Morning all

Dex did another stupendous sleep... had to wake him up to feed him and take DC to school. Fingers crossed this is a pattern he is going to stick to.

Fettle- hope Toby is ok with the jabs... Dex has got his 2nd lot next week. What is the third injection for? Did they do the polio one in his mouth yet? Dex only had 2 jabs first time around. That Messiah was a bit gruesome!

mrs- any action overnight?

Seaside and Iampg- a lot of the lovely ladies on here were early- Bodders you were 38 wks, i think??

Sorry- so excited about the pending births that I cant remember what I was going to say to anyone else!

Great name, Klonky! DD calls Toby "totty"!! Very long story! Don't she realises that it probably isn't the most apt name for a baby boy!!!! Oh and why didn't you tell us about your laurel berry scare? hope Isla ok now?

Well finger food update... I tried Toby on those corn sticks this evening and he loved them. Wouldn't have his scrambled egg and spinach afterwards (too much iron in one dish maybe?). Anyway, he then ate a yoghurt and some mashed fruit and finally a small spoon of DD's jelly and then he decided to choke! On jelly FGS!!!!! Anyway, prompt all the food back up again! Great - in for a good night then!

BUT....after having a really lovely feed this morning and then sleeping really sweetly on my lap for over an hour (I know, I know, but it isn't often!!!), he then refused to stop feeding this evening for nearly an hour. Do you think he knows I'm planning on stopping?

Anyway enough about me me me and my really beautiful baby....

Rainbowy - just to reassure you (if you need reassuring!), we've just been looking at photos of DD when she was Toby's age (they look so similar it's spooky), but she was still a distinct shade of orange next to her friend, so she was obviously still a bit jaundiced even at 7/8 months.

Right, must post this quickly - we're in the middle of a big thunderstorm and the lights keep flashing on and off....

fettle · 09/05/2008 21:16

oh meant to say to Bodders... well done Isla on standing - very grown up! And good on you still feeding with both top and bottom teeth and biting[ouch]!!!!

We can compare bite marks when we meet up!!!! (I am joking.....).

Hi

Me and Mllie are fine, im still bf-ing, even htough we have had thrush my nipples, her mouth. that was so painful!! I had her registered this week, Millie Grace Jessamy [Surname]. she is real!! I am so broody again already. We have talked about another already, lol! do any of you used/have used bf-ing as contraception?

Bodkin · 11/05/2008 18:57

Hi all

Fettle - didn't mention the laurel berry thing as it was all fine in the end.. but I did panic a bit at first and came straight on here for some sensible advice! No ill effects in the end, and as she seems to have permanent squits (she is putting EVERYTHING in her mouth at the moment, so hardly surprising) it would be difficult to tell anyway!

Firsty - sounds like you had such a great holiday - where did you go - abroad or UK? It's hard when they're clingy isn't it (but kind of quite nice at the same time - DD1 was never clingy and I always wondered what I'd done wrong!) Your boy is a teething machine! 7 already! He can probably work his way through a rump steak by now then!

Scorpio - lovely name! Can't believe you're broody already! Wouldn't advise using BF as contraception, unless you don't mind getting up the duff again so soon... while I still haven't had a period yet (10 months of BFing) I know someone who has a 9 month old and is 7 months pregnant because she thought BF would be a good contraceptive - can you imagine.... makes me feel insane just thinking about that one!

Loving this gorgeous weather - hope it stays like this for the rest of the summer!

Any serious looking buyers yet Honeyapple?

OK, better go and sort out the bombsite that is my house...

rainbowdays · 11/05/2008 20:39

Hi all, we are really enjoying the gorgeous weather, I even ventured on a walk with the three kiddies by myself today. My lovely dh has gone away for 3 days and nights due to having to take exams. So the next few days will be a real test of my endurance for three little ones around me.

Scorpio - DO NOT rely on breastfeeding for contraception.... my mum, my sister and I all have fallen pregnant while breastfeeding... it does not work. I exclusively bf-d my dd, and was feeding regularly and often, but just with one gap of 6 hours the first night after being born, was enough to have my periods back at 6 weeks! Which is why I am being very careful now for a few weeks (abstaining!!!!) as I don't want another baby quite so soon!!

