Morning all

Dex did another stupendous sleep... had to wake him up to feed him and take DC to school. Fingers crossed this is a pattern he is going to stick to.

Fettle- hope Toby is ok with the jabs... Dex has got his 2nd lot next week. What is the third injection for? Did they do the polio one in his mouth yet? Dex only had 2 jabs first time around. That Messiah was a bit gruesome!

mrs- any action overnight?

Seaside and Iampg- a lot of the lovely ladies on here were early- Bodders you were 38 wks, i think??

Sorry- so excited about the pending births that I cant remember what I was going to say to anyone else!

Only got a few mins

thanks for all the lovely words and support over our doggie - we are very sad I have to say our other doggie is doing OK so far.
Ready - lovely to see you - you are supposed to be here and we love to have you here

Firsty - we start swim classes in 2 weeks and were told to get a Happy Nappy and wear it with a disposable swim nappy underneath - I ordered the Happy Nappy online and it arrived yesterday - very cute and tight!! nothing is making its way out of it!! It is basically a big pair of neoprene pants. I got mine from Amazon online (£7.50) but noticed they had them in the blooming marv catalogue also hth

Scorpio - so sorry about you nan how sad and so quick. doesnt it seem strange how often someone close passes away just around the time a new baby arrives?

Hang in there rainbowey!!

fettle - have a fab holiday !

gotta go cassius gurgling form his swing chair!

btw - he has slept through the last 2 nights!! - just woken at 3 and fidgeted - so I give him the dummy and shove a pillow over my head and go back to sleep and so does he! prob wont last!

Also thanks for input on jabs - we are having them on monday [quake]

right really gotta go

xx

hiya

Last night I went up to London to meet some friends as it was one of my bestest and oldest friends birthdays- it was great! Knocked back a few drinks and got a teeny bit merry . Felt like I had left my 'bubble' for a few hours which was really needed. Must do it more often. DP was fine with all the kids and Dex was happy (apparently)- he is so easy- doesnt seem to have much of a preference between bottles and boobies.

bodders- I attempted a 'dreamfeed' last night with Dex at about 11.30pm (when I got home)- but he was SO sleepy that he only managed to nibble my nipple for 5 seconds- and then went back into deep zonk... I think he woke up about 4am- and then ended up in bed with us.

rainbowdays- come on Jak! How's the nursery taking shape? I am jealous- I've never had a nursery room either .

Ready- hello lovely- how are you? Please pop in whenever you like- we all love to hear from you (hoping to hear some good news soon too).

Firsty and Seaside- going to have to look up this happy nappy now! I've just put Dex on the waiting list for baby swim classes at my local pool (waiting list!!!). Really must get round to taking him swimming soon- maybe this weekend...

hola to everyone else x

fettleandbabyfettle · 28/03/2008 19:29

Hello again!

I am on holiday, but as I'm staying with my parents, my Dad's laptop is always out, so it is easy to pop on and say hello - as long as I can kick him off!!!

Rainbow - nursery decorating sounds fun! We've not done it either, as we've always been in rented accommodation and unable to decorate and then for Toby we had a whole house to decorate, so his room seems to have been left til last! Glad your Mum has made it safely and in time - how long is she staying? Hope Jak arrives before she leaves! BTW, I got your e-mail but never got around to replying before we left, but I'm the fruit one, if that makes any sense to you!!!

Bodders - good plan on changing the re-viewing of the Venture photos. I'm sure you could get just as good photos done at a local place, but you wouldn't be totally sure of it and at least with VEnture you know you will get some good pictures! We love ours and will be doing something similar with Toby as soon as I can get around to arranging it! Good idea to set a limit though - if it helps I think we paid about £125 in the end - seems a lot, but the photos are gorgeous, particularly after we got a friend to frame them properly (much cheaper than getting the framed Venture ones!!).

Honey - Dex sounds so relaxed - Toby is just not interested in a bottle from anyone - only boob will do! Glad you had a good night out!

