On the way home! They're not sure why I'm cramping, but the doctor said it could be a sign that labour is only 1-2 weeks away 😬

@JAR1981 my midwife told me to read the page on RCOG and it's quite straight forward reading so recommend that. I have a pre-elective consultation next Friday so will post anything informative I find out but basically I've been nothing but totally reassured than an elective is low-risk and pain shouldn't be an issue at all as long as you keep on top of painkillers ie paracetamol and ibuprofen so nothing heavy duty at all!

slowrunningteacher · 06/05/2022 16:07

Lightning crotch = ow!
I've never experienced it until today. I even said to my 23 month old that she never did this to me 🤣.
I'm looking forward to no longer being pregnant. I seem to have been pregnant forever! Actually having a baby here is quite daunting though and I'm still in denial that it's happening 🤔. I was the same with my daughter though. After multiple losses it's hard to believe that it's happening.

Prema112 · 06/05/2022 16:13

@MrsNT I've been positive for Group B Strep in the past and had a test in second trimester which was negative. I asked midwife at 34 weeks if they will test again and she said no, so I don't think it's a routine test. It's good they found yours and the antibiotics will protect your baby ❤️

Prema112 · 06/05/2022 16:15

@slowrunningteacher Same! Never had it with my first and had it a few times now with this one. I just did the school run and was in quite a lot of pain getting back, I think a bit of sciatica and back/hips aching. Really hope this baby isn't late 😬

Lostintranslatio · 06/05/2022 16:35

@Vimto1991 my partner asked yesterday in hospital about the movement monitoring, as he said I get worried sometimes, and we were told that as soon as I'm feeling 10 movements between breakfast and dinner, baby will be fine. And the typical things: having a cold drink and lie on my left side to concentrate on feeling anything. Tbh I'm glad he asked as I felt so much relieved. They also said to call in if I'm worried, not to stay home all concerned about baby.

My baby seems to be on the small side but still within the parameters for 32 weeks, so I'm very happy. We could also see her breathing and suckling her foot 🤣

Reg the cot, we need to bring it from my in laws but as we might move before my due date we are still waiting. House is a mess as we have a lot of baby stuff still waiting to be sorted, but I don't want to do it now of we are going to be moving in the coming days 🙄

Octoblockisadick · 06/05/2022 17:37

@Brightsmoke how many weeks are you now? What are you feeling about intervention, I know you said you wouldn't want it based on size alone but if there are other issues will you have anything? Glad it seems like not an issue at this point though, fingers crossed it all stays OK.

@fpeg that's ridiculous with work haha, do they think you could have done the whole project today before leaving or something 🤣

@JAR1981 sorry you are feeling rough, hopefully it passes quickly for you and you are feeling better soon. Re babies size, NICE guidance specifically recommends against intervention based on measuring big alone due to the possible inaccuracy of scans. Not sure if you would be happy to decline interventions but it might be something to consider if size is the only issue. However I did have elective section last time and it was brilliant so if you decide that route I'm sure you'll be fine 🙂.

@mrkb glad you are home and exciting that baby may soon be making an appearance! When is your section planned for, will they bring it forward if they think labour might be sooner?

Brightsmoke · 06/05/2022 17:49

@JAR1981 he's measuring at 7lb 12 at 36 weeks, so estimated to have grown 1lb in 11 days 😬 Glad your husband was there, can't have been nice feeling like that!

Another one who didn't have lightning crotch the first time, but massively does this time!!

@Octoblockisadick 36 weeks. I will not have a full induction regardless, but will have 1 pessary if necessary. But I'm debating cancelling Home birth from 40 weeks if he continues growing how he is, and then waiting it out, but I'll see what the consultant says and go from there.

NorthDevonBeachLover · 06/05/2022 18:44

What on earth is lightening crotch?!
Also please can someone tell me that I'm not the only one feeling really emotional and crying over the smallest thing's right now, hormones?!

Ctg all okay, trace of protein in urine again, been ordered to have a restful weekend and keep an eye out for other symptoms of pre-eclampsia.