Got to go feed Jak again now.....!!!!

rainbowdays · 11/05/2008 20:42

Just wrote one post and lost it, so to summarize last post....

We are enjoying lovely weather,
I am alone with the 3 kiddies for next 3 days due to dh going away to do exams,

and message to scorpio - do not rely on breastfeeding for contraception, several in my family (including me) have got pg while b-fing!!!!

Will come back to write more sometime.

rainbowdays · 11/05/2008 20:44

Oh well perhaps I did not lose the post afterall..... arggggg!!!!

scorpio1 · 12/05/2008 09:39

oh ok a big no then, lol! She does exclusively bf and has a 6 hour gap at night. we have slipped up with contraception already though, will remember to be more careful as i thought it was more foolproof than that. Thanks

Bodkin · 12/05/2008 11:03

Hi Rainbow - good to hear from you! Sounds like you've got your hands full over the next few days - good luck! Have you got grandparents nearby who can help out?

Scorpio - sounds like you're doing well with the BF if Millie is doing a 6 hour stretch already!

scorpio1 · 12/05/2008 11:06

we did have thrush but i fed on through it and the meds have nearly cleared it. that hurt so much, it really did! we feed well, she has a good routine now that she has settled into, about every 2.5 hours-ish, more i nthe evenings. then she goes about 9.30pm - 3am, 3.30am - 6.30 am. i feel normal-ish!

Chooster · 12/05/2008 19:48

Ouch, I had thrush as well Scorpio and its very sore isn't it!! Hope it clears once and for all, as mine never quite seemed to go for about 3 weeks or so... Millie sounds like she's doing great though!!! . Its funny that all of us have been keen on having another very soon after having these little ones . Dh were chatting about it today - I know we'll not go for number 3 but we did chat about "what if... " today. .

I so know what you mean Bodkin with MrsMc - luckily for me I've seen the product of all those posts in ttc and on this thread, but it must feel like an unfinished book... Needless to say she's very happy though . Urgh, laurel berries - that sounds like a bit of a scare .

Good to hear from you Firsty!! And it sounds like you ahd a great break - it is hard getting back into the post-holiday routine isn't it. Hope today has been ok for you .

Gosh, rainbow - at home with the 3 of them for 3 days - how are you managing? Does DH have more exams after these ones? Was it teaching he was studying?

How is the egg and grapefruit diet Greedy??? I had a tummy bug (or dodgy meal) on saturday / sunday and have lost a further 3 pounds as a result - every cloud eh!!!!!

Things are all well here (apart from the sickness), had a busy weekend... Me and Max went to see the Thomas Live show and it was pretty good, then on saturday eve I went out at 3.30 for a friends birthday! I've not been out at that time for ages!. There's an old cimema in town that holds film parties, so you can chose a classic film and your friends can watch it in a 30 seat theatre. There's chilled wine and nibbles in the theatre you can help yourself to, and it was relaly good fun... We watched Dirty Dancing so it was a nice cheesy way to spend an afternoon . Then dinner, drinks and back by midnight for the start of my puking . It wasn't drink related though honest...

Bodkin · 12/05/2008 20:33

Chooster - that sounds like a fab afternoon/evening out! Shame about the upchucking at the end though... still, like you say, 3 lbs is 3lbs
I had forgotton about your problems with thrush at the beginning - you did so well to carry on BF through that, must have been agony! I keep getting very excited about the prospect of stopping BF in.... 9 weeks (when she can go on normal cows milk) Unfortunately, I don't think Isla is going to be as keen as me to stop! She seems to have gotten over her biting fetish, and is now very much attached to my bosoms, enjoying a good 2 feeds a night currently I did have her taking 4oz of formula from a cup in the evenings so she would get used to it, but when she had her tummy bug I thought it best to just stick to the boob juice, and now of course she is barely taking 2oz from the cup...

BTW, I never did say how tickled I was by your post about Max's sleep-puking and the poor drownded action men...it is an image that will stay with me for some time!

