Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!
@fejkalove well I would try to let some of those comments go over your head because it's not recommended that you diet during pregnancy so there's nothing we can do about it except be careful not to gain too much extra. It really isn't helpful when medical staff make comments like that - it isn't as though you can do anything to make it better by the next scan! I have a very high BMI and although it's in my notes, they barely mention it to be honest so it really must depend on the doctors/midwives/sonographers you happen to get.

Also the baby being in an awkward position does just happen sometimes regardless of your weight. I know a friend of mine has to go back twice after her 20 week scan as the baby wasn't in the right position and she wasn't overweight
Thank you, was just feeling a little low today anyway so probably took more notice than normal. I am embarrassed about my weight and fully aware myself so like you say it's not helpful when they also point it out (and in front of other people!) she eventually got the measurements she needed even if DD didn't want to play along.

How are you all enjoying your weekends?

robyna · 15/01/2022 18:22

@EastMidsGem @GinnyBee it's nice that there's other Midlands moms on here too! Im from Birmingham originally but currently live in north Warwickshire.

robyna · 15/01/2022 18:23

@EastMidsGem oh also just to add, you do have to book an appointment for baby baby online. We tried to nip in with my parents but they're appointment only, she said you can book online though

I’m not overweight (pre-pregnancy BMI of 20, although god knows what it is now, I have hit the chocolate hard and haven't weighed myself for months!) and I still had to go away for half an hour during my 20 week scan and have something to eat and drink before the sonographer was able to get the view of my baby's face that she needed. It's quite common, I think.

Thank you, I know these babies can be difficult to scan, it was the sonographers comments that didn't help. She could've simply left it as 'baby is being stubborn' but she continued with 'it's also difficult to get through the layers of fat as you do have a higher BMI' and the continuing to mention seeing the consultant, growth scans and the GD testing. rolls eyes all things I'm well aware of already but just felt like unnecessary comments especially in front of others.
aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/01/2022 20:11

@fejkalove , she sounds like a horrible woman. I'd bet she has her own issues that she takes out on her patients. If your midwives/doctors had a problem with anything you're doing, they'd let you know. This sono-tech can eff off.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with her!

mowglika · 15/01/2022 21:17

@fejkalove that’s a horrible experience and you shouldn’t have had to go through that. If you want to you can make a complaint about your treatment during the scan, it’s not her business to be making comments about your weight and totally against nhs values of respect and dignity for patients. Don’t feel that you can’t speak up should you want to. Hope you are feeling a little better about it now x

GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 21:42

Oh booooo! I've just gone to check I have the details for tomorrow's JL appointment to find none at all! Had another look at the website and realised I must have missed the last step of the booking - I got to the stage where I had all the appointment details etc. and assumed it was done, but it was to review the booking and was supposed to still click 'confirm', which wasn't visible until scrolling all the way down. Well, that's disappointing! Booked another for next Friday now 😒

I have no idea what weight I've put on. I haven't been weighed since my 12 week scan, and I was about 5kg up by then, probably mostly water retention and a bit of lockdown weight. I haven't owned scales for years, I generally think the numbers are meaningless for me and best to just look in the mirror instead.

@fejkalove That sounds really unpleasant, I'm sorry you had such a negative experience. I've seen others comment as well that their notes mention something about weight, but have never had any trouble with private scans, so probably NHS equipment is just old and not sensitive enough.

👋🏽

YfenniChristie · 16/01/2022 07:38

Morning everyone, I've been awake since 5am so today is going to be a nap heavy day I think 🤦🏼‍♀️ Have spent much of the morning just feeling the baby move around - I'm getting a lot of movement on my left and very little on the right. Just felt a huge amount of pressure next to my belly button and felt what I think was their head? Really wish I could see what they are up to in there.

@fejkalove I am so sorry you've had such an awful experience with that sonographer. It's not on and completely uncalled for.

@TunaJacket I'm currently 23 weeks and I haven't put on any weight since my 12 week scan. I do have a high BMI however, and the midwife was very unconcerned about it (my blood pressure is another story) as baby is meeting their targets. But they are expecting me to gain weight in the coming months.

MissM94 · 16/01/2022 08:12

Morning! Think I'm starting to get pelvic griddle pain (is that what it's called?) on my left side, it comes and goes and first started when I bent down.. it feels like a sharp cramp! I knew it would only be a matter of time before i started getting some pains because it's been so plain sailing 😂

YummyMummyXoX · 16/01/2022 10:10

Thanks for the new thread @Bubbasmama2017 xx

@TunaJacket I've lost 11lb with hyperemisis. I find it strange as I wander how much I've actually lost without the baby, fluid, placenta etc. I'm now eating whatever I fancy because it's better than no food whatsoever. I thought I'd start to gain weight in the last few weeks but not as yet

Hope everyone and bumps are Ok x

morphe · 16/01/2022 10:46

Morning everyone! I haven't posted for quite a while as I was abroad over Christmas, then last week I had an awful tooth infection which made it impossible to sleep. I've only had toothache bad enough to request an emergency dentist once before, and that was the last time I was pregnant, so I'm convinced that pregnancy really messes up my teeth. Thankfully a course of antibiotics has done the trick and I'm getting back to normal now. I'd been avoiding painkillers throughout the pregnancy but had to use codeine for a while as the pain was so bad.

