Has anyone had to have the gestational diabetes test? I'm 36 Weeks today and had a midwife appointment this week ahe she said I was measuring over, had a scan on Friday that confirmed the same and I'm having the test tomorrow. I just wondered if you get the results on the same day?

unknownscot · 22/05/2022 18:01

@Vimto1991
Nah I wouldn't be fussed about hiccups to no hiccups x

Octoblockisadick · 22/05/2022 18:40

@Katiebaby13 36 weeks seems quite late to have the test to me. I had it at 28 weeks, then a repeat at 32 because baby was measuring big.
At my tests they said they would call you the next day if you have GD, but if negative they just don't call you at all.

Katiebaby13 · 22/05/2022 18:50

@Octoblockisadick that's what I thought too. I'm wondering if she missed my growth previously or if within the two weeks I saw her it did grow too much. I guess I will just have to wait and see what they tell me tomorrow.

Clomid1 · 22/05/2022 19:09

@Vimto1991 same I had horrible period pains. i was on painkillers from day 1 to day 4 otherwise I couldn’t function. These 9 months of no periods have been amazing.

I’ve had a miscarriage and a HSG scan and both of them were extremely painful. I am really panicking about labour because I know its going to be even more painful and I am not sure I am going to be able to cope 🥺

Vimto1991 · 22/05/2022 19:13

@Clomid1 you will cope! Our bodies are made for this, and there’s always help with many kinds of pain relief!! You got this!
I’m not thinking of the pain right now, just the reward we get at the end. It’s the one thing stopping me from panicking and actually making me want to go into labour!

sunflower198 · 22/05/2022 19:30

@Katiebaby13 I was diagnosed with GD back in March and was told I had it within 24 hours of the test x

Katiebaby13 · 22/05/2022 19:37

Thanks @sunflower198

EarlGreywithLemon · 22/05/2022 20:22

@Clomid1 don’t panic - I’m very bad with pain and had a back to back labour, which is supposed to be extra painful. The epidural was amazing, and did not at all slow things down for me. There is great pain relief out there if you need it.

RoseValleyRambles · 22/05/2022 22:44

I'm now 35 weeks, so a bit behind many of you, and bump is suddenly feeling so heavy. My poor knees and hips! I keep accidentally kneeling down to do things and then regret it...

Everything feels a little exhausting at the moment. We've got DIY to finish, work isn't easing off at all even though it's my last week and a bit, and I just want to stop organising stuff and chill. Aargh.

DaimDillyDoo · 22/05/2022 23:36

Nothing came of losing my plug, I got my hopes up thinking something would happen at 39 weeks lol!

@Clomid1 I also found the HSG extremely painful but I have a high pain tolerance usually... it was agony!

CurryandSnuggle · 23/05/2022 05:06

@DaimDillyDoo its still a good sign though, can’t be too long now for you as it’s a sign your cervix is doing something. Maybe you’re just having a long latent phase..

Prema112 · 23/05/2022 08:11

@DaimDillyDoo & @Clomid1 That's funny, I am a wimp with pain and I found HSG fine. Maybe it depends who does it?! Ahh DillyDoo I was hoping for some baby new from you this morning! Good to know even if plug goes it doesn't mean labour is imminent. Seems like the only definite sign it's happening is waters going

Clomid1 · 23/05/2022 08:43

@Vimto1991 Thats true need to keep thinking about my baby in my arms once labour is done.

@EarlGreywithLemon when do they start talking about birth plans with you. I am 36 weeks now not a single person has mentioned any options to me. The only mention I’ve had is the possible induction before 40 weeks but no one has even explained that part to me either. It’s literally just we’ll give you a date for induction at the next scan.

@DaimDillyDoo 39 weeks already. Time has flown. I am intrigued to see if you have a May baby or June baby now. Fingers crossed that things start moving along very soon.

I think you mentioned taking letrozole? Can you believe we’ve made it this far. I need to keep pinching myself. With all the testing I genuinely thought it would never happen for me.

@Prema112 A few people I spoke to said it was fine for them too. Mine was super painful from the minute the dye released. It felt a bit like the sort of pain you get before the runs 😂 but up quite a lot of notches. I was super scared I was going to 💩 on the bed.

