I've got a cold or something. Sore throat, dry cough and sore when I swallow 😷. I'm not sure what I can take? My colleague just gave me cough sweets but no idea if I can take them lol. I'm 12 weeks today, scan on Thursday and I'm bricking it. I keep thinking it's going to be 50/50 and there's nothing I can do about it! I just feel like I've no symptoms anymore apart from constipation lol. I had pink spotting last Wednesday but haven't had anything else since.

I feel like a fraud Googling what I can and can't take when pregnant etc when I might not even be. Anxiety has well and truly taken over my mind.

How is everyone feeling today?

lifechanginglemoncake · 24/05/2022 09:31

I've got an awful cold as well! Because I also have GD I am limited to sugar free strepsils or Halls sweets but can't have too many or they give you a funny tummy. I'm miserable. Hope you start to feel better soon. Can recommend a hot shower or steam inhalation for congestion and I think you can put a bit of olbas oil or vaporub in there.

Your chances are much better than 50/50 if you've got this far. My scan is 6 June and I'm just thinking I'm pregnant until I'm told I'm not after a scan. Doesn't always work but seems to help me.

baby2in2022 · 24/05/2022 09:42

@hopefulsunshine11 I felt exactly same last week with a headache as well. Turns out I've got covid. Definitely over the worse of it now thank god. Midwife said it's fine to take paracetamol so I've been taking a couple and it definitely helps.
Hope all goes well at your scan xx

hopefulsunshine11 · 24/05/2022 10:26

@lifechanginglemoncake @baby2in2022

Thanks ladies, I'm hoping it's not turning into Covid. Is there a risk to baby with having the virus? I've been drinking hot drinks and taking paracetamol. Will see how it goes as sometimes it's worse than others, mainly at night time. I went to take ginger and lemon tea and it said to consult GP before taking of pregnant 😬.

The reason I say 50/50 is because I had a MMC last year, I only found out because I had an early scan, if I didn't get that scan I wouldn't have known. Although I did end up bleeding naturally at 10 weeks.

Thanks for the good luck wishes x

Amphibian94 · 24/05/2022 12:07

@hopefulsunshine11 ginger and lemon tea is fine to drink like most other teas, I've been drinking it to help nausea. X

HayleyBean · 24/05/2022 12:26

@buzz91 - not quite the same but I had to have some of my cervix removed due to precancerous cells so I'm prone to premature labour. I've been referred to a gynae specialist and I've got an appointment in a few weeks. I think they'll be measuring my cervix and if it's short, they will put a stitch in it to help.

Chanel05 · 24/05/2022 12:46

@buzz91 no knowledge about them but I'm also at risk of pre-term birth as I had an emergency c-section at 10cm with my dd, so I've been offered a scan as part of my 12 week appointment to check this. I'm due to have 2 scans, 2 separate consultant appointments (1 for previous section and 1 because I have a thyroid issue) as well as the blood test. I'm going to be there all day 😂.

@hopefulsunshine11 I have a stinking cold too!! Counting down the hours until I finish work and then I need to go and mum with my toddler 😂.

buzz91 · 24/05/2022 13:08

@RSmamaa weird how it hit us at exactly the same time!

I am jealous, I just got my scan date through and it’s not for 3 weeks, I suppose the good side is it could be clearer at 13 weeks… (I don’t believe that but something to get me through the extra weeks wait!)

@HayleyBean and @Chanel05 thanks for the info, slightly different situations but useful to know what some of the measures/preventions are that they put in place!

DogsAndGin · 24/05/2022 14:24

@buzz91 I have 3 weeks til my scan too. Feels like forever! So much changes in just one week though, I will be 13+3, and I do think it’ll be clearer to see baby’s features, and hopefully their nub! Exciting!

AG96 · 24/05/2022 15:22

I also have a cold! Sore throat etc. Illness fatigue + pregnancy fatigue = unhappy me! Can't wait to finish work today

hopefulsunshine11 · 24/05/2022 15:29

@AG96 I wonder if getting a sore throat and cough etc is pregnancy related and a drop in immune system? Hope you feel better soon!

siobhanmt247 · 24/05/2022 15:52

I picked up a sore throat and cold in week 9 too. Struggling to get rid of it although it's mainly congestion now which seems to be just a pregnancy symptom

AG96 · 24/05/2022 17:34

Update on my cold... It's COVID!! Imagine dodging it for over 2 years then getting it when it's not even cool anymore! 😂 Also when I'm 12 weeks pregnant. Going to ring the midwife tomorrow but doubt they'll be able to tell me anything to do really

lifechanginglemoncake · 24/05/2022 18:20

Oh no @AG96 ! You've prompted me to test again but it looks like mine is your run of the mill nursery plague (courtesy of the toddler probably)!
Hope you start to feel better soon. I've got awful tummy cramps today which I'm hoping are just a side effect of coughing a lot and stretching but my anxiety is in overdrive.

hopefulsunshine11 · 24/05/2022 19:20

@AG96 oh no!! Hope you feel better soon and it doesn't get any worse. I took an LFT today and it was negative. Although never know if they work or not lol.

