@PinkFizz1 im 5+2 and only have tiredness and sore boobs too. I keep getting period pains though which isn't fun!

Jj19 · 21/04/2022 18:25

@Laughingmole I was convinced there would actually be no baby in there when it came to the 12 week scan. I remember being sat in the waiting room and my husband saying “I bet you’re like one of those pandas at Edinburgh Zoo that had a phantom pregnancy but actually wasn’t pregnant”. I nearly burst into tears 🙄😂

TripleMMM · 21/04/2022 18:34

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well, I also cannot stop eating.. obsessed with all butter shortbread which does not have any essential nutrients in it for our blessing 😫

Anywho, we have just got a date for the mid-wife, it’s our first child so I have no clue what happens? Can anyone fill me in?
Will they check my HCG levels? Heartbeat? I’ve been doing ok with symptoms (not complaining) but equally I do have a niggle in the back of my mind like - is everything ok?!

Main question is what happens at the first mid-wife appointment? And are results instant or do we have to wait a few days

xx

bbno2 · 21/04/2022 18:45

@TripleMMM from memory it’s basically an hour long chat about your medical history. They will either ask for or refer you for blood and urine tests. I don’t think they routinely check HCG levels in the U.K. The main aim is to decide whether you are higher risk or not and how they will lead your maternity care - either consultant or midwife lead. They might ask height, weight, any gynaecology issues you’ve had in the past, other medical conditions you have etc.

Following that if everything is fine you won’t hear anything. You’ll get referred for your 12w scan and get a letter in the post with the date (that’s how it was for me last time anyway). If they decide you need to be consultant led then you might also get a hospital consultant appt through where they ask more questions to assess what extra things might need checking during pregnancy.

I am expecting to be consultant led this time as I developed pre eclampsia last time. That was diagnosed at an extra scan at 34 weeks so I am expecting to be put forward for extra scans again.

Chanel05 · 21/04/2022 18:45

@PandaOrLion Essex here too!

bbno2 · 21/04/2022 18:46

Also meant to say, they won’t check babies heartbeat at midwife appts till at the earliest 16 weeks. And they will warn you that it’s not always able to be heard then so don’t panic if you don’t.

@Graceybaby I'm from the Isle of Wight

@Tofu35 I've just had some jacket potatoes with tuna mayo and salad. My husband usually does all the cooking and he's out tonight and I cba, so an easy dinner for me

I'm 6+1 today and no major symptoms. Boobs have stopped hurting and I had some nausea yesterday but that's passed. I did notice this morning my nipples have changed shape?!? They're almost triangular like a witches hat! Bloody weird!

littlecontis · 21/04/2022 19:00

Another one here to have lost all the cooking motivation. I just had some Thai curry and now in bed feeling sorry for myself, nausea is back!

BuchananBaby · 21/04/2022 19:14

@Tofu35 we're having chilli with garlic pizza bread, I am absolutely ravenous though 😂 today I've had 2 cereal bars, 1/2 cup of soup, a tesco meal deal and 1/2 a boost bar 🙈😂

bb226 · 21/04/2022 19:16

Hi ladies, I’d love to join this thread! I’m currently 4+4 with my first baby, due date is currently Christmas Day! Only symptoms for me so far are super sore boobs. Feel like I’m just waiting for the inevitable nausea and vomiting to start 😩

Graceybaby · 21/04/2022 19:18

Same here so we just snuck out for a cheeky nandos tonight 🤣 It was the only thing I really fancied!

Still no symptoms for me, boobs don't even feel particularly sore.. feeling convinced I'm having a boy as I feel exactly the same way I did when I was pregnant with my son but could just be a coincidence or how my body handles pregnancy! 😅

Ok so fun question... At what stage do people plan on buying their first baby item? Or has anyone even bought something already?? I think I left it quite late in my first pregnancy!