EarlGreywithLemon · 23/05/2022 09:05

@Clomid1 from memory, it was discussed at the 36 week appointment last time. No one has mentioned it at all this time though. Although I know I’m having a section I still do have a request for skin to skin straight after. So I’d quite like to discuss it! When’s your next midwife appointment? Maybe think of some preferences ahead of that and then bring it up? Some basics cover: do you want an injection to deliver the placenta or not, are you OK with the vitamin K injection for the baby, would you like skin to skin after? Then there are the labour questions- though it’s absolutely fine to have no preferences for that. Mine was very basic when it came to labour and more about after (basically early epidural as I’m bad with pain and CS rather than forceps - sadly that wasn’t possible).

Letsbekindplease · 23/05/2022 09:05

I’ve had such a terrible sleep. Waking up around 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep. Now late for nursery etc as my little guy just came into my bed and snuggled in.

i felt like labour was near over the weekend there but wasn’t to be.

GrowBabyGrow · 23/05/2022 09:15

@Clomid1 I had to force the birth plan conversation with my midwife. She'd sent me their birth preferences tick sheet (which covers stuff like pain relief, vitamin k, placenta delivery) and encouraged me to bring DH to the next appt to discuss the plan. At the appt she'd forgotten she'd sent the sheet and when I said she'd already sent it and I filled it in she just moved onto the next thing so I had to interrupt with some questions I had even though her 34 week appt list includes 'discuss birth preferences'!

I get the feeling it's very much something you have to bring up as they have so much to get through. So definitely go to your next appt with all your questions. I've found reading up about induction and other interventions has been helpful for understanding what I would prefer as well.

CurryandSnuggle · 23/05/2022 09:18

@Letsbekindplease ah, solidarity virtual hug! I’ve also been awake since about 4.30am. 😖 Bloody pregnancy insomnia. At least the baby waking us up in the night shouldn’t be such a shock to the system, eh?!

Octoblockisadick · 23/05/2022 10:07

@Clomid1 mine was discussed at the 36w appointment. Very basic though, more just what the different pain relief options are, and vit k. Oh and they also talked about types of monitoring they would offer.

Anyone who has had sweeps, when did they start offering them? My hospital said they would offer one at my next scan (38+3) due to expected size of baby and that being the next time I'm seeing anyone. Not sure if it's worth phoning my community midwives see if they would do one sooner because I'm 37+ now, or if it has to be after 38?
I'm willing to try almost anything to kick start natural labour tbh.

Letsbekindplease · 23/05/2022 10:13

@CurryandSnuggle haha hopefully.

is anyone else being sick too? I was sick maybe 2-3 weeks ago and I’ve just had it again. Feel awful. And it’s always so sudden

Vimto1991 · 23/05/2022 10:20

@Octoblockisadick mine is being offered at 38+6, hoping to have one this week instead, going to ask my midwife tomorrow as I’m not sure who to ask. The bank holidays in the week kind of screw up plans
to have the sweep next week so I’d like it this week instead, so I’ll find out if you can have it any earlier tomorrow (although im 38 as of Wednesday).

Prema112 · 23/05/2022 10:38

Just had a scan because of reduced movements on Thursday, movements have returned to normal over weekend. Baby looked fine, placenta looks fine but they said I have increased fluid. They didn't really say what that meant just that she'd talk to her supervisor and fetal medicine would give me a call if they needed to. I'm feeling really sad at the thought of something being wrong and I'm worried they will just want to induce which I really don't want. So want this baby to just come naturally ASAP...

annie1994 · 23/05/2022 10:58

@Octoblockisadick for my DS1 I had a growth scan at 39 weeks and he was measuring big so they gave me my first sweep there and then. I would assume they’re happy to start sweeps from 37 weeks if there was a reason to! But I’m not sure.

@Letsbekindplease yes my sickness has started again, and like you say, comes on really suddenly!!!

GrowBabyGrow · 23/05/2022 11:09

@Prema112 glad to hear baby and placenta are ok, I hope you can get clarity on the increased fluid soon. would you consider requesting a caesarean instead if you really don't want an induction? Hopefully as they didn't immediately send you to a consultant that shows they aren't too worried.

My post-reduced movements scan is this afternoon, baby has been really active all weekend but I'm a bit anxious they might still find something wrong.

Prema112 · 23/05/2022 11:24

@GrowBabyGrow Good to hear your baby has been really active over the weekend. I'd prefer an induction to a C so will just need to see what they say, I'm reading up on positive induction stories now! Hope your scan is all fine with no issues, let us know
