Uch, busy family weekend with a horrible cough/cold and I even managed to fall down the stairs 🤦 (only bumped my back and arm, no real damage done). Knackered now!

Feeling a bit low and pessimistic about the pregnancy really as had quite a big bleed (compared to previous ones I've had, still a tiny amount of blood really) on Saturday after having no bleeding for about a week. Trying to tell myself it's all just from my cervix but I really just have no idea. If it happens again I'll ring the epu, though I'm sure they must be sick of me by now!

It just all feels like a bit of a slog atm. Still so impatient for my scan (10 days) and time is absolutely crawling, but there's a part of me that's starting to feel confident it'll be bad news when I get there. I really wish DH was able to come with me but we have no other childcare that day Sad

Sorry to be so negative. I promise I'll perk up after this bloody scan (all being well). I hope everyone here is doing okay. @Cakecakecheese good luck today!

notsofertilemyrtle · 07/02/2022 12:19

It sounds like you've had a rough time @CoalCraft and it's so normal to feel really up and down emotionally. I've had a terrible headspace last few days but it's clearing now. Not that I've done anything to clear it! Must be hormonal.

Can anyone help with this annoying form of morning sickness? I don't have as bad nausea but I gag or suppress a gag CONSTANTLY. I've spent a few minutes over the loo waiting to just be sick but no. Just heaving and streaming eyes. Loads of gross tasting saliva all day and night. It's driving me mad as I don't actually feel nauseous really. Just like I could gag or heave constantly. Anyone else?

PopGoesBang · 07/02/2022 12:59

@CoalCraft 💐 for you. It's such a stressful time without added worries and time taking even longer than normal to get to dates like scans. I hope you are able to take it a little easy now and be kind to yourself. Know that won't help with the worry.

@notsofertilemyrtle I know with HG I find I have an awful excess of saliva and this can trigger me urging a lot. The old having a boiled sweet helps sometimes. I find it give the saliva something to do. Other than that I'm not much help, 9/10 times my urging turns into full vomiting and is my warning to get somewhere I can.
Hope you feel better soon and it settles down.

notsofertilemyrtle · 07/02/2022 13:08

@PopGoesBang hats off to you for getting g through HG. I honestly can't imagine how hard it is, when I'm definitely suffering on the mild end of the scale. I really hope yours goes ASAP!

I think I need to stock up on sweets. Sugar-free Werther's have been good as they're a bit salty,..sounds weird but definitely help with the taste. I have some lemon sherbets from early weeks, off to find them!!

PopGoesBang · 07/02/2022 13:13

@notsofertilemyrtle you'd have thought I learnt last time! Left it 9 years and it's twice as bad 🤣 I've found some good meds that mean my days are far better than they were or could be without, and for that I am grateful. And we all get things to deal with, this is just mine.
Hope the sweets help, and that it passes quickly for you. Flat lemonade or coke can be good too (all my solutions seem to involve sugar of some kind!)

notsofertilemyrtle · 07/02/2022 13:24

Ah you're brave doing it again! Glad you've got more control with it this time via meds. What an experience! I'm a first time mum, everyone says it's absolutely worth it ❤️ which I've no doubt about!

Yeah, sugary things definitely take the edge off. Ice cold Vimto is the other of today. I'm usually on plain old water but that seems to taste absolutely awful at the moment.

PopGoesBang · 07/02/2022 13:47

@notsofertilemyrtle it is 100% worth it. Best journey you'll ever take part in. Totally some hair pulling out moments, and you aren't human if you don't have the occasional 'what have we done' moments too!

I think the sugar/flavoured things take the weird taste away. We can get so sensitive to smells and tastes sometimes we just need something 'nice' that masks it.

Also make sure you aren't going too long between having something to eat, I know that sounds counter productive but I can find the nausea and gagging can kick in if I'm getting hungry. Even just a biscuit here and there or fruit and it can take the edge off.

CoalCraft · 07/02/2022 13:52

@notsofertilemyrtle I thankfully don't have constant gagging like that but it can start up in response to certain smells. I've found nibbling on a ginger biscuit helps (though possibly just by drowning put said smells).

xana99 · 07/02/2022 14:42

Hi can I jump in on the due in August chat?? I'm hormonal and queasy and needing a good slap today ConfusedGrin

Cakecakecheese · 07/02/2022 14:56

Scan went well! I can get excited now!

notsofertilemyrtle · 07/02/2022 15:31

Thanks @PopGoesBang you inspired me to go dig out some biscuits and I'm literally nibbling one over about 30mins and it helps soak up that gross taste.

@CoalCraft I used to love ginger snaps until eating them when nauseous and now even the sight of the packet makes me gag a bit 🙈 hoping it goes as I usually love them

Welcome @xana99 of course, queasiness and hormonal is welcomed 😆 hope you're not feeling too bad

Hurray @Cakecakecheese ❤️ that's fab! Will you be sharing the news with people now? I can't wait to do that

Beth262 · 07/02/2022 15:33

@CoalCraft I hope you're ok after falling down the stairs Shock Did you have your bleed after falling or before? I know youve had lots of bleeding and with dd and you say you'd call epu if you have more bleeding but if it was me, I'd ring anyway! 10 days to dating scan can be a long time if you're worrying (hopefully unnecessarily). But I know everyone is different, so here if you just want to wait for those 10 days and have a hand hold until you get there x

Glad the scan went well @Cakecakecheese were you measuring where you thought?

OP posts:
Cakecakecheese · 07/02/2022 15:52

I'm 13+1 going of my IVF dates but was measuring at 13+4. Sonographer said to just stick with my IVF date.

I have told a few people now yes it's so nice to be able to talk bout it!

CoalCraft · 07/02/2022 16:08

@Cakecakecheese Ah, amazing, congrats!

