@gigantaraffe Thanks, I am actually hoping to sway him by using his older children as leverage!! 😆 They are old enough that he'd happily travel abroad with them now, and it's not really fair for them......(aka ME!)....to miss out.

I did think about the scan but don't have a date yet...not sure when I'll get that? I guess I'll wait for that before booking anything.

gigantaraffe · 15/02/2022 17:27

Definitely! I think you just have to bite the bullet and go really. It did rip the bandaid off for me doing it at 8 weeks and took the fear away. DD's been to so many places now and is a brilliant traveller. I love going on holiday with her. Maybe book for before or after that week to be safe :)

Karla1313 · 15/02/2022 17:32

@mummysept22 I'm 8+3 today had private scan this morning and everything looks fine, heartbeat is strong ! I also don't have any sickness in fact most of my symptoms are gone !
@HelenHomebird Definitely not feeling pregnant but everything seems to be going well. So maybe relax and try to enjoy it Smile. It may change pretty quickly but fingers crossed!
@glitterygreen Definitely! I'm playing to go away in early April to Madeira and again in May, to NYC or Tenerife. Also planning to visit my family in Europe before end of June. Had doctors appointment this morning and he said travel is perfectly fine and safe (if you don't have any underlying medical conditions of course, if yes always discuss with your own doctor or midwife). If going on flight that is over 4h he recommended wearing compression socks as risk of blood cloth is slightly higher while pregnant. The only thing to take into consideration is your destination and if there will be access to medical care in case something goes wrong.

@Glitterygreen

Is anyone going on holiday abroad this year?

I am desperate to go as it's been so long due to COVID, and I know we won't get the opportunity for at least a couple of years after the baby is born as DP is not keen on travelling with young children.

The only thing is the very earliest we could go is May due to other commitments so (all being well) I'll be 20 weeks at the very least, do you think that's too late/a bit risky?

I'm supposed to be going to Barcelona in June for a music festival but I'll be 25 weeks by then, fat and extremely sweaty with the heat lol not to mention lots of people bumping into me, so giving it a miss
TotoAnnihiliation · 15/02/2022 17:52

I'm struggling, really struggling. I can't bear the thought of food. I do eat, I pick at it and feel full very quickly. I have been given cyclizine which I take intermittently when I feel really sick. I don't know wether to talk to the doctor about it, I really don't feel well at all at the moment. Anyone going through anything similar?

madeleine85 · 15/02/2022 17:56

@Glitterygreen I will say that in my experience the first 6 months of having a baby they are easier to travel with. Don't rule that little piece of time out for your travels :) 6 months to 2 years however... complete disaster for us and our very active DD.

How far are you now? I do wake up some days feeling like I've been hit by a bus. It might be worth asking for something else from the GP?
annlee3817 · 15/02/2022 18:01

No abroad holiday for me, as we're in the process of buying a house :) so that's the focus this year. Hoping to get a few camping trips in though before the baby arrives.

@TotoAnnihiliation I couldn't think about food, but forced myself to nibble crackers and bland foods, and it helped, granted I felt like I was constantly nibbling, but was better than the absolute constant sickness

@gigantaraffe I'm 8+6. I think I'll call the doctor tomorrow.

@annlee3817 I can't even think of anything snack like that might help. Everything repulses me! Is there anything that helped you in particular?

annlee3817 · 15/02/2022 18:23

@TotoAnnihiliation I got the high fibre Jacobs cream crackers as they were slightly salty, they definitely were managable once I forced the initial fee bites

OP posts:
gigantaraffe · 15/02/2022 18:40

I second jacobs crackers. I would eat them on the school run. I also feel worse when I'm hungry. Which doesn't bode well for weight gain but I just had to eat little and often.

TotoAnnihiliation · 15/02/2022 18:42

Thank you @annlee3817 and @gigantaraffe I'll send DH to get some.

HeyBlaby · 15/02/2022 19:12

@glitterygreen I'm going to Spain when I'll be towards the end of my second trimester, we will be staying with my dad who lives there.

I wouldn't risk it in the third trimester as increased risk of complications that may require monitoring or pre-term labour, which would be awfully stressful whilst abroad!

I've checked our travel insurance and it covers anything pregnancy related and also will have the GHIC (replaces EHIC) which will ensure me and baby would be eligible for any treatment the same as a Spanish resident would be, so doubly protected.

monkeyjocks · 15/02/2022 19:32

@TotoAnnihiliation I'm the same. Spend the day feeling sorry for myself. I'm also on cyclizine but it's not helping much I don't thing. Takes the edge off and helps me not being sick as often but I still feel very nauseous all day. Very food repulse me, even just opening the fridge makes me want to vom. Are you working at the moment?

I'm so sorry that you feel the same. I currently signed off with pregnancy related sickness. There is no way I could work at the moment, I think I would actually keel over!

calipoppy · 15/02/2022 19:43

@TotoAnnihiliation I feel nauseous all day but it's far worse if I let myself get too hungry - at the moment I eat something (usually toasted scotch pancakes) right before I go to bed, and then in the morning I eat a biscuit before I get up - thats helped SO much in making sure I don't actually throw up in the mornings. Maybe it's worth a try to see if you can get yourself full enough to break the cycle? (You might also just be totally different to me, everyone responds in such different ways!)

ShiningStarz · 15/02/2022 19:44

Great to hear so many of you don't feel pregnant but have had scans that have been fine! Roll on next week for me!!
My booking scan is at 12 weeks, it's all in hospital and takes 2hrs including the scan.
I got my GP to refer. I actually rang the clinic and they gave me the date over the phone and then sent a letter confirming the date. It's not until early March.
@MOLWI hope all is ok tonight ❤️

I feel hungry, then when I get my food, I can't eat! I'm going to take a packet of biscuits to bed this evening.

@TotoAnnihiliation I know doctors dont usually give it unless pushed, but Zofran really knocked away the morning sickness for me with my DD. My sister had Cyclizine with her first and found it took away the vomiting but not the nausea. Zofran for me (and for her second one) took away both completely. It does make you a bit sleepy, but I could handle that compared to the constant puking. Also, you are getting close to the "feeling better" zone, just know that weeks 7-9 are usually the peak feeling worst period x

TotoAnnihiliation · 15/02/2022 20:32

@madeleine85 I thought I was feeling better a couple of days ago. Now, I seem to have hit a wall. I'm so very tired. I can't stop crying either!
