I probably won't bother with the hospital bag until about 34 weeks. This is when I did it last time. Although I've learned I packed far too much then as I ended up having an elective c section and plan is the same again.

I seem to have another stomach bug working it's way through my system. Can't catch a break atm!!!

Skylark1990 · 22/11/2022 11:43

That's so interesting @drV I didn't hear about how progesterone could affect it or hydration. I was on progesterone till 16 weeks but not anymore, but could it have had an affect that is still hanging around? What about if it's just one kidney that is dilated?
Will definitely speak to the consultant and ask all the questions at the scan next week x

drV · 22/11/2022 14:15

@Skylark1990 it may be the reason, but I am not sure.. I am a doctor, but my masters is in infertility.. a fetal medicine specialist would be the best person to answer that question. Do have a discussion with them during your scan!

A couple of studies does state it,

thefetus.net/content/pyelectasis-1

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1442981/

Hagster · 22/11/2022 14:53

Sorry to hear that @Skylark1990, can absolutely understand your worry. I don't know anyone who's had the same but our friends did have a similar situation but with heart valves and further investigation cleared it up as nothing serious. They're obviously just so cautious and will always err on the side of exploring more and not taking any chances. Can of course understand how it'll be worrying when you've been through loss before!

@STom2 when will you catch a break?! Sorry you're unwell again, hope you manage to get some rest, although I know first hand how toddlers make that impossible.

I'm really struggling with fatigue. I am barely able to concentrate on work, feel like I could sleep at my desk and I am falling asleep really early every night (struggling to make it to 8 sometimes). I'm going to speak to the midwife about blood tests. I'm wondering about low iron or maybe even GD. I have had pregnancy tiredness before but this is on another level! Absolutely shattered all the time. Luckily baby is still kicking so I'm tentatively hopeful that she's ok, but need to sort out whatever is causing this as I'm shattered and don't know how I can deal with work like this.

Hagster · 22/11/2022 14:54

Also all this talk of hospital bags is making me wonder if I need to sort one soon! Last time I didn't until I had an induction date and packed like I was going away for two weeks - going to try to be more streamlined this time.

MooBugz · 22/11/2022 18:13

@Skylark1990 sorry to hear your having a time of it and another worry hanging around but I hope the appointment next week is able to put you at ease. Glad everything is looking healthy and as expected though 💪

@STom2 that's a shame your really not getting a chance are you! Hope you feel better soon, doesn't help that winter's here now and they'll be all sorts around

@Hagster I'll be looking at getting hospital bag list and packing maybe around Christmas new year time but looking forward to it. With the fatigue you speak of, not to worry you but defo worth double checking bloods and iron count.

My midwife called me today after my bloods on Monday and said they are worryingly low and that my iron is still at 5 (should be 30) and that my haemoglobin is under 100 which isn't good too. I've got iron tablets from today and I'll be eating green veg and cereals to try help it but was told it can be upto 6 weeks to get to normal range even with all that so they are considering an iron transfusion and have referred me to the day unit so I'm nervous about that but know it's for the best if I need it. I'm usually iron low anyway but never this bad but midwife stressed it causes tiredness, dizziness, headache and breathlessness. All of which I've been feeling but put it down to generic pregnancy symptoms and age. She did say it also means if I were to get a bleed i have no reserves.

Skylark1990 · 22/11/2022 18:15

Thanks @drV that's super helpful. I managed to open the first link (am on train so patchy reception). Is it saying that if only one kidney is dilated then there is a higher chance of issues post birth?
A bit worried about the link with downs syndrome too 😫

Skylark1990 · 22/11/2022 18:16

@Hagster @MooBugz thank you for your kind words x

Skylark1990 · 22/11/2022 18:18

@MooBugz re iron, I get low iron too and did with DD. I found spatone and floridix really helped, much more easily absorbable than the tablets. Take tablets or other iron rich foods or supplements with vitamin c to help absorption. Weirdly dried apricots are quite high in iron!

Do you eat meat? As ofc red meat can help. Also spirulina powder is excellent, can mix into orange or apple juice.

MooBugz · 22/11/2022 19:03

@Skylark1990 thanks for the tips, one of my friends also mentioned about the absorption of taking tablets with orange juice so will be doing that.

I don't eat much meat and red meat definitely not so that's part the issue but I do love my veg I think I've just been neglecting myself that's all! Will hopefully get back on track now that I know 💪

Re hospital bag-

I hardly used anything I brought for ds so this time I'll be taking just the essentials!

Baby sleepsuits and vests
A few nappies and waterwipes
Blanket and hat
Emergency cartons of milk )ic mine doesn't come through)

Two nighties
Slippers
Comfy going home outfit
Few pairs of big pants and a nursing bra
Charger!
Water bottle
Adult nappies and reusable bamboo pads

A picture of DH and DS for the nightstand 🙂

In other news I feel like a whale. My stomach is so stretched and uncomfortable I can't believe there's still 12 weeks to go. I have really painful restless leg syndrome and SPD making it difficult to get up and about. Looking after the toddler rn I'm in survival mode only. Feel like a bad mum most of the time because I can't play or run around with him.

Anyone else having an ELCS? I'm thinking of asking for 38 weeks but not sure my trust support earlier than 39.
I get measured next week and I just know its going to be off the chart big!

drV · 22/11/2022 20:14

@Skylark1990 you said everything else looks normal and as it is supposed to be.. fetal kidney measurement is an isolated finding and hence not much to be worried about.. I know it's going to be a worrisome time till they talk to you but please try to relax.. I know it's easier said than done but your stress will only harm the baby..

