@girlboss94 @EllieJayneB @Becca071996 @TheBeesKnee they will take blood and urine sample, will just ask a million Q's about you and a few about partner. If you bring partner they will also want to speak to you alone (checks for DV etc)

Becca071996 · 03/10/2022 14:26

Randomly I just got the call to book in for booking appointment, weird timing!

It's over a video call so I won't actually be attending in person which I wasn't expecting as I was expecting blood and urine tests

I'll have to attend alone as partner is working

RugbyGirl1 · 03/10/2022 15:08

My booking appointment is this week at what should be 8+6 via the telephone (old school!) with my 12 week scan booked for 12+3 where they do bloods etc. so I guess each area is different.

Got another scan tomorrow. Had one at 6+4 and was measuring a little behind but could see a yolk and flickering heart beat so hopefully little bean has caught up a bit two weeks later! Pretty nervous tbh, not let myself get too excited yet and not told anyone apart from my sister and that was only because I had to regarding some tickets for next year and potentially needing an extra one!

TheBeesKnee · 03/10/2022 21:27

So I found the booking appointment kind of overwhelming.

I didn't have the best first impression: there was no one at reception, the place looked kind of deserted and when I (and some people with a baby) were finally in the door, there was no one there. When I flagged down a midwife she kind of snapped at me that I was supposed to be at the end of the corridor. I understand that they are probably stressed and busy, but there were no signs etc, I wasn't just being thick.

My midwife was on annual leave so a senior midwife covered and did the session. We're using an app for notes. There was a lot of you do this, book that, we'll book this, but not until that, etc etc. It was a lot of information and I'm hoping that I'll be better able to process it tomorrow once I've had some sleep!

They have recommended a covid booster as well as Whooping cough and flu vaccine. I'm not sure how I feel about that as I only had my booster in July.

I'm amber risk, apparently, but will still be midwife led, not consultant.

I've previously had genetic counseling and they recommend an additional scan at 16 weeks, which was denied at this appointment 😕

I'm hoping following appointments go better because this did not bode well for me and I am almost contemplating a home birth, I just wanted to be out of there.

I am now in desperate need of a nap.

Charl881 · 03/10/2022 21:35

@TheBeesKnee sorry you didn’t feel reassured by it. I think post covid has a lot to blame for things like that. I had to wait outside of what looked like a deserted surgery and ended up ringing to check I was in the right place. Not sure why we can’t use waiting rooms anymore.

If you’re struggling to process it all maybe you could give your actual midwife a call when she’s back from leave and just ask her to clarify some bits?

FWIW with my DS I had a rubbish experience at booking in but she was a stand in midwife, when I met my actual one she was lovely and I’m so pleased I now have her a second time around. Hopefully your actual midwife turns out the same!

(oh and I’d get the covid booster, I’ve seen pregnant friends get covid and that does not look like something I’d want to go through. But it’s your decision to make and you can take your time)

Hi all just found this thread, hope you don't mind if I join?

I'm currently 8+4 with my first. Just had a private scan a few days ago which was amazing 😍

I don't have my booking appointment until 11 weeks, is that normal? I did query it because something they sent me said certain tests should be done before 10 weeks but I was told its fine. I have no idea?!

girlboss94 · 04/10/2022 12:07

@Phoebe93 I think if they don't get you in soon enough they sometimes do the booking appointment at the 12 week scan so I think 11 weeks is absolutely fine.

I've just had my first booking appointment it was really positive. I have to have a dating scan because my LMP is way off my own calculations and they've told me that there's certain bloods that have to have before week 14 so I'm waiting for that. I'm still convinced I've got my dates right though. But not too sad about my early scan.
I'm going to be consultant led because of heart issues and they're going to book me in for a heart scan which I'm so happy about! Had all the bloods today and they prescribed me some anti sickness meds and some aspirin which I need to take. But yeah really happy with how it went.
I brought my mum along and that was useful as she mentioned family medical stuff that I didn't even know about so it helped them get the full picture

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 05/10/2022 09:33

Woken up with very light brown discharge. Have phoned EPU and am waiting for a triage call.

I had a missed miscarriage this summer so am panicking a bit.

AstroAl · 05/10/2022 11:33

Just back from a scan at the EPU.
I've had two previous as my periods are all over the place.
This one dated me at 7 weeks and there was a tiny flickering heartbeat - which was apparently a good speed.

I cried so much that the receptionist thought it was bad news.

I feel massively overwhelmed. I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder so I'm really struggling.

I'll be booking in a private scan for around 9 weeks (I'll be on holiday in between) just to help me cope a little bit.

