Has anyone else felt like the nhs ultrasound appointments are much quicker than they were pre covid? I ask as I'm sure my previous pregnancy they took much more time to get measurements and look at baby than they are now. Which, in my area of England, is resulting in so many women being rebooked for scans.

Had a call today to book my anomaly scan, 19th May. Glad that's sorted. Is anyone having any issues not feeling 'connected' or ' bonded' to their pregnancy. Like, afraid to feel?

OhLookCriedNed · 13/05/2022 08:44

@Pandabuggle You're not wrong. When I went for my 12 week scan I was in and out in under 5 minutes. Barely got a chance to look at the screen, and the sonographer didn't give us any of the information that I got last time. Completely different experience to my first baby, even though that scan was smack bang in the middle of the pandemic. I've got my anomaly scan on the 19th too, so will see if it's any different.

Pinktruffle · 13/05/2022 11:44

I had my anomaly scan last week and the sonographer was great. It was very early though, I was only 17 weeks. She said the baby looks really healthy. I have had a letter for a third scan which I'm a bit confused about. It's at the end of the month. The letter is just a routine one but I didn't think I would get another scan. I wonder if it's because of my age? I'm 39 tomorrow. Anyone else had a surprise scan?

Pandabuggle · 13/05/2022 14:20

@Pinktruffle I wonder if they've rebooked you for the anomaly scan as you were a tad early? Might be they need a bit more growth to get some more accurate measurements. Has your midwife mentioned extra scans due to age? I'll be getting growth scans due to my 'bmi' I think I'd rather they just say cos I'm fat cos BMI is such an outdated and incorrect way to determine someone's overall health.

Pinktruffle · 13/05/2022 15:05

@Pandabuggle hmm that is possible but I don't think so. The sonographer said everything looked great and she got what she needed, and that though it was a little early, she could see everything she needed to see but just needed to work a bit harder to find it.

I guess there is only a couple of weeks to wait and then I can ask. Hopefully there is nothing wrong as she said everything looked perfect.

Totally agree on the BMI thing, it is a terrible way to decide if someone is healthy, it doesnt take in to account things like genetics.

addler · 13/05/2022 18:44

I'm on the growth scans for BMI too. I didn't mind first time around as it meant I got to see baby more often! But this time it's just more difficult to arrange childcare for DS, as well as for all the extra consultant appointments (hello 2 GTTs Angry)

16 weeks now and no movements yet, but I've been feeling phantom kicks since DS turned 1 and I started getting broody again... so who knows if I can even tell the difference?!

We're off to my home country for a month so my parents can finally meet DS, I have to have my 20 week scan out there and then send the report back to the NHS.

emmajane90 · 14/05/2022 22:45

The heat today has absolutely killed me off 🥵 can't believe how uncomfortable I've found it when I'm only 19+2! God help me in August when I'm 7 months gone 😭

JoeMalon3y · 16/05/2022 09:49

Hi everyone!
Hope you're all keeping well :)
Can I ask what to expect at the 20week scan, mine is coming up next week so I'm starting to get a little bit nervous, we found out we are having a boy at a private gender scan last week which was interesting...I also knew deep down he would be a boy but still kept my hopes up for a girl!

I'm also curious about this, got mine on Thursday. I'm the same as you, had a private gender scan at 16 weeks and been told we're having a girl. FTM so absolutely no idea what to expect during the 20 week appointment.

ploopypleepy · 16/05/2022 19:55

@emmajane90 @JoeMalon3y at the 20 week scan they will check and measure things like head circumference, stomach, kidneys, bladder, have a look at the heart chambers and both sides of the brain. And measure femur length ! Think they also check to see if the skin is completely covering the spine too!! Hope this helps x

Thanks lovely!

Does anyone know when vaccines/blood tests are typically done? Other than my initial blood tests at my booking appointment I haven't had anything else, unsure if that's normal?

Smarsh32 · 17/05/2022 08:59

Morning everyone, hope everyone is getting on OK. - we have our 20 week scan tomorrow and I just feel so nervous for some reason!! I will be 19 weeks 5 days tomorrow and we have had so so many scans due to IVF and bleeds and then a private gender scan a couple weeks ago and I still feel so nervous, it's driving me crazy!! Have felt little movements (I think that's what they are - have never been pregnant before this) but I just cant stop worrying!xx

PoopMaster · 17/05/2022 15:43

Good luck for tomorrow @Smarsh32!

