As I'm avoiding doing any of the useful stuff I should be doing I thought I'd just pop another sidecar up x

@Juno231 good luck with your scan ❤️

blackcurrantqueen · 04/01/2022 16:35

@Juno231 good luck!

@kaylsd ahh that must have been a big step cancelling the ivf appt but so exciting you are here 💗

@Crazydoglady123 annoying your consultant is being difficult, yes I was basically told I had to acknowledge the risks type thing for the birth centre!

@DKDK123 in the bin with DH!! I'm the same at the moment hormones are raging but DD is an angel even when she's not - no being mean to her😂

@Sunbird24 they will be able to give you some opioid based drugs if needed ! I had codeine with DD and some morphine I think!

@clolo I think I had braxton hicks that early even though I didn't know that's what they were!

@larrythelizard hope the nausea has coped ok with being back to reality! Lucozade sounds a good shout as has good amount of sugar etc!

@Lexber shit sorry to hear about your OH. Hope he is doing ok today? Did you speak to the MW about you testing positive ?

What about you @bez91 how are you doing? Xx

@Minster2012 condolences for your shituation 😂 how does so much come out of someone so small?? 💩

So.. little update from me..
i had my last MW appt and baby actually feels like she's turned head down now typically!
But..
i called the hospital and spoke to a doctor about getting my section date bought forwards and it's now been moved to the 17th!! I will be 38+5 which is technically earlier than they'd like but it was the only bookable slot and given everything going on they agreed they'd do it a couple of days early...
so.. no more midwife appts here and potentially a baby in less than two weeks time! I am kind of expecting to be cancelled closer to the time but these things happen! Just really hoping it doesn't !!

paintfairy · 04/01/2022 17:01

@kaylsd its great you've avoided ivf. Trust me. 🤣 Useless about the billion phone calls though. I just had to self refer, if I'd had to call my GP then I'd still be waiting on the phone. 🙄
@Juno231 agree about work. Not much you can do, but yes, probably need to tell them sooner rather than later. At least then he's got plenty of time to sort it out. This is also the longest day ever, and it's not even my scan I'm waiting for! 🤣
@Crazydoglady123 it is very difficult re the vaccination. I've not had it. I did not want any more issues adding to my fertility problems (its OK them assuming it won't but actually no one knows until its played out a bit). Obviously now though I'm thinking I could have had it. There's zero evidence its safe in pregnancy (the leaflet they give you even says its not been specifically tested) and again, someone's assumption isn't good enough for me. So clearly now I'm wishing I had it before because I definitely don't want it now. I'm lucky though I don't have children already and we both wfh. We don't really go anywhere. But the way things are currently i think I'd be more worried if we did? The whole thing is a nightmare.
@blackcurrantqueen omg. So soon?! Aaarrrgghhh. I'm sure you've only been pregnant like a few months?! 🤔🤣

So- I ordered 2 pairs of over bump maternity jeans from the DP sale but they only had black. One pair are more jeggings than jeans (didn't say that 🙄) and look ridiculous, so going back. The others are ok but dog hair sticks like mad (like my normal ones) so only suitable for going out. But at least i have some for occasions. However the over bump bit is huge, because clearly I don't have much of one yet. 🤦‍♀️ But all my normal ones I'm using the hair bobble trick with. I need a middle ground! Would under bump ones be better? I need just blue day to day ones. I'm so funny bottoms wise though not every shop fits me normally so buying online is a minefield.
Talking of which - I was nosing at prams earlier. I have no intention of buying one for ages but I know nothing about anything so not even trying to learn until the last minute is maybe a bad idea. And what on earth? I don't even understand the sub sections of them, let alone the million different kinds underneath?! Buggies, strollers, prams, travel systems- wtf? 🤷‍♀️ What do you need? And can a new baby go in anything? Or can some they not? DH said we'll have to get a shopping trolley looking at the prices. 🤭

2020mission · 04/01/2022 17:14

Good luck with your scan tonight @Juno231 😃 Try not to feel guilty about work... your baby and family comes before any job!

