@AliceinSlumberland thank you! I had a scan two weeks ago and all was fine but obviously this has sent me into panic mode x

CinderellaFant · 09/09/2022 10:24

@DBS94 I have been suffering with horrendous constipation. Yesterday I ate 12 prunes, 2 pears, 3 oranges and 45ml lactulose and couldn't get off the toilet all night 🙈 feel like a new (empty) woman today 😂

Marshmallowmountain · 09/09/2022 10:50

Had a scan this morning at 7w 3d. They put me a day or so behind, and CRL is 10.8mm which looks okay based on my googling? I have another scan in just over 2 weeks as I had spotting and pain early on. My local EPU has been absolutely fantastic.

Congrats @Marshmallowmountain lovely pic!!

I thought I'd share something re nausea/sickness... so yesterday I took a different prenatal supplement to usual, called Cytoplan. I'd been taking them during preconception but switched to the Terra Nova ones once pregnant as when I had bloods done, my vitamin B12 levels were high when I first got pregnant and Cytoplan has a high level of B12 so didn't want to be over doing it.

Anyway, thought I'd just try them yesterday to mix it up. And yesterday, whilst I felt sick much of the day, I didn't vomit and definitely didn't feel as nauseous. I looked into it and higher B12 in supplements can actually help reduce vomiting in pregnancy. So I'm quite intrigued. I took my normal ones today so I'll see if I'm back to feeling horrid today. But thought I'd share. I think there has been some limited research to suggest a very, very high level of B12 being a risk factor for autism when pregnant, so I don't want to take loads and loads but equally, if it helps with nausea and sickness that's a win!

Unrelated to pregnancy I was low in B12 a few years ago so started taking a supplement. I now have good levels of it in my blood. When I was researching it I read its very hard to overdo it with B12 so it should be fine to take a hefty dose if it helps with sickness :)

Dragonfly909 · 09/09/2022 12:16

Haven't posted in a while! I got away with not feeling too bad for a bit, but now at 7 weeks I am exhausted! Don't remember it being this bad with my previous pregnancy, but I felt more sick last time so it's a trade off! Anyone else constantly shattered, how are you coping, especially if you already have little ones? 😴

Longbin · 09/09/2022 13:26

Me too @Dragonfly909. Far less sick this time, much more exhausted. I'm not really coping that well, just a lot of early nights for me. I haven't socialised or seen wider family in weeks as I just don't have the energy

Tropicana1 · 09/09/2022 13:48

@DBS94 I've been really constipated and hammered a whole punnet of grapes yesterday which helped 🤣

faithtrustandpixiedust · 09/09/2022 15:27

@Skylark1990 that's interesting, I switched last week because the ones I had been taking had ran out and were out of stock in the shop and my sickness hasn't been half as bad. I hadn't considered it might be the multivitamins helping.

ancienthouse · 09/09/2022 15:56

I have wild nutrition multivits plus extra B6 and they don't seem to be helping at all. Plus they taste foul and I gag trying to get them down at the minute!

I haven't been sick for a few days, I've been lying down immediately after eating and willing myself not to be sick which seems to be working. Still retching an awful lot though! I'm sure the retching didn't stop until about 18 weeks with my DD so I've still got 9 weeks to go...

The people who have heart palpitations, I think it's quite common. I had them in the second trimester last time and had a heart trace thing done but it came back normal. I suspect they were mostly due to a bit of dehydration.

DBS94 · 09/09/2022 16:13

Thanks for all your recommendations on foods for helping with constipation!! Just done a big Morrisons online shop with them all x

Dragonfly909 · 09/09/2022 16:32

@Longbin I hope the tiredness goes away in the second trimester as people often say! Last time I was so sick and hanging on to the advice that sickness goes at 12 weeks... Well, it did not 😫can't just go for a lie down this time either with a toddler 😬

Tropicana1 · 09/09/2022 16:46

Has anyone else had a text from the gp inviting them for their autumn covid booster? I'm assuming eligible due to pregnancy but I asked my midwife and she said last they had been told was pregnant women weren't on the booster list unless they've changed it again

Longbin · 09/09/2022 16:54

@Dragonfly909 I was sick right until the end! I wasn't tired in the third trimester at all last time and didn't really get it when people said how awful it was at the end, that's def going to be me this time

PuddingBear · 09/09/2022 17:03

@Tropicana1 Pregnant women are on the booster list and they are advising us to get it.

