Hi all I hope I've done this right.

@fejkalove just catching up I haven't noticed anything on my notes although my BMI is in over weight category too which was brought up by the midwife but they haven't seemed too concerned at scans. Let us know how you get on! I've got a growth scan on Monday as seeing a consultant so maybe they'll mention it to me then as well.

@luckygreenduck I've had morning sickness again too, when I first got covid last week my taste and smell went and the sickness seemed to go too but it's back with a vengeance the last couple of days!
Also been incredibly tired which I put down to covid but I think is just pregnancy!

@TunaJacket I feel exactly the same about those scans! I'd love to see her again... but yeah same 😂

Kittycaz · 25/01/2022 16:32

25 week appointment went well they've signed me up to some breast feeding classes. When she laid me down to listen to LO heartbeat with doppler he decided to play a game of run away and kept moving away from the doppler and then gave it a massive kick after 5 mins he allowed her to play his heartbeat. The midwife laughed so much said its lovely to hear and see as u could see my bump move. Only downside I had a different midwife again. I've had 3 different ones at this stage. They perscribed me gaviscon for heartburn also.

@EastMidsGem that's lovely to hear that your LO is moving about again such an amazing feeling. Smile

KMHH · 25/01/2022 17:59

Does anyone have an anterior placenta and had "quiet" days? I was worried when I found out at first however, I've been feeling movements quite earlier on and have been regular and stronger the last 3 weeks. The last 2 days I've had movements but not as regular or as strong. Just wondering if this could be the placenta thing or not? X

Bubbasmama2017 · 25/01/2022 18:11

I've also had some quiet days (anterior placenta too) and saw the midwife last week for her to listen to the heart beat so I felt reassured. I thought she had a pattern but the last week has been all over the place, sometimes feeling a lot and keeping me awake then other days hardly feeling anything at all

itssquidstella · 25/01/2022 18:26

@KMHH Yes, me! I do feel him every day now (23+2) but some days the movements are really strong and sometimes they feel fainter. When they feel fainter they also feel more internal, if that makes sense, so I think it's to do with his position.

fejkalove · 25/01/2022 19:02

Just curious to know if anyone has gone for a baby bouncer/swing and what you've picked? I really like the look of the Baby Bjorn or Mamaroo but so expensive to not know if they're going to like it or not...!

Sarah239 · 25/01/2022 21:22

Does anyone else feel like their bump is ballooning (I'm at 24 weeks).

I keep worrying about how much sugar I'm eating and if this is affecting my baby 😔

Midwife yesterday said heartbeat was perfect at 151bpm but it actually worried me as I looked back and it was 148bpm at 16 weeks. Isn't it meant to get slower as the weeks pass, not stay the same? Maybe not yet? Does anyone else have their comparison?

LS2020 · 25/01/2022 21:33

@Kittycaz so glad your appointment went well! My midwife made an odd comment on breastfeeding support in mine today and they can provide support but when I said that’s useful to know and would be keen, she just sort of nodded at me so strange! Indigestion is ramping up for me too 😔

Had a bit of better luck on heartbeat, they were pretty wiggly but she let me take a couple of recordings as I’m going to get a bear with a voice box in for my OH for valentines (love being able to pass baby stuff off as presents atm 😂)

@fejkalove I would like to know this too as bouncers completely baffle me.. what’s desirable in one?! What do I look for?!

@Sarah239 I’ll see if midwife put on my notes today but she did say it slows down over time when I asked for the heartbeat to be recorded today and I took that as a longer over time thing. I don’t see why would overly change until they have less room and don’t move as much?

LS2020 · 25/01/2022 21:36

@Sarah239 this is from my notes.. seems pretty up and down tbh!

Sarah239 · 25/01/2022 22:19

@LS2020 ok that's really reassuring thank you! ❤️ Just wanted to know someone else's for comparison

Kittycaz · 25/01/2022 22:26

@fejkalove we brought the graco swing from smyths we went into store and my Dh loved it and brought it so didn't really give me chance to object lol.

@LS2020 they gave me an email address so I've emailed them apparently its a zoom class. That's a lovely idea about the heartbeat bear, I've been half debating treating hubby to 4d scan for valentines day (but also cuz I wanna see him again)

@Sarah239 my LO heartbeat has been really fast like galloping horses and been around 160 to 170 depending on how active he's being. I think it varies like our heartbeat varies if your worried contact midwife though.

TashieWoo · 25/01/2022 22:55

@Sarah239 I’ll check my notes properly tomorrow as I’m in bed now but I’m pretty sure my baby’s heartbeat has stayed the same at around 150.

My bump is ballooning a bit now at 26+2, my belly button has gone flat now! I’m using the Weleda stretch mark oil religiously too.

