@miasparkle is there any chance you could work from home some days? Flexible location? First trimester is a crummy time to start a new job, but as you say, the maternity package would be useful.
I'm not sure because it's a recruitment consultant. I wish I could but I'm on trial for 3 months and I can't really be asking to work from home. I'm gonna be on training

MiaSparkle · 18/04/2022 17:17
@MiaSparkle so sorry you’re feeling so rough. It may be worth checking the maternity pay policy first. As I know you have to have been in your job for a certain amount of time when you hit 25 weeks to qualify. So if you won’t qualify anyway might as well stay at home and rest. Apologies if you have already checked xx
I don't even have a contract in writing so I can't check. So no I haven't checked it unfortunately but I just hope the second trimester is better xx

Winnie2022 · 18/04/2022 17:20

Hi Everyone. How is everyone? I have just reached 6 weeks and my symptoms have really hit. Nausea, no appetite, exhausted, moods…. Anyone else?
Only me and my husband know. Dying to tell my mum but trying to wait until 12 weeks

lovesT · 18/04/2022 17:35

I saw someone said they like baby scans so here's a photo 😄 looks like a baby dinosaur 🦖

RoddyRoo · 18/04/2022 18:24

Hello everyone!
I can’t say how happy I am to finally be on a thread like this having spent the last year or so on IVF threads. I am 5 weeks pregnant with a naturally conceived bubba after 3 years of trying and 2 failed IVF attempts - to say I’m surprised, shocked and happy is an understatement!
NHS app says my due date is 17th December.
So far I am exhausted, a bit nauseous but I didn’t realise it was pregnancy related and now I’m probably over thinking everything!
Anyway, thanks for having me. I hope you’re all well x

PinkFizz1 · 18/04/2022 18:28

@embob993 @lovesT FANTASTIC news for both of you! I’m so happy for yous 🙏🏼🥰 love the wee scan pics too.

@lovesT you’re just down the road from me!

MrsCrumbtious · 18/04/2022 18:40

Are any of you experiencing lower back pain? This has been the one symptom I’ve had consistently (though it comes and goes) really need to stop doom scrolling I’m a bit of an anxious mess 😩

RoseGold24 · 18/04/2022 18:47

Great news @RoddyRoo congratulations!

lovesT · 18/04/2022 18:59

@PinkFizz1 that's cool! Where will you be giving birth? I can't remember is this your first? We've only recently moved this way x

lovesT · 18/04/2022 19:00

@MrsCrumbtious I've had a little bit especially earlier on, how far along are you and how painful is it? I'd say some back pain is normal, lots of stretching going on x

Whilstwewait · 18/04/2022 19:02

@RoddyRoo amazing congratulations. I love hearing stories like yours. Such an extra special time for you.

@mrscrumbtious I had a lot of back and stomach cramps with my little boy. I like to think it’s the embryo getting all snug xx

MrsCrumbtious · 18/04/2022 19:13

@lovesT I’m 5+1 it’s not painful it’s more of a niggling ache but not had any bleeding/cramping so hoping it’s normal 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

embob993 · 18/04/2022 19:13

@lovest aghh congratulations!!! I've been thinking of you and your results ❤😊

RSmamaa · 18/04/2022 19:17

@MiaSparkle see how you feel in the morning I guess? You can't help being poorly. My other suggestion is getting a sick note

RSmamaa · 18/04/2022 19:21

@lovesT lovely pics congrats 🥰

@RoddyRoo amazing you conceived naturally congratulations. So lovely to hear that miracles do really happen xx

lovesT · 18/04/2022 19:25

@MrsCrumbtious for that early that sounds normal, I'm sure I had that with my daughter and this pregnancy (have apparently already forgotten 2 weeks ago 😅) but I wouldn't worry. Your muscles are having to do a lot to prepare for growing X

@embob993 thanks!! So pleased we both had positive news! ❤️

embob993 · 18/04/2022 19:26

@MiaSparkle I'm so sorry to hear how rubbish you're feeling! What a stressful situation you must be in. I guess all you can do is see how you feel tomorrow but you really cannot help being unwell. I'd tell them your situation because by law they should be able to make reasonable adjustments. It'd be worth looking into their sick policy if you can and if its protected by pregnancy related illness. I'm sorry if I've missed any other comments saying the same thing but are you on any anti sickness or anything from your gp?

Melusina123 · 18/04/2022 19:33

@BuchananBaby Thank you! That's good advice about being happy today regardless of tomorrow. I wish I was better at that. Hope your scan goes well Saturday!

@RoseGold24 So funny that you also went to the dentist at 2DPO - hope I didn't freak you out about it - the internet is pretty clear that this type of xray has no impact on pregnancy, I just got wound up because of one website saying something about pre-implantation and felt like an idiot for not vetoing the xray. And yeah, the hospital was really terrible. Fortunately my GP, who I spoke to the next day, was great. It's just such a lottery - there are some wonderful medical professionals and then some horrible, invalidating ones.

@Whilstwewait yes, taking it one day at a time! It's been nice to be home for a long weekend while we wrap our heads around the news, but work will probably be a useful distraction tomorrow. (I say this now, largely symptom free; I'm sure I'll change my tune in a couple of weeks!!)

Thanks to anyone else who replied as well. I was on the edge of a meltdown this morning, clearly!

Can I ask, how is everyone picking a maternity hospital? Is it just your nearest, or are you weighing up other things like patient scores, rates of interventions, etc?

PinkFizz1 · 18/04/2022 19:35

@lovesT yeah it’s my first, I’m plagued with anxiety though that it’s not going to stick for some reason - I’ve never been pregnant or had losses before so I’m not sure where the anxiety has come from! I’m still trying to decide where to give birth, I have a few options. What about you? X

BuchananBaby · 18/04/2022 19:50

Well baby brain has hit me like a tonne of bricks just made us a full roast was so proud of myself (I don't really cook) and realised when I plated it all up I didn't make any kind of potatoes 🤦‍♀️ was still nice but I missed a wee roastie 🙈

FlowerJ · 18/04/2022 19:52

@embob993 Yey so pleased for you! What does that put your due date as? I'm in a similar situation, I think I'm 8+1 today but my cycle lengths vary so much that I've currently got a due date of anywhere between 28th-1st Dec so I'm currently in this group and a Dec group until i get confirmation lol

@Mommabear20 Glad you are getting sorted with some medication, hope it helps!

@lovesT So pleased everything went well! 😀🥰

@BuchananBaby Thank you lovely, I feel much better now compared to this morning.

@Sdoubleyou Happy Birthday 🥰🎈🎁

Nejnej · 18/04/2022 19:57

@Melusina123 I've got about 3 hospitals similar-ish distance away to choose from. I've gone for the one (slightly) further away because I've worked on the neonatal unit there and know it's a fantastic team. I'll also be working back there from May so it should make scans/appointments easier.

Not helpful for you making a decision I know! I'd look at patient scores, but probably not intervention rates personally as it's all individual anyway!

Chanel05 · 18/04/2022 20:07

@Melusina123 I chose my closest hospital with my dd, despite the fact maternity services were rated "inadequate". Huge mistake. I've changed hospitals this time!

embob993 · 18/04/2022 20:07

@flowerj my due date is 27th November now 😊 its crazy how they can work it out from a scan measurement! I'll probably carry after that though as both of our side have had late baby births and were both tall (more growing required) xx

BuchananBaby · 18/04/2022 20:10

@embob993 you never know! Both our sides were always late and were both tall and my daughter was 2 weeks early 🙈😂 she's really tall aswell but she was only 6lbs 5 with a small head thank goodness 😖😂
