Hi all

Thought I'd start a new thread. Just got my BFP. Had a MC in May so tentatively optimistic. Looks like my due date is April 1st. Would be good to get to know others in the same boat x

Evening everyone so happy all good @Skylark1990 💕

I have got the pregnancy bloat today. I absolutely do not remember having this with my first but got it very badly with my second thought I might get away with it this time but no 🙄 probably doesn't help my uterus is nice and stretched 😂

Skylark1990 · 12/08/2022 20:05

@Lapin387 I'm still breastfeeding too 🥰 my 23 mo, we night weaned over about 6 months haha it took ages but she defo got there in the end. Just doing 1-2 feeds in the day now for nap and bed time. I'm sure as yours is a bit older she will understand quicker. Is it that she's gone back to wanting night feeds or are you just starting out withcutting them? X

Banderbear · 12/08/2022 20:38

@41andtryingforfirst No nausea here either at 5+5. It’s so strange wishing to feel ill but it would be reassuring.

Wouldloveanother · 12/08/2022 20:39

Happy Friday 🥂 (0% Prosecco obviously lol)
Starting to feel really quite grim now - I’ve got serious brain fog, feel tired but can’t really sleep, got a bad tummy ( 🤢) and feel a bit queasy unless I’ve just eaten. Luckily DH has ordered me onto the sofa for the evening and is making a Thai green 🍛

Wouldloveanother · 12/08/2022 20:42

@41andtryingforfirst i haven’t had ‘proper’ sickness, as in I haven’t been sick or retched. I’ve just got mild queasiness when I wave up in the morning and if I have an empty tummy. It’s so mild though I don’t know if I would really notice it if I wasn’t pregnant. I was sick as a dog with DD for months, DSis had no sickness at all and a very healthy pregnancy. In my experience it usually means you’re carrying a boy (she was!).

How are you feeling this evening? Is the scan on Monday?

Wouldloveanother · 12/08/2022 20:45

We will be into thread 2 soon! Exciting 🥰

Skylark1990 · 12/08/2022 20:55

Thank you @mummatara 💞 I'm so so so so so bloated too, a couple days ago I was 6 months pregnant I swear 😅

41andtryingforfirst · 12/08/2022 20:56

@Wouldloveanother ohhhhh is that what morning sickness is? If so then I might have this - slight wave of nausea when I've not eaten for a while. Hmmmm ok I thought I'd feel really sick? Maybe it's coming 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm ok - scan on Monday at 10.40am. Spending most of my time lying down to reduce the bleeding although it's 22 days now so I am learning to live with it! DH has been brilliant and is doing everything around the house as my mood massively improves when the bleed slows.

Ah so sorry you're feeling poorly but glad you're being well looked after. I love a Thai green curry - you'll have to share the recipe! Xx

5+5 here and no real nausea for me yet either, which is strange for me as with DC1 I was sick every day since 4 weeks and it continued the whole pregnancy! I definitely think I'd feel more reassured with some nausea but I'm not actively hoping for it yet! Definitely feeling really bloated though, and is anyone else having discomfort in their vagina? It's not sore or itchy, it just feels quite heavy and noticeable somehow? I can't really explain it lol!

41andtryingforfirst · 12/08/2022 20:57

@Wouldloveanother which brand of 0% prosecco are you drinking? Is it any good? I'm really missing my wine...

OP posts:
Skylark1990 · 12/08/2022 20:58

I dont have much yet at all either @41andtryingforfirst and with DD it didn't get full on bad till like 8 weeks, I was nauseous from about 6, but everyone is different, I have a couple friends who basically didn't get nauseous at all and I'm in the minority of my friends as someone who actually had spewing sickness for weeks.

I was wondering, how many on here use the FB group? I've joined but I'm not active on it yet. Just wondering if it's a different group who's more active on here and if so are there reasons people won't join the FB group or are people on both or...? X

41andtryingforfirst · 12/08/2022 21:00

@ActualMermaid I had this and then I stopped using femfresh wash and it stopped after a couple of days. Not sure if it was creating some kind of irritation? Not sure if this could apply to you?

OP posts:
41andtryingforfirst · 12/08/2022 21:03

@Skylark1990 I run the Fb group and you're right there's not much activity yet. Would be good if there was as I'd find it easier to follow conversations etc.
It's a hidden group so the people on it must be on here too. I started it as I thought, as a secret group, people might feel more comfortable asking questions, sharing scans etc as obviously everything written on here is in the public domain?

OP posts:
ActualMermaid · 12/08/2022 21:06

@41andtryingforfirst Hmm, I don't use anything down there but water but I am using different washing powder so I might try switching back in case that makes a difference! So glad someone knows what I mean about the feeling though!

I'm sorry to hear about your bleeding, it must be exhausting. I hope this weekend passes quickly for you so that your scan comes quicker!

