you speedy recovery afterwards.

greedy - have a good holiday and come back to let us know what a fantastic time you had.

bodkin - oh dear, not a nice thing to be copying, it is something I worry about my children picking up from my MIL as she sees them all the time.

I am tackling gluten and wheat free cooking, anyone else done this before? It is not easy.

fettle · 18/05/2008 20:31

hope everyone is well and busy! Nearly couldn't find our thread!!

all well here - very tired and a bit sore, but at least it is over - hoping this is the end of it. Somehow managed to be persuaded to have a coil fitted while under general anesthetic having always been so anti them, but it was the pain on fitting that I was scared of so though why not! Now I've read all these horror stories on here of spots, constant bleeding for months, weight gain, mood swings, loss of libido etc etc! I'm worrying if I've made a mistake!

anyway, exhausted so off to bed now - poor Toby was very very Very unsettled last night (every 45 mins unsettled!!). One of his top teeth is finally completely through and he was starving all day, so I think a combination of teething pain and finally getting his appetite back after his upset. Hoping for a better night tonight!

Bodders, I've sent you an e-mail about our meet-up - let me know if you don't get it.

sleep well all (especially Toby!!).

xxx

rainbowdays · 18/05/2008 22:16

fettle - good to hear you are home safely, hope you do get a good nights sleep tonight. Also want to reassure you that although there are some horror stories with the coil, there are loads of stories of people benefiting greatly from it. Hope it works well for you.

Bodkin · 19/05/2008 14:34

Hi all

Fettle - well done on getting through your op... hope you're recovering well. So far I've no complaints on my coil - although as I haven't had any periods still it's hard to tell whether I'll suffer or not! Can't believe it - I haven't got your e-mail again! What is going on with that eh? Grrrrr... I'll send you one now and we'll see if that gets through to you - if so, could you try and send your e-mail again as a reply.

Hi everyone else - thanks for making me see sense over the smoking thing - I knew i was overreacting, but it just took me by surprise. Fettle - I know what you mean about the swearing, luckily DD hasn't picked anything up yet (by some miracle - I am always F'ing and blinding under my breath!) but she has started saying Oh My God in a very theatrical way after her older cousins have been to stay this weekend!

Chooster · 20/05/2008 09:47

Hello all!!! we've been away all weeekend at my mums as it was Max's birthday yesterday, can't believe my baby is now 4! . we had a great time though and had a nice little party with family and he got some fab presents, the favourite being the go-kart that me and DH got for him... he just loves his 'vehicles' . The weather was just perfect as well, sunny but not too hot for the kids although Theo has somehow managed to get sunburnt knees . Dont know how that happened as I specifcally put him in light trousers . Maybe they burnt through the material? Anyway I'm going to have to be more careful, especially when we are holiday next week. Its our cruise that I think I mentioned - I'm a little nervous about it as I dont know what to expect but I hope it'll be OK... Mind you I just dropped Max off at nursery and the NHS people were there as they has been a child with an e-coli infection there last week. They've excluded all the kids that could have come into contact with the child and Max isn't one of them but still I'm worrying a bit about it. If you see on the news that a cruise ship is in quarantine off the Spanish coast after a e-coli outbreak then you know whats happened...

Fettle - Good to hear that your Op is all finshed and out the way, at least you dont have it hanging over you any more as it must ahve been playing on your mind recently. Hope the discomfort goes soon and that you are feeling better? How was Toby sleeping? Wow that is a very unsettled night you guys had?

Oh shit, Theo has woken up from his nap... We are getting our carpet replaced today and I was hoping that he would sleep through the noise like Isla did with the builders . No such luck though... Grrrrrrrrrr.... Mind you if doesn't sleep wuite so well today then maybe ne wont wake up at 5.30am again tomorrow! Every bloody day for the past week or so he done that...Oh, he's really awake now, better go get him.

Bodkin · 20/05/2008 11:57

Oooh Chooster - your cruise! How exciting! How will Theo cope with crawling around on deck! That would make me a bit nervous i think! Mind you, I am thinking of a dodgy P&O type ferry, and I'm sure yours will be far more glamorous!

