Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

I haven't thought too much about isolating after baby is here, we will need to keep things fairly normal for my older daughter going to her preschool and usual classes/groups she does although I may keep house visits minimal for the first week or so. I'm hoping to be at home as soon as possible, with my daughter I had to go back into hospital for a few days.
Getting really excited for maternity leave now! Got 2 weeks left and hoping I'll get at least 2 weeks to myself before baby arrives!

Hi everyone, been looking but not messaged for a while. The time is flying so quickly now, I was planning to start getting more sorted this week as really don’t feel ready at all. However my little boy has got chicken pox so no nursery for him this week. The only positive is a least it will be over before the baby arrives!

Sarah239 · 04/04/2022 23:09

Hi everyone. Had my 34 week appt today. It was fine but I did get a vibe the midwife wanted me out quickly, when the first thing she says when you walk in the room is "you are my last appointment of the day!" it does feel a bit like she wants you in and out! I've had her twice now, she's fine but I think she is very new and seems young and she doesn't seem to know the processes at the practice for anything. I don't really mind as I don't really want much fuss and we covered the things I'd written to check, but it doesn't fill me with confidence... I've had no questions about birth plan, the only thing mentioned was a passing comment "Are you planning to give birth at hospital?" 🙈 and that was 6 weeks ago by the senior midwife. It just makes me really glad I've done NCT and hypnobirthing as if I hadn't I wouldn't have a clue from midwifery team! That's given me so much more confidence.

Thinking of all of you facing difficulties and challenges at this late stage and sending hugs! Time is passing so quickly now, isn't it... I have 8 days of work left...! Still only halfway through packing hospital bag.

Sarah239 · 04/04/2022 23:14

Also Covid is stressing me out again... every time I think I'm past worrying it rears its head again!

It's not even myself I'm worried about (as crazy as that sounds) but I'm just fearful of my husband catching it around due date and having to miss the birth. The case numbers are so high at the moment and no more rules! The thought of him missing the birth of his child just makes my blood run cold! Just praying really but what can you do beyond hope for the best 🥴

EastMidsGem · 05/04/2022 07:26

@Sarah239 completely agree with the covid stress. I don't think most other people understand that haven't gone through pregnancy during covid. Not long to go so hopefully all our partners remain clear!

Had my 36 week scan yesterday and although all measurements are good and perfectly in range, baby is still breech. He doesn't want to move down so now got to be referred to breech clinic - I'll receive a call today to find out when the appointment is. Think it might mean that I'll elect for a c-section given the alternatives. So late on to make that decision though

Kittycaz · 05/04/2022 07:28

@Sarah239 fully understand I am in the same boat even though he has just had it and recovered I feel like it's sods law he will get it again and I really don't want him to miss such an important moment. It winds me up yesterday at hospital while sat waiting to be scanned a cleaner came in mask round his chin having a coughing fit as he entered (it prob wasn't covid but pregnancy brain no likely) and in my town noone is even trying to not pass it on. Me and DH wear our masks whenever we go out and obsessively sanitise. Luckily I'm on my mat leave now so am only leaving home for appointments but DH still has 2 weeks left and am relying on him to do shopping and such. Sorry for rant there. I've not got a birth plan in place yet either midwife said she's doing it next week but I know everything can change in a blink of an eye when your actually in labour and if I'm being induced early all my plans go out the window anyway 😂 was gonna attempt a no pain relief birthif I went into labour naturally but if I'm being induced (after knowing how painful it can be from friends) I'll take everything they've got x

YfenniChristie · 05/04/2022 08:26

Noone has asked me anything about my birth plan. Luckily the NCT classes have given me a better idea of what I do and don't want. I have a feeling that I'm not going to know exactly what my options are until next Monday when I have an appointment with the Healthy Pregnancy Clinic (midwife at a growth scan implied they'd make a decision then when I said I didn't know if I was consultant or midwife led).

I'm trying not to dwell too much on Covid. We're doing our best to keep ourselves safe, but we can't control what others do (unfortunately!).

Mummyingetc · 05/04/2022 08:28

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about the PET and GD trials and tribulations- at least there’s plans in place. I love a good plan, it makes me feel so much better!

