Hi everyone, I know this is might be a bit early to start a thread but after more than 2 1/2 years of trying the overwhelming excitement is real!

Me and my husband lost out first at 10 weeks back in December 2020 and to be honest had kind of given up. I only peed on a stick at 16DPO because a banana repulsed me to the point of spitting it out! Trying not to be too excited or paranoid, but we'll see how that goes. 🤣

I've ordered the Pregnancy after Loss book by Zoe Coates Clark in an attempt to keep my sanity, but the going to the loo fear of seeing blood is real. And I've booked an apt to talk to my GP on Thursday at 5+3 to talk about whether or not progesterone would be appropriate.

Thankfully my husband is level headed and reminds me not to get too ahead of myself yet, but it would be great to meet others in the same boat for a hand hold.

@MRSDoos I just counted up for you (couldn't even remember 😂) and I've had 7 scans and I'm only 12+4!

1 x EPU at 6 weeks
1 x private (booked before EPU referral)
3 with my recurrent miscarriage clinic (compulsory with my treatment)
2 with the NIPT testing (admittedly the second one was just because we had to do repeat bloods!).

But honestly just do whatever works for you. For some it works better to wait. I do better with scans every couple of weeks. There's no one answer in terms of coping xxx

Janefx40 · 09/11/2022 17:55

@Myotherusernameisaferrari good luck! Let's hope it's good news for us all x

MRSDoos · 09/11/2022 17:57

Thank you both!
I did end up having my scan tonight and baby is doing well (due 9th May) I’m going to have another in about 3 weeks for gender and then my 20 week scan which is in December!

Janefx40 · 09/11/2022 17:59

@MRSDoos oh great!! That's lovely news. So pleased if went well. Xxx

Blue2020 · 10/11/2022 03:25

@MRSDoos thats great news about your scan. Glad it went well.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 10/11/2022 10:58

@MRSDoos glad all was well!

Best of luck to those with scans today

My brain decided to reward my happiness after my scan yesterday with 2 awful nightmares about baby death, so that was lovely! Clearly the anxiety is still swimming around.

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 10/11/2022 16:22

All went fine! Due 18 May, 13 weeks and all healthy =)

MRSDoos · 10/11/2022 16:34

@Myotherusernameisaferrari That is great news ☺️

Has anyone announced to all their family and friends now? We did last week it feels a bit more real

Janefx40 · 10/11/2022 17:01

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl that doesn't sound much fun!!! Hope you're feeling better now.

@Myotherusernameisaferrari great news congrats.

Our scan was all good. My due date won't change as it's an IVF pregnancy so still 20th May but measuring a little bit ahead. My other consultant said that IVF babies are often bigger until 12 weeks and then it evens out.

Janefx40 · 10/11/2022 17:01

@MRSDoos my close family and friends know anyway because of the IVF process. I really don't want to share beyond that but will have to as I'm huge already (I was huge with my DD too!)

MO22 · 10/11/2022 18:35

Hi all. Scan went well! Can't believe it. They were very lovely when I said I had a history of loss and literally straightaway said there's a baby, there's a heartbeat" as they started scanning. I was surprised by how long and thorough the scan was but I suppose my only experience is EPU! Bloods took ages so I got myself into a huge state but all absolutely fine in the end. They've moved me forwards to 12 weeks today so due date is 25th may which is odd given I know when I ovulated but who cares! I'm so relieved and so happy, I'm really hoping this milestone will mean a bit of relief from the anxiety.

I hope everyone else's scans went well and thanks for all the support! ❤️

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 10/11/2022 19:16

So glad the three scans went well today! @Myotherusernameisaferrari - we have the same EDD still!

Janefx40 · 10/11/2022 23:07

@MO22 great news. Interesting that you say they were thorough. Mine was lovely but I didn't feel it was that thorough. She didn't even check the heart rate just that it was there. The report says she visualised various parts but there was no detailed look at them. What did they do for you?

