I've seen @i83 had a nipt test, has anyone else? Is it worth it? I am 35 and we would have to pay for it. I won't lie I was anxious with my previous baby 2 years ago but this one I've really wound myself up more about the blood test results as I know I'm older.

The added stress of the abnormality scan too, is it worth paying for? The NHS one here isn't as detailed.

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 22/10/2022 08:47

We had a scan yesterday. Both twins are absolutely fine, measuring bang on their days and within a day of each other. Such an enormous relief.

@TisforTucan we will be. The advice i was given is it's worth doing it the results affect your decision. If they don't, there's less importance other than the obvious giving yourself time to prepare.

Ah you're having twins, congratulations. Lovely news x

Yeah that makes sense, just thinking is it just me being over anxious. I really wound myself up about the abnormality scan with my 2 year old. Wondered whether we should wait for the nhs one first as I get results in 4 weeks x

i83 · 22/10/2022 12:48

So pleased to hear about your scan @Myotherusernameisaferrari !!!
Do you have a scan photo?

baddecisionsmakegreatcompany · 22/10/2022 14:39

Can I join you ladies.. I’m 10 weeks today, had an EPU scan at 6 weeks which was fine but feels like a while ago and symptoms v minor so waiting nervously for the next one! Hope everyone is doing ok 😊

RugbyGirl1 · 22/10/2022 16:19

@Melusina123 ah that makes sense, let's hope that's the case!

@Myotherusernameisaferrari glad to hear your scan went well 😊

@TisforTucan I've been wondering about NIPT too but may wait to see how the 12 week scan goes where they look for markers and go from there I guess.

@baddecisionsmakegreatcompany welcome! The time between scans can be a little agonising, especially with little symptoms - I know how you feel!

OptimusPrime31 · 22/10/2022 18:00

I'm so jealous of everyone whose had a scan. I'm 11 weeks (due may 8th) and my first one is this Thursday. My MIL keeps asking if im excited. I'm not excited at all. I'm extremely nervous and can't help shake the feeling that something will be wrong. I can't tell her this though 😑 I just nod and say yehh can't wait!

lmw88 · 22/10/2022 18:19

@OptimusPrime31 I’ve also got my first scan on Thursday. My partner and sister are the only ones that know so far….so I’m looking forward to getting it off my chest hopefully all is ok.

OptimusPrime31 · 22/10/2022 18:56

I'm sure it will be. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you

TisforTucan · 22/10/2022 23:05

@RugbyGirl1 Yeah that's what we'll do I think is wait for the blood test at 16 weeks and if I'm still not happy look into it. They did rhe measuring at the back of the neck during my scan too x

Bananabreakfast123 · 23/10/2022 01:00

So lovely to hear such nice updates about first scans. Don't have mine til the 31st when I'll be 13+3. Currently 12+1 and the tiredness is a killer. Barely make it

Bananabreakfast123 · 23/10/2022 01:02

Oops posted too soon. Barely make it past 9pm at night. Can't wait for this to pass and get some energy back. Really missing exercise as well. Hopefully not too long til I feel up to it again. Is anyone starting to come out the other side of tiredness and nausea?

lmw88 · 23/10/2022 07:54

@Bananabreakfast123 definitely my nausea started to ease at just over 10 weeks. Still comes in bursts but not constantly hanging over me as it was. I’m back to eating a little bit better too I was grazing all the time to try and avoid the nausea. Hope yours settles soon. Everyone is so different

Baguette2021 · 23/10/2022 09:31

With you all on the tiredness! Falling asleep on the sofa at 9pm but then awake at 5am?!

Make it make sense! 🥱😴

MRSE20 · 23/10/2022 14:07

Just wanted to know if drinking fizzy drinks is okay in pregnancy if any of you knew or still drink fizzy drinks? I’m almost 12 weeks and keep craving a coke zero every day. Probably have had a can a day the last week or so. Is this harmful? I’ll ask midwife at my scan Friday as well

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 23/10/2022 15:59

@MRSE20 totally fine as long as it doesn't take you over your recommendation for caffeine . I think they do a caffeine free?

Britabroad22 · 24/10/2022 12:13

Hi all, first pregnancy here (due end of may) and so glad to have found a forum to join. I don’t know many people who’ve got kids and haven’t told anyone other than my husband and one good friend. It’s been a bit strange and lonely! I’m reading lots to catch up on all the stuff I had no idea about (this wasn’t really a planned pregnancy although we’re really excited about it). Would love to know which books or podcasts you’d recommend? Anything positive to help with anxiety and fear of childbirth especially!

I’ve spent the last month mostly in bed with nausea, vomiting, terrible headaches and what seems to be quite extreme food aversions. I’m usually such an eater- love cooking and eating and used to spend all day thinking about it so it’s been weird! there’s just about nothing I actually want to eat but a few things I can just about tolerate. Does anyone have any good tips for food aversions? I can’t stand dry crackers - could do it for the first week and now I can eat strawberry yogurt (as long as it has no bits!) and smoothies which is the only way I can get nutrients into my body.
Thanks so much and congrats to everyone x

Melusina123 · 24/10/2022 13:33

12w scan today, which went well. I've been out forward to 4 May, so now partner is lobbying to nickname the foetus Baby Yoda/Grogu...

wonderfulworld33 · 24/10/2022 14:29

Has anyone made it through the exhaustion stage yet? I am 10.5 weeks and SO tired I can barely cope! The nausea has lifted mostly but can't shake the lethargic feeling. Really hope it isn't like this for 9 months!

I'm with you on this! Should be turning 12 weeks in a couple days and I'm exhausted but god forbid I have a full nights sleep... it's continuously broken sleep (1hr Kip and then awake tossing and turning)! 😢 My sickness is definitely slowing down, I still get the odd nauseas moment or day now and again but I've turned in to an emotional/tired wreck... snapping at people etc... is this normal?!?!

lmw88 · 24/10/2022 15:05

@Melusina123 good to hear scan went well I’ve got mine on thurs….a little nervous

@wonderfulworld33 @EllieJayneB I think my nausea is returning. I think it’s karma after me saying to my other half I actually don’t feel nauseous at all anymore 🙈 if my baby is anything like me they’re gunna be a sleep fighter. Trying not to give into the tiredness and convince myself I’m not even tired. The dog walks are torture!

@Britabroad22 im first timer here too and winging it so far. I find just eating through the nausea and grazing actually helps keep it at bay. If I leave it too long it creeps in again. Thankfully I’ve not actually been sick. Baby will get all it needs regardless of your diet being a little restrictive atm and I’ve been told things get better…..I hope. Pregnancy vitamins Are important. Otherwise try your best to eat what you can.

Welcome!!
I don't have any tips sadly, I am just muddling through and eating what I fancy - most of which isn't at all healthy. I want all the carbs and none of the veg!!
Congratulations x

raffika · 24/10/2022 20:32

@Britabroad22 another one muddling through the nausea, food aversions and general lack of appetite. When I saw the midwife she was telling me to eat what I could and the baby would be fine, so I’m relying on that.

I’ve had Covid which went into my sinuses (owwie) but feeling better today, just tired and a bit of a cough. I’ve had an extra 20 week scan booked to measure uterine blood flow, as apparently Covid can affect it.

Great to hear those who had scans have had positive experiences. Counting down to my scan on 1st November, when I’ll be 12+4 🙂

@TisforTucan are you outside of the UK? We don’t have screening blood tests here at 16 weeks

MRSE20 · 25/10/2022 08:41

12 week scan coming up Friday and I’m full of nerves, anyone else like this coming up to scans?
