I have very jealous of everyone who is feeling terrible :), I wish I could be bed ridden by now. Absolutely shitting myself for the scan tmw as terrified it didnt grow this past week...

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 30/09/2022 19:48

I'm currently 7+3 and the nausea is kicking my arse. It has been intermittent but has ramped up!

Crackers and peppermints are my friend generally.

Also, I've become very specific about water and can only drink it if it is ice cold with ice in. Not cool enough just from the fridge. Has to be freezing.

i83 · 30/09/2022 21:03

I’m really struggling with the nausea too.
It worries my because I just can’t face taking the pregnancy vitamins. Feel like a terrible Mum-to-be! 😳
The GP was telling me that there are various reasons for nausea/sickness in pregnancy and one of them is excess stomach acid.
I think that’s the case for me, as I’m not too bad if I’m lay still but as soon as I move (especially walking up the stairs etc.), I feel terrible, as the acid sloshes around in there!
Crackers and mints are also helping me.
I feel like I’m eating pretty much constantly during the day but I can’t worry about that on top of other things!

Anyone done any nice things, like choose names, buy babygrows or design the nursery etc. yet!?

raffika · 30/09/2022 21:23

I’m 8 weeks today and, after a few days of feeling good (just hungry), the nausea today has been terrible. I’m on leave and was supposed to be stripping wallpaper but I managed about 30mins and mostly loafed in front of the tv. I really need to drink some water before bed or I’m doing to have a raging headache in the morning from dehydration.

I had a private scan earlier in the week, and the measurements tied in with my dates and there was a heartbeat there. The sonographer was very bubbly and enthusiastic, but to be honest we were a bit overwhelmed. I hope that’s normal as I felt bad for her, being so congratulatory whilst we were a bit like rabbits in headlights!

@tiantian1005 fingers crossed for you for tomorrow, I’m sure all is well :)

Don’t worry about the vitamins. I had an allergic reaction to Pregnacare and the midwife advised me just to take folic acid and to keep my iron up (I’m a vegetarian) but otherwise not to worry unless anything crops up along the way. I doubt it’s the end of the world if you’re struggling with your vitamins, just try and get the folic acid down.

We’ve talked about which room will be a nursery but otherwise we’ve not made any plans or bought anything. It feels too much like tempting fate for me just now (but that’s just me, not passing judgement on anyone else). We’re got a big city trip in a few weeks time so will probably take the chance then try out prams and mooch at baby things, where there’s more choice than our home town.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 30/09/2022 22:07

@i83 they recommend you take them just before sleep if struggling with nausea!

Unfortunately given my past experience I won't be buying anything until T2 probably

Bananabreakfast123 · 30/09/2022 23:38

We had an early scan today and it was amazing. Baby measured ahead of where we expected and we could see it so clearly - its little head and two arms and legs waving around. It had a strong heartbeat and was wriggling and dancing away. The sonographer laughed that baby was showing off because it was so active. It was incredible, so pleased we went because it's another few weeks until the 12 week scan.

AstroAl · 02/10/2022 21:15

Has anyone experienced quite a low down lightening/stabbing sensation? Almost feels like it's my vagina/cervix.
I'm only 6/7 weeks so obviously concerned.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 02/10/2022 21:40

That's great @Bananabreakfast123 !

@AstroAl yeah 100% - javelin pains in cervix, vagina, bumhole, abdomen all v normal

Melusina123 · 03/10/2022 09:14

Man this constant nausea/fatigue combo is getting me down. 9+1 today, and been feeling dog tired since wk4 and nauseous since beginning of wk6. OH has a pregnancy app for partners which yesterday said, "The nausea and tiredness might be starting to get your partner down" (correct) "why not cheer her up with a date night?" (Yes, because leaving the house and eating food are my two favourite things at the moment. 😒)

Anyway, I know I shouldn't whinge because it's all for a good cause, and the symptoms are reassuring when something freaks me out like spotting. But the first tri really is very grim, isn't it?

@tiantian1005 if you want to, do let us know how the scan went! I know how nerve-wracking they can be.

@i83 @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl I'm refusing to let OH even talk about planning how we're going to tell family until we're out of first tri, let alone start thinking about buying things. The only thing I've done is start to mentally survey my wardrobe for outfits that will allow me to fly under the radar at work for as long as possible. The pregnant-post-MC pessimism is real...

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 03/10/2022 09:17

@Melusina123 have you told anyone yet? We have told a couple of close friends, will tell a couple more close friends and also family at 12 weeks if all okay, the rest can wait until 20 weeks

Melusina123 · 03/10/2022 10:01

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl My parents and OH's parents know, but not because we wanted to tell them per se - my parents were staying with us, and we were meant to go visit OH's parents, but then I had a bit of red blood at 6w. So we had to tell them to explain why instead of going to OH's parents' place we needed to go to Urgent Care. 😬

Which means that if this baby sticks, I will have told my parents about their first grandchild the immortal phrase, "I've got good news and bad news," and my OH said to his: "I'm going to tell you something that seems like good news, but probably isn't good news." (We were feeling very pessimistic.)

If that hadn't happened I don't think we'd even have told parents until 12 weeks or later (I might have slipped a quiet word to mum while she was here). Haven't told anyone else, will probably keep it quiet as long as possible. I understand the argument that it's good to tell people because you will need support if it goes wrong, but for me I just want to be able to deal with things in private and talk about it when I'm ready.

