Oh yeah! Fruit really helped me too! White flesh nectarines and easy peelers we’re the things I wanted to eat most

Skylark1990 · 05/09/2022 18:34

@STom2 @Lmcc88 thanks yes fruit is definitely usually a winner 🍑 🍓 🍌. Had the sickness till I was 16 weeks with DD, although think it did get a bit better from 14. I feel like it might be worse this time tho probably due to the lack of sleep as you say @madeinthe80z and @STom2 !

haha DD has just climbed on my lap and saying strawberry and banana at the emojis

Skylark1990 · 05/09/2022 18:36

I feel like basically it's worse because it's for more if the day - basically all day and evening that I'm awake - but then the spewing hasn't been quite as bad (yet), I remember with DD I'd feel a bit icky during the day but come 5 or 6 pm I'd be spewing and feeling so so bad and couldn't keep anything down. So it's similar but a bit different this time. Have spewed twice today but not emptied my stomach... Ergh anyway not sure this is very interesting for anyone but nice to offload 😅🤢

STom2 · 05/09/2022 19:30

Don't worry @Skylark1990. There's plenty of us that 100% know how you're feeling right now. I was so miserable for whole first trimester. And a part of your brain is saying "but you should he happy you're pregnant" while the other part is saying "we're absolutely never doing this again" 😉. My MW did say that each pregnancy can be so different when I mentioned how much sicker I was this time. But I 100% think the tiredness is a big contributing factor when you've got other small children to look after. We had just hit first lockdown when I was pregnant with DS and my DH joked I'd wore a groove into the couch from being parked on the same spot for weeks on end during first trimester! Of course that's not an option this time around!

MooBugz · 05/09/2022 20:17

@Skylark1990 that's a shame and horrible feeling nauseous all day. That was me for the best part of the pregnancy so far up until
About a week ago I've felt like the nausea has taken a back seat. I found 7up helped. But not always. It was constant and hard to enjoy eating anything either. Hopefully you find something to help ease it 🤢

@gamergirl84 I've thought about birth plan! Insofar as this one will be evicted via the sunroof again! My DS had to be delivered via elective c section due to being oblique breach and stubbornly refusing to move despite best efforts! But as that went quite well and recovery after was fine I'm inclined to lean toward doing a c section again.

Have you thought about birth plan?

Skylark1990 · 07/09/2022 09:39

Thank you all for the words of support. 💓💓💓 It's nice being able to chat to you about it esp as you're a bit further along so gives me hope it'll pass. Nausea and vomming is so so hard isn't it. I definitely want this baby to be our last at this point 😅😅

@Gamergirl84 I have thought about it even tho I'm so early on, but I'm a bit of a birth nerd (am actually a trained doula myself) so thought about it before we'd even started trying for no 2 haha. I aimed for a home birth with DD, and in the end transferred to hospital due to various (non emergency) reasons. I had her vaginally but it was an instrumental delivery in the end. My labour was unusually long they think due to her position, and I needed an epidural so I could rest after about 3 days of contractions 😅 I'd really like to have a home birth this time and do it without an epidural, and I'll get a birth pool again (this was insanely helpful last time, with managing the intensity of it all, before I got too exhausted). I also found gas and air and the tens machine and hypnobirthing v helpful so I'll do all that again. I'm weirdly looking forward to it although have also been reliving the more stressful parts of DDs birth, so I think there wil probably be a bit of fear that comes up too over the next few months that I'll need to work through.

Skylark1990 · 07/09/2022 09:40

@STom2 that's good your elective went well and you had a good recovery!

MooBugz · 07/09/2022 13:44

Hi all hope your doing good!

I'm getting in of my back pain starting this week which is annoying as I wasn't expecting it already and just want to lie down all day!

Birth plan still to decide, I had two natural and a C-section. My second natural ended with a 3rd degree tear so we opted for section 3rd time round but ended up birthing a small perfect baby of 6lbs5! So now have to decide of pros and cons of what to do. Tempted to try natural again as I really struggled with the recovery of not being able to do anything for ages after section but then the thought of my scar tearing is scary too (2 out of 200 chance) and 95% chance I won't tear down there. Fun times 🤣 they also said I won't be able to get epidural help during labour if I go natural something to do with the hormones and scar tissue 🤷🏽‍♀️ but it's fine both my naturals were without pain relief anyway.

I've got an extra scan and consultant to see at 30 weeks so will decide then I hope!

Love to all ❤️

Gosh @MooBugz I keep forgetting this is going to be your fourth. You're some woman!! Honestly I'm already dreading trying to juggle one toddler and a newborn. And I plan to stop at 2. Maybe it's my age as I'll be 38 this year. I don't have the energy 😴.