@TunaJacket I've put on at least 20lb Blush. Most of it during the carb-heavy first trimester. I think I'm a bit complacent because I lost weight really easily when breastfeeding last time, although I know too much weight gain is bad in itself.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 16/01/2022 19:09

Hey ladies! Maybe I'm late to the game, but today I joined a gym just to use the pool and OMG it was heaven! The moment I got in the water my back and hips felt SO much better. I used a kick board and did about 15 laps, got my heart rate up and focused on keeping my back flat. I would have done more laps but it was getting a hit crowded. My back feels so much looser now. I'm going to try to go as much as I can. It was magic. I highly recommend it!

Welcome back @morphe! Glad your tooth is feeling better.

@TunaJacket, I've gained 17lbs so since pre-pregnancy, but I'm feeling good. 🙂

Luckygreenduck · 16/01/2022 20:03

My boobs seem to have just exploded! I bought a couple a cheap bra a couple of sizes up and it doesnt go anywhere near. I always thought I wanted bigger boobs but not sure now haha.
What are people doing about bras? Are you buying bigger ones, special maternity ones or just managing?
Will they just keep getting bigger or will they stop at some point!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 16/01/2022 20:37

@Luckygreenduck, when I was first pregnant I couldn't handle anything too tight or scratchy, and certainly no underwire, so I bought some stretchy, soft maternity bras. The ones I chose are called Ballet made by the brand Bravado. They're still so comfy as my boobs just grow and grow.

GinnyBee · 16/01/2022 20:49

@Luckygreenduck I got some maternity bras from Hotmilk sale, I had to go up two (!!) band sizes but stayed the same cup size. I haven't worn a proper bra in years as I really hate them and find them uncomfortable, so I got wire-free and they're great!

GinnyBee · 17/01/2022 10:35

Is anyone else buying everything new? I know I could save a lot of dosh by getting things second hand, but I just can't be arsed with the hassle! Trawling through Ebay and Facebook marketplace, placing bids, dealing with unresponsive people, then probably having to drive god knows where to pick the stuff up... But is it a huge waste of money getting new stuff? I looked at cot beds on FB and loads available, but I'd want a new mattress by which time the cheap frame isn't actually that much cheaper than getting a new bed with mattress included. Gonna blow through most of our savings especially as we need to upgrade to a bigger car too.

On the other hand, if we have another then new things will probably last better? And if we don't they should have some resale value still.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 17/01/2022 11:04

@GinnyBee, we're getting all new things too. We don't really have many friends here in the UK for hand-me-downs and I don't trust buying things that I can't either physically see in a shop or buy-and-return online. Also, we don't drive, so our ability to pick up second-hand goods is limited to what we can carry on the tube or in a taxi (which the cab in itself is expensive). We're super lucky though - because he is the first grandchild on both sides, and because they cannot be here in person, the grandparents are eager to help us kit out the nursery.

GinnyBee · 17/01/2022 11:38

@aNewYorkerInLondon Yes similar, we don't know a lot of people who have kids big enough to have outgrown baby things but small enough to still have them lying around. All our friends either don't have kids yet, have older kids and sold/donated/chucked their little stuff ages ago, or have babies who still use their cots and bouncers etc. My husband's parents offered us £5k to help with initial costs but we turned them down for a few reasons - they're also our employers and had a few second earlier not just accepted the pay rise I'd suggested for my husband (I'm the accountant), but also topped it with profit share. Would have felt greedy to take the cash too 🙈

robyna · 17/01/2022 11:46

When are you all going on maternity leave? I'm a teacher and find the more pregnant I get, the less I give a shit about menial tasks. Every day that passes and the more shit I have to deal with, the more I look into going sooner rather than later.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 17/01/2022 11:56

@robyna, my EDD is 4 May and I told my boss this morning that I want my last day to be 22 April, but also not to plan anything critical in the two weeks prior to that, as I might have to be induced early due to my BP.

itssquidstella · 17/01/2022 13:15

@robyna me! I’ve already semi checked out mentally even though I’m not going on maternity leave until 20th May (two days before my due date!). I have asked to work from home from the beginning of the summer term, though, so hoping this will be approved.

@GinnyBee we are buying a lot new; PIL very kindly paid for our travel system and my parents are buying us a Snuzpod with all the bits. We've been given a few things second hand by friends but, like you, I can't really be bothered to trawl Facebook marketplace for essentials. I’m happy to use it if I see anything good come up, but I definitely won't be relying on it to get anything we actually need before baby arrives.

GinnyBee · 17/01/2022 13:15

@robyna I plan to finish my other job at 33 weeks at the end of March. 33+2 will be my last day. I'm due 17th May but will be requesting ELCS so that'll be a bit earlier. I only work part time from home so there's no physical reason to finish early, but I already want to leave 🙈 I keep seeing people on social media saying they're working until 38 weeks or even all the way up to their due dates and I keep thinking that's insane! 😂 With my other job I'll stay on until end of April, but because this one is my husband's family's business and not a very busy time of year I suspect I won't actually do a lot of work in April.

YfenniChristie · 17/01/2022 13:53

@GinnyBee A lot of what we're buying is new. By the time our baby arrives, my nephew will be 14 months old so we'll be lent a few bits and pieces like a Next2Me cot, some clothes, etc that he's grown out of.

@robyna I'm due 11th May. All being well, I'm hoping to work up to the end of April, with maternity leave starting in May. I work in heritage/local authority and already mostly working from home so I feel the workload is manageable.