Infact my lil one has an isolated echogenic bowel, that's why I am under fetal medicine specialist care.. so far so good, just praying everything will be alright🙏🏻

@STom2 oh not another stomach bug, so sorry you are feeling so unwell.. hope you get better soon🤞🏻

@MooBugz so sorry to read about your terrible tiredness🥺 Iron transfusion sounds scary! Hope you will able to manage on iron tablets and diet changes alone! Take care!

Skylark1990 · 23/11/2022 08:51

@drV I'm sorry to hear you are also being monitored, it's stressful isn't it. But glad everything is looking ok so far ☺️ thank you, you're right, I'll try not to worry and hopefully at the appointment it helps x

STom2 · 23/11/2022 12:02

@Skylark1990 Appreciate how worrying this must be for you. It's in our DNA now to overthink every little thing isn't it? I guess we have to be thankful that technology has progressed enough that they can pick up on things like this as early as 20 weeks. Hopefully it resolves itself as others suggested, and I agree try to steer clear of Google.

STom2 · 23/11/2022 12:09

Not sure if this is a new bug or still norovirus working it's way out of my system but it was odd as I had a few days where I was okay again and eating. Not vomiting this time which is good. Just very very dodgy tummy (leaving house is a risk!!), and very very tired. But I expect that's a knock on from not eating properly in 2 weeks. I'm another one probably low on the iron front atm. I've actually been sleeping 12 hours a night the last few nights!!

My DS (just turned 2), seems to be dropping his nap. So is then sleeping solid through night. Not sure if it's a phase and to keep trying. But have had 4 consecutive days of nap refusal. Managed to get hik down yesterday and he woke 30 mins later fresh as a daisy....this has gone from a very reliable 2 hour midday nap every day without fail. So yeah, reckon this isn't helping the tiredness levels so I'm with you @gamergirl84 on the guilt atm. Between not being able to leave house last couple days and the exhaustion my parenting is sub par. Have had to get DH to come home early from work to take over to let me go lie down...

drV · 25/11/2022 11:50

Hi all.. had an antenatal clinic with consultant yesterday.. everything went fine except the fact I tested 3+ for urine sugar 🥺 I have been booked for another GTT, but it's only on December 5th.. feeling so horrible that my baby is struggling 😟 trying frantically to find some diet charts for GD.. any advice ?!

madeinthe80z · 26/11/2022 04:46

Ah, sorry @drV, that must be a bit of a worry. Did they not give you any advice on the day?! That's a bit rubbish. I assume they aren't classing it as too high risk with your glucose test only being booked in 2 weeks. If you're concerned, you could ask your GP to do your blood sugars? I had mine done by the nurse a few months ago when they kept finding ketones in my pee (that was more due to not eating coz of MS though!)

drV · 26/11/2022 08:24

@madeinthe80z ya, it's quite inept for them to send me back without any clear instructions and with the test being 10 days away.. I did ask but they just brushed it off saying oh this happens all the time, don't get worked up! For them, it might happen all the time.. but for me, this pregnancy has already been so difficult and the limbo is just driving me mad 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have had blood tests with the gp yesterday but the results didn't come within 5pm.. so it's again a wait till Monday atleast..

Sometimes I really feel when is it going to be February 😂 but it's a loooooong way to go!

doingitalllagain · 26/11/2022 18:46

I've been having cramps for a few days and lost my plug last night. I went to get checked out and had a positive fibronectin pre term labour test so chance baby could be coming very early, I'm not even quite 29 weeks yet. I've been transferred two hours from home but I'm in a hospital with a NICU now so we're in the best place I'm just praying he hangs in there. I could just cry I'm so scared of losing another baby and it's just so early Sad

MooBugz · 26/11/2022 19:45

Oh @doingitalllagain that sounds very scary I'm sorry I can't even imagine what you just be going through and to manage to have rational thoughts and post them too shows just how strong a mama you are.

Like you say, your in the best place and there's nothing else you can do what an awful waiting game. Have they said what to expect or what they think is going on? I hope your able to get answers and reassurance that all will be ok. Miracles happen everyday we just don't hear about it as often as the bad things. Sending you lots of positive vibes ♥️

doingitalllagain · 26/11/2022 20:34

My cervix is still closed and I'm not in active labour so just got to hope it doesn't start. Just such a worry this early on I want him to hang on atleast another 7 weeks really Sad I've had steroids started to try and mature his lungs incase he does make an early arrival. Waiting to see the NICU team to talk about what will happen if I do go into labour. Cramps have ramped up slightly but still manageable. I've been wishing this pregnancy away but not like this Sad

STom2 · 26/11/2022 21:02

Oh @doingitalllagain. Sending you a massive handhold. If things do progress then you're in the best possible place. And good they've started the steroids as they are putting measures in place should this LO make an early arrival. They are obviously determined to meet their Mummy. I know it feels incredibly early but you're well passed the 24 week mark. xxx

RedElleJ · 27/11/2022 05:48

Sending you the most amount of love possible @doingitalllagain ❤️

I really do hope little one can cook a little bit more before they decide it is time to meet the family! But, like you said, you are in the best possible place and have had the right treatment to prep little one too. Stats for 29 weeks looks positive too. I’ll be keeping you and your little one in my thoughts today.

Please don’t guilt yourself for wishing the pregnancy away either - we all find our ways to cope/manage/get by so we can stay strong.

lots of love x

drV · 27/11/2022 08:19

@doingitalllagain oh dear, that's very stressful.. good that you are in a hospital with NICU and you are started on steroids.. hope the baby stays in there for a while more.. sending you all positive vibes and hugs.. ❤️

Gamergirl84 · 27/11/2022 12:18

@doingitalllagain you're in the right place and everyone around you is ready... sending staying put vibes ✨️