Glad your appointment went well @Kittycaz, your midwife sounds lovely! I’ve seen a different one every time too and they’ve all been great but I’m hoping we will see the one I had at booking in for my 28 week appointment as she was the best, and she wrote on my notes when she did clinics so I could book in with her again. Now I’m a bit more confident with the hospital appointments I actually asked for a Wednesday rather than just taking anything at any time 😀

fejkalove · 25/01/2022 23:16

@LS2020 I've no idea if I'm honest haha...I tried googling and found one that had good recommendations, I'll see if I can find it out!

@Kittycaz thank you - will have a look at that one! Smile

MrsMay19 · 26/01/2022 09:58

Hi I’m new :) I’ve never had my baby’s heart rate listened to 😳 I haven’t found my midwife very supportive though. I’ve not received the results of the blood tests they did at my 12 week scan and she just kept telling me how unimportant the 16 week appointment was. It’s my first pregnancy so don’t know what’s normal!

GinnyBee · 26/01/2022 10:11

Gosh @MrsMay19 that's awful! Makes you wonder what made her get into the job if she doesn't seem to care about it! I'd chase those blood results! And maybe even request to switch midwives, you don't have to put up with someone who doesn't offer you the service you need.

I'm also perplexed about bouncers! So many options and so much variation with price! What do you get for £250 with BabyBjörn that you don't get for £40 with BabaBing? At least so far most baby things we've purchased or about to are roughly in the same ballpark price wise, and the more expensive options clearly offer features that the cheaper ones don't (which doesn't necessarily mean more money means better product, as it can just be that they fit a more specific situation, like all-terrain vs. city prams), but with bouncers I just don't know!

Ruibies · 26/01/2022 10:41

Hi everyone, hope it's ok to join you. I'm due May 12th with our first baby, we didn't find out the sex. It's all starting to feel very real this side of Christmas!

I've got my next midwife appt this week at 25+1. We've started getting bits ready - we have just finished converting one half of our shed into an office to make room for a nursery in our current spare room/office. Ordered a pram and car seat but will pick them up in March. I've had to put myself on a clothes ban as I went a little nuts so we definitely have enough sleepsuits and vests haha. I'm picking up a pack of nappies/wipes every few weekly shops to just build a bit of a supply, and starting to look into bottles, steriliser, prep machine etc.

Every time I think 'oh we're pretty much sorted' I remember all the bits yet to do - haven't even started thinking about a hospital bag, or bouncer, we don't have a cot or moses basket haha. I'm looking at how to intro the dog to the baby at the moment as a bit nervous on that front - does anyone have any tips/experience?

Hope everyone is doing well - I can't say that I'm really enjoying pregnancy but lucky enough to be low-risk and cooking along ok, so can't complain.

GinnyBee · 26/01/2022 11:51

@Ruibies welcome to the gang! We have a dog too and I'm quite excited actually to see how they get on, I expect my boy to be super excited and lovely with the baby as they tend to be as a breed characteristic. I think a bit closer to the time I will start playing some baby crying sounds and some people recommend bringing home a towel that smells of baby before bringing the actual baby, but depending on how long you're in the hospital this may be difficult.

MrsMay19 · 26/01/2022 12:01

@GinnyBee yeah exactly I’ve only seen her once and that was her she just made me feel like I was wasting her time 🥺 I thought I was organised but you lot have made me realise I haven’t sorted anything much 🙈 I have a pram/ car seat and all the nursery furniture, some clothes and a bath seat but literally nothing else! Have started looking at bedside cribs, but wanted to get the nursery done so I have somewhere to put everything 🤣

Ahh that's so lovely, great to have confidence in your boy! Yes I've got the newborn sounds out already, lots of crying but also some squeaky laughter just to mix things up. So far ours doesn't bat an eyelid which is good! Great idea with the blanket too, might have to see if DH can head home a little early with something.

Our dog's a rescue and she's got some issues, mainly when out and about so home really is her safe zone, and I'm hoping baby won't be too upsetting for her 😅 but she's very people focused so I hope once she realises the baby is family she'll just love on him/her the way she does with everyone else. Fingers crossed!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 26/01/2022 16:57

Hi Ladies! Well, I had a day to be sure.

For the past week or so, Baby Boy has been moving less than he was, and when he did, it wasn't as forceful of kicks as I had gotten used to. So I call the midwife line on Monday and she said to come into the maternity day assessment clinic at Queen Charlotte's, which I did. They listed to baby's heartbeat and were happy with it, but wanted me to have a scan too, to be sure that all is well. The ultrasound department couldn't take me on Monday, so I had to go back today.