So far I've been skiing twice and he's just managed without any milk while I've been away, but he's been waking every 1-2 hours through the night (totally and uttlerly shattered emoticon!!), so he's probably getting enough then! We've tried not feeding him before anyone says, but he then just wakes up again 30-40 mins later (if we're lucky, normally more quickly!). Going to have to do something about it when we get home, but currently he still has a really chesty cough, which is making him sick at times and he's obviously teething quite badly at the moment. Thankfully he's such a lovely, happy, smiley, laughy little boy during the day, or else he'd be down Barnardo's by now!!! (I'm only joking!)

Ready - lovely as always to see you here - you do belong with us!

Firsty - great to hear from you!!! Happy and relaxed sounding as always!

All this talk of swimming, I've only taken Toby once, must make more of an effort. We're on a waiting list for baby swimming too in our local pool, but I think Toby will be a teenager before we get to the top (same with our local Mothers and Toddlers group!!). Taking DD tomorrow afternoon, so if Toby is up to it, may take him down.

Proud Mother alert!! DD's skiing is getting on so well - she's now totally skiing snowplough on her own down more challenging beginner runs - so proud of her!

Right - better go to bed! Keep everything crossed for us that Toby starts sleeping again - he did used to before Christmas! He has to again doesn't he?!

Hi Fettle-

frustrating isnt these boys who used to sleep well turning into night monkeys ... shame Toby isnt interested in bottles- mind you neither of my other two would take a bottle- so it is rather a nice novelty that Dex will. I think he would eat anything put in front of him TBH... I can't eat anything without him squeaking for some- can't wait till he is 6mths to introduce gluten and let him have some bread etc...
Wow at your skiing DD! I've never been skiing- don't think I ever will as now would be too scared- wished I'd gone as a kid.
Waiting list for toddler group?? That seems a bit much- arent there any you can just turn up to? It took nearly a year for DD to get swimming lessons- hope it doesnt take that long with the baby class .
When are you back home?

fettleandbabyfettle · 29/03/2008 19:23

Hi all

STill no babies!!! One of my really close friends had her baby this morning and I'm so jealous of her having this lovely newborn time! But I'm pretty sure I don't want another - can't cope with the sleep deprivation again. Just have to make sure I go and see her next week and get some cuddles!!!

Took Toby swimming this afternoon, you all spurred me on! He absolutely loved it - especially DD swimming up to him underwater nad then jumping up just in front of him - never heard such loud giggles!!

Can't quite believe it, but despite the sleep deprivation and the fact that I just want to go to bed now - DH and I are about to go out for dinner again (just us!) - that's twice in a week, we've only been out just the two of us about twice in 4 years up and until that point!! (excluding weddings, which aren't really alone times!).

Honey - I'm still too scared to give Toby lumps - do you think I should just give him some bread to chew on? I think he's getting bored with rice and fruit and veg? He loved his avocado the last few days though. Also has Dex's excema all cleared up? Toby's patch on his face that he was almost born with has spread and gone quite yellow and crusty - typical it always happens while you are away - I'm going to try and get an appointment booked on Monday for when we home, but not sure what to do in the meantime - just putting sudocrem and/or acqueous cream on it at the mo. What did you get for Dex's? Just hoping he not allergic to something he's eating?

Anyway, better get ready to go out - don't forget the clocks change tonight!!! Don't know why but I love this extra hour (despite the fact it is actually less sleep - just the psychology of thinking the children have slept in an extra hour! (wishfully thinking that Toby actually lets me sleep tonight (last night was every 30 mins for DH for 3 hours, til I gave in a fed him, then every 1.5hours til 6am! so we have no trouble getting him to sleep, just getting him to stay asleep (any suggestions?)))).

honeyapple · 30/03/2008 14:28

hi fettle-

dex has been rubbish the last 2 nights too ... waking every 2 hours- I fed him the night before last but he still kept waking- so last night I decided to try and cry/cuddle/walk it out... 1.5hrs later... and I had to give in and feed him. He even drank some water from a bottle and that didnt help. As for food- rice cakes are quite a good thing for babies to munch on cos they melt and so are less likely to cause choking fits. Or toast maybe? Unfortunately Dex has got a few patches of excema back again- particularly sore behind one of his knees- it looks all swollen and is a bit weepy. I put some sudocrem on too. GP gave me bath oilatum, diprobase cream and a very mild steroid cream... hope Toby's isnt too serious.

