Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

Thanks @Bubbasmama2017 👍👍 we're having a clear out today so happy other half has finally agreed to get rid of some of his junk! I'm a bit tired but off to the hairdressers to get my roots done... can't wait!!! Wishing everyone a happy Saturday x

EastMidsGem · 15/01/2022 08:38

@fejkalove I had to have a 2nd visit for my 20 week scan because the baby was in the wrong position to get full measurements too. I was asked to go wander around for 20-30 minutes and have some sugar but it made no difference. I have a high BMI so I am classed as at risk but it was more to do with the position of the baby not the BMI that I had to go back. They got everything on the 2nd visit though so I wouldn’t worry too much. They want to make sure they’re being thorough.

I’m a bit overwhelmed with appointments and information at the moment and so still haven’t looked at antenatal classes! Really need to look into it this weekend as I feel like May is creeping up on us all!! We decided we aren’t getting a next to me crib, our room is large enough to put the normal cot at the end of our bed which is what we’ll do. Then I have no fear that I’ll accidentally hit or kick the baby in the night either!

GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 08:48

Thanks @Bubbasmama2017 for the new thread!

I have my consultant appointment next week to request ELCS, is this something that the hubby would/could come to? He wants to come to as many of my appointments as possible, but not sure if that one is just a waste of time for him.

Got a JL baby essentials appointment tomorrow! Gonna finalise our list properly and then it's shopping time.

Is anyone else starting to get impatient already? I'm not quite 23 weeks yet but so ready to be done! I know I'll never sleep again when baby is here, but still think having him out will be better than in 😂

Bubbasmama2017 · 15/01/2022 08:57

@ginnybee yes! I'm so ready to have baby here and cuddle them, I think partly it's not knowing when they will arrive that makes me impatient as well, just want to know they're here and safe

I've been wondering about doing a JL appointment we had our DD 4 years ago so not sure what baby stuff has changed in that time and think we'll need a new baby monitor let us know if it's useful we have a lot of stuff already but I like to be prepared for my own sanity

@anewyorkerinlondon here we are!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/01/2022 09:12

Thank you @GinnyBee and @Bubbasmama2017 !!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/01/2022 09:17

@GinnyBee, im not so much impatient as excited. We're moving next month and so there still do much to do! I think once we're settled, impatience may creep in. For now though, im trying to enjoy being pregnant. It's likely I'm only doing this once, so I want to remember it all.

@Bubbasmama2017 and GinnyBee, I did a JL virtual appointment last weekend and it was super helpful!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/01/2022 09:18

Question for everyone:

We still have a relatively long "shortlist" for baby boy, but I have a name pronunciation question:

Here in the UK, when people see the name Louis, do they typically think

Lou-ee (like Louis Armstrong or Louis XIV)
or
Lew-iss (like the American city St. Louis)

?

Bubbasmama2017 · 15/01/2022 09:26

I would pronounce that lou-ee gorgeous name

OP posts:
GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 09:31

@aNewYorkerInLondon I believe the British default is 'loo-ee' (I'm not British either so this is a guess)

fattycatty82 · 15/01/2022 09:39

@aNewYorkerInLondon like St Louis I would say, Louie for Armstrong! Cute name

@GinnyBee definitely super excited but also keen to enjoy my pregnancy as definitely my last now! I'd like to show my bump off a bit more but haven't had a chance with covid around. When I'm sorting through the baby clothes though I do feel a rush of affection and want to cuddle her already 🥰

We ordered the sleeping bags last night so we're done ... until baby is about 6 months old and we have to get the cotbed, high chair etc 😂

fattycatty82 · 15/01/2022 09:42

My consultants appointment was postponed by 6 weeks so now the end of February. I'll listen to what she says but the only reason I'm under consultants care is because I'm 39 and I don't really think it's justified, especially after a perfectly straight forward previous birth... even if it's was a long time ago.