I have had both vaccines and the booster, but I am unsure about having a booster while pregnant. That doesn’t sit quite right with me. What does everyone else think?

Tropicana1 · 09/09/2022 17:06

@PuddingBear ah they must have changed it then from what my midwife was last told.

from what I've read catching covid in the 3rd trimester can cause significant issues like premature labour / low birth weight and stillbirth so I'm quite keen for the booster as long as having it now will still protect me then when me and baby will be most at risk

ancienthouse · 09/09/2022 17:16

@PuddingBear I think I'll get it, I'll also be getting the flu jab. I had covid while not pregnant and it was awful so anything to avoid that now when I can't take anything stronger than paracetamol! Covid can also be more dangerous in the third trimester and cause complications.

PuddingBear · 09/09/2022 17:22

@Tropicana1 Fair 😊 I’m still not convinced, particularly as babies with covid have all got better, and there’s no evidence it causes miscarriage or growth.

So I’m still uncertain 😐

@ancienthouse Yeah, I’m definitely getting the flu jab and the whooping cough one again too!

I had covid earlier this year and it didn’t really affect me at all thankfully.

I don’t know. It’s a hard call to make one way or the other, you don’t really know if you’re doing the right thing either way I guess.

mummatara · 09/09/2022 17:24

I had covid in 2021 in my last trimester with DS before any jabs or boosters. It was 2.5 weeks of hell 😂 he was a healthy baby and 7.5lbs though like I said the other day I did get OC right after feeling better and I'm still convinced covid had something to do with it. Interestingly just as a side fact I've been pregnant 3 times and have had covid in all 3 of my pregnancies 🙄

Tropicana1 · 09/09/2022 17:33

@PuddingBear ah ok - I was just going off the nhs advice which is that although as you said miscarriage isn't a risk and babies get better there is an increased risk of stillbirth and premature delivery / low birth so just assumed there is some research to back it up!

Skylark1990 · 09/09/2022 17:34

Argh well I feel grim this afternoon so maybe the other supplements did help! Who knows.

@PuddingBear I'm not sure I'd want the booster either, I've had two vaccines plus a booster and also had the covid infection twice. I always get bad side effects from the jabs, and I really don't want another. But I'm not sure yet, I might have it.... I am hoping I have a bit of immunity over winter from having had it recently. I think I will get the flu jab.

Wouldloveanother · 09/09/2022 17:35

I take the approach of accepting all medical advice given to me. So much of having babies is an unknown quantity, I know I would blame myself if I made the wrong decision, so would rather hand it over to professionals. I’m not thrilled about the prospect of another jab though.

mummatara · 09/09/2022 17:37

@Skylark1990 I got horrible side effects from all the jabs and when I've had it i was so ill I'm really reluctant to get the booster just because I don't want to feel crappy. Me and covid don't blend very well 🙄 I mean by now I really should be immune 2 jabs one booster and had it three times 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wouldloveanother · 09/09/2022 17:38

A very rough day today - slept most of it, have just dragged myself out of bed to make DD’s dinner. 10 weeks on Monday, so hopefully the end of the sickness is in sight 😞 I just want to get back to my normal mum duties, although DH is doing a fair job of holding everything down, it’s not exactly to my liking and I’m a bit of a control freak 😂

PuddingBear · 09/09/2022 17:47

@Tropicana1 Yeah, I’d read about the risk in the third trimester of stillbirth or prem birth/low birth weight but I don’t think that’s strong enough to sway me.

@Skylark1990 Yeah it’s a tough one. I don’t mind having jabs, and I’m all for vaccines in general, but this being a new and relatively rushed one and it not just being me but my baby too… I don’t know.
