@Missgemini hello!! how are you!
When is your test booked for? I booked initially for 6 weeks but the company rang and advised me to push it back a week so we could see more.. i just want to know how many are in there haha!
It’s nice to know that cramping is normal, im panicking for no reason and need to just relax and see what happens 🙂

I woke up this morning had a wee and now I'm burning down below, urine also very cloudy. I'm guessing I have a UTI, used to suffer a LOT when I was younger but haven't had one for years! I'm now chugging cranberry juice and water but am I best to ring the doctors at 8 for abx? I am 5 weeks pregnant today and it's a bit scary reading about the damage both abx and having a UTI can be in pregnancy!!! What's the right thing to do? Wait and see if I can flush it out myself or just ring the doctors?

@LauraA31 Im knackered but so grateful that things seem to be going well :)

The scan will be at approx 6+2 which is when I had my first scan with my boy. Like you, I am very certain of my dates, so I know that I will definitely be 6 weeks then, hence there should be a heartbeat hopefully. I’m 5+0 today. Will let you know how I get on next week :)

@Wouldloveanother definitely window shopping, I’ve decided what pram id like if we’re lucky enough and everything goes okay. I also ‘treat’ myself to a little browse of the baby clothes in the supermarket although won’t be buying anything for a long time, it’s nice to look 😂

Those who aren’t first time mums, what are your recommended must haves? I don’t even know where to start really, there’s so much out there.

I would get the essentials - for me, that was a few sleepsuits and vests, cosleeping crib, pram, sling, and some cloth nappies. Once the baby was here we ended up buying a lot in the first few weeks and months as we realised what we did and didn't need. We had bought a moses basket but hardly ever used it as we contact napped mostly.

Just catching up with this thread, I've been away for a few days. My nausea has properly set in now with a load of food aversions, just the same as last time. I was hoping it might be different this time!
I'm now 6+5 and have a scan in a few days to check viability which I'm really anxious about. I've never had an early scan before so I'm not sure whether to expect it to be internal or external?

@Sunnyxo @MamaOh I think I might have to Google some of those studies, thank you for the reassurance

Chocolat · 23/08/2022 08:07

@Leanne053 please call the GP for abx, I think it’s safer to treat it! It should only be a 3 day course and the one they give is generally safe xx

I’m hoping to combi feed but who knows if that will work, some babies will not take a bottle will they so I definitely need to consider that.

@AliceinSlumberland All newborns take a bottle - it’s only older babies who struggle as they are used to the breast.

But if you use a bottle and breast from newborn you could find baby refusing breast as they have to work to get the milk out, whereas with a bottle it just comes. They’re lazy!

For what it’s worth I’m still breastfeeding my first at 20 months and absolutely love it. It’s been the most amazing journey, we’ve never used bottles, and quite honestly I can’t wait to tandem feed.

I would love to tandem feed but I think my 3yo has self weaned over the last week. Perhaps she'll be interested again if she sees her baby sibling feeding.
I loved breastfeeding too, it was so hard at times but also so much easier in other ways, and I love how much comfort it can give. My DD had a nasty injury when she was 2 and she was so much in pain it was awful, but as soon as she latched on it instantly calmed her. It's amazing and I was so glad I had that tool for so long!

She would take a bottle after about 6 weeks, I think that's the recommended time to wait to avoid nipple confusion and things. I pumped sometimes or used the haaka and it meant I could go out on my own for a little bit if I needed to and not worry about feeding her. The first time I left her was for a birth reflection appointment at the hospital and she was totally fine - I was not, I was a nervous wreck!!

Leanne053 · 23/08/2022 08:15

@Chocolat thank you! I've been offered a F2F appointment! Haven't had one of them in years 😂 I'll do a sample for them, I guess they can do another pregnancy test too for me while I'm there as a little bonus 😙

AliceinSlumberland · 23/08/2022 08:16

Sorry I’m constantly asking for recommendations on here and you’re all amazing, but can anyone recommend a comfy bra to wear at home/sleeping? My boobs are quite big anyway and they’re really sore like mooching around the house in my pjs or going up and down stairs lol, thinking a nice soft non-wired bra might help?