DogsAndGin · 24/05/2022 19:30

Oh @AG96 I hope you’re okay. You’ve inspired me to do a test - I also have a cold and sore throat.

Just used my last two tests - neither had enough liquid in, so I couldn’t get a result! 🥲

AG96 · 24/05/2022 19:33

@lifechanginglemoncake @hopefulsunshine11 thank you, fingers crossed I'm better soon. Just feel like I've got a bit of a temp and really achy arms. But think that's because I did hand/forearm muscle intensive work today (electronics assembly).
Going to rest and drink plenty and should be okay!

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 24/05/2022 20:52

My cold also turned out to be covid on Friday! I've not been well with it but yesterday had a frightening day where I couldn't catch my breath and was really breathing heavily. Unfortunately, there was nothing to be done unless I turned blue or my sats were very low so just get to stick it out! It is horribly unpleasant and thinking of you all

baby2in2022 · 24/05/2022 21:03

@AG96 aw hope you feel better soon. I can't believe I avoided it either just to get it when pregnant. I cannot wait to feel normal again. It's tough. The tiredness is unreal. My son has it as well but so far he's not too bad just off his food and really lethargic which makes parenting a little bit easier xx

AG96 · 25/05/2022 07:04

I'm just terrified because I ended up in hospital with pneumonia a few years ago. It was so scary and definitely gave me a fear of not being able to breathe and being hospitalised 😩 hope I can fight it. Sorry to hear so many others also poorly with COVID right now

DrummerMama · 25/05/2022 07:04

Hi all, just caught up on the past few days of the chat. Now 11+2. Hope everyone with colds and covid feels better soon 🤞🏽 I've realised I have gig tickets for next week that I forgot about. Booked them before being preggas and its a standing only show. Trying to decide if standing for a while, elbowy crowds and small spaces with potentially ill people are enough to put me off - though I'm braving Glastonbury for the first time ever next month, so I probably need to test the water. Had NIPT and a reassurance scan on Monday and little one is looking great and bouncing around. Now just the nervous wait on the test results. Also had my first midwife app yesterday and like some others have said, I wasn't prepared for how long it would take. I was so hungry! 😂

tasha4eva10 · 25/05/2022 07:17

Yes I know how you feel about the booking in appointments! I had mine at 7 weeks but because I had cancer a few years ago I had a long medical history to go over and the appointment took 3 hours!!!

Is anyone else struggling with meals at night? I'm finding I need to eat little and often to keep the sickness at bay but the last 2 nights when having my dinner it's sat heavy and left me feeling so sick for hours after

stuntbubbles · 25/05/2022 08:43

Weirdly I’m OK with meals at night! I just threw up my breakfast and throughout the day can only manage constant grazing of bland foods like crackers, then 8pm hits and I want to absolutely nail three main meals with all the vegetables. The other night I made Caesar dressing and tipped it into a bag of salad and ate the whole thing like a nose trough.

Cut to this morning and I’m miserably eating a hula hoop while dry heaving over my work laptop.

Tofu35 · 25/05/2022 09:02

@tasha4eva10 it depends on what I'm having for dinner, some things are fine but others sit for hours like lead.

@stuntbubbles the last two days I've needed to go to the office, which means sitting dry heaving in the car for 10 mins before I start driving. I'm fine after it but that 10 mins is so grim! Have you found anything that helps? Also- I had a dream about hula hoops last night, need to get some today!

Meowcat89 · 25/05/2022 09:36

I had my 12 week scan on Friday and my dates have now all caught up I was measuring exactly 12 weeks. Baby wouldn't keep still for a decent pic so my scans are slightly blurry. Got to tell work people though which makes life a little easier.

Monday I had a random bit of spotting but haven't followed it up because it didn't continue and was only on panty liner, not when wiping. Now today and yesterday I feel so rough. Nausea seems to have kicked up a notch, feeling really heavy in my uterus and so tired and blergh. Hoping it's just normal stretching and nothing more. I thought heading towards week 13 things were supposed to level out 😢
