@nutella99 I'm a contract researcher at a university, my current contract runs out in September. While I want to tell my boss in the hope he can find more funding to keep me on/help me find another project, I'm also concerned that this will be used against me to not put me on new work (but I'm in the union, so any sniff of that behaviour and it'll be complained about)

stuntbubbles · 30/05/2022 12:07

@Meowcat89 Gosh, how scary for you. Especially when you feel you’re in the “home and dry” stage. Can you ask EPU for a scan today? Hope all is well.

stuntbubbles · 30/05/2022 12:11

@Nutella99 I told my work – line manager and HR, anyway – at about 5 weeks because I felt so awful. Our time is tracked to the minute and I didn’t want it flagged that my billable hours had reduced drastically as I just couldn’t maintain the pace. This way I’ve been able to schedule in a nap and manage my daily vomiting sessions without worry. Though my boss is like “soon you can ANNOUNCE and we can CELEBRATE” and I’m like… “that is not me, as a human, and my preference would be to never tell a soul not even when a baby appears. Please be chill.”

@Tofu35 I have zero good pregnancy symptoms, look like a wreck, feel dredged up from the deep, even my tongue is fucked up and weird-looking, if I deserve anything it’s spontaneously orgasming in my sleep, the lazy girl’s sex life. Sorry about the rat soup though 😂

Laughingmole · 30/05/2022 12:15

I’ve had quite bad cramping pains all over the weekend. I’m hoping it’s just normal stretching pains but I’ve also read it could be a urine infection. Managed to get a gp appointment for this afternoon so that will hopefully put my mind at rest!

Mommabear20 · 30/05/2022 13:45

@Nutella99 I told my work at 5 weeks 😂 I work with food so the smells combined with morning sickness wasn't a good combination!

Meowcat89 · 30/05/2022 17:43

@stuntbubbles I know I thought I was safe enough to a degree but there's always the doubt there 😢 I'm just going to wait to be seen tomorrow. I'm still spotting a little but nothing like this morning's gush. Typical because I told my family yesterday as well!

In terms of telling work - I work in a hospital so it felt easier telling people just after I'd had the 12 week scan done. I told my manager a bit earlier though to make appointments easier to attend.

Phoenixwings1989 · 30/05/2022 19:26

I went for a scan today what with having spotting last week and was told I was measuring for five weeks which is confusing as I had the positive at the beginning of May which read 1-2 weeks pregnant then took another last week which read 3+. Sonographer did say she couldn't get a good look and suggested we did an internal but couldn't get a clear picture that way either. 🤷

In the end we got a picture but we didn't get to hear the heartbeat and have to go back in two weeks time to make sure everything is fine. Dreading it after today.

DogsAndGin · 30/05/2022 21:04

@Phoenixwings1989 at five weeks you wouldn’t expect to see much, and they don’t listen for a heartbeat until a later scan. Wishing you well x

DogsAndGin · 30/05/2022 21:05

New symptom, very hard red itchy nipples! 😂😩😩😩 just walking around holding my boobs (to avoid friction) like a crazy person. Anyone else?!

DogsAndGin · 30/05/2022 21:10

@Tofu35 could you ask them to line you up another project? If you could get something in writing that the plan is to move you onto X in sept, they will have a very hard revoking that promise when they discover you’re pregnant, without it looking very much like discrimination. Good luck with it, I think most employers are very reasonable. I knew a women who was 8 months pregnant interview for a high responsibility role - and she go it, even though she was going on mat leave immediately.

Tofu35 · 30/05/2022 21:29

That's the hope @DogsAndGin, I've had this contract for 3 years and it took me a while to get pregnant. Very bad timing! I should be able to be redeployed to another project if my current team can't fund an extension. I need to look for a job with more security!