@paintfairy I felt the same when looking at prams for the first time. So much marketing and overpriced systems to get your head around. As long as you've got something that ticks the boxes of what you need, you're fine. For most that's likely just a safe maneuverable cot on wheels 😂 you don't always need all the gadgets.

@clolo I'm sure you can get braxton hicks early on but to be honest I didn't feel them at all during pregnancy.

Minster2012 · 04/01/2022 17:45

Big catch up

@Juno231 you don't need masses of water I literally had one coffee yesterday morning before the scan, and yeah I agree that it's a good thing to tell your boss soon after the 12 weeks scan for then to plan. And it's ahaxingvwyere kids can get 💩

Ooo you could be getting early movements @clolo, I definitely felt movements last night which then stopped me from sleeping even more as I was concentrating on it 🤪

@DKDK123 it was a shitshow but we had to commend the effort like @larrythelizard said

@paintfairy god your neighbours sound horrendous. I used to have some like that back in the day for my first house. Awful. And btw be very prepared for shit. Everywhere for years 🤪 and yeah cabbage leaves 🥬 in your bra is a thing

Did the lucozade help @larrythelizard? I have heard that it as well

@Kate105 do you use white noise? Yeah don't laugh cos Dexter will do worse! Though the amount of incriminating shit pictures I have for DS's 18th for embarrassment is unreal

@DKDK123 I have just navigated a horrible massive fight with DS, he went into time out several times for hitting me & kicking me. I never thought I'd be a calm parent and I guess I certainly don't have a calm child. But I can't deal with a DH doing a huffing 🤪

@kaylsd we did need to hose him down & you bloody wait, kids poo is horrendously smelly & then they tell you that their first few poos are like tar. Oh yes they are 😂that sounds really bad with the midwife & the gp honestly what a faff. But cancelling the IVF is a good thing, albeit scary

@Crazydoglady123 you could only make a decision (about the vaccine) based on what you felt at the time. You can always have it now surely? Keep that baby cooking a bit more 🤞🏻

@blackcurrantqueen less than 2 weeks until you meet your baby!! Like that's actually real!!

@paintfairy I found prams mind boggling however I found out from friends that all bought big expensive "travel systems" they all switched to something easier and smaller very soon so the travel system became redundant, most ended up hating the one they had. A big expensive mistake. Babies have to lie flat for the first 6 months, (well ok 5 is fine) so that's why they have the "carrycot" or you can get other prams which lie flat. We have a car seat that stays in the car so we didn't use a "car seat on the pram" we didn't find it restrictive not having something that goes on the pram. He's still in that seat 3.5 years later whereas most car seats last around 9-12 months before a child gets too big. Small wheels aren't great off road. I could go on 😜I've literally just had a H&M order delivered with lots of bump stuff in so will report back on their jeans but you can get ones which have a "normal" waistband lower then the jersey bump bit that might be better?

My consultants were happy at my (nearly an hour late) appointment, and I will be getting the extra scans so that's good 😊

My bump is def coming out now & I had horrendous sleep last night so I actually feel pregnant now 🥰

paintfairy · 04/01/2022 18:00

@2020mission but how do you know what you need? Until its too late and you realise you needed something else. 🤣
@Minster2012 I was looking at an out and about sport as I need something for off road. 🤣 But wasn't sure if that worked with a new baby? Or when it's a bit older. I also didn't know if maybe having 2 (nothing expensive) was an idea, so I had one for normal places and one that it doesn't matter about getting muddy? 🤷‍♀️ The travel system thing- i did wonder if it was necessary or not. It saves you waking the baby to get it out the car was all i did think? But you are right in that there's more flexibility with stand alone car seats. Jeez. What i would say is it needs to be easy to use alone, to fold, and lift in the car. Jeans- I hate ones that sit low usually, as I feel I'm always wanting to pull them up. That's why I'm unsure. My fat arse pulls them down!
How frustrating your consultant was that late! Grrr. But at least everything is OK. Extra scans are also a bonus!
And I drank far too much for my scan, even the lady said your bladder is really full, are you OK? 🤣 @Juno231

larrythelizard · 04/01/2022 18:22

Didn't end up trying lucozade but literally constant eating of crappy white carbs etc seems to help, not a sustainable tactic though I don't think!