Rolledthedice · 06/05/2022 18:47

@Brightsmoke that’s frustrating to hear the push back against home birth, although that is their medical bias at play so no real surprise. All you can do is to listen to your body and instincts, you know yourself better than anyone else. From all I’ve read it sounds like scans are not always accurate. A woman I was doing Pilates with was told her baby would be really big, so she opted for induction and to her surprise he was born an average size/weight!

Are you on any of the homebirth support groups on Facebook? I’ve asked a few questions on there about my varicose veins and felt reassured hearing from women who birthed with them.

Rolledthedice · 06/05/2022 18:48

Sorry to hear about the covid woes! I hope you all recover soon! x

unknownscot · 06/05/2022 18:54

I've had my rings around my neck for months, but starting to drop the fat now and can get my rings on again. 😂😂

unknownscot · 06/05/2022 19:17

Interesting to hear thoughts re: induction or elective section - I'm leaning towards induction but seem to be the odd one out on that with everyone I discuss it with 😂

Vimto1991 · 06/05/2022 19:37

Does anyone else’s baby do shuddery movements? They aren’t all smooth rolls and sometimes feel like it’s a weird staggered jab, I have noooo idea what they’re doing in there. As a FTM I’m always like ‘is that normal?’ 🙈

Rolledthedice · 06/05/2022 19:45

@Vimto1991 yes! I started getting that this week (34 weeks) and have no idea what it is. It’s feels odd, might be an arm shaking about?! In general all my movements have got so much bigger this week, it was almost overnight that I felt stronger kicks and rolls. I assume it’s down to them running out of space.

mrkb · 06/05/2022 19:50

@Octoblockisadick section is planned for 30th May! I actually didn't think to ask haha but I have my 36 week midwife appointment next Wednesday so will chat to her then/ask at my pre-op consultation next Friday! Can't believe how soon this all is now - I remember getting my positive test 34 weeks ago and now all of a sudden she's nearly here!!

I've started getting lightning crotch this week and it's the worst! Combined with restless leg syndrome, baby up against my diaphragm making me feel like I can't breathe and constantly needing to get up for a wee, I don't think I've slept for more than an hour at a time in ages.

@Vimto1991 mine does those weird movements! It happened this morning with my cramps but several different midwives said earlier that as long as baby is moving - no matter how weird or irregular - they are happy so I'm just going to take their word for it for now!

Vimto1991 · 06/05/2022 20:07

@Rolledthedice @mrkb nice to know I am not the only one! I just wish I knew what they were doing to make such weird movements some times haha! I didn't even know they could move that fast. DH thinks they are rolling over and hitting us with their elbow or something.

mrkb I am the same at the moment minus lightning crotch. I sleep for about two hours at a time then get up to pee, heartburn, struggle to get back to sleep with restless leg (which went away for like one sweet week), getting up the stairs at the moment is such a challenge! What am I going to be like when the baby is here, one knackered mommy I think. 😂I went to bed at 10pm last night, woke up, checked time... 12am! That used to be my old bed time, now it was just the first pee of the day. 😂

mrkb · 06/05/2022 20:47

@Vimto1991 😂 lost count of the number of times I've thought it's got to be morning and actually it's about 11pm! At this rate I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if I got MORE sleep with a newborn 😅

Roxystar23 · 06/05/2022 20:52

@Vimto1991 - I’m the same, I’ll be in bed and think I’ve been asleep for hours but it will turn out that I’ve only been asleep 20 mins. I can’t remember the last time I slept for a solid period of time longer than 2 hours! My best “sleep” at the seems to be the really deep naps I have on the sofa in the middle of the day.

and don’t get me started on the stairs! I’ve had to ask my partner if we can watch the last tv show we plan on watching before going to sleep in bed instead of on the sofa. We live in a 3 storey house and our bedroom is on the top floor. All I think about is the crawl up both flights of stairs - I have to take a break in between floors to catch my breath. I can’t wait to start feeling more normal again - I’m almost understanding of the tiredness - it’s the shortness of breath that frustrates me.