BFing is something I’d like to try but it’s important to me for various unavoidable reasons that baby can be fed by someone else if needed, a bottle refuser would be a disaster, so if that means we end up FFing that’ll have to be the case. I don’t really mind either way to be honest but would like to try and give baby the good stuff for at least a while :)

Gilm0reGirl · 23/08/2022 08:22

@MamaOh another fan! It’s a good easy watch. I also loved safe infant sleep too and all its info on breastsleeping, I’ll have to dig it out for a memory refresh!

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 08:23

@Tubbytele yeah it's definitely a catch 22 not wanting to feel sick etc but also would be reassuring to have nausea or some of the other symptoms! I've been having really vivid dreams

@Gilm0reGirl I thought the same! It was good but not as good as the original, probably as good as a reboot could be though I guess. I think I liked the novelty of it the most, felt like a reunion 😂 ooh that would be a lovely name!

Lapin387 · 23/08/2022 08:23

@AliceinSlumberland if having bottle as an option is important to you, I’d ignore advice about nipple confusion. By six weeks my breast fed baby completely refused to try dummies or bottles, she just loved breast too much. With my second I had some expressed bottles from the start and there was no nipple confusion. Then lockdown happened and wtf was the point in pumping as I couldn’t go anywhere anyway, so the bottles were dropped! Maybe just the (mostly breastfeeding) circles I’m in, but I’ve heard of more bottle refusing breastfed babies, than of nipple confused breast refusing babies. Sorry if that sounds controversial!

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 08:35

@Leanne053 definitely call your GP. I’m in treatment for a chronic UTI and have been given lots of info on UTIs in pregnancy. Basically the antibiotics they give you are completely safe - it’s the infection that’s the concern - not the antibiotics. I’m on long term antibiotics in case that reassures you! Hope it clears for you quickly x

I had to combi feed and the infant feeding team were so so helpful in helping us with preventing nipple confusion and bottle preference. I agree bottle and breast can be done especially with the right help, being shown paced feeding and help with which type of bottle teat to go for, it can still be hit and miss aw they are all so different but with the right info and support you’ve got a really good chance of doing both. We combi fed for 6 months then breast with baby led weaning meant I could drop the bottle feeds, DD naturally weaned herself the day after she turned 1.

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 08:38

@Leanne053 just also to add - if you do start a course of antibiotics, try not to chug liquids too much. You want the antibiotics to be concentrated in your bladder to clear the infection quickly. I know it sounds counter intuitive as all the advice we see is to flush it out, but it doesn’t work like that.

Leanne053 · 23/08/2022 08:38

@Springblooms08 thank you for replying! Yes I've got an appointment this morning, I was reading about the complications, seems when you add pregnancy in front of anything it becomes scary 😟!

bluebubbles12 · 23/08/2022 08:41

Early scan day for me today at 8+1, eeek!! 😬

Good luck! Hope it all goes well and you enjoy it.

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 08:46

@Leanne053 I had a UTI at 5 weeks, the antibiotics were 100mg slow release ones over 7 days that were safe to take in pregnancy, and the nurse said it was more risk with the UTI than the antibiotics. Your pee does go very luminous on them though 😂🙈 xxx

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 08:48

@Springblooms08 oh I didn't realise this! I was having lots of water with mine thinking it would help... I might see if they can retest to check its fully gone...

@bluebubbles12 best wishes for the scan!! ✨✨

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 08:54

@Sunnyxo as long as you don’t have symptoms any more, then don’t worry at all. Best to judge on symptoms :)

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 08:56

@Springblooms08 weirdly I didn't have any symptoms to start with! I'd gone to EPU because of bleeding, and they said all okay but you have a uti 😬 I have my first proper scan Thursday though so will see if they can recheck then 😊