@Beth262 The bleed was before the fall so definitely not related. I'm fine thank you; it hurt at the time cause it was my back and funny bone that got hit, but it was all bony bits and apart from a tiny bruise on my arm there was no lasting damage.

I think if the bleed had happened on a week day I would have called the epu, but as it was on Saturday and there's been nothing since I think I'll wait and see if it happens again at this point. It definitely wasn't a big enough deal for triage or a&e.

I do wish the epu ran seven days a week though!

Cakecakecheese · 07/02/2022 16:33

@CoalCraft it is madness that EPUs aren't open on weekend, funding and staff I suppose, but having to wait a few days at a stressful time is really not great. I hope you're doing ok.

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 16:37

@Cakecakecheese yesssss the best feeling ever!!! Congrats :)

@CoalCraft that sounds so stressful, hope you are taking care of yourself and are relaxing as much as possible!

Hoping my NIPT test comes back this week, then have the detailed ultrasound on the 17th for the 12 week measurements which seems like the big step, so a little nervous, but can't change anything till it's done.

@PopGoesBang i'd second the hard boiled sweets. There was a thing where I am called "preggie pops" and that is all they were, but tripple the price. They definitely helped me, especially when driving etc.

CoalCraft · 07/02/2022 16:47

I do in general feel that maternity services are a bit disorganised and disjointed. The epu closes at 4pm and on weekends and honestly it isn't particularly clear to me who to turn to instead. I think if I needed to I'd probably ring 111 and ask who I should approach as I have a feeling I'm too early in gestation for maternity triage?

Reminds me of a memorable afternoon on the phone in my first pregnancy. I was 19 weeks and had had my first bleed in a while so I rang the day assessment unit, only to be told they only dealt with pregnancies from 20 weeks onwards (if I'd known that I'd have been tempted to fib) and be forwarded to the epu. The epu, though, said they only dealt with pregnancies in the first trimester and I should go to the day assessment unit! I explained that I'd already spoken to them but was nevertheless ping-ponged back and forth several times before eventually ending up at an emergency gynae clinic Confused They were lovely and tried to help but weren't very familiar with issues specifically related to pregnancy.

Quite funny in retrospect but headache-inducing at the time!

Beth262 · 07/02/2022 17:00

@CoalCraft glad they're not related. My epu is Monday to Friday 830-1230. Barely a half day! I do think maternity services should be much more consistent across the country. It seems pot luck depending purely on your post code sometimes which isn't great. That's appalling, your 19 week experience. I can imagine you find it amusing now but at the time, wow how stressful!!

I had my screening results back today. All low risk. I was a bit concerned given my age but can breathe a sigh of relief and start worrying about the next issue now 😂

OP posts:
CoalCraft · 07/02/2022 17:03

@Beth262 Good grief, hardly worth opening if they're going to close again do soon!

I'm very glad all your screening results came back negative. Did you have to wait long for them?

Beth262 · 07/02/2022 17:11

Quicker than expected. Had the bloods taken last Monday. They told me 10 working days and they were in this morning's post.

OP posts:
ToCaden · 07/02/2022 18:40

@cakecakecheese so glad your scan went well. It's a huge sigh of relief isn't it.

I had the same thing happen with my ivf dates. Suddenly moved four days forward. Maybe our babies are just a little longer than average?

@notsofertilemyrtle my recommendations are the motion sickness travel bands (don't know how they work but definitely noticed when taking them off during my dodgy weeks). Omeprazole and rennies helps me with the gagging feelings that led to throwing up in my case. Plus nibbling on crystallised ginger and sipping ginger ale. And never going a couple hours without eating something.

OMallytheAlleyCat · 07/02/2022 19:20

Hi 👋 I'm new to this thread and 15 weeks today with first pregnancy.

Has anyone else this experience - you tell close friends and family pre-dating scan then after the scan they tell literally everyone without checking it's ok? Like they've just presumed it's ok?

My baby was in a weird position and they couldn't get blood out of me at the combined scan so no anomaly tests until 20 weeks...I told the ones who knew this but they still told everyone.

I don't know if I'm being overly sensitive. I do know I'll keep the labour/birth announcement much closer to my chest and be clearer about my boundaries going forward.

It's all a leaning curve the first time!

xana99 · 07/02/2022 19:29

Thanks for the welcome! I'm an IVF-er too, see a few more on here which is lovely! We found out 22/12, and first IVF scan was bang on date so it will be interesting to see what the next scan dates me as! I'm in next Monday for my first NHS scan, I'll be 11+6. Very excited for those who have been for scans, I'm so looking forward to Monday! My poor husband has had a crap week with me haha, hormones and hanger are a bad combo. Hopefully seeing bump on screen again will remind him it's all worth it, even if he does have to share a bed with an ice cube every night!

madeleine85 · 07/02/2022 19:53

@OMallytheAlleyCat with my DD I told my parents at 8 weeks I think, and then things started happening like a distant aunt sent a random congratulations card, when I had told them to say absolutely nothing to anyone. This time i've not told them yet, because of that! My mum did the same with my sister as well. Was told to keep it to herself and then decided that "family is myself" so told all the relatives etc. She is out of the circle of trust this time until at least the NIPT/detailed scan at 12 weeks! You are totally right to be a bit upset/sensitive. Not much you can do now though but use it as a learning experience for going forward unfortunately.

@xana99 I am also FREEZING all the frigging time. I was unfortunately the same with my DD, so I know that is just how my body is when pregnant :(. I found out we were expecting on 23/12 and my 12 week scan is on the 17th, so we are roughly around the same point. Good luck for next week, i'm sure it will be a lovely feeling to finally see the little one! Because of covid, my husband will be seeing the bump for the first time next week too, so it will be his first real connection which makes me excited/nervous!
