Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!
@aNewYorkerInLondon oh god that sounds horrible I knew about the vein thing when laying on ur back and I've been training myself from week 13 to lay on my left but god it does put it into perspective. How high was your BP? Did they suspect pre eclampsia. Am glad to hear babies good now though.

@ruibies and @mrsMay19 welcome to the forum. It's my 1st little one to its all very exciting. I'm shocked to hear uve not heard ur LO heartbeat normally at your 20 week scan they let u listen to it. I'd see if u can change midwife.

This is a strange question so I like to test things in person (I'm not an online shopping type of person) I want a moses basket for my LO but I've not found a store where I can physically touch and get a sense of how it is. Anyone know any shops that have moses baskets in stock that you can actually go in and feel? I've tried range and John Lewis and a few independant baby shops.
Have you tried Smyths Toys?
It's so hard now Mothercare doesn't exist!

fejkalove · 26/01/2022 20:49

I'm off to the Baby & Toddler Show in Bristol at the weekend...hoping it'll be useful! Has anyone else been/going?

fattycatty82 · 26/01/2022 21:03

@fejkalove no but I really wanted to go to the baby show in London in October! I've got everything now though so I'd only find more things to spend my money on 😂

Kittycaz · 26/01/2022 22:00

@fejkalove smyths have bedside cribs but not moses baskets. All though if I can't find a moses basket I will probably go with a bed side crib. I'd love to go to a baby show but Bristol is to far from me. Gonna have a look see if there's any near me.

Ahh you got to go to the proper Baby Show!! I wish I'd gone to that, this one is much smaller scale but hoping it won't be too bad!

TashieWoo · 26/01/2022 22:27

@fejkalove I’m planning on going to one nearer me at the beginning of April, will be interesting to hear your thoughts after you’ve been!

Absolutely, will let you know! Smile

I'm impressed with everyone tracking the kicks and movements so closely. I've found it hard to establish a pattern. I know she's very active at night and intermittently through the day, but can't really link it to mealtimes etc.

@aNewYorkerInLondon what an eventful day! I try to sleep on my left side but I sometimes lay on my back in bed just resting and I've found my breathing gets shallower. Glad the hospital have taken your concerns seriously and hope the BP meds get the issue sorted.

@fattycatty82 I've had some mood swings recently as well, although it's not really baby related but more work/housing stress. I don't have much of a relationship with my mum either, I find her a bit too interfering so I don't tend to discuss the baby with her.

@Ruibies welcome! Yep it's definitely starting to feel real. Mine is due in early May but realistically it will probably be end of April. I've finally just bought my first few clothes (some Christmassy outfits for 6m+ as they were on sale) although I don't have any clothes yet for when baby is actually newborn!

With a bouncer, last time I just got the cheapest one from Argos, which did the job (I just found it a useful place to park the baby when I was busy, e.g. I'd bring it into the bathroom so I could shower. But she didn't spend long periods in it). I've given it away now but will probably get the same. Sometimes I went for the most basic/cheapest model of baby items, but other things we splurged on....no real logic to the choices really, just what felt right at the time.

LS2020 · 27/01/2022 07:38

@Kittycaz My birthdays the 12th so we’ve booked a 4D scan for that which I’m so excited for! They turned on when we went for a 17 week reassurance scan and was so amazing at that point when they were smaller so deffo think worth it.

@aNewYorkerInLondon what a day you had but glad you’re home and all is ultimately ok with baba ❤️

@Ruibies @MrsMay19 welcome to the thread!

@fejkalove ooh let me know how it goes, I’m booked to the Manchester one in March (got free tickets with Emma’s diary) so hoping is good for last minute purchases 🤞🏻

@morphe yeah I’m thinking going with cheaper option on the bouncer at least until I know what baby likes and how to be settled down as otherwise what happens if you get one that swings and they like to be bounced?!

Just catching up, I've had a manic few days! Got the midwife today for 25 week appt which is good as I've also been worrying about movements but feeling something every so often, anxiety is getting the better of me so it's hard to know what's anxiety and what's a genuine concern. Sorry you had a scare @aNewYorkerInLondon that sounds stressful! I'm waking up on my back so much at the moment just can't get comfy on the left so try the right and end up on my back at lots of point's during the night.
The baby show sounds good @fejkalove I'm quite close to Bristol but hadn't seen anything advertised, do you need a ticket?
I really need to work out if I want to get another smaller cot for our room til they're in their own room but haven't had the time to go to any shops I might see if my daughter will go round a few with me next week.
Has anyone decided a name? We're really struggling!

Hello @Bubbasmama2017 Yes you need tickets but they are offering free ones, which is where I got mine:

https://babyandtoddlershowbristol.seetickets.com/tour/baby-toddler-show?OfferCode=FB70&utmsource=facebook&utmmmedium=cpc&fbclid=IwAR0Xgz5iRyf6SOW2G-coeYj2O7chgXQNJQ3jQnYgLOcSjggapFpHV0JzbuUaemmAXpwJvXoxJ9xNLfmZZPPzkHMWKVS55uQ6sIXXkB2bI1oXcr9LgeCZ1312XByy5gm7Oi9co97IptW2H8HfXwsyfbyOOrD-ZailW26as4bptam7BRf0-ZBa6PzAVyYY_MkGUJhRyz6AyOr8rgepi6I

Hope that works for you, let me know if not and I'll PM you.

