I like:
Thomas
George
Toby

but dh doesn't

Dh likes:
Cassius
Montgomery
Edmund
Rupert
all of which I think are ridiculous and will lead to ds2 being laughed at in the playground

Names we both vaguely think are OK, but are very much a compromise:
Douglas
Fergus
Edward
Dominic

Names we both like but cannot have because they are taken by famiy members or clash with our surname:
Freddie
Henry
William
James
Christian/Christopher
Sebastian
Matthew
Hugh
David

There must be some good, ordinary names we are missing? I don't like anything too biblical or popular (Zach, Oliver, Oscar, Archie, Jake, etc are not my cup of tea).

Also cannot be Robin for complicated reasons, even though this is the only name acceptable to MIL.

Could you compromise by having your choice as a first name and his as the middle name.
I quite like Thomas Montgomery [your surname], for what it's worth

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2008 21:16

I should have a baby with your DH, as i think he has excellent taste in names. You, however should have a baby with my DH

Wait untill the baby is born - then you'll know what suits him.

lovecamping · 02/01/2008 21:17

Patrick??

Washersaurus · 02/01/2008 21:18

I have a George, a name which DH didn't like at all. When it came to it though he admitted DS2 did actually look like a George.

I am warming to the name Edmund at the moment, I think it will be on its way back up the name popularity charts.

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2008 21:18

Theo
Bruce
Hugo
Ted - short for Edward

?

Washersaurus · 02/01/2008 21:19

How about Harvey?

SSSandy2 · 02/01/2008 21:22

I'm with you 100% when it comes to your dh's choices. Not keen on Toby either really. Personally, I like Dominic the best.

Quite like Alistair and I like the name Damian too.

MrsEi25 · 02/01/2008 21:22

you can call an edmund or an edward ned for everyday... which is lovely i think....

Meeely2 · 02/01/2008 21:26

we have twin boys, Edward and Arthur - when they were born (at 29 weeks), Edward was defo an edward, but arthur was on a ventilator for a week and i didn't want to name him without seeing his face, when he came off it he couldn't have been anything other than Arthur, although now we call him Arfa!

I also liked, Ewan, Rohan but i had more girls names than boys when i was pregs.

dooley1 · 02/01/2008 21:27

Edward Toby is nice

controlfreakyhohohohohohoho · 02/01/2008 21:27

.... or an edwin....

dooley1 · 02/01/2008 21:27

oh Edward and Arthur are such great names for twins

hermionegrangerat34 · 02/01/2008 21:29

I've got one of yours!
Don't like the others though...think your dh's first two are awful, but Edmund and Rupert quite nice. Dominic good, also Fergus. Second Theo and Hugo as possibilities (both on my list!). What about Noah/Oscar?

SSSandy2 · 02/01/2008 21:30

Mind you if Muffin's dh has :
Cassius
Montgomery
Edmund
Rupert

down as his favourites, I think we need to look for something a bit more in that direction if he's to go along with it. Haven't quite put my finger on what that direction is yet but obviously something more unusual. Rupert I think really not. Cassius I don't know about. Would depend on the dc, you COULD carry it off. Edmund is ok really but I wouldn't choose it.

berolina · 02/01/2008 21:32

I actually like Montgomery. Can be shortened to Monty which is nice and quite cool, IMO. Thomas is lovely though.

joseph (joe) is a great name but then I am biased

liking george at the minute and ds2 will either be called george or henry....really cant decide at the minute.....

get together a short list and then wait until your little man is born so you can see what suits him.....

Washersaurus · 02/01/2008 21:38

Running through some family names:

Paul
Simon
James
Edward
Charles
Stanley
Dylan
Arthur
George
Francis

hatwoman · 02/01/2008 21:40

Edmund is the only one of your dh's I'd consider at all. the others are awful! I like all yours. Of your compromises I like Edward and Dominic.

Other suggestions

Alistair (mine and dh's boys' name, except we never had a boy)
Arthur
Albert
Alfred
Harry
Don
Matthew
Richard
Jon (athon)
Ralph
Julius (not sure I like it but might appeal to your dh)

dooley1 · 02/01/2008 21:41

ooh what about jake/jacob?

ingles2 · 02/01/2008 21:41

How about Augustus instead of Fergus?...We have one of those but he is only ever called Gus.
We've also got a Kit which I think can be a version of Christopher.
