It may also be possible for DH to pick up some more shifts as at the moment he's constrained by needing to do childcare some days, but while I'm on mat leave, I should be able to cope with both of them (famous last words!)

annlee3817 · 26/01/2022 19:01

Also lucky here, I get six months full pay and then DH's work are giving him six months full pay paternity leave when mine finishes, so we're sharing the 12 months. I'll be working from home three days a week, so will be nice to still be around most of the time.

surprised12 · 26/01/2022 19:02
@surprised12 well it's a long story with the NHS job and I'm actually going through an employment tribunal - so may get lucky and win, that will more then cover my mat leave, but not holding out much hope!! 😢 x
Ahhh I'll keep my fingers crossed but awful that you have to go through that!!

annlee3817 · 26/01/2022 19:03

@karla1313 eating bananas is meant to help cramps, that was on the original thread

Tor88 · 26/01/2022 19:32

I get 3 months full day and 3 months half pay. I'd love to take a year but it's gonna be really difficult to make ends meet, a huge drop on income. So it depends what we can save between now and then! Also supposed to be going on a long postponed honeymoon in April which we are considering re thinking coz of money 😭😭 this honeymoon had been a bit cursed 😅

G2196 · 26/01/2022 19:45

Hi all. Found out day before my birthday (21st jan) that I’m pregnant with baby number 3!
Long story short my youngest who is 3 and a bit, before I had him I had an ectopic. This pregnancy I’ve had bleeding so I’ve had bloods done Monday & today hopefully should find out if my hcg is rising nicely. I’m due 22nd going by LMP. How is everyone?

girafferafferaffe · 26/01/2022 19:52

I'm going to have to take 9 months and struggle through the last 3 with only SMP. Is what it is I guess! Childcare fees will be a shit for a couple of years and then hopefully go down, then only use the free hours basically. Trying to look at it as short term. But it will be extra annoying to be paying all of that again... I'll have to find a childminder this time because can't afford £38 a day for a nursery!!

annlee3817 · 26/01/2022 20:24

@girafferafferaffe I wish nursery was that here, it was £55 a day here four years ago, so dreading seeing how much it is now

girafferafferaffe · 26/01/2022 20:30
@girafferafferaffe I wish nursery was that here, it was £55 a day here four years ago, so dreading seeing how much it is now
I say a day, I mean half a day as I work 9:30-2 so they have an 'extended morning' which is £38. When I worked in london it was £70 a day. Felt sick paying that.

annlee3817 · 26/01/2022 20:38

Ah that makes sense, yep London prices are horrendous aren't they

girafferafferaffe · 26/01/2022 20:41

It was awful. One of the reasons we moved far away!!

Jenna240 · 26/01/2022 21:18
@Jenna240 how many weeks did u think u were?
They couldn't pin point how many weeks I was when I had my booking in appointment with the midwife as my periods are very irregular due to pcos. She went from my lmp which was 12 Nov and would've made me 10 or 11 weeks. I didn't think I was that far on at all so it wasn't a shock when I went today and they said one 5 weeks and one day. 5 weeks and on day matches my dates with where I think we conceived. Hoping to see more at my scan in 2 weeks.

Pinkflamingofly · 26/01/2022 21:45

I was also worried about childcare costs but if I take a whole year off, my youngest will be 3 when I go back and will start getting the free 30 hours. Then I'll have to pay for the new baby and the kids after school clubs as I'm doing at the minute, so I'll be in the exact same position as now.

Pinkflamingofly · 26/01/2022 21:46

@jenna240 I hope your next scan goes well and that the wait doesn't seem too long. I feel like the days are dragging on, cant wait to be out of the first trimester

IzzyLeigh · 26/01/2022 22:02

hi all! New here and very very anxious. According to my period/pregnancy app, I'm 5+5 today with a due date of September 24.
I've been experiencing spotting (light pink to light brownish-pink) off and on since Saturday, seemingly more frequent now but still no red or cramping.
Waiting to get my blood HCG level results for more info (prob tomorrow).
You all seem really lovely, so I wanted to pop in and say hi and that I hope I'll be able to be to be a part of this community Cake

bailey21 · 27/01/2022 03:28

Little bit nervous I'm 6 weeks 5 days and just had some red spotting when I went to the toilet only 1 wipe worth but still enough now to send me into full panic mode as fhis is my first pregnancy. This first 12 weeks is so anxiety inducing isn't it!

madeleine85 · 27/01/2022 04:57

@bailey21 hope you’re feeling ok! The first 12 weeks, Honestly the first 25 weeks is a stress fest 🤦‍♀️. I only really relaxed last time when I knew she likely could survive on her own if born.