I also had a "what if" chat with DP the other day.... but more along the lines of "oh my god what the hell would we do if we had an accident as there is absolutely no way I want another baby" I was contemplating going and asking if I could have another coil put in as back-up....

Great to hear that MrsMc is happy - how is Xavier's sleeping these days? I understand she had a bit of a mare at the beginning. In fact.....there's loads of questions I want answering! Which routine did she go with in the end? Is she still BF - if so how is it going? Is she broody again yet - will they try again soon? Is Xavier a mellow baby or a bit of a squawker? Ha ha, i'm bloody nosey aren't I

fettle · 12/05/2008 21:05

I want to know all those answers too Bodders about Xavier! We are nosy, but that's we stalk people on MNs!!

Toby too seems to have stopped biting so much and seems to feed for up to an hour at a time again - means I get to catch up on brother's and Sisters during the day, but a bit tiresome during the night. He's still got really loose nappies and is being sick at least once a day after something/anything makes him wretch, so he's waking at least twice a night. Last night I opened his door to be greeted by the loudest tummy rumble I'd ever heard! Poor boy. Had his 8 month check this afternoon and he's only put on an oz in 5 weeks, so i assume he's lost a lot with this stomach bug - hope it gets better soon, don't want him wasting away! his top two teeth keep poking through and then disappearing again, so that can't be helping him either.

Anyway.......Scopio = great to hear from you. You sound as if you and Millie are doing wondefully! Well done perserving through the thrush as everyone else has said!

Chooster - interesting to hear you talking about possibly having another one. Thought you were a definite no-no! Your afternoon sounds fantastic! Horrible tummy bug wasn't it? Knocked us all out for a couple of days - DD had it the least thank goodness, so no drowning toys to deal with here!!

Firsty - been missing you. Glad you had a good holiday. I hope your first day back wasn't too hard. Any sign of walking yet from your little big man?

Right - tired to so going sleeping now!

Take care all
xxx

Chooster · 13/05/2008 10:43

well, I'll try to fill you in on little Xavier .

He's a smileym little chap but MrsMc says he's LOUD when he wants his milk... She is still breastfeeding but has to use the nipple shields still which I think she is finding a bit annoying, but Xaview just wont latch on properly to bare flesh and as she has been using them since he was born she doesn't think she'll be able to get him away from them now that he is about 15 or so weeks. She said he slept well when they were away on holiday but has times when he is awake for a couple of hours at a time during the night. As for another one they are fairly keen and not really taking any precautions, and she did say that if nothing has happened by Autumn then they may try with a bit more vigour . And thats about it really!!!! Moving soon and then she's got to look for a job over there...

Not long to got then Bodkin!!! Mmm, it does sound like Isla is going to be a bit keen on keeping hold of those boobs . I can't believe our LO's (and Ty) are 1 soon - how the hell did that happen . I just dont know where the time has gone?!

Hey Fettle - It sounds like Toby has got what Theo had, being sick randomly once a day or so, usually when he had had a cough or eaten something that made him gag a wee bit. It was a real pain but is all cleared up now and his appetite is back . So we are enjoying food time again . I dont think our "number 3" conversation will ever amount to anything as I dont think either of us actually wants another baby but there is that small "it would be nice though", I think especially as Theo has generally been a good and easy baby.

Bodkin · 13/05/2008 11:33

Ah, cheers for that Chooster - my curiosity has now been sated!

I have discovered a wonderful way to help Isla sleep at night...

We currently have 4 workmen outside our house - 2 doing stuff in the garden like breaking up concrete and generally whacking things very hard and 2 doing stuff in the spare room and using a bandsaw to cut up wood.... so you can imagine the noise. Isla has now been asleep for 2 hours without a peep! The bandsaw is outside her bedroom window! If only I had known all I needed to do was get the workmen in I'd have been getting my recommmended 8 hours a night a long time ago

fettle · 13/05/2008 13:35

hope your workmen are keeping their shirts on Bodders (although if you were Greedy, we'd have to keep our eyes on you!!!!). Can you afford to keep them working for a few years while you catch up some sleeping?!

Chooster - thanks for the Xavier update - glad they are thinking of another one. hope her AN care is as good over in Spain as it was over here, but at least she's been through it once, so knows what to expect and ask for!