Appreciate recovering from a section this time around is going to be very different. First time it was easy to sit on the couch all day with a newborn. Whereas I can't do that with a toddler. That's the only hesitation I have about doing a section again. But equally worried about recovery with tearing. Genuinely though, my biggest concern (and one I mentioned to the MW), is that I'll panic during labour and it would have a knock on on the baby. Not worried about the pain side of things. More that baby is delivered safely. Overthinking it due to not having natural labour first time. And I was all prepped for a water birth and did all the hypnobirthing courses. Just feel different this time.

STom2 · 07/09/2022 14:43

@MooBugz Also I am getting back pain as well if I stand for too long (ie cooking dinner). Currently sat on the couch catching my breath as I've gone up and down the stairs about 20 times bringing out recycling and carrying in groceries 😅

Skylark1990 · 07/09/2022 17:12

@MooBugz I also had a third degree tear last time but I think it's because DD was rushed out in the end, so no time for the flesh to stretch more slowly, and I also had an epidural so was unable to be mobile or upright when she came out. I had done all the hypnobirthing etc and really wanted to be able to move and did for most of my labour but needed that epidural to rest right at the end. Then her heart rate went up so they ended up whipping her out more quickly with the ventouse / forceps. Also I had an episiotomy which can actually make it more likely you'll tear badly as the skin is already weakened. Anyway, there are some things you can do like hands on birth (warm compress and oil massage on perenium while pushing baby out) and also breathing baby out / slow pushing to help the passage stretch more slowly so I want to try that this time.

MooBugz · 07/09/2022 17:21

@Skylark1990 I had episiotomy with my first, their degree tear with my second and section with third so my body tells a lot of stories!

It's never easy decision but I'm happy to be mentally prepared once I've made a decision rather than going to and fro at least I would know what to prepare for.

@STom2 haha they all say that when I get pregnant but it was only meant to be 3 max initially lol and tbh the kids are really good so we decided mine last one and I always said by 35 I'd want to be finished so I could be done with the pregnant life lol and I'll be 35 on Saturday 😬

I wish I could say I'm not worried about the pain side of things but lord help me the contractions kill me softly. My first was lying back to back so that was really painful even at the early dilation stages. But whatever will be is fine I'll take it for a healthy baby!

Gamergirl84 · 07/09/2022 17:25

@STom2 I'm in exactly the same position- DS was emergency section and I was consultant led the whole way through... I would have loved a homebirth but that was out of the question from very early in. This one will be elective due to some of thr same reasons but I do worry about thr recovery due to toddler knocking around 😬

@MooBugz ugh tearing sounds thr worst... a long labour is something I'm terrified of (things going wrong and ending up with an ecs again)

@Skylark1990 wow, a doula! What an incredible job!
I had researched birth EXTENSIVELY before DS and was all for crouching cavewoman stylee. But I think I have to face facts that with my age and history and medical requirements it's not going to happen for me.

MooBugz · 07/09/2022 17:29

Out of pure curiosity how old is everyone here? And do you plan on having more kids? Don't need to answer if you don't want to ❤️

I actually read another thread on MN recently where someone asked for opinion on c section. There seemed to be a lot of people responding who had had both natural births and caesarean births and they all seemed to suggest they'd recovered better from the caesareans (due to tearing etc with natural births). So that was also swaying my mind a little as there's obviously a conception that caesarean takes much longer to heal. But I do think that's assuming you will heal much quicker if you've had an unassisted labour without tearing. And I don't fancy my chances haha!!

With DS I obviously could sit around much more, but I as also stubborn so I was pretty mobile within a couple days (vivid memory of cleaning my living room before first MW call like a lunatic...). I think this time around we won't be in lockdowns etc so the option will be there to get some family to help out a little with DS if needed. Last time we didn't see anyone before DS was 5 months old...

OceanbreezeSun · 08/09/2022 06:46

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading everyone’s updates regularly & hope you and babies are doing ok.

@Skylark1990 I hope the nausea and sickness eases off eventually for you but like you said, it seems to last longer the next time round 🥴I don’t have any remedies to offer I’m afraid. Toast with butter was my go to.
My mum swore by sugared ginger and bought me a massive bag, but they made me feel more nauseous😫

I’m 19 + 4 days and feel pretty good most days now. Still have that horrible taste in my mouth most days and gagging/retching after brushing my teeth but can’t complain.

Also, just been reading all your birth experiences, I had an episiotomy too after a forceps delivery. My waters fully broke on the Monday, but contractions stopped so I was booked for an induction the next evening. Very long labour but I managed most of it without pain relief - then it all got too much and I asked for an epidural, finally gave birth the following evening but rushed into theatre for forceps as dd was showing signs of distress. They said if that didn’t work , I would need an EC, which scared me, fortunately all was ok with dd and I recovered quickly, back on my feet the next day and very minimal pain from the stitches.

I’m hoping to have another VB as overall it was a positive experience for me but would rather not have an induction again. The thought of a caesarean scares me but I’m not thinking about my birth plan too much just yet.

