New thread - because I'm badly procrastinating with actual work today 😆

Hey all,

So had my 20 week scan almost 3 weeks ago, they couldn't get all measurements. Went back and she's in an awful position again and it creates too many shadows.
So the only measurements missing are from the heart and they take 6, we only got 4 plus they video'd the heartbeat.

They said they can't keep bringing me back..so no more scans to get the last measurements but only 2 out of 6 are missing so they think all is OK.
What are your thoughts?

Anyone had any problems with sciatica type pain and know of any good stretches for it? Had it for a couple of weeks now and it is so painful. I was going to yoga but the classes have been off just now due to them not being busy enough 😭

madeleine85 · 05/04/2022 18:56

I am having pretty bad sciatica @Gem2811. I just started the peloton app pregnatal yoga classes today and found a 10 minute one that really stretched out my hips which was sore at the time, but amazing now. They sometimes do free month trials etc, i'd recommend it as they had a big range of classes for pre and post natal, and selection of length of classes. I also have been seeing a chiropractor which is really helping (but haven't gone in 2 weeks so the pain was definitely back today)

positivevibes22 · 05/04/2022 19:46

I'm doing pregnancy yoga from theLet’s Talk Birth & Baby's website @Gem2811. It's on Sundays from 6pm, for 1 hour and it's for free. You need to book it in advance though. They have one more free class, Labour & Birth Part 1. I recommend it, it's really nice.

LiMc1 · 05/04/2022 20:02

Thank you all for the recommendations, I have had so many rubbish bits online so was hoping for inspiration... and something cheap. Gonna have a look on Ebay I think as I'm going to struggle in summer at work!

Tiredmum31111 · 05/04/2022 20:39

Hi guys, I briefly popped on the last thread but life has been so busy the weeks are just flying by. Glad most people seem to be having some lovely 20 week scans :) Mines on Friday!

Clothes wise I tend to buy mine second hand. I bought a maternity bundle from eBay and then I've been looking in Vinted and think I'll get some bits from there good value second hand stuff. In the grand scheme of things they are all pretty much new because you don't wear them for very long.

Feel like leggings/tights and a dress are a good go too now.

Isonthecase · 05/04/2022 22:40

@limc1 I gave a few oversized t shirt dresses from places like ASOS in the sale. Was also lucky enough to be given a fair few bits in this and previous pregnancies by people who were having a clear out, could you ask around friends if anyone is getting rid of it? Once you find something you like just buy more on eBay and you'll save a fortune. I also love my gap bits, bought in a very good sale because I resent spending more on maternity clothes than normal ones 🙈

Isonthecase · 05/04/2022 22:41

And if anyone has found some nice bump support cycle style shorts let me know! I plan to live in them this summer when I finally find some

Gem2811 · 06/04/2022 07:11

Thank you @positivevibes22 @madeleine85 I think I will just need to grin and bear it until my yoga class starts again unfortunately I've got a needy German shepherd that would not make yoga in the house an enjoyable experience 😂

ToCaden · 06/04/2022 07:49

@Gem2811 Grin my mother is into yoga, and some of her dog's worried or playful reactions to her exercise routine were hilarious.

SantiagoSister · 06/04/2022 08:18

@Isonthecase I’m not too sure if they are bump-supporting or not, but I ordered a 2 pack of cycling shorts from George last week that had great reviews. I tried them on and they were super comfortable so I’ve kept them for the warmer weather 🤞🏼

👋🏽 @Gem2811, fellow shepherder here! They’re certainly a breed of their own aren’t they, there’s absolutely no way any home exercise could take place around him either 😂

Gem2811 · 06/04/2022 08:46

@ToCaden @SantiagoSister honestly as soon as you sit on the floor you have all 40kgs of him in your lap and his favourite is to wait until you can't defend yourself and lick your face to death 😂 defo the biggest lap dogs you can find 😂😂

ToCaden · 06/04/2022 09:54

Not sure if I'm noticing it more some days, but I have days when I feel huge. I'm starting to get a small inbuilt bump shelf. Unsure how useful this new feature will be.

PopGoesBang · 06/04/2022 10:01

@Unknown6 I'm back tomorrow for a rescan as couldn't get all the heart or kidney ones at the 20 week scan. Have a chat with your midwife she may be able to reassure you?
The lady doing the scan 2 weeks ago said she'd seen everything with the heart and was happy but just couldn't get the measurements and again with the kidneys she said because the was fluid in the stomach and around baby that they must be working but again couldn't get the measurements.
She also said that with the brain measurements being ok it was a good indication that everything was as it should be, as apparently that can be quite telling?

I'm in a slight more fortunate position in that I have growth scans already booked in going forward, so I assume if tomorrow baby doesn't play ball again they can have a quick check at future scans - I'm not sure.

But if I were you I'd talk to midwives. I imagine this happens far more frequently than we know. And I would also assume if they had any concerns they would get you back.