Xxx

littlecontis · 21/04/2022 19:20

@Graceybaby I think I'll start buying when I'm at the end of second trimester!

We’ve still got a lot stored in the loft from DS which I’ll have a good sort through when we find out the sex but I’ve just bid on a carrycot for our baby jogger because it’s the older model and the starting bid was £15 when they usually go for £50+. I don’t plan to get anything else until after the 20 week scan though (and I’ve convinced myself I’ve jinxed everything just by bidding on the carrycot!!)

Mommabear20 · 21/04/2022 19:42

@TripleMMM

Mommabear20 · 21/04/2022 19:50

@Graceybaby we've got nearly everything in storage from both previous DC, there's only a few bits that we need. I've already bought a blanket for the car, a 3-6 swimsuit (navy baby shark all in one with sleeves and legs so works for both), a backpack for its swimming lessons, and a sleeping bag. I feel like I've got more than that but I can't remember what 😂
I'm trying to get it all done without DH knowing so he can't hit the roof about how much it's going to cost as it'll all be done.

littlecontis · 21/04/2022 19:52

When you ladies say sore boobs, do you mind nipples? My nipples have been hard and sore but not the breasts!

bbno2 · 21/04/2022 19:54

@Graceybaby we’ve also got some bits from DD but not a huge amount. Was intending to not find out gender so will keep things neutral when we do stock up.

Last time I bought one small thing immediately after the 12 week scan, then didn’t buy much else until after 20 weeks - but we did wait for the pram to go on sale on Black Friday etc.

bbno2 · 21/04/2022 19:56

@littlecontis My boobs just feel really heavy and they ache when I walk/if I bang them. It’s not unbearable but it’s noticeable.

I’ve barely felt nauseous the last few days and have been worrying about it slightly. I really do dislike this limbo stage. 🙈

RSmamaa · 21/04/2022 19:59

@littlecontis both 😆. Mostly my nipples and under my armpits

StarveInn · 21/04/2022 19:59

@littlecontis its heavy/achy breasts for me and my nipples are really sore if anything other than my bra rubs against them (we’re on holiday this week so drying after swimming has not been fun)

BuchananBaby · 21/04/2022 20:01

@Graceybaby we didn't find out what sex DD was so all the newborn/0-3 month stuff we have is gender neutral. I think we'll wait until baby is here before we need to buy stuff probably just need feeding supplies 🙈 I'm keeping an eye out for a good second hand breast pump so would buy one tomorrow if I seen it 😂

CW2211 · 21/04/2022 20:04

So glad this thread exists! I’m new to mumsnet as well as pregnancy and would love to be able to chat to other mums or soon to be mums due in December too! I’m 6+1 today and have a private scan booked for next Wednesday at 7 weeks so fingers crossed we can see something even if just a blob! My symptoms so far have been sore boobs (feeling tender and more sensitive in general boob area, as well as having super erect nipples quite often), nauseous when I get too hungry but no vomiting yet, and period like cramping daily! Also when I sneeze sometimes it really hurts in my lower stomach and I get general pains which I assume are round ligament pains. Congrats everyone and I can’t wait to chat to you all and hear all about your journeys!

baby2in2022 · 21/04/2022 20:25

@bb226 welcome and congrats. You might be lucky and not get any symptoms. Fingers crossed

@Graceybaby we didn't find out the sex last time and won't this time so I have neutral newborn outfits. Will just get a couple of new ones for this baby. My son is a May baby so will need some winter bits. Might need a double pram but my sister in law said we can use hers. It was great having a May baby as could take advantage of Black Friday and January sales x

bb226 · 21/04/2022 20:36

@CW2211 welcome ☺️

@littlecontis I’m the opposite, my nipples are fine but the boobs themselves are achey and tender to touch

@Graceybaby I think we’ll start buying once we’ve found out the gender after a private 16 week scan

TripleMMM · 21/04/2022 20:38

Thanks so much, just seen your response and it’s super helpful xx