@paintfairy prams are pricey, I think it's most important to (try and) work out how you'll use it and buy accordingly. We walk a lot of places and wanted something that would be OK on pavement and moderate off road. We're also tall and assumed we'd end up with a big baby (we did) so went all out on a bugaboo (fox I think?). It rarely went in the car and also I had a big car at the time so boot space wasn't really a consideration. We went to a baby show at the Excel which was horrendous but allowed us to try all the buggies one after another as all the shops were pretty disappointing (also got a decent discount). I found the ability to get DS in and out of the car in his car seat for the first 6mo useful but he did grow out of that seat sooner than I anticipated. Theres often lots of decent looking travel systems/prams on FB marketplace around me so that might also be an option?

Pleased appt went well @Minster2012 and that you finally feel pregnant 🎉

Vil10 · 04/01/2022 18:39

@Minster2012 @blackcurrantqueen yeah I'm definitely not getting the NIPT! Thankyou ladies x

@Minster2012 also pickles😍😍 loveee them, could eat a full jar on their own!! So glad your consultant was happy and that you're actually feeling pregnant now, because you are!!

@blackcurrantqueen oh I'm so so sorry for the loss of your grandma!! Sending you hugs!! Ohhh just read down that baby will be here soon!! How bloody exciting!! Your pregnancy has gone so so fast🤯

@Juno231 ive been really cold since my BFP, not sure if it's a thing like but my hands and feet are freezing!!! Good luck for your scan🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Lexber oh thet sounds awful!! You're really not having a good time of it, im sorry!! Please look after yourself too!!

@DKDK123 ohhh the huffing would piss me off too!! Like if you have something to say then say it😂

@kaylsd I can imagine thst being a big step cancelling the appointment but it's a very exciting step to take!! Also doctors are so so hard work!!

@Crazydoglady123 don't beat yourself up about the vaccine, you did what you thought was best at the time, see how you feel about it in a few weeks maybe x

@paintfairy prams are pricey, that's why I feel lucky thst my mum wants to buy us ours, I kinda have an idea what i want, but not properly looking at it yet, we walk a lot so needs to be something good for that!

Has anyone found the cereal (especially crunchy nut) helps nausea?? I felt fine this morning then as the day has gone on I've felt more and lore bloated and really nauseous, was supposed to be salmon for tea but I don't think I can stomach in so just inhaled some crunchy nut and I think it was the best bowl of cereal I've ever had

paintfairy · 04/01/2022 19:04

@larrythelizard @Vil10 its settled a bit now but I was very much on the beige foods. Just eat what you can manage at this stage. No point in making yourself feeling sick by forcing things down that don't want to go.
And I might get a 2nd hand pram (likely will) but I still need to know what I want. Its annoying most shops don't stock many that you can try. We've actually been told by my mum that they'll give us a decent amount of cash for buying things, which I didn't expect. But I still don't want to blow it on a pram. I'd rather use it sensibly.

bez91 · 04/01/2022 19:30

@blackcurrantqueen so sorry to read about your grandma. Take care, news like that adds stress to your situation too. Hopefully you can get some clarity on the section!

@Juno231 suppose work would appreciate knowing sooner rather than later it’s just hard with timings etc but also put yourself first. Hope all is good at the scan!