@MooBugz I’m 36, will be 37 when I give birth to this wriggly monkey.
We are not planning on having anymore after this, partly because of age, but mainly because we always said we wanted two children❤️
I’m from a large family myself, my mum gave birth to the last one of us at 43!

OceanbreezeSun · 08/09/2022 06:48

Oh crap, I’m sorry for the essay ladies🫢
I don’t message for ages then this happens…

LittleLottle · 08/09/2022 06:51

Sorry dipped out of the thread again as pre scan nerves got the better of me!

Everything went well and I'm almost 13 weeks, I cant believe there is a wiggly little baby in there! So happy. Can't wait to see them again in a few weeks at a private scan.

Re birth plans my first was a section for a few reasons (breech was the main one) so I'll be having a planned section again this time. Honestly I like the planned-ness of it, as much as I'd love to have a positive labour I know that's not a guarantee and that's a stress for me. Obviously nothing is a guarantee with a section either but I kinda know what to expect now.

Lmcc88 · 08/09/2022 08:03

Hey guys! Hope you’re all ok! Told my work yesterday which I was really nervous to do for some reason but everyone was so lovely!

@MooBugz I am 33 will be 34 when baby arrives. I would love to have two as my husband is an only child and said he was lonely growing up but we’ll see how we go.

I haven’t thought of birth plans at all really. I’d love a natural birth with no pain relief but I don’t know if I’m being naive because this is my first. Will have to do my research!

Skylark1990 · 08/09/2022 09:02

So nice reading everyone's birth stories / hopes for their upcoming birth! @Lmcc88 you can absolutely have a drug free natural birth, so many women do and it can be incredibly empowering. I very much recommend the positive birth book by Milli hill and the positive birth company hypnobirthing course, it's online and v affordable. Ofc things don't always go to plan but it's a good idea to research and know what you'd ideally want, as statistically we are more likely to have a positive birth experience if we have a plan or preferences and we understand the process ☺️

@Gamergirl84 I'm not actually working as a doula yet but I've done the course plus lots of extra reading and helped a few friends informally ☺️ such a cool job I agree, hoping to do it more once I'm past the "baby years" - hard to be on call for a birth while breastfeeding or pregnant oneself etc!

@MooBugz I turned 34 in August. So will be 34 when this baby arrives too 🤞🤞

@OceanbreezeSun lovely to hear from you! Yes it's so grim feeling so sick, I'm absolutely useless at work and dreading my next review, but I'll be 10 weeks next week so time does seem to finally be SLIGHTLY speeding up?! Probably won't now I've said that.... Your birth sounds similar to mine, my waters broke early too but I said no to induction (had done a fair bit of research and the risk was v low for infection up to 5 days after waters breaking) and carried on with my home birth plan. In the end as I had to transfer for pain relief as it had been a few days and I was exhausted they gave me the drip as well as an epidural just to help speed things along. I was fully dilated a few hours later but the drip can also cause distress in babies so could be why DDS heart rate went up and she was rushed out in the end. Impossible to know for sure! I'm really hoping for a smoother labour this time. And a shorter one!! I think for our second baby it's uuuuuusually more straight forward 😬😬🤞that's not to say first baby's can't also be straight forward! But it's something to hang on to if the first birth didn't go the way we had hoped.

RedElleJ · 08/09/2022 12:56

Hi Ladies,

Quick update from me - 16 week midwife appointment went well, got to hear little squishes heartbeat ☺️ Feel so much more at ease now and I think, I think I felt baby love when I got home…maybe all the Doppler prodding woke them up. Or maybe, it was just wishful thinking.

Haven’t even thought about birth plans. This is my first but I am also very medically anxious so if I can have as little intervention as possible that would be better for my anxiety. However, what will be will be I suppose.

Hope everyone is having a good week x

RedElleJ · 08/09/2022 13:20

*move not love. Although that’s cute too 😂 x

MooBugz · 08/09/2022 14:43

@OceanbreezeSun nice to hear from you! Almost at the halfway line too aaah so exciting and your going to give us all hope lol I'm a few weeks behind I'll be 20 weeks at the end of the month. Longs essays are always welcome btw ☺️

@Lmcc88 best advice I would say is be prepped for everything and just go with the flow! First time round I read up and prepared mentally for most things sceptics C-section as it gave me the creeps but as you know ended up needing it 3rd time round it wasn't too bad. You can whatever you like just concentrate on the breathing that'll be the hardest bit remembering to breathe deep lol

@Skylark1990 hopefully your sickness eases soon, try even lemon sherbet sweets or murray mints for a change in taste.

@RedElleJ rhats lovely yay congrats and hope that's really helped after the horrid start! And I like baby love too lol xx

@MooBugz I'm 38, will still be 38 in February. We started ttc at 29 when I got married- DS came along via ifv when I was 36. Its been a long road.

I would have loved to have more but I don't think we can in all good consciousness afford another baba and give all three the life we'd like.
So unless we win the lottery its two for us 😋