Talking of which, if anyone feels like they would like more information about pain relief choices and not feeling that they’re getting it from their midwife- there’s an excellent website with pdf leaflets that’s been recommended to me by an obstetric anaesthetist- @Kittycaz I don’t know if pre-reading helps your brain at all but this is it if you fancy:

www.labourpains.com/home

The pain relief leaflet is this one:

www.labourpains.com/assets/_managed/cms/files/InfoforMothers/Pain%20Relief%20Comparison%20Card/pain%20relief%20comparison%20card%20september%202014.pdf

Though I’ve just noticed they’ve got a how does COVID effect me bit as well but I suppose that’s if you need a section.

I’m so huge and exhausted now. I’m so happy to be pregnant and lucky that so far things have relatively straightforward but I would really like my body back now with just me in it- just for one nights decent sleep… I feel so full and cumbersome the whole time. Uurrggff. Right moan over, must tidy kitchen and build a cot. 1 month to go.

LS2020 · 05/04/2022 08:37

Hi all, not been on much but have been checking in and reading messages. Can’t believe how quick the time has gone!

I’m 35 weeks and finished work yesterday. Baby has been measuring big but last week jumped from 94th percentile to 99th (apparently baby is 7lb 2 and I’m not showing any GD signs) so have an additional call with consultant this week to decide on inducement options. I was looking at a 38 week induction but they’re thinking of bringing it forward so might be 36/37weeks now so not long left to go!
Nearly there with nursery now and I have my hospital bag list written.. does that count?!

@Sarah239 agree covid is biggest worry atm, someone in my NCT’s partner has just tested positive at 38.5 weeks and I can’t imagine their concern on not being able to attend. We were planning to self isolate ourselves from 36 weeks ahead of 38w induction but if that gets pulled up, I don’t think we’ll manage it as not sure we’ll get enough notice.

I’ve done my birth plan but not run through with midwife, assumed that was 36w appointment but again don’t know if mine is all moot now. @Kittycaz I was the same on no pain relief but if I’m having an induction I might at least get the injections at the start so I can get lots of sleep early on x

Orangessunshine · 06/04/2022 21:40

Time is flying by! I think this might be my first post but long time admirer of the lovely group of May babies.

Is anyone else almost overwhelmed what do once the baby is here?
I'm all for motherly instinct but could do with helping it along a bit.
I've seen quite a few posts of hypnobirthing in labour etc has anyone brought the Postpartum pack or found found anything particularly useful other MN?x

Sarah239 · 06/04/2022 23:16

@Orangessunshine yes I've been debating getting the Postpartum pack. I think I just have a mental block that until they are safely here I find it all hard to imagine and prepare for, past the birth... got my NCT session on breastfeeding on Saturday which I'm keen for as I feel clueless about it!

Mummyingetc · 07/04/2022 08:12

Get the breast feeding book! I’m on my third- but it was my bible for my first- didn’t read it til he was about 2 weeks old and kicked myself that I hadn’t read it before…
books.google.co.uk/books/about/What_To_Expect_When_You_re_Breast_feedin.html?id=ge_qYIAOP2IC&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=1&redir_esc=y

Mummyingetc · 07/04/2022 08:15

The only thing I liked post-natally was the baby whisperer stuff but the book is cheesy and wordy- you can just Google the info on various websites and chat fora. Way better than NCT if you ask me… NCT is good for coffee meet ups and friends and not a great deal else!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 07/04/2022 10:08

@Sarah239 and @Orangessunshine, I really like a book called The Positive Breastfeeding Book by Amy Brown. It has given me a lot more confidence as a FTM for breastfeeding and other early-days baby care.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 07/04/2022 10:15

So, I got home last night after a day and a half's hospital stay for high blood pressure. I'm so glad to be home. It looks like I'll be induced sometime between 37 weeks (the consultant's preference) and 38 weeks (my goal). I'm 36+1 today, so that's feeling SO soon!!

After spending the night on the labour ward, I can confirm that earplugs you can sleep in and an eye mask would go a long way. Bringing your own pillow too is key (my husband brought me mine when I was admitted).

So, it like like this May Mum is going to have an April baby!

