I like:
Thomas
George
Toby

but dh doesn't

Dh likes:
Cassius
Montgomery
Edmund
Rupert
all of which I think are ridiculous and will lead to ds2 being laughed at in the playground

Names we both vaguely think are OK, but are very much a compromise:
Douglas
Fergus
Edward
Dominic

Names we both like but cannot have because they are taken by famiy members or clash with our surname:
Freddie
Henry
William
James
Christian/Christopher
Sebastian
Matthew
Hugh
David

There must be some good, ordinary names we are missing? I don't like anything too biblical or popular (Zach, Oliver, Oscar, Archie, Jake, etc are not my cup of tea).

Also cannot be Robin for complicated reasons, even though this is the only name acceptable to MIL.

I like (and DS's names are in there too)

Benedict
Harry
Thomas
Edwin
Edward
Edmund
Rory
William
Joseph
Patrick

DH wanted Alban for DS2 (after he had been born and we'd told everyone his name).

Buckets · 05/01/2008 11:05

Boys names are so hard! We have settled on the only name neither of us don't hate which is Kurt. DH's condition is that I must tell everyone we meet "as in Vonnegut not Cobain" .
Unbelievably we actually have 6 girls names which we both don't hate.

LynetteScavo · 05/01/2008 11:10

Bruce? I like Bruce.

Timothy?

dancerandprancer · 05/01/2008 11:23

Alex

Luca
Mason
Harrison

josey · 05/01/2008 15:05

DS1 is Kyle, if DD was a DS she would have been Ryan, and DC3 if a boy at he moment we are thinking on Zander (Alexander in the BC though)

Good luck names are always a nightmare everything I like my DH hate V/V

ingles2 · 06/01/2008 13:29

Still thinking about this....

Julian ? As in the gorgeous Rhind Tutt... phooor...
or
Lucian

inthegutter · 06/01/2008 13:42

Jacob
Lucien
Fabian
Theo (dore)
Samuel
Benedict
Art (hur)
Tobias
Lucas

Buckets · 06/01/2008 15:06

I quite like Lucius (as in Malfoy) - is that a real name?

inthegutter · 06/01/2008 15:35

I don't know - I think JK Rowling had a habit of taking the root of a 'proper' name and then changing it slightly, which is really fascinating when you look at the roots and see the derivation. She's one sharp cookie - some VERY funny/ironic twists!

Coby · 07/01/2008 10:41

yer, 'tis a real name. I knew a lucius long before J K made it more commonly known. There is also Lucian (already mentioned I think). One of my DDs is Luthien which is taken from Tolkein, now he really was one for understanding the English language and its roots. Not that I'm saying Rowling doesn't

sambrads · 07/01/2008 15:22

lucas defo

Broodymumof2 · 07/01/2008 15:36

I posted some gaelic/irish names i liked on the names insperation post!! there are some others on there too...good luck.

YummersBrandyAndMincePies · 07/01/2008 15:38

we had this problem when we were convinced dd would be a boy!

like yours, my dp was all for the more 'out there' names. also a load of names i like are taken up by family already:

James
George
William
Peter
Sebastian
Benjamin
Joseph (although dp suggested this one after his grandad)

i also like:
Alexander (but then i like Alexandra for a girl and we couldn't have both!)
Dylan (although i've subsequently gone off this as a load of not very nice kids have this name nowadays)