Have to go rescue Toby who's trying to play the Wii!, but thanks also for reassuring me about Toby's sickness. It sounds as if it is the same thing and I'm pleased to know that he will get better soon. DD had it from birth til 3.5years, so really didn't want Toby to be like that! I'll just stick with plain, very pureed stuff and keep my finger's crossed he doesn't gag for a while longer! We did have a relatively firm poo earlier today though, so maybe he's getting better.

Right - he's now got DD's books, so I'm off!

iamamummy · 13/05/2008 14:02

hello ladies!!

i know it has been such a long time since my last post but things have just been manic here!

chooster - sorry there has been a lot of sickness going around in your family i laughed so much with the image of the drowning action men in puke - hilarious! glad to hear mrsmc and xavier are doing well - it is such a shame we havnt had her back on this thread but hopefully when she is settled we may hear a catch up from her, please send her my love x

rainbow - how is little jak? cant believe you are thinking of number 4 already your children must be angels!

honey and greedy - im so pleased your meeting went well. i am in bedfordshire which i think is miles away from anyone here

fettle - sorry to hear toby has been sick lately too, these bugs really are going around arnt they!

i had so much to say but my mind has gone blank - i read up on you all every few days but just never have time for a post!

Oscar is doing fabulously and he is such a big boy now so alert and full of life! he sleeps now from 7pm to 5am so me and df get a bit of quality time in the evening which is lurvely!
he is 14 weeks now and i know i probably shouldnt have but he is so much happier for it - i started him on baby rice 3 weeks ago just a few small mouthfulls in the evening with his bottle and he now has a tiny bit of baby cerreal in the morning and carrot/brocoli in the evening. he really enjoys it and takes it brilliantly and goes 4 hours now between feeds instead of two. his feed before bed i was having to give him 14ozbefore he would settle so thats what started the weaning off. i havnt mentioned it to the hv as i know i will get a bollokin but i did what i felt was right.

i hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather as much as we are!

take care all xx

big hellos to everyone i havnt mentioned xx

greedygreedyguzzler · 13/05/2008 14:32

hey iamamummy - you do whatever you think is right with weanng oscar. cant believe you ARE weaning already though...not cos its too early just cos they all seem to be growing up SO fast!!! i weaned all of mine early and its not done them any harm i dont think (apart from they were/are all huge !)

talking of which i got marcy weighed and she was 23lb!!! she has officially gone off the top of the graphs now!!! i thought she hadnt been eating much recnetly either cos she has been really off her food with teething and illness, but she is gaining weight at an alrming rate all the same!!!

she isnt very well at the moment poor little pickle! she has a chest infection and so i got some antibiotics and a ventalin inhaler for her yesterday. she has had (and so have i as a result!) 2 really crap nights sleep but amazingly yesterday she was so chilled and happy all day even though she sounds like an old man on 40 a day when she coughs! the dr. wasnt going to give her any medication and she very obligingly coughed as we got up to leave and he said "Ooooooooo, that does sound bad, i'd better take another look!"........erm........ yes! i did tell you she was bad you daft ol' doc! anyway, just hope she gets a bit better before we go on holiday on fri.

everyone has been chatty on here for a change, its back to how it used to be! yippee!

i have decided dh and i will have our baby talk on holiday..........think im just fed up with work and would like some more time off again!!!

i lost 6lb on my egg and grapefruit diet, not the 7lb i was promised, but not bad!!! so thats 1stone 12 lb i have lost since xmas...........i am so pleased with myself!!!

chooster - your afternoon / night out sounds lovely. apart from the end obviously!!! i cant believe you weighed yourself after puking!!! although i had the runs the other night at about 3am (probably to do with my egg and grapefruit diet!) and i weighed myself afterwards!!! how sad are we hey!!!???

bodders - did i miss something with these berries or is this some secret story you told fettle in an email and she just happened to mention it on here to make us all feel left out?!!!