Skylark1990 · 12/08/2022 21:06

Also thankk you @belephant xx

41andtryingforfirst · 12/08/2022 21:08

Thanks @ActualMermaid - hopefully everything will be ok.

Yeah I know what you mean - when I had it it was like I noticed my vagina was there. Not particularly painful just a heaviness that drew my attention to it?

OP posts:
Banderbear · 12/08/2022 21:25

@ActualMermaid This! Haha. I have to keep casually adjusting my underwear.

CinderellaFant · 12/08/2022 21:40

@ActualMermaid yes I have this! I feel all swollen and puffy down below 🫤 I've read it's normal though, due to increased blood flow to the area

bluebubbles12 · 12/08/2022 21:47

I'm still keeping up on here, but I don't think I've written anything since I joined the fb group! I do find the back and forth conversations easier to follow on fb. It would be great if people did post their scans on the group. I'll post mine in a couple of weeks once I've had an 8 week scan (assuming all is well 🤞)

Wouldloveanother · 12/08/2022 23:01

I would join but I don’t have FB - hoping to keep in touch on here!

Hi all,
I am first time pregnant and clear blue shows 3+ weeks and all the calculators show I am 6weeks.. i contacted my local midwife community support 3 weeks ago as soon as I found out (that time I was 2-3 weeks) and already had missed period.
so far I have had no support from my local midwives and my first scan is booked at 12 weeks. I feel very left out and super confused with the care. I have so many questions and no support. My gp says to contact midwife and my midwife says to contact the hospital where I register to give birth. Because I am not in local catchment area of the birthing centre I am not eligible for my hospital midwife support.
my local midwife support is close to none.
i have not had my bloods tested yet and have no idea how to go about doing that.
please can some one help?

Lapin387 · 13/08/2022 05:55

@1sttimemumma194 congratulations and welcome!

What are you concerned about? You can read about pregnancy and nhs antenatal care here:
www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/

Unless you have other medical issues it is not usual to need blood tests etc at this stage.

Usually your first midwife appointment is between 8 and 12 weeks to get you “booked in”, where they go through all your history etc. The fact that you already have your scan booked is actually really good!

For now, unless there is a specific concern, I’d follow the advice on the website above eg no alcohol, take folic acid etc, and contact the local midwives again in a couple of weeks if you haven’t had a booking in appointment date through x

41andtryingforfirst · 13/08/2022 07:30

@1sttimemumma194 I totally get why you're feeling confused! My sister was exactly the same. The midwife didn't want to see her until she was at least 9 weeks and that was only to book in and the first contact she had with anyone really was at the 12 week scan. She had no support with morning sickness or anything!

It's a bit of a postcode lottery as to what kind of care you get and it also depends on what boxes you tick.

In my first pregnancy I was eligible for enhanced support due to my age and the fact I have some auto immune diseases. Unfortunately I never got to that stage as I miscarried and the miscarriage was super traumatic with hospital admissions and surgery and all sorts.

As I fell pregnant straight away with this little one and because of what happened in May/June, and because I've bled throughout and because I'm an annoying and persistent f***r I've been under the care of EPU and Ante-natal and I've had to be very proactive in securing that support. I was also eligible to book in with the midwife as soon as I got my BFP. But I wouldn't have had any of this had it not been for the risk factors I have and what happened last time.

Advice I'd give is:

  1. If you are concerned about anything (bleeding, pain, excessive sickness etc) then do seek medical help.
  2. Find out how to access EPU support in your area in case you do get bleeding or pain. In my area it's only by referral by a GP - you can't contact them directly. If I'd known this when I started miscarrying last time I could have avoided a delay in receiving care by contacting GP straightaway.
  3. If you have the financial means you can book private scans and/or blood tests as reassurance that things are progressing. A scan in my area is about £50 -£60 from 6+ weeks and bloods are £60.
  4. The community here on mumsnet are fantastic. We have a wealth of knowledge based on our own experiences and there's no such thing as a silly question or too much information so please do use us as a support 😊

I know it's frustrating as for the first 12 weeks you're kind of left to it to see what happens. If it's any consolation I honestly really would rather be in that space than where I've ended up (with lots of hospital appointments etc).

Hope that helps xx

@1sttimemumma194 it's normal not to have been seen yet. You will have a booking appointment in a couple of weeks where there ask you a few questions, my last was on the phone but I think they are usually face to face. Then you have a scan at 12 weeks. What support do you think you are missing?

Longbin · 13/08/2022 08:26

Bloods aren't offered on the NHS unless usually. I have fertility treatment and they wouldn't give me any either. You can get them privately to do at home through companies like medichecks. You will need to do 2 tests 6 weeks apart and check they double. If a case of MMC they can still double (I had this). As you get to 6 weeks they often do not double every 48 hours anymore as hcg is high so it won't tell you a lot. The safest way to check everything is progressing is through an early scan at 6 weeks plus, where they can see it's in the right location and hopefully has a heartbeat
