Just wondering what you guys have experienced weight gain wise. I’ve gone up 4 dress sizes ( really disappointed as I was already plus size) but bump wise I am not going to lie I just look like people that wear that dress size anyway. People have doubts about whether I am pregnant or just fat so I am wondering whether I’ll lose any of this pregnancy weight because its like I’ve just gotten wider?

Flowerbug1994 · 15/05/2022 12:52

@PleaseSendNoodles I had my last presentation scan Friday and baby is still breech at 36 weeks I have to go to breech clinic on Friday to meet with consultant I already told midwife who scanned me that I won’t be attempting to deliver a footling breech and she agreed I also told her I want a c section and don’t find manual turning appealing success rate is to low and risks are to high. With a breech section all the risks lie with you not baby and I would rather the risks be to me not him.
@RoseValleyRambles my midwifes also don’t think am getting turning as he has been in this position for 8 weeks that I know of now.
@EarlGreywithLemon they say can turn in your sleep but I think I would 100% know if he had because I can still feel his head under my ribs and them very low down kicks. Also haven’t had any feet sticking out my bump high up which is a sign only a head down baby.

ive resigned myself am having a section now and am quite happy with it my other option is induction at 39 weeks as I’ve had couple eps of reduced movement. And am not fancying being induced.

MrsTwentyNine · 15/05/2022 13:16

@Clomid1 @Vimto1991 I share the same worry! Our upstairs gets ridiculously hot. We do have an air con for this exact reason but then I am also worried it will get too cold and I won't realise 😑 But I suppose we are waking up every 2-3 hours to feed them anyway so we should be able to check they're doing ok by feeling them? Minefield...

Also @Clomid1 I'm the same as you. Don't want to check the scales as I'm terrified and also worrying if I can lose all the weight. I'm sure it's doable! I was already plus size too. But the way I see it is, we are growing a human currently and can't fixate on that for another few weeks (4 for me!) I'm hoping a few months in, I can get to a gym with a PT and sort this whole thing out in my year off! Positive attitude Smile

I've been so out of the loop on here that I don't remember my due date buddies 🥺 Who else is June 15 ??

Ladies I'm having a haircut tomorrow and don't know what to do. In anticipation of most of it falling out post partum, do I cut my long hair short ? Or keep it the way it is and see what it does after birth ? Just want it tidied and out of my face for now mainly and I figured I won't be taking myself to a hairdressers anytime soon after this!

Octoblockisadick · 15/05/2022 14:10

@CurryandSnuggle thank you. I'm mostly pretty chilled about giving birth, but I had an elective section last time so have never done it and it gave me a bit of a wobble. My main concern is if I'm tense I might tear but if I do then I do I guess.

@Vimto1991 our old house was like that. We kept windows open a lot, curtains pulled if sun was on that window to keep some of it out the room, a fan on most of the time and my daughter slept in just a nappy or nappy and vest. Our new house is much cooler so this time I'm worried about putting enough clothes on baby haha! We can't win really.

@Clomid1 I'm not weighing myself so can't say from that pov, but I'm wearing my husbands clothes (2xl) if that tells you anything haha. My maternity clothes are 1-2 sizes larger than I was before, and I've definitely gained weight on my thighs/ bum. Not too much round my face though I don't think. Don't worry about it anyway, you need to grow the baby! And when baby arrives also don't worry about it, some will come off naturally and the rest can go with time.

@MrsTwentyNine I would leave your hair longer at the minute, you are likely going to want to tie it up away from your face in labour so keep it long enough to do that.

MrsTwentyNine · 15/05/2022 14:12

@Octoblockisadick good idea! Think I'll just leave it long so it can be a messy bun for the next however many months!

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/05/2022 14:40

@Flowerbug1994 interesting, I had no idea they can turn in your sleep unnoticed. Like you though, I’m still feeling most movement low down, and it feels like kicks. So I think he’s still breech - but I’ll know for sure at the scan next week. Even if I wasn’t having a section anyway, I’d be the same as you - hard no to vaginal breech birth, and to an ECV. For the same reasons as you!

@Clomid1 I weighed myself today, and I’ve put on 12.7kg, which comes up as normal in the pregnancy weight gain chart I looked at. I don’t know what that translates into for dress sizes though, as I’ve been wearing maternity clothes. Last time the weight came off slowly
by itself over a year- a year and a half or so. I didn’t make any effort at all to lose it through. I think my shape did change a bit

  • maybe a bit wider in the hips and the rib cage. But nothing too dramatic!

I am a bit worried about the temperature; our room is under the eaves and gets very hot. Our daughter is a November baby, so I can’t compare. But I think I’ll just dress Jim lightly and, if that’s not enough, we’ll buy a small aircon unit. A couple of friends have them and rate them.

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/05/2022 14:41

I don’t know what happened there with the formatting. So many issues with this new site!!

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/05/2022 14:42

And dress him lightly, not Jim!

InvisibleDragon · 15/05/2022 15:07

@Clomid1 @EarlGreywithLemon don't know how much weight I've put on but my breasts have for massively bigger. Was a size 8-10 on top before with a B/C cup size. Don't know what cup size now, but I think I'd need a size 14 to have something do up over my chest. Apparently breasts get even bigger when breastfeeding! I really don't like this - hope things eventually go back to normal!

Did the baby washing I was moaning about today ... Was quite emotional looking at all the tiny clothes! Unfortunately I left a "pack of 3" sticker on something and it shredded itself across some sleepsuits. FFS. Although miraculously not everything in the wash!