Sorry it's worrying you, and hope you get some reassurance soon

Beth262 · 06/04/2022 10:06

@Unknown6 I'm sorry they couldn't get all the measurements again this time around. You have a very strong willed baby in there! I think if the hospital are happy that 4 of the 6 measurements appear to suggest all is ok then I'm sure they will be. If they were concerned they'd be making sure they got you back in again but I can completely understand your worries. They're experienced in thier assessments seeing it day in day out so try to focus on the positives of that x

Mufflette · 06/04/2022 10:17

@Unknown6 the sonographer said to us yesterday that they've recently been asked to take way more heart measurements and they're super tricky to get due to movement - so it may well be that they're happy because they've previously been used to confirming everything is fine with fewer measurements, my sonographer seemed to feel the number they have to take is excessive.

Unknown6 · 06/04/2022 10:36

You have all made me feel better. Everyone said it looks OK so I'm going to take that positive stance.

miltonj · 06/04/2022 10:59

@makingabebe

Hey *@positivevibes22 yes we are due date twins! 9th August for me too. Will look into hypnobirthing, thanks for the tip! Hey @netflixandnochill and hey @squatternutbosh12* thanks for the reassurance and sorry to hear about your sickness, that's really rubbish and hope you get some relief soon. A few weeks ago I went through a phase where my stomach decided it couldn't stand the taste of toothpaste so I threw up a couple of times while brushing my teeth ... grim!

Also, on the topic of low placentas, mine is also low and so have extra scans booked in (due to that but also my ethnicity) and my placenta is also anterior, am absolutely craving to feel baby from outside. @surprised12 I'm sure your baby is fine, at my 20-week scan baby was spinning, kicking etc. and it's so weird that I can't feel them! But was so reassuring to see. My bump has also properly popped only now really, 22 weeks.

Am going on holiday to Lanzarote next week and kind of scared about flying during a pandemic while pregnant ... but haven't been abroad since March 2019 and really need to feel some sun, very tired and fed up of the cold/rain, and figure it's our last chance to properly relax for a while.

Hi I flew yesterday! But actually found it easier than usual, had toddler with me and am visibly pregnant, so fast tracked for queues and treated well by staff. I would suggest wearing something to make your bump obvious! Might as well get some perks of pregnancy! I was on my own so was knackered by the end of the day. So make sure you have plenty to drink as well.
Sanak5 · 06/04/2022 11:52

Hello, everyone! I've been reading this thread since December and have now found the confidence to join! I'm 19 weeks and 2 days pregnant today, and I can't believe how quickly time is passing and that I'm almost halfway through my first pregnancy!! I have a 20-week scan coming up on Tuesday, do you have to have a full bladder this time? My letter didn't include anything about drinking water before the visit, and neither did the 12-week scan letter, in fact, it was my midwife who advised me to go to the first appointment with a full bladder.

CoalCraft · 06/04/2022 12:18

@Sanak5 Hi, welcome! Yes, ideally you should have a full bladder for the 20 week scan. Surprised it wasn't mentioned on your letter as my had in bold a d capital letters! And they rang me the day before to reiterate it too.

Sanak5 · 06/04/2022 12:32

Hey @CoalCraft, thank you! It is odd how they haven’t stated anything in the letter, and the sonographer seemed a bit annoyed that I didn’t drink enough water last time 😭 This time I’m making sure I drink double the amount of fluids!!

ToCaden · 06/04/2022 13:02

@Sanak5 and give it enough time to reach your bladder. So drink the amount you need around an hour before scan.

A lot of people drink too much and are bursting. So you might need to tweak based on last time to get best result. For me around a glass and a half, an hour before, then just sipping up to the time works. It's full enough they get a good image (when baby isn't being a stubborn little thing and hiding under my belly button) but you're also not bursting, particularly if baby decides to huddle down low and they need to put pressure with wand to see them.

Must be different for different trusts, I was told no full bladder and have something sugary about 20mins before, my letter also says A full bladder is required for an scans due between 12 and 14 weeks, for these scans please drink approximately one pint of water before leaving home.

My 20 week scan is Monday.

How is everyone feeling?

Anterior placenta buddies, can anyone else feel like pops down near your cervix? Assuming due to the anterior why I'm only really feeling movement there 😞 x

CoalCraft · 06/04/2022 16:08

@Shelly1812

How strange that it's so different! The sonographer actually praised me on having such a full bladder so it definitely wasn't just something they put on the letter for the sake of it!

I have a posterior placenta and can feel baby all over when lying down, but when sitting up like at my desk I only feel her very low, basically just above the public bone, and it does feel just like pops. An guessing you are around 19/20 weeks? If so, that's still quite early to be feeling movements, especially with an anterior placenta, do you are doing well!

madeleine85 · 06/04/2022 16:54

@Gem2811 dogs are so funny. Mine generally leaves me to work out unless I am on my back and then it is a GAME. As an easier maybe fix, i've heard that sleeping with a pillow between your legs can help. It supposedly helps relieve tension from your lower back. At this point, i'll try it all :)