YfenniChristie · 27/01/2022 09:23

Morning everyone! Was woken up at 5am by the baby having a "tantrum." I'd moved from my left side to my right, and I guess the baby was comfy 'cause there was lots of powerful kicking going on for a while 😂

Had a chat with my line manager and boss yesterday about my duties while I'm off work. It sounds like my duties will be spread across my colleagues, rather than hiring cover, which is fine but I get the impression that certain aspects will be wound down while I'm off. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little concerned with how things will be done while I'm on maternity leave as I'm the only person who does my role/duties and there's very little "buy in" from colleagues, no matter how hard I try.

@Bubbasmama2017 Funny you mention names. We have sorted out first names, but DH told me yesterday that he thought the middle name I'd chosen for a girl is too long - especially as we have double-barrelled last names. I disagree and don't think it's a problem, so we're currently at a standoff. 😅

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/01/2022 09:39

@yfennichristie I had the same chat with my manager yesterday and it made me feel a little bit rubbish tbh! Like they don't think my work load is enough to need cover or something? I think once we're not there they will notice that things aren't getting done and have to hire cover! I had mat cover for my first pregnancy but was full time in a different role then, I am part time now but my boss definitely won't be able to cover my work!

We are really struggling with names 🙈 I’ve got about 3 that we could use but nothing that really grabs me at all 🤣

Kittycaz · 27/01/2022 10:26

I knew what I was gonna name my LO as soon as I heard we were having a boy and even now I call him by his name when he's kicking me or when I just feel like talking to him. I've even made a little tune with his name in I sing when doing dishes lol. He's merrily summersaulting atm. I've got a funeral Monday and just put on what I normally wear for funerals and nothing fits so off to shop at weekend to buy some maternity clothes suitable for a funeral.

GinnyBee · 27/01/2022 11:02

My role is also being dumped on a colleague's desk, which tbf I kind of agree with. I don't have enough to do for the hours I'm contracted, and I don't think he does either. The person I replaced back in August wasn't very efficient and grossly overestimated how much time it takes (she was full time and doing kind of a hybrid role of two functions, I'm only part time and doing one of the jobs) so as long as I can train the colleague well enough then I think it will be fine.

I'm starting to have difficulty breathing now! I thought it'd be a bit longer yet until my lungs run out of space, but I'm definitely feeling breathless. On a positive note it's helping my posture as I have to stay really upright to feel like I'm getting enough air in 😅 I'm only 24 weeks FFS!

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/01/2022 11:11

@Kittycaz that's lovely! I thought we had a name but started talking to the baby and it wasn't sounding right so back to the drawing board!
Yeah breathing especially after picking something off the floor or going upstairs is much harder than I thought it would be at this stage in the pregnancy. I think I'm wanting the next couple of weeks to go fast so I can be in the 3rd trimester! It feels like the end goal is much closer then!

Ruibies · 27/01/2022 11:11

Thanks for all the welcome messages!

I also had a chat with my boss about mat leave and returning to work, and they are thinking to get someone to cover me (I do an annual project) but then when I come back they want me to do something else. It's got me a bit anxious as the 'something else' really depends on how other projects and things pan out while I'm off, so I'll have no idea what I'm coming back to. Trying not to worry about it for now, it seems so far away at the moment, but it's kind of sitting there in the back of my mind!

On names, we have a top girl name for sure, and about 3 in the mix for boys where I think there is a favourite but keep wavering to the others. We had a different girl name we both LOVED but couldn't agree on spelling and no one wanted to compromise haha so we took it off the table. DH isn't as fussed about middle names so I think I might be able to get my faves in there, which he would never have gone for as first names as he thinks they are a bit out there (they're really not!).

Is anyone sharing their baby's name with friends/family beforehand? We don't know what we're having so nothing's set in stone but I've had some friends who've told their parents and got lukewarm enthusiasm so we're thinking to just keep our ideas to ourselves til we know.

Kittycaz · 27/01/2022 11:23

@Ruibies I revealed our LO name to family at Christmas and it's lovely as now when I talk about my LO with them I call him by his name. The middle name of our LO is a family tradition. My uncle, grandad, great grandad all had this name either as first name or middle name so it's a tradition thing. Made my grandad cry when I told him.

Ditto with the breathlessness I live on top floor of a block of flats (hoping to move next month if everything goes to plan) and climbing up them stairs is getting harder and harder.

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/01/2022 11:33

@ruibies I spoke to my parents about our name options and they had some strong opinions on all of them so I think when we choose one we might not mention it to them til she's here in case they have something to say about it!

OP posts:
GinnyBee · 27/01/2022 11:34

I don't even have to do anything for breathing to feel like a chore, literally just sitting here I feel like there's a weight pressing on my chest!

We have a name picked out but not revealing it until his naming ceremony. Where I'm from most babies get Christened (even though almost no one is actually religious) and it's tradition to keep the name secret until then - if you start calling them by their name before the blessing, they aren't protected and evil can find them if the name is known!

YummyMummyXoX · 27/01/2022 13:42

Hope everyone is well
I've ended up in hospital awaiting a transfusion/infusion as my immune system is attacking my blood cells and destroying them. Got to be kept in so going to be a funny couple of days. On the plus baby is fine she's just wreeking havoc on my body Shock x

GinnyBee · 27/01/2022 13:54

Oh god @YummyMummyXoX ! Hope you get better soon! That doesn't sound fun at all.

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/01/2022 14:05

Hope you're ok @YummyMummyXoX and have some things to keep you distracted!