Janch13 · 03/10/2022 10:03

Just got notified of my booking in appt, will be 8+1.

Also told my mum the news last night, which was lovely.

Starting to feel v real now!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 03/10/2022 10:13

@Melusina123 we are all different in how we cope, aren't we?

Last time, I got confident after a perfect 10 week scan and told good friends and family. They were all lovely when things went wrong but the taking it back was the hardest thing. With many of them I'd honestly rather say "unfortunately we had another loss" rather than tell them good news then bad news a few weeks later.

This time I've just told my closest friends and even then in a "I really can't have you get too excited right now but I just want you to know". I really just needed them to know so I could talk about my crippling anxiety about it! It was my DH that said "maybe you should tell x so you have someone to talk to?" After a bout of anxious crying. One of them also guessed the second she saw my worried face (guess they know me well!). There's another 2 close friends who definitely know something is going on as I've been tired and anxious and avoiding sports I usually do (all of which are ok to do pregnant but I'm just too worried). They wouldn't ever ask as they know the history with MMC/infertility but I suspect when I tell them they will say "yeah I thought!"

BabyGally22 · 03/10/2022 10:34

Hi all. Had our early viability scan at 6+2 last Thursday in fertility clinic. The anxiety levels were very high after negative experience back in march.
we dont really know what to make of this one. Nurse said there is a gestational sac, yolk sac, ‘slightly sluggish’ heartbeat (no number given to us) and embryo but with the position of the embryo and the yolk sac she can’t get a proper view of the heartbeat so seemed really unsure. In the next breath she was saying Congratulations.
she booked us into EPU which instantly made me feel we were doomed again but the date didn’t suit so called us later to say one of the consultants in the clinic is happy to scan us exactly week later.
my head is absolutely fried….. is this just really airing on the side of caution or is this just the start of the end again…..
any words of wisdom I’d appreciate

Melusina123 · 03/10/2022 10:48

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl Yeah I think it's really personal who you want to tell when. I get why some people want to talk about it sooner (I WISH I could just explain to work why I have been so low energy the past month!) but for me it feels better to keep it quiet. I am contemplating trying to get a referral to antenatal mental health re: the anxiety so I can talk to someone about it. Is that something you've considered?

@BabyGally22 it's so difficult to know. A heartbeat at 6w is good news, and who knows what 'slightly sluggish' means? Mixed US findings at 6w I think is very common and not necessarily bad news. The good advice that I totally fail to follow is to just take each day as it comes. At least you're getting scanned again soon. Fingers crossed for a good outcome!

SunshineMile92 · 03/10/2022 11:36

Hi everyone hope you are all doing good. I haven't been very active on the thread as I'm focusing on making it to 12 weeks without getting by too excited in case anything goes wrong. Trying to stay positive, but I'm sure you can all relate to the niggling sense of worry at the back of your mind 🙈

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and I've had my 12 week scan date confirmed for 17th oct so only 2 weeks to go!

I started a new job about 4 weeks ago (internal transfer/promotion) but am seriously struggling with tiredness and nausea. Feeling quite guilty that I'm not able to give my new job my all and worried that my new manager / team might just think I'm a bit rubbish if I don't get my act together soon. Any tips on how people are staying focused/engaged at work while dealing with symptoms?

@BabyGally22 definitely echo the taking it day by day advice. First tri is really not fun and full of anxiety but I'm trying my hardest to stay positive and look forward to upcoming milestones. Hope your scan this week goes well 🤞🏽

girlboss94 · 03/10/2022 11:54

Got my booking appointment tomorrow, anything I should be looking out for? Having it a bit late at 8+6.

Also I don't feel overly bloated but I have a very small bump and can't do my jeans up so having to go shopping later for some clothes already. My family are scaring me by telling me I'm having twins or further along than I thought (which isn't possible because I tracked ovulation)

TheBeesKnee · 03/10/2022 13:18

My booking in appointment is this afternoon and I'm so nervous!

Not sure why, I think hospitals in general make me uncomfortable and knowing that it's likely to last a long time isn't helping 😬

I'm worried about what to wear, will they need access to my arms etc. Dumb things!

Has anyone had theirs yet and how was it?

I've got my first midwife appointment on Friday, this is my first pregnancy too and not sure what to wear or what needs to be discussed etc. so nervous 😂

Charl881 · 03/10/2022 13:27

@TheBeesKnee yes they usually take bloods so need access to your arms!

@EllieJayneB they just tend to go through yours and your partner’s health history and that of your direct family. Height, weight, blood pressure, urine sample, blood tests. Explain how it works in your area - number of appts, how to access notes etc. It’s a very adminny type appointment really!

Are you guys taking your partners to your booking appointment or going alone??

My husband is working. But I have a lot of medical issues and my mum had a horrible pregnancy with me so she's coming along as she has a better understand of medical history regarding that.

I'll either go alone for future appointments or with my husband - although I suspect he will attend all the scans

I'm going alone as my partners at work and won't get the time off, I also have a lot to go through as immunosuppressed and apparently should be classed as high risk and marked to have consultation lead appointments not midwife according to my hospital dr!