@paintfairy I always make the mistake of overfilling my bladder. Then they are an hour late to scan, it’s torture but I’m not very good at “half emptying” my bladder, it’s either all in or all out 😆 the buggy decision is hard. We got a travel system with DD (DH chose but it is quite heavy) so we got a small cheap stroller when she hit about 18 months. We’ll just use that again but anything goes as long as they’re suitable from birth. People rave about the Out n About Nipper for outdoorsy stuff which might help with your horse etc

My dilemma is car seats, they’re ridiculously expensive. DD has 3; one for my car, one for DHs and one for my dads who has has once a week. Swapping them about isnt really an option if one of us does pick up and the other drop off etc so I’m a bit 😳 about that when the time comes.

@Vil10 not found cereal to help nausea but great that works for you. A bit like @larrythelizard I just consumed carbs for 14 weeks to stop the nausea but I did massively go off fish and usually love it. The thought of it made me retch but cooked a prawn and chorizo paella at the weekend and the aversion seems to have gone!

Back in the land of the living this afternoon with the covid, yesterday was hellish and I thought we were going to have to call my dad to take DH as neither of us could move. It completely floored us but I am much better this afternoon. DH worse than me but it's just juggling both WFH with a 4 year old who can't go to nursery so a struggle. Hopefully she won't get it or will be inside for 2 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ hopefully I test negative over the weekend so I'm free to at least roam out for a walk for my birthday 🙈

bez91 · 04/01/2022 19:31

To take DD that should have said, I'm not sure my dad would take DH in seeing as he's old enough to look after himself 😆

SWAttempting · 04/01/2022 19:42

@Juno231 How did your scan go?! 🤞🏼

Crazydoglady123 · 04/01/2022 19:58

@blackcurrantqueen how exciting!!!! Have you got everything ready now?

@paintfairy @Minster2012 you just don't know what to do for the best re the vaccine. It was such a big no no when I started ivf and then when it was changed to okay but not first trimester but really and truthfully I don't feel comfortable until there's more long term research on the effects of it. I seem to hear so many people having bad side effects and especially heart problems since the jab I just don't feel it's something I'd want to risk. I just hope she comes sooner rather than later now so she's safe.

@paintfairy I used to have a Mothercare 3 wheeler travel system for DS when I had the horses and I bought a second hand 4 wheeler chassis of it for "nice". I've got an iCandy for madam and have done the same (but bought a cheap second hand spare chassis off eBay for DS football matches). Air tyres are great for making off road smooth too but buy a can of that tyre weld in case you get a puncture!

@Vil10 thanks. Tbh even if I changed my mind and had it now I wouldn't be fully protected in these last couple of weeks.
Oh and crunchy nut is my fave haha

@bez91 I had visions of your dad having to drag your DH into a car 🤣 Glad you're feeling better

Minster2012 · 04/01/2022 20:24

@paintfairy we had 2 prams from early on, both second hand, one for town & one bigger off road which just stayed up at home, as in we walked outside & just wheeled it through the door & parked it under the stairs. That one is very much like the out n about (it's a baby jogger summit x3) but is the out and about just a fixed front wheel? A fixed front wheel is necessary for running but a pain in the ass for going in shops. If the seat lies fully flat it's fine for newborns, it's just most ppl like to have PFB facing them to start with. We don't care really for us it's more about going seriously off road, like @Crazydoglady123 said big air tyres can get punctures but I had my tyres filled with foam so that didn't matter. We then have a baby jogger GT for the car/town & it's the easiest compact fold in the world & one handed push, huge hood, that's why we like it. 4 of our friends now have them. We have the carrycot for it for the first 5/6 months but it does lie flat so it's not necessary. The car seat you are only meant to keep baby in them for 45 mins max so we thought well we have to drive at least 15 mins to any shop so for us it seemed a bit pointless & I struggled to lift a car seat with a heavy child in (tested with my friends kids!) but most ppl get them, just be aware they are only for max upto a year & then you have to buy another. Like @larrythelizard says work out when & where & how you will use it & we can try assist to narrow down

@bez91 gosh the civic sounds awful for you, I really hope you can go out on your birthday, did you have any plans? So would you need 3 seats for this one is that what you are saying? Could you & your dad both use the same car seat initially but he have it as no isofix? Your DH may be old enough to look after himself but can he?!