In good news another mum gave me a fetal Doppler for heartbeat listening and I was like what the hell I’ll try it tonight. They usually start working at 12 weeks plus, I’m 8.5-9 and I could hear the heartbeat tonight ❤️. I’m sure it’s the baby as it was 125 bpm and that’s what my dd’s heartbeat was when I used to listen to her. Weirdly I know what side he’s on due to the ultrasound, and I’ve been convinced I could feel a fast pulse in my belly if I laid my hand on it in one spot at night time when in bed, and it turns out it is! I know that doesn’t solve genetic testing abnormalities checks, but just knowing I can listen now is making me feel so much better!

Hi
I'm around 6 weeks and so anxious. Has anyone experienced symptoms that come and go? I had been waking up each morning feeling sick and it was even worse at night. Yesterday I woke up feeling fine with no sickness at all and now can't help but worry it means something is wrongConfused

I have symptoms that come and go. Some days I feel very sick, some days nothing. It is a bit nerve-wracking when they go but so far they've always come back. I was the same with DD, so that helps.
saltedcaramelanything · 27/01/2022 07:37

5wks & now I've tested positive for covid. I'm kinda freaking out about what, if any impact having covid will have being so early on. I don't even have a midwife contact yet, so no one to call and speak to,

girafferafferaffe · 27/01/2022 07:48

Omg I am covered in spots. Just looking and feeling sooo great right now 🤦🏻‍♀️

Whoknew22 · 27/01/2022 08:28

Childcare costs are such a worry aren’t they? We are £45 a day and my LB goes 3 full days a week. He will be 3 in august though so that will be good. Last time I took 9 months off but then went back and paid £600 a month nursery fees so to be honest would have preferred to just take the year.

I work for the NHS so mat leave isn’t the worst but it’s still a big drop and I am the main earner. Do you know what though, you always get by. The first few weeks of mat leave you are recovering and spend nothing. Especially if people bring round dinners etc. it’s definitely a good request to ask your nearest and dearest. we didn’t go out for dinners for ages and went to lots of free kids things so it can be done.

We also breastfed and used cloth nappies which isn’t for everyone but saved us a fortune. Also got lots of things second hand so it really can be a low spending time off. I’ve started buying extra washing machine tablets etc to store away for mat leave and will do the same with other stuff. Every little helps xx

Gizmo16 · 27/01/2022 09:02

Hi everyone! I just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant (due end September!) after years of trying and also having PCOS. Im so excited but scared!
I’ve done my chosen hospital referral but I’ve read appts don’t usually come through till 8-10 weeks. I’m nervous about what to do until then to ensure the baby is ok - any advice?

EllieJai44 · 27/01/2022 09:15

@Gizmo16 congratulations! You could book a private early scan for about 6-7 weeks, otherwise its just a case of taking care of yourself and trying to pass the time (note it does go slow) haha

Your first scan will be at 12 weeks usually with the NHS but depending on your hospital they will probably have you in for history and bloods at 8-10 weeks :)

annlee3817 · 27/01/2022 09:30

@Gizmo16 just make sure you're taking folic acid and vitamin D, if you have anything that you are worried about such as spotting or pain you can contact the GP. Congrats :)

And congrats to the other new joiners

@Whoknew22 I tried cloth nappies last time, but only from around 8 months and used alongside normal nappies, but definitely want to try and do just cloth this time, found a 30 day trial one with the nappy lady and also found my local nappy library, so fingers crossed 🤞 also want to get cheeky wipes this time round too
