Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

@Kittycaz, hope today went well for you!

Kittycaz · 16/02/2022 19:18

Hey, everythings fine I'm measuring a week ahead with baby size and weight but they didn't change my due date. The midwife from the pregnancy day care unit said it's quite common in taller women for fundal height to be quite high. He's head down so hopefully he stays that way til birth.

Luckygreenduck · 16/02/2022 22:17

Definitely feeling my bump has had a growth spurt and getting heartburn now as well.
Has anyone done any Antenatal classes? My midwife said it's important to do some but doesn't sound like there are any NHS ones in my area. I am likely to be having a c section so don't really feel weeks learning about birth would be useful. Looking for something a bit more baby focused for my husband and I.
A big part of me thinks we will just work it out though? Probably being very naive!

morphe · 16/02/2022 23:34

@Kittycaz Glad everything is looking good and the scan went OK.

@aNewYorkerinLondon a 7 hour wait sounds frustrating! I hope the BP meds do the trick.

I'm got an appointment tomorrow to discuss my GD management. I've been better with cutting the obvious rubbish from my diet but been feeling too tired to be very active much. The awful weather is not encouraging me to get out much either.

I've done a big online shop to get the basics like vests and sleepsuits in the first few sizes. I kept trying to buy them in store but they've never had first size/0-3m sizes in stock. Think I have everything now for my hospital bag, though I haven't actually started packing it.

@Luckygreenduck I did NHS antenatal classes with my last baby, but like you I was booked in for a c.section so quite a lot of the information was irrelevant. It was only a few sessions though, and I'm sure all the useful information could be found online (there are probably online antenatal classes around) or in a good book. I think the main advantage of doing classes is meeting other local mums, but we never stayed in touch with anyone we met there.

Sarah239 · 17/02/2022 13:24

@Luckygreenduck I have booked NCT which starts late March, the one I originally booked actually got cancelled due to lack of interest so they swapped me to another! A lot of people have told me they highly recommend it to meet local new parents though.

We have had our pushchair and car seat delivered today... exciting! Just wondering what everyone else has done regarding packaging/if you might have to return it (God forbid if something bad happened... hopefully John Lewis would have exceptional circumstances for that)? And I'm told there is some superstition about not assembling/storing in the house but 1) I think I'm too excited for that and 2) need to assemble it to check it works, surely?!

Kittycaz · 17/02/2022 15:36

Sadly @Luckygreenduck the NHS doesn't have allot of antenatal classes due to covid and short staff. When I went to the hospital yesterday there was a poster saying they have an antenatal class from 32 weeks in physio department. Just rang them up and turns out it was an old poster from pre covid. I'd also been booked in for a breast feeding class next month but they have had to cancel due to short staff and next one is end of April which I don't think I'll be able to make it to with being close to due date. Gonna ask midwife at my 31 week apt if there's any one she can refer me to just so i have a few coping strategies.
@Sarah239 I put up my moses basket and pram to see if they worked and were suitable and then dismantled and put them back in box. I feel good I did as I'm more confident when I get to the stage of having to assemble fast incase LO comes early.

Sounds like what happened with me @Sarah239! There was only 1 other person booked on mine so got moved to somewhere 30 miles away...bit gutted but thankfully today I've managed to find 1 space left on a local course (just much later than I had hoped!)

YfenniChristie · 17/02/2022 16:25

I've only just booked us into a NCT class 🤦🏼‍♀️ For some reason I expected there to be more on offer, but the ones closest to us finish too close to my due date to want to risk it, so we're going to one about 5-6 miles away in another town.

Apart from that, I have my first growth scan tomorrow afternoon. I think I'm going to call the hospital an hour or two before to check if it's still going ahead, but already getting a earful from my mother about how I shouldn't risk driving. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Kittycaz · 17/02/2022 19:55

Just ordered a maternity ball. The core one 75cm as a friend said it's good for back pain. What do i do just sit on it? It's mainly for taking with me to labour.

Kittycaz · 17/02/2022 19:57

@yfenniChristie be careful tomorrow looks like it's gonna be horrible with the storm.

YfenniChristie · 18/02/2022 08:49

@Kittycaz I will! The growth scan isn't until after 3pm this afternoon, so I'm planning on calling the Unit around midday-1ish to see if it's still going ahead. DH wants me to keep him informed cause if it is going ahead, he's going to try and take the afternoon off so he can drive me. (I'm awful with people making a fuss - just let me crack on with things!)

GinnyBee · 18/02/2022 09:06

I'm also booked for NCT. Was originally Bump and Baby Club, but their March course didn't get enough people signed up and it was cancelled, and their next one was going to be too close to my due date (I think the final social session was going to be like 3 days before... yeah nah not risking that) so I swapped to NCT. It's early April, so also cutting it a bit close, but hopefully will be fine.

I have my GTT coming up on Monday which I'm not looking forward to. I'm sure the liquid has improved but I can't help but dread it as the stuff they made me drink when I was a toddler was absolutely disgusting! My mum had GD so I had to do a GTT when I was 2-3 years old.

KMHH · 18/02/2022 11:37

Hi everybody, hope you are all well?