back later

hello all!

glad you are having fun on hol fettle, even if you cant stop thinking about us all the time! cant believe how sporty your dd is. my ds would never be able to ski, he is the clumsiest child in the world!

honey - i cant wait to be able to give marcy a it of bread to chew on either! one minute i think its ridiculous that i am waiting 10 more days until she is officially 6 months and think why dont i just give her some now, but then i think i would feel guilty if she ended up intolerant to wheat my my ds is and i would blame myself for giving her wheat 10 days before i am 'allowed'!!!

had such a busy week cos its been easter hols here already so havent had a chance to come on here at all, wanted to check on baby progress though and i see they are both still in situ at the moment.

chooster - are you finding it tougher now that theo has started moving around? i remember with dd1 suddenly finding it tough when she started moving around and i had 2 of them to keep an eye on. it was fine when she just sat and didnt move. i am not too keen for marcy to start moving, although i dont think she will for ages anyway. she LOVES her jumperoo now by the way! the last few weeks she has suddenly 'got it' and jumps around like a complete looney giggling away! it was so worth the money.

firsty - hiya! thanks for asking about my sis. i spoke to her tonight and she seemed absolutely fine. she reckons she is getting the beginings of af as well and is all set to start ttc this month. she might change her mind in a couple of weeks i guess. ty sounds very cute!!! wish you had a profile with some pics! think hes the only baby i havent seen.

seaside - good old cassius sleeping through! i knew there had to be a few more good sleepers on this thread somewhere!!!

whoever said about the swim nappy holding in leaks...............they dont!!! not unless you have some new type amazing one that i have never seen before. they kind of hold in poo if you are ever unlucky enough for them to get pooed in, but the wee just comes out and feels all warm on your tummy if you are holding them! or maybe its just i have always bought crap swim nappies!

glad to hear there are a few slummy mummies around!!!

we have been stranded in the house all week cos my car has been out of action. so we have had various different friends round to play and i have been so impressed with ellis and kiki. they play together so nicely and they have been the best of friends all week. it makes my heart melt when i watch them together and they are having so much fun. THATS what makes me want more!!!! must be the drink talking again hey!!

i know i have forgotten to say loads of stuff, there are tonnes of us on here now arent there, its getting hard to keep up! must try harder........

greedygreedyguzzler · 30/03/2008 22:31

how does everyone else manage to write posts that make sense and flow nicely and i cant?!! it would take me far too long if i tried to structure my posts! mind you i feel like i am always apologizing for how crap they are when i could just spend the time it takes to apologize making them decent in the first place!!!

oh dear...........wafle waffle!!!
night night!

scorpio1 · 31/03/2008 11:16

I'm still here....

scorpio1 · 31/03/2008 11:16

what i mean is Millie is still in there....am crampy today though, 38+3.

Chooster · 01/04/2008 10:05

Hey everyone! Have been away this weekend to my mums so its been a busy one - Glad to see I haven't missed any new arrivals!

Yeahhh! For cassius sleeping seaside . He can join Marcy in the 'good baby' camp as she was getting a bit lonely in there . The rest of us seem to have babies that dont sleep well - whats that all about . Theo is not doing too bad but he still wakes once a night but its usually about 4am / 5 am ish... When I was at mums Theo and I share a bedroom and DH and Max share, so when Theo was doing his usual wake up I'd just bring him in for a cuddle and he'd go back off. So on Sunday when we were back home I cuddled him but put him back in his cot at about 5am and he was SO cross!!!! It was almost like he was saying "Oi woman, we have cuddles in bed at this time now, I dont go back in my cot!!!!". Even after 3 nights he'd obviously got in a little routine. Anyway he was really shouting and was not at all happy so I sent DH in to deal with it .

