Just got a call from a midwife and I'm so upset. As I posted here before (I saw my results on Patients Know Best on Thursday) my fasting blood test was fine (3.7) but my test after the glucose drink was slightly over (8.2 instead of under 7.8). So they've just told me I'm now diagnosed with GD, I'm high risk, will be changed to a different midwife team and no there is no opportunity for me to retest or anything – that's that. I'll have to test my blood sugars all the time. I can only be transferred back to birth centre team at 36 weeks (if my sugars are controlled). Pretty negative about this whole thing now, just feels like a nightmare.

Beanniebaby22 · 23/08/2022 17:45

Oh @StrongUsernameHere I’m sorry to hear that ☹️ I totally understand how disappointing that is. Fingers crossed for you all is ok at 36 weeks and you get to have the birth experience you want xx

Pebbles2022 · 23/08/2022 18:19

Hi all

New to Mumsnet (a lurker for the past few weeks) and just found this thread.

pregnant with my first - expecting a girl on the 14th November.

looking forward to catching up on this thread and reading more from other people!

Feb85 · 23/08/2022 19:40

Ok that’s good to know thank you @sarahj878 & @Ccatalina i think I might just have a regular manicure then just to be sure.

Hi @StrongUsernameHere i also was diagnosed with GD around 3 weeks ago I understand exactly how you feel and I found it quite scary when they explain the risks associated. I am not going to lye it’s rubbish and the one time we are meant to be able to indulge it’s taken away but i have had to say to myself it’s only for a couple more months. I felt so frustrated at the start but gradually have started to manage my readings the last few days from trial & error so fingers crossed this will work for you and you will have the delivery you want. I found talking to the dietitian helpful with snacks, substitutes, recipes etc. as I was surprised at what i was eating and is healthy can actually drastically affect it unknown to myself ie. Mine was cereal in the morning I have had to completely cut it out have something else and this has regulated morning readings. I also changed Midwife teams and will now see them every two weeks I am not sure if this is the same in every area and if everyone would like this but I have found it reassuring that they will be monitoring it closely. I hope your doing ok x

mjb0616 · 23/08/2022 21:33

@Pebbles2022 welcome to the thread :)

@StrongUsernameHere , I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with GD. It must be really scary, and I totally understand your frustration at having to switch care teams especially now you have likely come to trust your regular midwives. As crap as it is you are going through this, on the other hand you can be reassured you will be getting the best monitoring from a dedicated team to make sure everything is as safe as can be for your little one. As @Feb85 says, it is just a couple more months to get through and I am sure you're learning a lot of healthy eating habits since your diagnosis that you can tuck away for future x

Welcome to the newbies!

Has anybody else reached the third trimester and had their nausea return? I’m not being sick, I’m just feeling sick everyday.

This pain in my ribs is doing my head in, I remember it very well with my son and I know it only gets worse.

I love and hate being pregnant in equal measure, what we have to go through is superhero stuff! I mean I got shooting pains in my bits today in the middle of Greggs and could have actually cried whilst ordering my cheese pasty!!

Elle1709 · 24/08/2022 08:09

@CurlyNo2 my nausea has definitely got worse the last few weeks and I'm nearly 30 weeks now! Even though its never really gone away since week 6, I got some relief between around weeks 22-27. Now I'm starting to feel like I'm in the first trimester again 🙃 I'm so sickly all day and night, and I'm barely sleeping at all due to that and the awful rib pain as you mention! I'm also getting back pain and what feels like period like pains as well. I've actually packed my hospital bag and put it by the door just to give me some mental hope that its not long left now! Don't know how I will get through the next 9 weeks 😓 I feel bad complaining as this baby is a fertility baby and I'm so thankful, but being pregnant is so hard I never thought it would be this difficult. For anyone who has had more than one, did you get relief from symptoms as soon as the baby was born? x

CurlyNo2 · 24/08/2022 08:13

This is my 2nd baby, all my symptoms including rib pain etc disappeared as soon as my 1st son was born. You just develop other issues after the birth 🙈

I did have a permanent numb patch on my rib from where the pain was for the following 6 years until this pregnancy.

GeorgieEm · 24/08/2022 10:23

@Elle1709 I'm 27+3 & I'm really feeling it this week. Feel so drained physically & emotionally! I've anaemia so that doesn't help. Afternoon naps are becoming an essential. We also have the stress of moving house which I suppose adds to the pressure!

I understand how you feel about being so grateful to be expecting after we had a previous loss last year. However pregnancy is much harder than I expected! I suppose everyone's experiences are different.

I'm still waiting on results from Mondays GTT - @NotAdultingToday have you had your results yet? Not sure if I have to wait to see the midwife next week.

Otterses · 24/08/2022 16:01

@ab03 Never too early to think about Christmas 😁 ! Our families are around 5 hours away.

DS was around three weeks old and we were a similar distance away for Christmas when he was born (have still not fully recovered, the visit was a week long over Christmas and beyond shit with infected stitches, screaming new born who wasn’t feeding properly and a whole host of other issues). I’ve said this time family are welcome to visit, I’m happy to rent an air B&B or something for them to stay in, and lunch will be courtesy of M&S so me/DH can just dump the trays in the oven. DS would likely refuse to stay away for Christmas anyway as it’s the first year we have a chimney and he’s quite excited at the idea of Father Christmas being able to enter in the traditional way 😁

Otterses · 24/08/2022 16:05

@GeorgieEm I’m really glad you’ve said that! I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus this week. Moving house will definitely be a big factor, have you got much left to do?