I'm 28 weeks now and this is my 4th day with reduced movements, normally she kicks really strong and I feel her all day and night however, like I said this is day 4 now and I hardly feel her. I got checked out yesterday and baby is fine heartbeat is strong just putting it down to my anterior placenta but I've been feeling her really strong kicks and movements and seeing them all for the last 5 weeks so thought It was a bit strange all of a sudden they not been that strong.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? X

H0peing · 18/02/2022 12:05

I just found out that I have gestational diabetes😔 I'd had the test on Tuesday morning and was told that the results should be available within 2-3 days so I called my Midwives office this morning and when they called me back they said that I do have it, not as severe as it could be, but I will be referred to the diabetic team for advice about how to manage it with diet and given a testing kit to check my blood sugar levels. They said that they'll contact me within a week but that seems a bit too relaxed to me and I'd rather measure it ASAP. Does anyone know which testing kit they recommend/ give you? Wondering if I can get a good one on Amazon rather than waiting. Xx

SouthwestSis · 18/02/2022 12:41

Ah sorry to hear that @H0peing
Do you know much about the GD diet?
My fave snacks were cucumber & hummus, cheese and olives, and oppo ice cream for a treat!
Also walking or doing some active housework for 20 mins after meals really does help a lot to keep your blood sugar down.
I really wouldn't worry about waiting a week for the kit, it's the changes to your diet that will make the improvement (and help avoid comllications) rather than the measuring itself.

YfenniChristie · 18/02/2022 12:51

@GinnyBee I was fully prepared on Monday for the drink to be awful but it actually wasn't too bad. Closest I could compare it to was very strong orange squash. It was also a much smaller cup than I expected too.

Kittycaz · 18/02/2022 16:27

I've booked in for a 4d scan tomorrow. Am so excited am hoping LO cooperates and gives us a good smile and doesn't have his bum to the camera lol. Bet he looks so much like my DH now. At 17 weeks had a 4d taster and he looked so much like him but now he's put some weight on bet he's spitting image

H0peing · 18/02/2022 16:35

@SouthwestSis Thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it! No. I don't know anything but I guess there are books available, info online etc so I'll look into it. Thanks for your advice about snacks. What's oppo ice-cream? How has the GD journey been for you? Xx

GinnyBee · 18/02/2022 16:53

@H0peing oh that sucks. But as SouthwestSis says, the testing itself isn't going to fix it, it just helps you monitor your levels. I believe the main change in diet will be limiting carbohydrates - so bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, sugar. Basically all the comfort foods sadly, but completely possible to still have tasty healthy meals.

YfenniChristie · 18/02/2022 17:39

Just come back from the growth scan. Everything looking really good, they're happy with how everything is looking at the moment. Also confirmed that my diabetes test was clear, as is my iron levels. Has to have my blood pressure taken four times to get it to a reasonable level though!

Interestingly though, they have now stated that I have an anterior placenta! Which has answered a couple of questions on my end (movements occasionally feeling muffled), and really intrigued that it's only been picked up at 28 weeks.

H0peing · 18/02/2022 19:39

@GinnyBee Thanks for your message. It's so frustrating as I was only slightly over to meet the criteria e.g 5.8 after fasting and the criteria was 5.6 but when I had a brief conversation with the midwife for mum's with GD she said that I probably won't be allowed to have a water birth as I'll need to be monitored closely during labour due to now being high risk! I'll find out more information at my appointment next week. I don't eat a lot of carbs / sugar anyway, I already eat wholemeal/ wholewheat versions of bread, rice and pasta as the midwife recommended and I go for walks daily. I was having a teaspoon of honey in my decaf tea and ocassional treats like ice-cream at the weekend so I'm a bit gutted about having to reduce what didn't seem like much anyway but I know my baby girl is worth the effort. I won't bother buying my own test kit. The midwife also explained that the one they give me will be linked to an app so that they can see my results when I enter them 4 times per day for the rest of the pregnancy! I read on the NHS website that the ideal time to give birth with gestational diabetes is 38-40 weeks so I guess I've probably only got less than 10 weeks of testing myself 4 times per day when I get my kit etc. Hoping that the time goes fast and that my little girl isn't badly affected by the GD. Xx

H0peing · 18/02/2022 19:44

So now that I most likely can't have a water birth like I did with my DS, I'm looking into the other options more.

Wondering if anyone had a good experience with a previous DS / DD where the Labour wasn't a water birth? Xx

H0peing · 18/02/2022 19:45

@YfenniChristie Glad all was well with your growth scan. X

Kittycaz · 18/02/2022 19:53

@yfenniChristie that's good news all is well with your scan I've got an anterior placenta to. At night I feel my LO loads but during day it's muffled I thinks it's cuz at night I'm laying on my side.

GinnyBee · 18/02/2022 20:43

How have you all been today with the storm? We had a power cut for most of the afternoon and evening here. Not a full one, but only getting enough to have lights on basically. Optimistically tried whether the oven works around dinner time and yea it went on but only got warm, not hot at all. So made a cold sandwich for dinner and as soon as I sat down with my plate even the little electricity we had went out! So we had our cold dinners in candlelight.

It's back on now, fully, which is a relief.