I LOVE THE SUNSHINE!!!!! its getting me in the mood for holiday!!!! i am so excited, but so disorganised....i can see me staying up all night on thur night packing!!!

oh well, better go to the bank and then get my little boy from school and take my little girl no. 1 to ballet!

chooster - tell mrs i dont miss her at all!!!!

honeyapple - you said you were hot in your last post!!!! did you ever cool down or are you still sizzling like a saussage?

iamamummy · 13/05/2008 16:54

greedy - i hope the antibiotics kick in soon for marcy and you both get some sleep.
so you are going to try for numero 4 possibly?! we will have to start another ttc thread as me and df are toying with the idea of trying again after the summer (only reason for delay is so i dont miss out on getting pissed at all the bbqs we will have lined up over summer

would you be able to email me the egg n grapefruit diet??? if you can its loudini at hotmail dot co dot uk. i am dying to shed a few pounds before my birthday next months but my attempts are failing!

Chooster · 13/05/2008 19:21

Me too for the grapefruit and egg diet! But only as long as you dont end up starving yourself as I get very grumpy if I'm hungry , but am very impressed at the 6lbs loss... Have you reached your target weight now??

Great to hear from you Iamamummy! As Greedy says you need to do what you think is for the best really and as long as Oscar is enjoying it then thats great! Sounds like he's going to enjoy his food .

Wow, 23lbs Greedy!! she is pretty big! Not sure how much Theo is but I would think about 22lbs now, and he's a fair size. So, baby number 4... I guess the way your kids behave on holiday will be th decider on whether you add to your numbers or not . Wonder where we'll all be in a few years and who will have had more. Firsty, are you still trying to persuade DH?

Off for a walk along hte sea front tonight, lovely night so am looking forward to it. Speak soon!!! Happy Packing Greedy .

How was the nursery visit in the end Bodkin? Theo has his familiarisation visits in the first week in June, just after we get back from hols... Hope he'll be OK

honeyapple · 13/05/2008 20:21

hello all-

hiya iamamummy- great to hear from you. I started Dex on solids quite early- about 16 weeks I think and he really took to it- I really believe that a mum can tell what their baby wants/needs... HVs just tend to follow set guidelines- and I could NEVER have held off giving dex solids till now! He would have been miserable.

Well havent sold the house yet!! Although had lots of positive viewings- just had to show a couple around myself an hour ago. Kids were very good and just sat quietly and watched telly...

Dex crying I thought he had gone to bed.....back later xx

OP posts:
honeyapple · 13/05/2008 20:42

BTW great weightloss greedy- but egg and grapefruit diet??? WTF??? Sounds disgusting! I am VERY of your imminent holiday. Although I guess we have had some fab weather here.

I am having a laugh looking around houses (I know not yet in a position to offer...but just doing some research). Hvent seen anything I love- more that I hate actually . Kind of depressing. Everything still madly expensive in my neck of the woods...

Cant believe that some of our LOs will be 1 soon! We'll have to have an online party to celebrate and all eat jelly and icecream simultaneously...Or eggs and grapefruit...

OP posts:
greedygreedyguzzler · 14/05/2008 13:11

the diet is a bit long winded and i have searched for it on the internet and cant find it. i will have to copy it all out of the magazine if you really want it iamamummy which will take ages so i am afraid you will have to wait till i get back from my hols and i have some time!!!

marcy is asleep at the mo and i am supposed to be packing but obviously im not!!! she really isnt very well still and sounds horrible everytime she coughs. at least she only woke up once last night and i gave her a puff on her inhaler and she went back to sleep, so we all got much more sleep last night. i hate the kids being ill, i think thats a good reason not to have anymore.....imagine having 4 kids all ill at the same time!!! piles!.........thats another good reason not to have anymore, and morning sickness.............so many reasons!

my sister has just started ttc again, so hopefully by the time i get back from hol she could be pg!!! you never know!!!

i love looking round other peoples houses too honeyapple! think im just really nosey, but its always so hard to imagine actually living somewhere else isnt it? how long have you been in your current house?

i did have loads to say, but i really better go and do something, so goodye girlies for a couple of weeks, doubt if i will get a chance to come on here tomorrow unless one of my patients cancels in the afternoon. hope the sunshine continues for you all and that your little babies behave themselves! byyyeeeeeee!!