We had our 20 week scan last week, unfortunately our baby boy has excess fluid around the middle so we had an amnio to see if we can work out why and help him. First results have come back clear (T21/T18/T13) so still no idea if it's genetic/heart related. We have more appointments next week to see what's happening. It's going to be a long wait to see how things go.

I also found out I have an anterior placenta which explains why he feels a bit less punchy than his sisters (though still quite the wriggler!) I really hope they'll be able to feel him move soon from the outside as it's a worrying time and would help everyone else know he's hanging in there.

PoopMaster · 17/05/2022 15:44

I'm not sure if it's the new Mumsnet update but any posts that quote another post seem to get cut short after 2 or 3 lines...so I can't see everyone's latest posts in full (on the app)

Pinktruffle · 17/05/2022 15:55

I hope you're doing ok @PoopMaster, I can imagine this is a worrying time for you not knowing. Hopefully baby boy will be ok and it's nothing serious.

We are mid moving house, I only managed to help for half a day today. I'm meant to be packing but in shattered. Time to pick my son up from nursery soon, I really should motivate myself to do a little bit of packing.

PoopMaster · 17/05/2022 15:58

Oh no @Pinktruffle packing is such a chore at the best of times, you will be tired anyway! Just do what you can and leave it there. If nothing else the past few days has made me appreciate even more what life-support machines we are for our little ones, so look after yourself first and ask for help.

Smarsh32 · 17/05/2022 18:43

@PoopMaster thank you! Oh I hope that they can find out what it is and help him. Hopefully everything is ok and you feel him lots soon!Xx

Smarsh32 · 18/05/2022 19:26

Hey all, hope you are all OK. Just an update that the scan was all good, we have to go back next Tuesday as she wouldn't move in to the position where they could check the skin around the spine properly, but the sonographer said he was sure she is OK but wanted us to come back for another just in case. We also found out that because its an IVF pregnancy, we have to have growth scans too, so will get extra scans which I am so happy about as I am such a flapper!. My placenta is right in front on my tummy so I thinks it's cushioning her kicks too at the moment. Hope everyone else is OK xx

Pinktruffle · 18/05/2022 20:09

@Smarsh32 that's interesting. My previous pregnancy was an IVF pregnancy and I didn't get any extra scans, I ended up doing a couple of private ones as I was very anxious throughout the pregnancy. Glad you are getting extra ones through the NHS, I hope it helps reassure you.

Smarsh32 · 18/05/2022 20:13

@Pinktruffle well, I didn't expect it as the midwife told me we weren't high risk, but we had a consultant appointment straight after the scan and they want to do extra scans. I have no other high risk reasons! Thank you xx

KelpCake · 19/05/2022 16:58

Hope everyone who was having them's scans went well today.

Still haven't gotten a date for mine yet!

Pandabuggle · 19/05/2022 21:13

@KelpCake might be worth giving them a call and reprompting them.

Had mine today, gotta go back 13th June as couldn't get all measurements again. And didn't get a good enough view to confirm sex of baby, though she thinks boy. Feel like I'm destined to never have a daughter, lost hope and cried my eyes out most of the afternoon. I'll get over it, bub looks healthy, that's the main thing but probably won't have a name for a few weeks after birth as I have no names lol

ThinkingDifferent · 20/05/2022 07:08

Hi everyone, so excited to find & join this large group. Has anyone else done any shopping? as I just couldn't resist and feel like I've bought loads already.

Smarsh32 · 20/05/2022 07:18

@ThinkingDifferent welcome! Hope you are ok. Yes we have literally everything except a couple bits lol. We are too excited.. as are our parents lol!!xx

KelpCake · 20/05/2022 08:13

@Pandabuggle Ohh no I'm so sorry! Gender disappointment is real. Give yourself some time with this, I'm sure when the baby comes you'll love them just how they are.

Also struggling with names here! Boy names are difficult too, because there feels like less options, somehow.

For my scan, I think my problem is they're super busy here, and I only arrived at the midwife quite late as I was on holiday so they're struggling to fit me in... They actually sent me quite far out for my dating scan! I'm seeing the midwife next week so hoping she'll be able to find me an appointment somewhere.