Bad luck on the early starts... do you think he is ready to drop the morning nap? I think Isla is, although some mornings when we are out and about it's hard to stop her dropping off in the buggy. So some days it's 2 and some days it's 1 long one - and the next morning she always sleeps in longer.

Can you believe it, we have been invited to 3 weddings all in the space of about 2 months! We were trying to work out how we were going to do it, and in the end decided that DP would go to one on his own (it's his mate), I'd go to one on my own (it's my mate) and we'd both go to the 3rd one in September, and leave at least Isla at my mum's (hopefully she will be off the boob at night by then!) Anyway, we are both rather excited at the prospect of going to the weddings as single childless types and snogging the bridesmaid/bestman (I am joking by the way.... and I do hope DP is )

Fettle - did you get my mail? Is there some weird spooky e-mail thing going on here?

Laters potaters

fettle · 20/05/2008 20:33

Bodders - I did get your e-mail and I responded again! Wonder what is going on? Maybe your DP is intercepting them and doesn't want you to meet some random stranger you've met on the internet!!!. Have you got a facebook account? I could try tracking you down on there and send you a message that way?

Chooster - what a lovely weekend/birthday Max had! Can't remember what the weather was like this weekend, but good you had a good weather. How exciting going on a cruise? Hope you have fun - trying to presuade DH to go on one, but don't think I'll even persuade him! Think we're having our summer break at home in Scotland - maybe we could meet up at the zoo at some point while we're up there?

Rainbowy - thanks for coil reassurance and you too Bodders. So far I've had bad headaches, feeling quite faint and I'm really bloated today, but they could all be completely unrelated!

Poor Toby is really not well - he's got a high temp this evening and has been crying most of the day and moaning most of the evening, so I doubt we'll be having a good night tonight again!!!

He's waking up more again now, so I'd better go and check on him!

xxx

Chooster · 20/05/2008 22:26

Oh, poor Toby fettle - he really sounds quite bad.. poor bugger.. and poor you as well as thats probably all you need after your op. Am interested to see how you get on with the coil as I was thinking about it as well. The potential weight gain would put me off at the moment as I've been really battling to shift some excess pounds, I'd be gutted if they plopped back on and without even the pleasure of eating cake .

Would love to meet up here fettle - we are about 10 mins from the zoo - really hope we are around when you are up .

Yes, the cruise - I am looking forward to it - kind of, but I'm a wee bit anxious in case the kids are ill or play up, or... I dont know, something equally as annoying.

oooh, 3 weedings to feel like normal people!! Thats fab Bodders!! You'll love every minute of it . I'd love to have that feeling again of having had a good night out and know that nothing and no-one is going to wake you up at the crack of dawn the next day . Theo has had 3 sleeps today but only totalling about an hour and a half whereas yesterday he had 2 massive 2 hour snoozes which was lovely at the time as it was a fabulous sunny day at my mums so we could chill out a bit, but am not sure getting up at 5.30am is worth it . So, here's hoping he'll sleep longer tomorrow. The most annoying thing about it is that he wakes Max up so for a while I'm running between the 2 bedrooms trying to get them both back to sleep, then after a while I give up and we plod downstairs.... [sigh]

Any news on the house Honey?

I reckon a srug of the shoulders about baby number 2 is definate progress Firsty!!! Good news . Whats your next step???

Phew, better go as am feeling really knackered today so going to head to bed...

By the way my little man took a couple of tentative steps today although he soon collapsed. It'll probably be ages before he does it again but I'm kind of hoping he'll walk a bit more on the cruise as it'll be kinder on his knees that crawling.

Anyway, I really am off now....

Hello all

Bodders - just e-mailed you from DH's hotmail account. Our home account can't e-mail hotmail addresses for some reason - we're considered spam by hotmail!

Let's see if this reaches you, or maybe we are just not meant to meet up!!!