Essexgalhere · 05/10/2022 16:24

I’m 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow and have a scan booked in for reassurance.
At my 9 week scan in April it showed both twins no longer had heartbeats so I’m very nervous

girlboss94 · 05/10/2022 16:33

@AstroAl congrats that's fab news

@Essexgalhere my fingers are crossed for you 🤞🏼

I had my booking appointment earlier this week but they're bringing me in for an early scan because there's some date confusion. Waiting to find out when that is but I suspect it will be ASAP

EllieJayneB · 05/10/2022 16:42

I've got my first midwife appointment on Friday morning, this is my first pregnancy and not sure what to expect or what kind of questions I can ask at this stage. Could anyone give me some tips/insight please? 🥹

girlboss94 · 05/10/2022 16:49

@EllieJayneB drink lots of water they will want a urine sample, they'll also take some bloods. The rest is just admin. Know your family history as they will ask 10000s of questions

polarbearoverthere · 05/10/2022 17:05

Melusina123 · 03/10/2022 09:14

Man this constant nausea/fatigue combo is getting me down. 9+1 today, and been feeling dog tired since wk4 and nauseous since beginning of wk6. OH has a pregnancy app for partners which yesterday said, "The nausea and tiredness might be starting to get your partner down" (correct) "why not cheer her up with a date night?" (Yes, because leaving the house and eating food are my two favourite things at the moment. 😒)

Anyway, I know I shouldn't whinge because it's all for a good cause, and the symptoms are reassuring when something freaks me out like spotting. But the first tri really is very grim, isn't it?

@tiantian1005 if you want to, do let us know how the scan went! I know how nerve-wracking they can be.

@i83 @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl I'm refusing to let OH even talk about planning how we're going to tell family until we're out of first tri, let alone start thinking about buying things. The only thing I've done is start to mentally survey my wardrobe for outfits that will allow me to fly under the radar at work for as long as possible. The pregnant-post-MC pessimism is real...

I could have written the beginning of your post almost word for word. I've been feeling so sick since the beginning of last week and now actually vomiting this week - and it's really getting me down! I feel so miserable. I know it's a good thing but it is hard to continue life as normal as possible. I'm not someone who usually takes time off sick from work but I think I'm going to tell my manager tomorrow so that I can get some advice about how to manage how I feel with work responsibilities/expectations. I have two managers and I'm only going to tell the female one for now as I hope she will be more understanding and useful.

Anyway - I'm new here so hi! I came on to see if I could find some camaraderie in this weird time and I've found all you lovely people. I'm about 8 weeks I think and this is my first pregnancy, so this is all super new to me and I'm not adjusting brilliantly to slowing down and feeling ill. It took me weeks to get my head around this actually happening and still I find myself thinking 'is this real?!'

I have my first midwife appointment next Monday and the scan booked for first week of November. I never really understood why friends had early scans and couldn't 'just wait' but now I really feel the urge for the reassurance it could offer.

Anyway, it's lovely to meet you all and go through this together!

polarbearoverthere · 05/10/2022 17:14

TheBeesKnee · 03/10/2022 13:43

Mine is working so I will be going alone.

We're going together, partly so we can have a bit of a shared impression of the maternity facilities before making birth plans. I have no idea what to expect!

Snowflakes2 · 05/10/2022 18:23

I don't know if anyone can remember me from a couple of weeks back, I sadly miscarried.
Well today iv had my BFP! Similar symptoms to last time so quite anxious but we will see.

Baguette2021 · 05/10/2022 19:51

Hi! 👋

Baby due 24 May and all looks good from the 6w5d scan 😁

Is there a 'Due May 2023' thread?
Hannargh · 05/10/2022 21:04

Hi everyone! And hi @Baguette2021 - I'm also due 24th May (according to LMP but I know I ovulated later) so thought I'd hop on and say hello. I hope mine is looking as good as yours! I haven't booked in for an early scan so I'm having to patiently/anxiously wait for my 12 week scan and then it will all feel a lot more real.

I only had an early one because I had an IUI round - I'm a solo mama! 🥰

But already looking forward to my 12 week scan!

Yep, I definitely remember you 🙂 That’s fantastic news, keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🏻

2bm · 05/10/2022 22:33

@Snowflakes2 fantastic news! I have everything crossed you.

@Myotherusernameisaferrari hope you’re ok

Snowflakes2 · 05/10/2022 23:03

Thank you @raffika and @2bm ☺️

RugbyGirl1 · 06/10/2022 08:02

Welcome back @Snowflakes2 😊

Did EPU get back to you @Myotherusernameisaferrari?

Interesting to read about the varying booking appointments. Mine is today via the phone - I'm just imagining lots of questions! Had a repeat scan at 8+4 and little bean has not only caught up since 6+4 (where they were measuring days behind), they're now measuring a day ahead! Had a bit of a growth spurt 😂 was lovely to see a really strong heartbeat. Now to try and wait a few more week until the 12 week scan... Eep.

Anyone else at this stage with very few symptoms still? I'm tired and can nap in the afternoon but no sore boobs or sickness / nausea (apart from when I wake up and have my retainers in - they need to get out my mouth asap before I start heaving!)

Welcome @polarbearoverthere @Hannargh and @Baguette2021 👋

Welcome @polarbearoverthere @Hannargh and @Baguette2021 👋

I was just going to ask the same.... if anyone is feeling mostly ok?
I have some days where I feel sick. My boobs are very sore and I am very tired but otherwise wouldn't have a clue I was pregnant... I don't believe that anything is in there!

Anyone else in the same boat? X

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 06/10/2022 08:09

@RugbyGirl1 and @2bm thanks for asking! Was slightly in shock. Not only is everything fine but BOTH of them are doing well... have spent the last twelve hours walking round going "... what the hell"! So I'm now probably due in April due to being to deliver earlier.