@larrythelizard crappy white carbs are ok for a little bit but maybe @Vil10 has the answer with cereal? I have heard a few ppl say cereal is good

Juno231 · 04/01/2022 20:31

@SWAttempting sorry to keep everyone waiting! It went well! Measuring two days ahead at 8+3 and a strong heartbeat! It even looks like baby!

The lady could see diddly squat abdominally (i forgot but I think my uterus tilts backwards actually? Bodes well for the bump) so I had to empty my bladder and do it foof style.

@paintfairy I'm getting a pram second hand as well - hopefully just my friends old icandy as she's done with procreating!

Wow @Juno231, that’s a great pic for 8 weeks!

SWAttempting · 04/01/2022 20:40

@Juno231 Thank heavens!!! And amazing scan for that gestation!!

That was my last one - tummy scan and was 9+2

I have my 12 week scan on Friday at 12:30 🤞🏼

Minster2012 · 04/01/2022 21:05

Oh my goodness look at that @Juno231 that's such a good picture!! I'm so thrilled for you 🥰🥰🥰have you told many friends?
I also got one like @SWAttempting or worse I think where mine looked like an animal as they often do 🤪

Minster2012 · 04/01/2022 21:08

And @Juno231 I think now it's safe to cancel the IVF & do the referral, you are obviously lucky like me 🤩

SWAttempting · 04/01/2022 21:08

@Minster2012 Preggers with Turkeys 🦃

Haiyaa · 04/01/2022 21:15

Fantastic new on the scans @Juno231 and @SWAttempting and great pics, another hurdle down - you’ll soon be struggling to roll yourself out of bed whilst simultaneously being punched and prodded from the inside because baby is about as keen as you are to be getting out of bed just like me 😂

Wow @blackcurrantqueen, that’s not long at all! Will you be having steroids then? I am not looking forward to those injections, they hurt and take forever!

@paintfairy I understand your hesitation over the vaccine, it’s a very emotive subject. If it helps there is an absolute tonne of evidence that it is safe in pregnancy, summarised nicely by RCOG with links to further data here

www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

No medicine is ever trialled specifically in pregnancy (phase 1, 2, or 3) as it is unethical but was tested in animals and the USA have been vaccinating pregnant women since it was authorised so plenty of live births following vaccination to boot - it amounts to more data than they would have gotten for any other medication used in pregnancy. Coupled with the data r.e pregnant women in ICU’s (I believe around 20% of all covid related ICU beds are occupied by unvaccinated pregnant women) and that there are possible links to covid infections leading to placenta failure and stillbirth I personally felt on balance that the benefits outweigh the risks - but my risk is higher anyway working as a pharmacist in general practice exposed to lots of potential carriers of covid.

I will say though even with all that, I had my initial vaccines before pregnancy and waited until I had the all clear from my 20 week scan before having my booster to make sure everything is ok as it can be before having the vaccine, and not wondering if it could have been the vaccine if there was something wrong at the 20 week scan (I’m just a worrier and even worried that eating Parma ham might have contributed to my miscarriage last spring). I knew I wanted the vaccine but was much happier leaving it until after the 20 week mark as the main development is complete.

larrythelizard · 04/01/2022 21:21

Aha so deffo another diva then @blackcurrantqueen - C-Section at 38+5 sounds great though, not long to wait!

Dry cereal yes @Vil10 but not with milk 🤢 (Frosties here)

Ha I tried to get MIL to take DH last time he was ill so didn't seem that unusual shipping your DH off! Glad you're starting to feel better but are you really trying to work whilst ill with a small child in the house?! Surely this would be an OK time to be off sick?

Ooh yay lovely photo @Juno231!! So pleased all is well! That is an impressive kidney bean!

Looking good @SWAttempting - not long until your 12 week one then!

I think I'd love that @SWAttempting - I'm very much into planning ahead!!