Vimto1991 · 15/05/2022 15:09

DH just spent too much money on a dyson fan that has a purifier in it, he justified it’s for the baby so had to get that one but can’t help think we could have got 10 air con units for the price of it. Hope it bloody works. 🙈 to be fair, I want it now so I can sleep 😂

RoseValleyRambles · 15/05/2022 15:23

Which baby carriers have people give for if they're using sounds t? Had a very bad demo at John Lewis today so wondering what people think for a summer newborn. Don't want to get too hot and sweaty...

RoseValleyRambles · 15/05/2022 15:23

Slings, not sounds!

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/05/2022 16:34

@RoseValleyRambles I’m not sure if it counts as a sling, probably more of a carrier, but we have an Ergobaby Omni 360. We got the mesh version, and it didn’t get too hot in the summer with our daughter. Or so my husband says, he carried her mostly!

Prema112 · 15/05/2022 16:40

@RoseValleyRambles I've got a generic stretchy sling and a little frog woven wrap. I can't wait to try the little frog one with baby, my mum bought it for me years ago when we started trying for number 2 and I'm so excited I actually get to use it soon. I loved carrying my son, hardly used the buggy the first 6 months

annie1994 · 15/05/2022 17:13

Just looking for a bit of advice. All day I’ve had like a really heavy pressure in my lower back, pretty sure baby is breech as majority of his movements are right down low. He was originally transverse but wondering if all this pressure is just him changing positions? I’m only 33+4.

I can’t really remember with my first son if I had this pressure this early on. I remember the day before I gave birth he literally felt like he was going to fall out my vagina 😂 but it’s more my lower back/ bum this time!!

beansprout55 · 15/05/2022 18:33

Ooooo @Prema112 I had never heard of Little Frog. Just went on the website and love it - might get me one of those.

@RoseValleyRambles I'm also anxious of baby getting too hot and sweaty using the slings in the summer. FTM and I love the look of using a sling for the closeness and practicality, but I'm worried of SIDS. Also don't want to spend a fortune on one in case I don't end up using it.

Washes/oils/shampoos - what's everyone using? I'm on Amazon now looking for inspiration. I remember watching my SIL who's a paediatrician oil my nephew head to toe after his baths when he was tiny tiny. I never asked why but I just remember he smelt so so good and I want my baby to smell the same for the short time he's clean until he poops up his back 😂

Prema112 · 15/05/2022 18:47

@beansprout55 We used olive oil for baby massage and coconut oil for cradle cap. Nothing in his bath until he was about 3!

Sling libraries are a great way to try out different slings. As far as I know baby wearing reduces Sid's as long as you wear them properly. I always remember one of the points was close enough to kiss 😘

Brightsmoke · 15/05/2022 19:02

Also just Googled the little frog carrier, looks just like the connecta that I had with my son, and fully recommend.

We have aircon throughout the house (husband used to fit it, now designs and sells it), and I'm pleased it's there so we can regulate the temperature of our room/babies room. Definitely recommended if you can afford even just a ground unit 😊

My sons party today was brilliant! The entertainer was fantastic and all the adults were laughing along too. Everyone mucked in to help tidy up at the end, so that was amazing. Soooo tired now, so I've actually just got into bed to go to sleep 😂😂

Letsbekindplease · 15/05/2022 19:36

@Brightsmoke wow, that’s the kinda guests you want. Haha. Glad party was good

I feel absolutely miserable today. Busy day yesterday and today I feel floored. I’ll be 37 weeks this week and I’m just ready for baby although not ready in the house and I’m really feeling quite scared for the labour. I don’t know why I’m getting myself so worked up. I’ve done it before. It wasn’t great but it didn’t put me off for a second.

just feeling like the rest of us here. Tired, sluggish, sick at times and I can’t bend or do a thing for myself.

Prema112 · 15/05/2022 19:57

@Letsbekindplease Sorry to hear you're feeling down. I'm feeling a bit like this too, very busy day yesterday and today and just had a nap 5-6.30pm so not sure how that will affect nights sleep... I wanted to tidy and house this eve with DH but he's gone out and I can't face trying to pick things up off the floor on my own! Just feel like I'm so ready to have baby outside, but so not ready logistically. Our nursing chair we were picking up today for £70 fell through which I'm gutted about was so looking forward to sitting in it pregnant and hopefully feeling comfortable!

Prema112 · 15/05/2022 19:57

@Brightsmoke So glad it went well- now you can relax!

Prema112 · 15/05/2022 19:58

Also yay for not having a baby on the same day as your sons birthday!

beansprout55 · 15/05/2022 20:04

@unknownscot I hope your baby shower went well?xx

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/05/2022 20:22

@beansprout55 we didn’t use anything at all with our daughter until she was at least a couple of months old.

We’ve then used Aveeno Baby shampoo and moisturiser, both unscented, ever since. The consultant paediatrician we saw at three months (for her reflux!) said that was good, but spotted she had dry skin and advised Oilatum in her bath. We also used Dentinox shampoo a couple of times for her cradle cap.

I am loath to use anything scented on her (even oil) to this day. I have allergic dermatitis and know from dermatologists I’ve seen that scented products are usually the biggest culprits. So all the baby oils, lotions and potions we were given as gifts are still lying in a drawer somewhere!

RoseValleyRambles · 15/05/2022 23:14

I'd love to use Johnson's baby for the nostalgic smell, but I'm assuming it's got lots of nasties in so have also gone for aveeno.
