Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

I was considering them then got to try out the different types at my last NCT class the other week.

DH had already bought one of those front-backpack-looking ones but it turns out babies can’t sit in those for as long, plus it was expensive and weighty.

My favourite one from the course was actually this one:
www.amazon.co.uk/Sling-Stretchy-Carrier-Lightweight-Breastfeeding/dp/B01IPFBKBE?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It was really lightweight, the fake baby we were testing them with felt really secure. The instructor even showed us it can be untied and you can jump around without it becoming any less secure.

The other good one was called a ‘Mei Tai’ baby sing. It was a more formed version of the fabric one above and really easy to put on.
Ultimately though it was more expensive (and the patterns are all horrible haha) so we got the plain fabric one.

I’ve rambled but I hope that’s helpful!

@fejkalove
Also I was nervous about not being able to tie one properly but it was way simpler than I was expecting!
There are videos on YouTube showing how to tie them.

This is the way we were shown:

Thank you lovely that's really interesting to hear!! I have a couple of NCT sessions left so may hold off and see if we get to try them too! X

@fejkalove I was between baby carrier and sling but my health visitor suggested baby carrier in the end but its gonna be mainly used to transport LO from our top floor flat to the ground floor when going out when I can then put him in his pram. After we move I thought it be good to keep for when he gets older can use it in backpack mode. I brought the any day one from boots x

Lavendersblue42 · 12/04/2022 21:40

Check and see if there is a sling library near you once baby arrives- we got to try a few different styles and there was an option to hire one to see if you got on with it before buying your own. We liked the mamaruga, soft structured but with clips as I didn’t trust my knot tying abilities!

GinnyBee · 12/04/2022 22:06

I have a sling from Jojo Maman Bebe for the early days, as I think I've heard somewhere that carriers shouldn't be used until a few weeks old. Will get a carrier later on then. I suspect, as long as he gets on with it, I will be carrying him far more than have him in a pram. I don't trust my dog with a pram, and also lot of our walks are unsuitable for a pram anyway.

Sarah239 · 12/04/2022 22:29

@Bubbasmama2017 I feel the same, it's my last week of work (two days to go!) and every time I have a little scare I think "I am definitely not ready for this baby to come today...!" I've been assuming she'll come after due date but like you say, you never know. Can't wait for work to be over so I can finish the last bits of prep and then hopefully have some time to just rest and relax! I know I'm lucky to be in a position to be going on leave at 36 weeks though so counting my blessings...

Was it hospital on Monday to check movements. All fine, but also had a surprise speculum exam to check my waters weren't leaking...! I am wishing now I had actually declined that and followed my gut that it was unnecessary as just caused unnecessary anxiety and discomfort. Anyway, lesson learned and all fine now.

@fejkalove you could look up local sling libraries, as I understand it these are
local groups where you can try out different slings/carriers and try which works for you, obviously cheaper too! Might be something to check.

My throat feels a bit weird today but hard to tell if it's acid reflux, or a cold, or covid maybe... or nothing! Should know when I wake up tomorrow I think if it's going to develop into something fully fledged; I will do an LFT tomorrow. I hope everyone who has got covid has recovered ok xx

Sarah239 · 12/04/2022 22:31

Sorry just seen that @Lavendersblue42 had already mentioned the sling libraries... I can't keep up! 🙈

Kittycaz · 13/04/2022 07:20

Damn baby carrier I brought says suitable from birth 6lb as long as you use the front way. I don't know whether to buy a sling now. After birth I'm having 2 weeks inside with baby to heal and bond. Then we will start going out for walks. My plan was to get DH to carry pram down stairs and me to strap in baby so I can easily carry him down the stairs. Then when I get outside remove him from carrier and put him in the bassinet. Repeat the process going back up the stairs. It's only a short amount of time he will be in the carrier. Do u think it will be OK? I'll link the carrier I got x

morphe · 13/04/2022 10:50

We used an Ergobaby carrier, from birth. It has a little bit to insert into the carrier to hold the baby in the right position. It was mostly DH who used it (I wouldn't have managed to, in the first month or so after my c-section). I tended to use the pushchair rather than carrier as we're city based and most places we went to are buggy-friendly. I always found I got too hot and sweaty using the carrier as I would have to carry the changing bag (rucksack) as well - it was far easier to hang it off the buggy handle.

@Kittycaz personally I would have thought a newborn will be fine in that carrier, especially if it's only for carrying downstairs. It sounds like a pain having to carry the pram down every time. We live in a flat but in a purpose-built building with a lift - when it's out of order I've really struggled.

@YfenniChristie I hope you manage to avoid catching Covid. We have PCRs booked two days before my booked c-section and just have to hope that DH and I test negative, the biggest risk is probably DD being in nursery but that can't be avoided.

YfenniChristie · 13/04/2022 18:11

Evening everyone! Hope everyone is doing well.

I've been able to avoid catching Covid, and DH tested negative today, so crossing fingers he tests negative tomorrow too.

Meeting with the consultant went well this afternoon. They're happy with my blood pressure, the meds are working and I'll have checks twice a week.

Moving forward, the plan is that I'll likely be induced. They're not sure when exactly (need to see how the next two weeks go) but I won't be going past my due date (11th May). We still have bits to sort out with the hospital bag, but it's getting there!

We've not looked at slings yet! I keep meaning to check out our local sling library.

Kittycaz · 13/04/2022 21:51

@YfenniChristie am glad to hear everything is going OK and you avoided catching covid 🤞you and DH can keep it away ready for your little ones arrival.

I had my 36 week appointment today midwife came to my home and I finally have a birth plan in place. She's very happy with my colostrum harvesting I showed her my stockpile in fridge I now have 3ml saved away hoping to get to 10ml ready for the hospital but I'm getting more everyday. I am feeling very uncomfortable today. More stretch marks have shown up mainly around belly button and midwife says he is 4/5 engaged. Anyone else getting random hot flushes? X

YfenniChristie · 13/04/2022 22:13

@Kittycaz Can't say I've experienced any hot flushes, but have been finding it far too warm generally (especially at the hospital today, it was boiling!)

However I am finding the movements increasingly uncomfortable - they feel very forceful nowadays. It feels like they're pushing their hands downwards and out towards my hips, while at the same time pushing their bum outwards. They are constantly catching me off guard.

EastMidsGem · 14/04/2022 11:57

@YfenniChristie really glad you managed to stay away from covid. I have to have my pre-op on 24th April and then isolate until the c-section on 26th. Can't believe it's less than 2 weeks now. Though I am not really going out at the moment because I'm struggling to walk so much. Hopefully hubby will be allowed to work from home on the Monday so we're both isolating between pre-op and op.

@Kittycaz no hot flushes here either but definitely warmer than usual all the time

I had never heard of a sling library! We have a carrier (I think it's Chicco) that came as part of our travel system. It says it can be used from newborn but I'd imagine we won't use it for a couple of months as we can do walks from the house with the pram

Are we going to run out of space on this thread soon?

Bubbasmama2017 · 14/04/2022 14:10

@Kittycaz I just saw my midwife for 36 weeks check too, she felt around for the baby and said she's probably head down low but how did they know baby was 4/5th engaged? She didn't mention this to me! She's always been a bit rubbish tbh.
I don't really have hot flushes but I do feel warmer than normal allllll the time, never need a coat when everyone else is wearing one lol