I showed up early, had my scan, looked good. Yay! OK, now I am supposed to go back to the day assessment clinic so that they can evaluate the results and I can be on my way. Not so fast! They now want to do a continuous fetal heartbeat monitoring to check that. So, they hooked me up to that and we did that for a while. I have high BP and I've told them that I think we need to up my dose because it is OK after a dose but then creeps up in the hours before the next dose, so they were checking that too while I was sitting there. It came time for my next dose, so they had me take it so they could observe what happened. Here's where things got interesting.

I had been laying semi-reclined on my back for a long time at this point. A few minutes after I took my BP meds, I suddenly felt very warm and flushed and was having a hard time breathing. I started to get quite faint and feeling weak and sleepy as though I were about to pass out. I called the midwife over and told her I felt unwell. My BP had dropped about 40 points in a matter of minutes because the meds combined with laying on my back, causing baby to put pressure on my vena cava. Baby's heartbeat dropped for a little bit too. They quickly put me on my left side and within a few minutes I was feeling better and my BP was normal.

Frankly, this scared to sh*t out of me, but I'm relieved everything is OK. On the upside, they now agree that my dose should be increased to avoid swings in my BP.

I can now say from experience that yes, laying on your back CAN cause baby to put pressure on the vena cava and cause BP to drop, which can affect baby's heart rate too.

I hope everyone else has had an uneventful day!

P.S. welcome @Ruibies!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 26/01/2022 16:59

At least baby is doing really well :-)

fattycatty82 · 26/01/2022 17:26

@aNewYorkerInLondon what a day you've had indeed, blimey hope you're feeling ok now it sounds like an ordeal. At least all is ok with your little one though. Well done for getting checked out.

I'm feeling really sorry for myself today and I keep trying to remind myself how lucky I am!! I've been a bit overtired/stressed because of work and the last few days I've had a weird twitching eyelid! It's like my heart beating in my eye and it's been driving me nuts.

I've been feeling down too as I wish I had a better relationship with my mum, some other pregnant ladies I know are always chatting to their mums about things - their worries, concerns or even just stuff they're buying the baby but I can honestly say I really don't think my mum could care less! She lives abroad so I only speak to her on video calls maybe once a week or less and I feel like she's just not that interested when I chat to her about baby stuff. I guess we're not that close really it is a shame. I just hope I have a much better relationship with this little one 💗

I'm also turning 40 in March and had always vowed to be somewhere lovely and hot.. we were looking into a holiday when I found out I was pregnant. But obviously due to wanting to save money and annual leave my plans have now been scaled down to a pub lunch (which my sister in law has already said she can't make). Oh poor me, first world problems hey!!

I need to write a list of all the good things I have going on that I'm grateful for because self pity is not a good quality!!

I hope everyone is in better spirits than me today!! Nothing a takeaway and a rant to my poor other half won't solve I'm sure 😂

TashieWoo · 26/01/2022 18:45

@fattycatty82 I hope you have a nice evening and can relax a bit. Can you see if you can scale down work a bit so it isn’t as stressful for you? I get that eyelid twitching thing when I’m tired too. I’m sorry you are feeling down about your mum not being so interested in the baby, and I think what you’re feeling is valid. Do you have plans for her to meet the baby when they are born?

@aNewYorkerInLondon what a day you’ve had - glad all is well with you and baby though and hope the increased BP meds dosage helps you.

I’m knackered this evening, was at my desk this morning then on a 5 hour construction site walk around, was an interesting day and good to get out but I need to put my feet up now! Which I can after I’ve cooked dinner Smile.

fejkalove · 26/01/2022 18:49

@aNewYorkerInLondon oh goodness, what an eventful day you've had!! Glad your BP has settled and hope you're feeling okay after the ordeal! Glad to hear baby is doing well also!

@fattycatty82 Sorry to hear you're feeling a little down today too. You will cherish the relationship with your one so much more knowing that too. Hope the takeaway helps ease the problems!

Kittycaz · 26/01/2022 19:48

@aNewYorkerInLondon oh god that sounds horrible I knew about the vein thing when laying on ur back and I've been training myself from week 13 to lay on my left but god it does put it into perspective. How high was your BP? Did they suspect pre eclampsia. Am glad to hear babies good now though.

@ruibies and @mrsMay19 welcome to the forum. It's my 1st little one to its all very exciting. I'm shocked to hear uve not heard ur LO heartbeat normally at your 20 week scan they let u listen to it. I'd see if u can change midwife.

This is a strange question so I like to test things in person (I'm not an online shopping type of person) I want a moses basket for my LO but I've not found a store where I can physically touch and get a sense of how it is. Anyone know any shops that have moses baskets in stock that you can actually go in and feel? I've tried range and John Lewis and a few independant baby shops.