Glad to hear that your Sis is feeling positive Greedy - I hope she's as successful getting pregnant as last time as it was pretty quick wasn't it??? My friend who is having IVF finds out if its worked tomorrow - am just praying its worked. Great that Ellis and Kiki have been great this last week - it must be so lovely seeing them play . Yes I am finding it much harder now Theo is on the move. He keeps pulling himslef up all the time so Ive got to be on hand in case he wobbles and knocks himself. Like you say I need to keep my eye on him all the time. As a result Max is getting a bit less attention so he's been a bit naughtier than normal.

Very glad that it looks like Millie and Jak are on their way soon! I can't wait to read another birth story .

All this talk of Venture has made me want to get it done too. We used a local photographer to get some pics of Max done when he had just turned 1 and I think we'll do the same when Theo turns 1. They came out really well , but I dont think they are as unique as the Venture ones.

Phew, better head off.... Theo is stirring so need to get a couple things finished before he starts shouting... By the way has anyone met a fellow MN-er through the local MN section. I've been CAT-d by a fellow Edinburgh person and we were thinking of meeting up.

Hi - sorry I've been awol for ages...combination of Easter Holidays (well, in Dorset anyway, everywhere else seems to still be at school!) and Isla being really poorly with a very high temperature for about a week. She's better now but it's been hard work juggling a bored 4 year old and a clingy whimpering hot baby! Just makes it soo much nicer now things are back to normal - like that book "a squash and a squeeze" - make your life loads harder and then when it's back to normal you appreciate it more!

On the plus side - Isla slept really well last night - woke at 8.20pm but not really sure why - she didn't seem unwell... gave her some medised anyway (which she coughed back up) and put her back to bed at 9pm.... then she slept until 6.30!!! can't imagine I will be so lucky tonight but I shall celebrate while I can!

Better go and carry on playing in the tent with DD1 - she's getting lonely!

fettleandbabyfettle · 02/04/2008 19:06

Ooooh congrats

Will let her tell the April ladies

fettleandbabyfettle · 02/04/2008 20:39

Hello - back again - children sleeping peacefully now and DH is off out to get a curry (naughty I know, but we've nothing in the house and I don't fancy baby rice and pureed fruit!).

Both DC were so beautifully behaved today - DD turned 4 yesterday and so far seems to have matured so much more than 1 day!!! Quite incredible, like it was a mental block to her being 3 and 4 is positively grown up!! Anyway, she'll no doubt be back to her normal, tantrumy self tomorrow, but it's been lovely while it lasted!! It was so lovely being able to actually go skiing with her and DH yesterday (while Mum looked after Toby) - can't believe how great her skiing has come on...

Anyway, Toby has a .......tooth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrived at some point this morning, as I'm sure it wasn't there when he woke up, but was there by 9am and is definitely there now!!!! Might explain the sleeping problems recently. We moved out of his room the last few nights and his sleeping got much better as I was able to ignore him for a bit longer and he managed to settle himself a few times before I had to go to him - see how we fare tonight now we are back home again. Despite this teething though, he too has been an angel today, despite our diversion to another aiport and 2 hour coach journey back to our original airport to pick up the car!

Such great news about Rainbowy - picked up the message on the coach and it really cheered me up from my grump at a certain airline! But that's why I can't remember exactly when he was born, think 0750 and how much he weighed exactly, but can't wait to hear the details from Rainbow herself when she's ready!

Greedy - great to hear your sister is sounding positive. Good luck to her. Found out yesterday that my brother and wife are expecting in Nov - so excited, they've been trying for a while too! Fingers crossed all goes ok for them.

Bodders - poor isla, poor you! hope all is better now. How you feeling about next week? I'm happy either way, although currently, I'm not sure I face a long car drive, but that's only after my journey today, sure I'll be better tomorrow!

Chooster - at Theo wanting his cuddles - don't blame him!!!! Toby was coming into bed with us about that time during his really bad sleeping time, but thankfully hasn't seemed to annoyed to be back in his cot recently - but I can hear him stirring already, so hope I not in for an awful night tonight!