Going sleeping soon - poor Toby still has a high temp and has already woken again this evening, so preparing for a bad night - hope I wake up tomorrow and he has all 20 teeth and then I don't have to worry about this teething malarky any longer (but I'll probably definitely have to give up breast-feeding!!).

love to all.

hi all

fettle- glad to hear the op went ok- hope your bits feel better soon. Poor old Toby- have you dosed him up on some calpol?

chooster- ah the cruise! I'm sure you will have a fab time. Happy belated birthday to max .

Well- we have actually accepted an offer on our little house! Very pleased- but a bit worried now about where we will end up- have seen a house I think has "potential" ... definitely needs a bit of TLC. Have to get DP to come and have a butchers... will keep you posted. It has a FAB garden which I have secretly fallen for...one of those that you can have proper games of hide and seek in!

Firtsy- what's all this about DP shrugging his shoulders... that is great progress! I'm sure you'll have a little bro or sis for Ty.

bodders- hello luv .

OP posts:
Bodkin · 21/05/2008 22:41

Fettle - hope you get a reasonable night's kip and Toby doesn't wake up too much... so you're still BFing - are you undecided about whether to stop or in the process of cutting down? It's funny - for every day that I spend thinking - argh this BFing is doing my nut in I wish I could stop soon, i have another day where i think gosh this is lovely I could carry on for ever! I think I've got a blocked duct though... so have been feeding a lot today to clear it.

Finally got your e-mail, hope you got mine!

Honeyapple - that all sounds pretty exciting on the house front - big garden for hide and seek sounds gorgeous!

Chooster - first steps eh? how exciting! Isla is doing lots of standing unaided for about 10 secs at a time before she plops back down on her bum again. I think Nelly was walking about 2 weeks after she started doing that, so better get babyproofing!

fettle · 22/05/2008 17:36

Hi All!

Great news on your house Honey - hope you are putting a complete within so many weeks or we'll put it back on the market clause - don't want to take any chances at the moment of people pulling out at the last minute. Your "new" house sounds lovely too! Garden sounds great. We've just had out garden landscaped - can't believe how quickly they did it all, but now we don't have a dull, dangerous grassy slope down to the river, it is now child-safe and pretty! Just need to buy some plants and plant them now in the new flower beds!

Bodders - glad we've managed to get in touch at last! Wonder why it is so hard to communicate!

Chooster, can't believe I missed yesterday that Theo had done some walking!! how fantastic! Can't believe how quickly these little babies are growing up!

Right better go take DC upstairs and start packing - off to the in-laws tom as DH and I have a wedding to go to on Saturday - bit worried about leaving Toby with someone he doesn't know (DD is staying with grandparents and Toby is going to friends of ours who live really close to the wedding, so I can put him to bed in the evening, if he uttterly refuses a bottle). He's still not himself - he's being dosed up every 3 hours with different medicines as I was advised by NHS direct last night as his temp went up to 39deg yesterday evening and I just wanted to check I was doing the right thing with him. Apart from having to squeeze his testicles while he was asleep to check for lumps while on the phone to NHS direct, they were very helpful. Poor Toby was pretty surprised to be woken up by something squeezing him!! but he just rolled over and went back to sleep when I'd finished! (just like a man).

anyway - hopefully he'll be better tomorrow. He's actually sleeping better recently, but that's probably because he is poorly!

big waves to everyone else lurking - come back and say hello to us all!!

xxx

fettle · 22/05/2008 17:38

PS - Bodders - still breast-feeding because as soon as I decided to stop, Toby became a model feeder again and both of us are loving it! I'm trying to get him to take bottle, as we are planning on sending him to nursery one day a week, so I can have some housework/DD time depending on school term or holidaytime, but he's not very consistent with it yet. See how saturday goes while we're at the wedding!

xxx

Bodkin · 23/05/2008 08:41

Fettle - have a great time at the wedding - am sure Toby will be an angel for his babysitter - that's handy you'll be able to pop back and put him to bed if need be.