K834baby3 · 07/04/2022 11:10

Hello ladies, please can I join your thread.
I'm due my 3rd baby on 16th May and beginning to find this last bit hard going😩

YfenniChristie · 07/04/2022 11:43

Morning ladies, apparently Thursdays aren't my day as I'm back in Obstetrics with high blood pressure - and this time it's not coming fast enough. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just had bloods taken so waiting on the results of that. Depending on how those turn out, I've been told I may just have to take meds but who knows?

Trying really hard to chill out and not get wound up catastrophizing.

YfenniChristie · 07/04/2022 11:44

*not coming down fast enough

aNewYorkerInLondon · 07/04/2022 12:11

@YfenniChristie, it's so frustrating! I hope they don't keep you too long.

@K834baby3, welcome!!

morphe · 07/04/2022 12:43

@aNewYorkerInLondon sorry you've had to have an overnight stay. Hope your blood pressure is looking better. I'm also 36 weeks and I don't think I'd be ready for baby to arrive at 37 weeks, it does sound soon! We're only getting our cot delivered tomorrow as there was a delay in the delivery time.

@YummyMummyXoX Sorry to hear you have GD too. The diet is feeling like a bit of a slog now but I guess you won't have to put up with it for too long. I've been having horrible cramps on metformin which apparently is a side effect but not too bad otherwise.

@LS2020 my baby is jumping up the centiles too (close to 90th on the scan last week) but I've been due to have a c-section all along so my consultant isn't too concerned.

@Mummyingetc yep I'm also feeling huge, and not much rest time for me as I have a preschooler to run around after. I've been having terrible sleep recently, and I don't expect it to get better once the baby's here!

I have to admit we're not being especially careful re Covid as my DD is in nursery anyway and we've booked up various activities to keep her busy over Easter, which are usually indoors as the weather is so unpredictable. There's a chance that DH won't be able to attend my c-section anyway if it's an early slot as he needs to drop off DD at nursery first. It would be a shame but personally I don't feel I need him there - a c-section is a fairly passive procedure compared to labour.

Welcome @K834baby3 and @Orangessunshine!

YfenniChristie · 07/04/2022 12:57

Well, they've given me beta blockers and while they're happy it's come down, they're still not happy overall so are keeping me in for monitoring overnight.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed and had a cry at the consultant.

Cienega · 07/04/2022 13:43

Hi all, I’m very late to the party here, I’m due May 13th, it’s my fourth baby and my first little rainbow baby. All has been really well thankfully but I just wanted to ask if any of you know what your baby’s heart rates have been at checkups? If they have been low at all and if it’s been a concern? My little girls are generally low and nothing has been said but today her rate rate was 115. That seems very low to me. Google has the Norma range at either 110 or 120 (depending on what site you are on) to 160. 115 falls very low on that line. My other babies were 140-150 so I’m just a little concerned. Would love any feedback of any similar situations? Xx

GinnyBee · 07/04/2022 16:23

Welcome to all newcomers!

I'm also reading The Positive Breastfeeding Book mentioned earlier! It's approachable and so far finding it informative and helpful but I'm not very far into it.

Sorry to hear you're back in the hospital again @YfenniChristie :( not long now and baby will be here and hopefully that'll be last you'll se of the hospital walls for a while!

I had my c-section booked in today for the 10th May! 🥳 Feels so bloody real now, Thor has been served his eviction notice and I really won't be pregnant forever even though it often feels like it! 😳 Pre-op will be on the 7th when they go through all the detail of what happens on the day, and I'll get a more specific time as well.

YummyMummyXoX · 07/04/2022 16:54

@aNewYorkerInLondon oh wow you haven't got very long! I'm glad you are home and better and can wait until you reach a gestation you feel comfortable having your baby.

@K834baby3 welcome! We have the same due date although I'm being induced in advanced. How are you feeling?

@YfenniChristie thinking of you, sending virtual hugs I can relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed and out of control with unexpected conditions if that's how you would describe it

@morphe started metformin today although with changing my diet the readings started to come down so not very enthusiastic about taking it alongside all the other drugs cocktail 😂 I too had cramps which i know is common huff but they soon passed I'm hoping they get less and less as my body gets used to it happy there's no nausea I don't fancy feeling sicky again after getting rid of HG X