One thing I've learnt from the antenatal classes and some of the books I've been reading is that I decide what does and doesn't happen. I can say no to anything. @GinnyBee I didn't know you could choose to have a c section but I think it's good women have the birth they want and are most comfortable with x

EastMidsGem · 15/01/2022 10:35

I would also say Lou-ee but it is a lovely name

We have a shortlist but have only really spent time talking through it once. I like several of the names and they sound right so I think I may let the hubby decide

My MIL is trying to encourage us to get things from JL but I find them so expensive! We are going to a Mamas & Papas section in a Next Home store in Solihull next weekend to have a look at the prams/travel systems. We found one online we like the look at somewhere else but we're hoping we may get to see it there so we can test it out in person

GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 10:45

@fattycatty82 I don’t think 20 years ago you could, it’s fairly recent I believe to be able to request one without medical indication.

@EastMidsGem look at Babybabyonline too, they have premises in Solihull and stock loads of pram brands! We’re going to book an appointment there once we figure out a shortlist of the ones we want to see xx

EastMidsGem · 15/01/2022 10:49

@GinnyBee ooh thank you, will have a look. It's my husbands parents that live in Solihull so we're tying it in with a visit to them. We live about an hour away

GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 11:12

@EastMidsGem we’re about 45 minutes away, south of B’ham x

EastMidsGem · 15/01/2022 11:17

@GinnyBee do you know if you have to make an appointment or can you walk in and have a mooch around? I'm already browsing the website, they have so many of the things we've already looked at elsewhere at the same price or slightly cheaper, thank you 🥰 x

itssquidstella · 15/01/2022 12:29

@aNewYorkerInLondon I think Lou-ee.

I hate Louis pronounced 'Lewis' - it's French, you don't pronounce the 's'!

LS2020 · 15/01/2022 14:04

@aNewYorkerInLondon I’m a northerner and I would pronounce as Lou-ee if that helps 🙂

Thanks for setting up the new thread @Bubbasmama2017

GinnyBee · 15/01/2022 14:25

@EastMidsGem I don’t know sorry! I know there’s a page for appointments though but last I looked all days were showing green so I’d expect it to be easy enough to make an appoinment

Thank you lovely. I was dreading it this morning and to make matters worse have woke up weeing blood - turns out I have a urine infection. The scan was described as 'technically difficult' and she kept mentioning that I'd have extra scans due to my high BMI, and had I been seen by the consultant, was my GTT booked in. I just wanted her to stop going on about it. Then she said that baby was in an awkward position but it was made more difficult due to the layers of fat she also had to view through. Sad

TunaJacket · 15/01/2022 16:06

How much weight has everyone put on?

I’m 23 weeks on Monday and only put on about 5/6 pounds. Baby was measuring okay at the scan so I’m sure everything is fine, it’s just online it said average weight gain is 12-15 by now 🤔

Bubbasmama2017 · 15/01/2022 16:55

@tunajacket I've gained about 20lbs but most of that went on by week 16 I think! Had a terrible diet during the worst of my morning sickness and haven't really gained since before Christmas. I was worried about it before but as I'm not gaining much in the last month or so I'm not too bothered now. I gained 4 stone with my daughter and still had a stone and a bit to lose when I got pregnant this time!

OP posts:
EastMidsGem · 15/01/2022 17:39

@fejkalove well I would try to let some of those comments go over your head because it's not recommended that you diet during pregnancy so there's nothing we can do about it except be careful not to gain too much extra. It really isn't helpful when medical staff make comments like that - it isn't as though you can do anything to make it better by the next scan! I have a very high BMI and although it's in my notes, they barely mention it to be honest so it really must depend on the doctors/midwives/sonographers you happen to get.

Also the baby being in an awkward position does just happen sometimes regardless of your weight. I know a friend of mine has to go back twice after her 20 week scan as the baby wasn't in the right position and she wasn't overweight