Great to hear all back on track with the feeding again - same here! After all the biting and faffing around, she's been great lately. In fact, while I've been trying to feed her every 2 hours to clear this block, she's not refused yet (where normally she would either bite or not latch on if not hungry) and I think we've pretty much cleared it now - at least the redness has gone and the swelling has gone down a bit and i'm no longer in pain!

Will still stop feeding when she turns 1 though - would be nice to feel more like myself... BFing definitely makes me a bit "woolly" round the edges (can't explain it any better than that, but I'm just not as with it as I normally am!)

DP and DD1 went away for the night last night to join SIL in her caravan. Was a bit gutted that me and Isla weren't going - but couldn't risk a nightime screamathon... and lucky we didn't go - she woke at 2.30, 3.15, 5.30 and 6.45! Still, it has been lovely having just a small baby to look after! She's so fab these days, she just potters around amusing herself and investigating DD1s toys. So much happier now she is crawling properly...

Anyway, that's enough waffling.. better look lively and get her off to nursery - fingers crossed she has another good session there

Hey everyone - just one last post before my holiday - we leave tomorrow at 6am - lucky my boys get up at 5.30am eh . Actually they were good this morning and Max was 6.20am and Theo 6.45 so pretty good! Mind you they both seem a little under the weather which is such a shame - I hope its just a cold coming and nothing nastier as there was some scarlet fever at nursery a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure it would have emerged by now if they had it... Anyway, am probably just worrying as we are going away on a ship for a week - Eeeek!!!!

I can totally empathise with your 'should we' 'shouldn't we' debate in your head Firsty - I was probably nice and safe to think about another whgen DH was adamant he didn't want one . I think it is natural to feel a little anxious when another is being considered or even on the way. I spent so much energy ttc with DS2 (and i dont just mean the sex ) that when I was pregnant I suddenly started thinking "what if this isn't the right thing" Stupid now I look back but I guess its all natural . I think there is a saying that you never regret having a child but you may regret not having one - something like that... Just go with your gut feeling and dont rush yourself .

Fettle - How is Toby???? Really hope he settles tonight so you can have a good night out - he really has been under the weather hasn't he, poor lamb.

Bodkin - SO pleased to hear that Isla is becming easier to handle (apart from night time wakings that is!!). I always remember you saying that DD1 was a nightmare til she was 9 months and then it all got easier, seems like DD2 has followed the same pattern? Sounds like she'll be walking before you know it .

Great news on the house Honeyapple!!! That was really quick, but it is such a lovely place . Has DP been to see the other 'new house' yet??? Hope he likes it!!! Is he quite handy on the DIY???

Right better be off and at least pretend I've been busy, DH is out with DS1 at the hairdressers and he'll be a little pissed off if he thiks I've been surfing MN .

Love to all and have a great week next week!!

honeyapple · 26/05/2008 16:25

what a miserable wet bank holiday .

A bit p*ed off at the moment cos that house I liked the owner has decided not to sell she didnt realise she would have a big penalty on her mortgage or something... anyway so that is really annoying. Have looked at another house which is ok- having another look tommorrow with DP. It needs extending- but at least has another big garden- bit more of a blank canvas cos is just a big lawn- bit boring as it is... but again potential is there...It backs onto open fields which is lovely. The owners have just lost their buyers due to chain breaking down- so we are in quite a good position to make an offer... will keep you posted (sorry if i am boring you all!!)

chooster- hope the hol is great and the boys arent sick.

greedy- how is the bikini BTW? Bet you're looking gorgeous.

right bye for now xx

Yup - grotty weather round here today as well (although twas lovely yesterday and we spent the day on the beach!) Took DD1 to the circus - bloody awful! But I think she kind of enjoyed it, or at least, she was ecstatic to have some candy floss!

Honey - that's bad luck about the house, but the other one sounds like it could be just as good with a bit of tlc.

Firsty - can't believe you're moving again! That's a shame your current place hasn't worked out for you - there's probably a few boxes you haven't even unpacked yet - well, if it was me there would be

Chooster and Greedy - hope you're both having lovely hols... not jealous at all