Oh the bloods lady made me cry because she kept going on about me having to know the date of "egg harvesting" which is a phrase I hate anyway as it makes me sounds like a farm. I didn't know the date and she got cross and then her colleague had to take over and was lovely!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 11/11/2022 04:26

@Janefx40 mine was also v swift and surface level, took her only about 5 mins! She saw heartbeat but didn't measure it to my knowledge

MO22 · 11/11/2022 06:25

@Janefx40 we were in there for about 45 mins! They took loads of photos, checking every bit to make sure they had ticked it off and also baby was so wriggly it took them a while to check some structures. She also explained what she was doing at each point and confirmed the structure with another fellow who was logging it. Genuinely I was surprised by how long it took. My hospital has a huge pregnancy research facility and I did consent to some research trials but they were a separate part of the scan - someone just came in at the end and took a few photos of the placenta because they are researching placenta issues and preeclampsia, but that was like two mins. It was also a completely new facility for fetal medicine which was so posh, it felt like a private hospital. Worlds apart from my EPU experiences which have been broadly horrible!

I've never heard the phrase eggs harvesting! I'm so glad someone took over from her for you! It's such a sensitive time, particularly if it's post loss, so I'm glad you got someone nice in the end.

Blue2020 · 11/11/2022 07:18

@MO22 thats great news. Yes I know my ovulation too and they put me three days ahead for edd.

Interesting about it being a research hospital, it’s great that it means extra information for you. I suppose that data can go into a research study so they are being more thorough compared to routine dating scan. Mine wasn’t like that either, I was in there quite a while but mostly because it was hard getting the profile for the nt due to wriggling and kicking.

Blue2020 · 11/11/2022 07:21

@Myotherusernameisaferrari great news about the scan. Glad it went well.

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 11/11/2022 08:15

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl aww I'm quite pleased about that! It's a nice thing to share.

Mine took a long time (partly due to doing everything twice). One absolutely wouldn't keep still but they did do a top to toe and show me e.g. brain, heart, abdomen, limbs etc.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 11/11/2022 08:25

I feel a bit cheated @Myotherusernameisaferrari @MO22 ! Honestly she scanned super quickly between heart, brain, abdominal area, limbs. She said things like "two legs, two formed arms" and I genuinely could not see it she was moving that swiftly. Then she had a few minutes trying to get them to stop frogging for a top to tail and the NT measurement and that was it! I'm hoping it's cause she was super experienced rather than not really checking...

Do you guys plan to find out sex? I think we won't but still exciting to think about. My guess would be girl but I have no evidence for this at all.12 week scan image is quite crap and has no nub on it so no clue there either.

Janefx40 · 11/11/2022 09:41

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl I didn't even get that much! She literally showed us the baby, measured and had a look at different angles but didn't tell us anything out loud. Luckily we had a super detailed scan last week at our private clinic anyway.

@MO22 are you in Kent? The guy who did our our private scan was amazing and he heads up the care in Kent somewhere for the NHS.

ImHopeful2023 · 11/11/2022 09:49

Has anyone experienced stomach cramping at 10/11 weeks so worried saw heartbeat at eight weeks but worried about this cramping any advice ?

Janefx40 · 11/11/2022 10:59

@ImHopeful2023 yes I definitely had some cramps and twinges around then. I think things are starting to stretch. Hopefully all is ok in there. Cramps definitely don't mean something is wrong xxx

ImHopeful2023 · 11/11/2022 11:33

Thanks Janefx40 it's just as you can imagine so worrying just wishing my next scan came faster thank you so much for replying

Melusina123 · 11/11/2022 12:19

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl @Janefx40 @MO22 @Myotherusernameisaferrari it's interesting how much variation there is in the 12w scan - mine was pretty detailed, probably 20min or so? They listened to the heart and liver (!) and had a good look at all organs, limbs, etc.

We will be finding out the sex for our own curiosity, but not sharing with anyone because we want to let the baby be free of gender expectations (and attack of the pink/blue) for as long as possible.

Blue2020 · 11/11/2022 12:40

Mine was like that too @Janefx40 in terms of info anyway.

I just got the nt letter back- 1/7172 for downs and 1/100000 for edwards/patau. The letter didn’t say anything else about hcg or pappa or any other info like I’ve seen in some posts. Happy with the results though.

I was initially thinking it would be nice to have a surprise at birth, but my dh would like to know and I wasn’t strongly against it so we will find out at the 20-week scan if we can.
