@Sunnyxo ahh i see! It’s very likely the antibiotics cleared it up for you but sounds sensible to check if you have an appointment scheduled already :)

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 09:00

@Springblooms08 thanks for reassurance, sure it will be all okay 😊 definitely good to know for the future not to drink too much on antibiotics!

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 09:02

Is anyone else really struggling with commuting?! Being thrown about on a packed tube or bus crammed in with loads of other people is so not making me feel good right now 😂

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 09:04

@Sunnyxo it’s a funny one as all the advise you read is to flush it out. It’s definitely important to stay hydrated, but you also want the antibiotics to have a chance to work in the bladder. The NHS is massively behind on research into UTIs, so much of what I’ve learnt since seeing a specialist is so new to me!

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 09:09

@Springblooms08 it definitely makes sense not to weaken the antibiotic dosage, and guess it's better to drink more when not on medication to help prevent a uti as opposed to when treating it. That's good you're with a specialist, the nhs do tend to be a bit behind sometimes, did you find the specialist online?

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 09:14

@Sunnyxo yeah i think that’s sensible. I think just staying nice and hydrated without going over the top is the best approach! Yes I found them from reading online - it’s the chronic UTI clinic on Harley Street. The NHS don’t currently treat for chronic UTIs so I had to go private - I basically was getting UTI after UTI and each time the NHS would treat with a short course of antibiotics, which does nothing to tackle the embedded infection and actually makes it worse. They’re brilliant and will monitor me throughout the pregnancy as it (hopefully!) progresses

I would love to tandem feed but I think my 3yo has self weaned over the last week. Perhaps she'll be interested again if she sees her baby sibling feeding.
I loved breastfeeding too, it was so hard at times but also so much easier in other ways, and I love how much comfort it can give. My DD had a nasty injury when she was 2 and she was so much in pain it was awful, but as soon as she latched on it instantly calmed her. It's amazing and I was so glad I had that tool for so long!

She would take a bottle after about 6 weeks, I think that's the recommended time to wait to avoid nipple confusion and things. I pumped sometimes or used the haaka and it meant I could go out on my own for a little bit if I needed to and not worry about feeding her. The first time I left her was for a birth reflection appointment at the hospital and she was totally fine - I was not, I was a nervous wreck!!

She might be interested if she sees her sibling doing it!

Yes, definitely agree about the comfort - doesn’t matter what’s wrong, boobie can fix it! And you don’t need to drag any bottles or equipment anywhere, you just need your boobs 😅

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 09:34

@Springblooms08 that's so bad they don't treat chronic UTI's! Thanks for that, my friend has had chronic utis for years, throughout her pregnancies too, and as you say the nhs just put her on antibiotics each time so will let her know about Harley street or find one more local! That's great they'll monitor you throughout, nice to have that reassurance of a specialist. Have the clinic advised of a way to get rid of the embedded infection/chronic UTI or is it more so focused on managing it?

Wisher88 · 23/08/2022 09:37

@ClaBro1 congratulations! I'm five weeks tomorrow ☺️. I'm also looking to get an early scan and will probably try to wait until 7 wks so that there's more chance of seeing heartbeat etc but it'll be hard as every day is dragging! I just want to be past 20 weeks so I can enjoy it 😂

Wouldloveanother · 23/08/2022 09:38

I used the ergo baby 360 sling which was brilliant, will be getting it down from the loft and using it again!

I’m also going to buy glass bottles, I’ll breastfeed again if it goes okay, but I do like to introduce a bottle of EBM almost immediately as it really helps so I can leave them with DH and get some sleep.

Cribwise I think I’m going to buy the next2me, I wanted it last time but it didn’t fit the bed we had at the time. I’ll probably get it off marketplace and replace the mattress rather than buying new as they are quite expensive.

ClaBro1 · 23/08/2022 09:38

I know! The days are dragging but I’m sure the weeks will hopefully fly by. Hope you’re feeling ok and congrats! It’s such a surreal feeling at this stage isn’t it?