Vimto1991 · 06/05/2022 21:11

@mrkb i honestly think the same! My friend keeps telling me how I need to get prepared for no sleep and I told her I don’t really get it anyway so I think I’ll be a zombie before and after 😂

@Rolledthedice our bodies just really getting used to waking up every few hours. 😂I can’t remember the last full night sleep I got either! I can’t nap it makes me feel awful so I power through but end up so sleep deprived 🙈 my own worst enemy considering in a months time I will need to live off naps haha
oh no! I don’t know how you cope with three flights! One is enough for me. I’m so grateful to have an extra toilet next to the living room, if only my bed could be on the ground floor, too. 😂 in my last house the only toilet was downstairs and the bedroom upstairs, I wouldn’t be able to cope with that 🙈 simplest of tasks leaves me out of breath/fatigued!

Clomid1 · 06/05/2022 22:04

Thank you for all the kind words of support and reassurance. You all kept me sane for the last few days and I can’t thank you enough.

Good news at the scan she has grown therefore we’re aiming for full term now. She is on the smaller side but they are not concerned about her now. I have an appointment with foetal medicine where I’ll find out a bit more information but for now she’s going to be staying in my belly for a bit longer 😁😁😁

Annabell1 · 06/05/2022 22:07

I finally managed to catch up 😂
@Prema112 @CurryandSnuggle @fpeg Congrats for finishing work! That must be lovely. Enjoy the time off before they arrive.
@CurryandSnuggle & @JAR1981 Oh noo, so sorry to hear that you caught covid now. Wishing you both a speedy recovery. Flowers
@PeeAche2 So exciting that Baby Peeache is coming home.
@Babyno21990 I hope your little one will stay put a bit longer ❤️

I have also started eating dates and had my first cup of raspberry leaf tea today.
With a bit of honey its actually really nice. 34 weeks tomorrow. 🙈 I still can't believe I've made it this far.
Is anyone else having super flaky skin? I almost feel like a snake 😂
5 more weeks at work and even though I'm looking forward to mat leave, it also feels really strange.
And we had our second Bump and Baby class yesterday. Such a great group and a lovely teacher.

Annabell1 · 06/05/2022 22:09

@Clomid1 Such good news! I'm so happy for you. ❤️

JAR1981 · 06/05/2022 23:16

Wonderful news @Clomid1. you must be so relieved.

@Vimto1991 and others - with you on both no longer sleeping longer than 2 hours, and the weird shudders. I’m looking forward to being able to see them do it in the flesh so I can relate to what it is!

@Octoblockisadick i have numerous factors (ivf, over 40, GD, big estimate weight, thyroid and blood clotting disorder) which the consultant said all add up to them not recommending I go anything over 40 weeks. I know it’s my choice at the end of the day but just want to do whatever it takes for them to arrive safely. @unknownscot i was in the induction camp until my appointment this week - anything up to the drip before then switching to CS but the consultant is now recommended straight to CS vs that approach so I have 13 days to decide which to book eek.

Vimto1991 · 07/05/2022 00:33

Went to bed at 10, woke up at half 11, can’t get back to sleep because of restless leg!! The leg is freezing, my body feels boiling, so don’t think it helps!! Think I’ve actually built up a sweat with my leg bouncing around. 🙈
Cursed myself talking about it 😅 good thing my baby shower is at 12:30 tomorrow!!

@Clomid1 that’s so good to hear! You must be over the moon. :)

Katiebaby13 · 07/05/2022 04:09

@Vimto1991 with you on the waking up and not getting back to sleep. It's so annoying. Can feel my heart burn increasing as I'm awake too.

Also know what you mean about the jerky movement, scared me the first time but it's become more regular. Wish we had a little window to peak through.

Thankfully not had Restless leg, don't like the sound of that.

My baby shower tomorrow too!

You must be so relieved@Clomid1

This thread has really shown me how inaccurate measurements have been for people. It causes so much stress.