Honey/Firsty - thanks for the rice cake thoughts - forgotten about them. DD is only 4, but I seem to have forgotten everything already!!

Right, better go and clear the kitchen before DH is back.

big waves to everyone else

Chooster · 02/04/2008 20:40

Back again...

Sorry you've been having a tough time Bodkin - its awful when they are sick isn't it... especially for over a week! You must be knackered and a bit fed up yourself. Hopefully she's much better now though?

Welcome back Fettle! Shame about the journey home but it sounds like you had a brilliant time and loads of good Mrs Fettle / Mr Fettle time . How is Toby's face now? And how is Dex's excema Honey?

Actually I forgot to mention that I'd finally stopped breastfeeding. Its definately the best thing as I was just persuading Theo to have some milk when I was bf whereas now he gets all excited when he sees his bottle ready and reguarly takes about 7oz, so I think the time had come. It still feels a bit wierd that I no longer bf especially as Theo is my last , but its better in the long run really. All in all everything is good here, the boys are on good form and we've been having loads of fun - it was boiling up here today! Hope it was just as nice a day for everyone else! Right, better be off, going to try to find a castle to get for Max's 4th b'day - obviously the toy kind not the real thing in case you thought we were loaded there for a second

Bodkin · 02/04/2008 22:03

Yay well done Rainbowdays and welcome baby Jak! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Chooster - Aww, bet you feel a bit about finishing BF, but have to admit I am a bit ! It's a funny old thing, I am enjoying it still, but I can see that it is making as many problems as it solves... i.e. she still doesn't eat much in the way of solids (prefers BM), she still wakes in the night to feed etc.... but it is so easy and convenient....

Fettle - welcome home - sounds like you had a great time and your DD has really taken to the slopes!
We can holdfire on next week... I'm planning to go to stay with a friend in London on Friday (on my own with both kids) so that will involve a fair bit of driving.. I might not feel up to another day out on my own with the kids so soon after... But that day in the week would always be good for me as DD1 has no pre-school then, so we can reschedule for another week, or perhaps even half-term... whatever you think

We did the Venture thing today - it was quite good fun actually.. but I'm glad I had done my research and was quite assertive in the viewing... it seemed to me that they took all the best pics and previewed them to us in the really expensive format... it was only when I kept saying "but you could do that in a 10x8" that he had to admit that they could. And when I asked if it could be done in a 5x7 (for my mum) he said , "no, i don't think so, it [the computer] won't let me do it, look" and then when he tried to do it, ha ha, the computer did let him do it [he looked a bit gutted!] So we got 3 really nice shots of the four of us - one B&W and two colour. Spent £200 and DP got flashed by a speed camera on the way so not the cheapest day out we've ever had, but good fun anyway!

rainbowdays · 02/04/2008 23:52

Well We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of JAK. Thanks fettle for passing on the message for me!

He arrived at 7.40am today Wednesday 02.04.08, born at home after a very quick labour of only 1hour and 40 mins (ambulance arrived too late!). Weighing 9lbs with no pain relief other than TENS available (ouch!)

I am exhausted but doing ok. Baby is doing very well.

Rainbow! Congratulations- blimey- Jak certainly arrived speedily so happy for you that you had him at home- although where you planning on going into hospital? (ambulance?). Very impressed that you have managed to post on the actual day he was born! Can't wait to see some pics.

Goingfor3! Hiya! How are you?

Chooster- about BF- you did a good long time for Theo- kind of get the feeling Dex will give up by about 8mths... he is eating so well and really gets excited when he sees a bottle too! Mind you, some times boob seems to be the only thing he wants- especially at 3am .

bodders- interesting about the venture thing. How did you get the free 'experience'... I've seen it normally costs £125 just for the shoot . How much do their big canvases cost?

Feeling a bit shit today for some reason- got a weird nausea(sp?) thing... keep feeling like I'm going to puke...think it is too many nights being woken up. Gotta feel better soon as going out tonight with DP (WOW!)... going to see Derren Brown... should be good fun.

Dex waking up... lots of love to all...