Wouldloveanother · 23/08/2022 09:43

personal question so please don’t feel obliged to answer second time mums, how were your births last time? It’s slowly dawning on me that I’ll have to do it all over again 😱

Livlaughloathe · 23/08/2022 09:47

Hello everyone, hoping I can be a late joiner to the party! I’ve been reluctant to speak in any pregnancy threads after having a week of bleeding and complete despair waiting to know what is happening but yesterday I had a scan at my EPU and everything is looking good, in the right place and we saw a heartbeat so I am relieved and back to feeling happy and excited about my pregnancy. I’m 6+4 today. Looking forward to sharing the journey with you all 💕

Springblooms08 · 23/08/2022 09:50

@Sunnyxo I know, it’s so frustrating that the just treat it in the same way as a one off acute UTI when it’s something totally different. Sorry for your friend, it’s really not fun! I would definitely recommend Harley Street - as far as I’m aware there’s only a couple in the U.K. so depending on where she is based, Harley St may be the closest. The treatment is a long time course of high dose antibiotics - so I’m currently on that and will continue to be until it clears. They have a really good success rate but it can take a year or even a few years. I think I will have a urinalysis every month of my pregnancy so they’ll know if the dose needs to be adjusted or changed at all - they look at your urine under a microscope so it’s a lot more advanced than the tests the NHS do, which very often give a negative result despite there being an infection. All a bit of a minefield but I’m slowly learning!

Tubbytele · 23/08/2022 10:01

@Sunnyxo keep us updated on how your symptoms go. Ah how are you finding the vivid dreams? I usually get vivid dreams normally so haven't noticed a big difference but two days before I did my first frer I had a dream I saw 2 lines on the test! I just put it down to me thinking too much about ttc so was really happy when I saw the lines in real life :)

chillichillioil · 23/08/2022 10:02

Hi lovelies, just wanted to give you an update of my scan at EPU. They said that my fetal pole is 4.1mm which measures me at 6+1 which is basically on track , so phew! Also saw a heartbeat with an abdominal. They have spotted a small haemorrhage though which they said is common? I've been put on progesterone tabs.

How are you all getting on today? I feel a lot better xxxx

I only just finished therapy after my DD birth. Hoping this time is better 🤞🏻 They will offer or maybe forcibly push for a planned caesarean but I’m not sure that’s what I want, I didn’t exactly love the recovery after the emergency one and if I had the choice I’d want a VBAC but there’s lots of variables to consider.

I also have glass baby bottles, they are so pretty!

OttilieKnackered · 23/08/2022 10:04

Hi @Livlaughloathe welcome to the thread. I’m also 6+4!

I hope you’re feeling less awful than I am!

To those with prior or family experience: how true is it that strong nausea or sickness is associated with twins?

Twins run on my mum’s and my dad’s sides, and this nausea is already really debilitating. I’m also 35 and I know being a bit older increases the risk.

Also, has anyone got any advice on managing nausea? I know I need to eat but it’s so hard to persuade the body of that when it’s the last thing you feel like doing. I’ve already lost a few pounds from reduced intake 😞 Thankfully I’m a little chubby so I’m not too thin yet or anything but I’m sure it can’t be good for baby for me not to be getting much in the way of nutrients.

Wouldloveanother · 23/08/2022 10:04

That’s fab chilli so pleased it went well for you xxx

Wouldloveanother · 23/08/2022 10:06

Well the vomiting has started… feeling better for getting it all up but 🤮

OttilieKnackered · 23/08/2022 10:09

@Wouldloveanother is it weird that I’m a bit jealous you’ve actually been sick? I kind of want to just to get some relief from the nausea.

ancienthouse · 23/08/2022 10:09

@chillichillioil that's great news you must be so relieved.

@Wouldloveanother my birth last time was a little traumatic. 4 days of labour and got to the pushing stage after being induced at some point, but ended in a category 1 emergency c section. I've since joined fb groups for vbacs and I'd really like to try again for a natural unmedicated birth. This time though I know what my limits are when things don't go to plan and how to assert my preferences more, and I think I will feel more in control whatever happens. I'm looking forward to getting to try again, but if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen, I think I will feel less traumatised as long as there's a healthy baby (and mum!) at the end of it.

Sunnyxo · 23/08/2022 10:14

@Springblooms08 so bad! It really does impact her day to day as well constantly having it. Thanks so much for the info, I will for sure let her know, I guess it's definitely worth it though after a few years to be free of it! Sounds so detailed and thorough, great to have during your pregnancy!

@Tubbytele I never remember mine so it's been quite a shock, i think it was my first symptom. They're so varied as well, I wake up not sure if it was real or not 😂 oh wow that's crazy seeing the two lines! What a prediction 😃

@chillichillioil oh what great news! So happy for you 😃 bet that was amazing seeing the HB, and progesterone should help! Shame that the window to the womb gave you such a worry unnecessarily - they sound like they got it completely wrong!

That’s excellent! Congratulations, I know what you mean about being hesitant to get too
excited or involved when you’re worried about a loss. But the scan sounds wonderful!
