Just received all my growth scan dates and had a little tear, it's starting to feel real now! My 32week scan is on my DP's birthday and last year the day after his birthday was the 12 week scan where we found out it was a MMC so bittersweet but it will be lovely for him to have a good scan memory on his birthday if that makes sense 💙🌈 also ladies prime day on Amazon I've had some great deals, MAM bottles set 12 pound off, a next 2 me crib 70 pound off aswell

Skl2021 · 13/07/2022 12:05

@arianasky that will be a lovely memory for him especially after the mmc ♥️ I have also been looking on the prime deals debating over the bottles! X

Bridgey8 · 13/07/2022 13:11

@Skl2021 @arianasky I'm so confused on bottles! What do you need if you're going to try breast feeding?!

arianasky · 13/07/2022 13:11

@Skl2021 definitely 💕 I also got the rapid cooler on offer aswell a few people I know have it and say how amazing it is so thought why not?

OP posts:
Skl2021 · 13/07/2022 13:15

@Bridgey8 I have never breastfed so can't offer any advise sorry 🤦 i don't think you will need to buy anything untill you see how you go? Then if you need bottles buy them at the time? X

@arianasky whats a rapid cooler 🤦 never heard of one 🤣🙈 xx

Srx1 · 13/07/2022 13:34

I now wish I was organised a bit better so I could get some deals on amazon 😑 I don't know yet what I need 🙈 I was thinking of getting a pregnancy pillow but not sure what to go for 😄

Arwen7 · 13/07/2022 14:03

@Bridgey8 you don't need anything if you are going to breastfeed. Look into colostrum harvesting from 37 weeks, it can maximise chances of succesful breastfeeding. If when the baby arrives you change your mind and want/need to bottle feed then you can buy it then.

Bridgey8 · 13/07/2022 16:28

Thanks @Arwen7 !

On a different note I just had my 28 week (at 28+5) midwife appointment. Measured 27 - is that a worry? How accurate is that tape measure? X

Skl2021 · 13/07/2022 16:56

@Srx1 I'm not organized one bit! I look but don't buy anything 🤦🤣 xx
@Bridgey8 I don't think they Are accurate one bit! If they have any concerns they will send u for a growth scan! But I don't think there accurate either 🤣🤦 I'm sure everything is fine ♥️ I haven't been measured once and don't think I will be xx

barneymcgroo · 13/07/2022 16:58

@Bridgey8 I've ebf both mine so far. With ds1 I needed a lot of help - neither he or I were naturals! I was in for 3 days post cs, ended up using a pump in there. I was able to borrow (free) the pump, and all the necessary bits for a few weeks, til we got everything sorted. Only ever cup fed, never bottles, so didn't need those.

After about 3 weeks, was totally fine on bf, and DS2 fed with absolutely no drama from day 1.

So if planning to bf, you need Lansinoh for nipples, and industrial quantities of chocolate/cake. Oh, and stacks of muslins.

Bridgey8 · 13/07/2022 17:22

@barneymcgroo ok great - so you wouldn't bother buying steriliser all that stuff until you know how it's going to go.

Was thinking lanolin
Breast pump
Breast milk freezer bags

Then not sure! Surely would need some bottles etc if I end up expressing and using bottles? Gahhh feel so unorganised

Xx

Elspethelf · 13/07/2022 18:32

@Bridgey8 I think if your goal is to express, you should have bottles on hand. This is my goal too. I bought a sample pack with four or five different bottle brands. I read that babies may have bottle/nipple preferences so I didn’t want to stock up on one bottle brand just to find out the baby hates it.

barneymcgroo · 13/07/2022 18:37

I didn't even bother with steriliser. You can use a big bucket and Milton tablets if you need to at a push - just see how you go. That's the setup they had in hospital, so I just kept on with it.

I was utterly determined to bf, though I know lots of people who have been and it hasn't worked for them. So whatever you do, fed is best.

After about 4-5 weeks, it stopped being sore, and it was suddenly AMAZING - not having to get up in the night to make up bottles etc. And instant soother for him. I ended up cosleeping, so could just pop him on and go back to sleep myself.

barneymcgroo · 13/07/2022 18:40

@Bridgey8 Sorry, just rereading your post - if you want to express and bottle feed, then yes, bottles, pump etc. But absolutely possible to get through 4+ years bf with no equipment.

sunnyd67 · 13/07/2022 19:04

I've been in close contact with someone who tested positive for covid yesterday. I'm absolutely petrified of getting ill whilst pregnant. 😭 I hope I've still got some immunity against it, but it has been a year since I had.

barneymcgroo · 13/07/2022 19:07

Oh sod it @sunnyd67! My SIL had it a couple of weeks ago, pretty badly, but was only bad for a few days. Hope you manage to avoid it - seems to be everywhere at the moment.

Arwen7 · 13/07/2022 20:06

@sunnyd67 If it helps I have Covid right now - 4th day. First my DP got it and then it was me the next day! I had 24h of low grade fever which I took Paracetamol for and since then I've been feeling a bit better, although still tired, some chesty cough and head cold/congestion (this has been the worst of all!). First time I have had it and I had the booster. I was also immunosuppresed due to treatment for mc. Overall not worse than a bad cold luckily! Baby has been moving as usual and heartbeat is fine :) Hope you don't get it though x

sunnyd67 · 13/07/2022 20:55

I really hope so, it's the fever that worries me as it went quite high when I had it last year. I wasn't too bad then, but having the take any kind of medication doesn't sit with me right although I know paracetamol is safe.

Arwen7 · 13/07/2022 21:25

@sunnyd67 yes I know what you mean I hate taking meds in general let alone now in pregnancy however yes Paracetamol is very safe and definitely better for the baby than sustained fever. I was lucky mine didn't go more than 38C and always brought it down very quickly with the Paracetamol.

Bridgey8 · 14/07/2022 07:50

Thanks everyone for the info on bottle etc. So overwhelming as a first timer! Looking forward to antenatal classes in august to try and get my head round everything and realllly need to start buying some bits! Hope everyone is surviving in the heat 🥵

Kaytee91 · 14/07/2022 10:00

Hi all, hope you don’t mind me jumping in. I had an early loss De last year and am now due again in November (22 weeks currently) I had just started feeling like I’d ‘gotten over’ loss anxiety and posted our happy news on Facebook, then the next morning awoke to bleeding. Have been in hospital for 2 days whilst they checked everything (on the maternity ward with women going into labour & mums with their newborns!)- luckily scan was normal & no cause found so I’m free again with just some brown spotting now. I feel I’m right back at square one with the anxiety though. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

barneymcgroo · 14/07/2022 10:07

@Kaytee91 Jump in - glad your scan looked normal, and they'll have checked you over. Hope it all turns out to be nothing - there are a few repeat bleeders on here, and I'm sure they'll be along to reassure.

Kaytee91 · 14/07/2022 10:26

Thank you @barneymcgroo

barneymcgroo · 14/07/2022 10:45

Just had my 28 week check - I'm 27+4, but away on holiday next week. All fine, but fundal measurement small. She's sending me for a scan tomorrow - just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? How accurate are they? I'm pretty tall (good storage capacity) and was always 'neat' in my last two pregnancies. I feel huge already, so bit surprised about this. Not actually too worried, just after a bit of reassurance!