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 30/05/2022 21:34

A friend of mine did a scan for me but was struggling to see what was expected so I've got a scan booked this week for a transvaginal scan. DH is worrying far more than I am. Could be the dates are slightly out but nobody is sure yet

hopefulsunshine11 · 31/05/2022 02:39

Hi, I'm up again yet as can't stop coughing! Just wanted to check is it ok to eat Blackcurrant Halls Soothers? According to the packaging and online they are just made with sugar and fruit juice but there does seem to be something in the shell as when you sook the sweet it has a warming effect? Surely if it contained menthol it would say? Has anyone else had those with a cold in pregnancy? I've just had the one and now worried I shouldn't have and I know I'm going to be up all night coughing and spluttering!

Sdoubleyou · 31/05/2022 02:47

@hopefulsunshine11, I understand your concerns, we want to make sure we don't put harmful things in our bodies. But even if something is not recommended, it's veeeeeeeeerrrrrry unlikely it will do harm. I'm sure one cough drop is fine. You can sleep easy (hopefully!)

GabsK92 · 31/05/2022 04:47

@stuntbubbles fellow lawyer?

I’ve not told work yet but I’m doing so tomorrow. I feel like my work performance has seriously deteriorated so I’m almost looking forward to giving them a reason why that has been!

In other news I am hungry all the time 🤣 second trimester has turned tummy to a bottomless pit. I weirdly still get nauseous in the evenings! Anyone else?

HayleyBean · 31/05/2022 07:37

I've got my 12 week scan at 8am today! I'm so nervous but excited!

stuntbubbles · 31/05/2022 07:41

@GabsK92 Nothing so high-falutin, I’m a copywriter for a comms agency. Unfortunately my brain has dribbled out of my ears and my key skill, words, has deserted me. I’m churning out some absolute drek lately.

@HayleyBean Good luck! Early start for that much excitement!

hopefulsunshine11 · 31/05/2022 07:50

@HayleyBean Good luck!

Mommabear20 · 31/05/2022 08:10

@hopefulsunshine11 I had a full packet during my second pregnancy as had a sore throat that would not go! DS is now 10 months old and absolutely fine! Hope that helps!

OP posts:
lifechanginglemoncake · 31/05/2022 08:12

@hopefulsunshine11 I'm on the sugar free ones as it's the only thing I can have that helps (not allowed honey, anything with sugar in or any of the medicated ones) so I've decided this is the least worst option and I'm going with it.

Pinkfig · 31/05/2022 08:18

Morning ladies, hope everyone is well.

Like @HayleyBean i have my scan this morning at 10.30. Although it's a private nipt and scan not got my nhs scan for another 3 weeks. Was feeling OK about it yesterday but super nervous now.

hopefulsunshine11 · 31/05/2022 08:34

@Pinkfig Good luck!

hopefulsunshine11 · 31/05/2022 08:44

@Mommabear20 Aw really? Did it take longer for your cold to shift?
I've been sick all morning from coughing and bringing up flem, I feel awful 😢. My stomach and sides hurt from it all.

@lifechanginglemoncake how come you can't have honey, sugar etc? I didn't even know you got them! I've been eating sugar free polo's to lubricate my throat at work lol.

lifechanginglemoncake · 31/05/2022 08:48

I've only had this cold a week and I'm miserable. It's not covid so I'm counting myself lucky but I could do without the coughing fits that make me almost sick and the 'leaking' when I cough too hard. Isn't pregnancy a joy?!

I can't have anything with sugar because my Gestational Diabetes is already back. I had it with my first diagnosed at 28 weeks but I've been testing my levels for a few weeks now and they're already high if I eat sugar or too many carbs so I'm on a strict diet again. Not looking forward to this being my life until December but it has to be done for baby. Hopefully good news at the scan next week will make me feel more positive.

So sorry you've been so poorly and are feeling so awful. I think the cough sweets will be fine and if they help then go for it. Problem with the sugar free ones is you have to ration them or the sweeteners can give you a funny tummy!

Mommabear20 · 31/05/2022 08:54

@hopefulsunshine11 once I started taking them it did shift but as wasn't taking anything else it was slow going, but at least I got some relief from it periodically. If you've got it that bad, might be worth a call to your midwife or gp, and see if there's anything stronger that you can take. Hope you're feeling better soon!