I’m relieved to be finishing next Friday, I’m really not sure I could cut out much longer. Bonus is I’m working from home this week as I’m having daily monitoring for reduced movements, everything appears fine, but they won’t let me not go in until I can have a scan on Friday.

NotAdultingToday · 25/08/2022 09:40

@GeorgieEm sorry been feeling really rough with covid. I have not heard anything im just assuming no news is good news.

TFMinx · 25/08/2022 10:12

I've got my 28 week appointment today (I'm 29+1). My midwife is going to take my bloods to check iron, but I'm still feeling really tired and out of breath easily, so I'm betting I'll need an infusion. Looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again though. I'm also going to ask about physio for my back as I'm really suffering this time. Last time I was given physio and a girdle belt, so hopefully they can do something for me again.
Hope everyone's well and roll on November!

Elle1709 · 25/08/2022 10:29

@GeorgieEm I have anemia too, I have just started taking my iron tablets so hopefully they help with the tiredness. That sounds stressful moving house, we are still renovating ours and it gets me down some days as I just want everything to be clean, tidy and organised but its easier said than done!

@NotAdultingToday oh no, I hope you feel better soon. I had covid in the first trimester and I was in bed for 3 weeks.

Elle1709 · 25/08/2022 10:33

@Otterses good luck with your scan on Friday, I hope everything goes well. @TFMinx Thats exactly how I felt, tired all the time and out of breath, and my results came back as low iron. Hopefully your symptoms improve soon! I'm feeling very rough today, my nausea and vomiting have come back full force!

GeorgieEm · 25/08/2022 10:40

@NotAdultingToday I hope you're feeling better soon 😘 x

@Elle1709 the drs called me this morning & my iron levels are even less now than before, after taking the tablets for 2 weeks twice a day. Now been advised to up to 3 times a day. Feel so breathless & can't do the simplest of things without feeling faint. Roll on November ! Wish I was someone who 'glowed' in pregnanacy, does that even exist?! Lol. I'm struggling to believe it at the moment. Hope your tablets start to work soon for you
On the plus side we have a private scan booked for Sat to see baby & hopefully get a sneak peek in 4D if she's playing ball and facing the right way. On previous scans she has decided to face my spine lol x

GeorgieEm · 25/08/2022 10:41

@Otterses we're still waiting for a date to exchange. 12 Wks left & counting - if I go to 40 Wks & thinking - omg - we have so much to do! 😲 x

GeorgieEm · 25/08/2022 10:43

@Otterses sorry .. I keep missing bits of your message. I hope your scan goes well on Friday. Are you finishing for maternity leave?
I've been signed off at the moment, but hoping to return for a few weeks before I start annual leave then Mat leave. X

Kaykiscout · 25/08/2022 10:58

Morning everyone, smashed my phone screen so been between phones. Turns out they're really expensive to fix nowadays 🙈

Ridiculous, energetic second trimester me thought booking a holiday with a 2 year old for next month was a good idea. Has anyone travelled abroad in third trimester before? I'll be 31 weeks so getting my fit to fly note right before and have compression socks ready to go but not sure what else might be useful. Flight is only 2.5hrs and the only advice the midwife had was have a walk every 30mins and stretch a lot!

greenerfingers · 25/08/2022 14:57

The fatigue is real now. I'm so drained all the time and struggling to run after my 2 year old. I also decided to do a long distance road trip with him for a week and it was so tiring driving up as well as just being here constantly on the go. Not sure it was the best idea. 14 more weeks 🥹

NotAdultingToday · 25/08/2022 17:00

@Elle1709 that sounds awful! Im feeling really rough today but hoping its because im coming out the other side rather than getting worse!

@GeorgieEm thank you 😊 im hoping tomorrow is the day i feel better!
Did you get your glucose results?

CurlyNo2 · 25/08/2022 18:20

I can’t remember my 28 week appointment with my son, but for those that have had it recently, would it be appropriate to take a child with me? I don’t have childcare and I can’t remember if they do bloods etc there and then?

Beanniebaby22 · 25/08/2022 19:04

Had my 28 week appointment with midwife today and have been referred for growth scans. I had a feeling this would happen! I carry my weight around my tummy so tape measurements were never going to be accurate for me. Oh well it’s another chance to see my baby boy 😊

VolcanicProtectorMan · 25/08/2022 20:04

@CurlyNo2 My midwife did blood pressure, urine dip, general chit chat, then listened to baby and measured fundal height. She offered to do bloods but I hadn’t had much to drink so I said I’d book in with the phlebs at the hospital and she gave me the forms to take away. So perhaps you could ask to have them another day?

TFMinx · 25/08/2022 20:08

I'm currently in being monitored due to period type pains, but they've said it's most likely to be a urine infection. Trace is looking good so far, so I'll be sent home shortly. I was quite enjoying the peace to be honest!
