@czycoup yeah sleepsuits seem comfy for them rather than other outfits. For girls dresses will still be comfy but boy outfits other than sleepsuits at that stage seem so uncomfortable.

It is early but I've seen lots of second hand new born clothes on Facebook over Christmas so I've been thinking about getting some. However I've been getting myself in a bit of a tizzy about clothes because of not knowing how hot it will be. None of my friends have had summer babies. Those of you who already have DCs will they need sleepsuits and long sleeves when newborn or is that more an autumn/ winter thing?

czycoup · 03/01/2022 21:50

@GrowBabyGrow my DC was born during the hottest heatwave. We had a few sleep suits but during the worst of it they slept in a short sleeve vest. When they were born, the midwives/doctors dressed them in a vest, long sleeve sleep suit and wrapped in a towel/blanket.

They need to wear one more layer than you do because they can't regulate their temp and having been inside for 9 months that's much hotter than the outside (I think, I'm sure I read this).

Rolledthedice · 03/01/2022 22:31

Ladies, I have no idea what to buy yet - not even thought about it! Could do with a list of essentials to cover the first few months. 😅 I don’t want to waste money when they grow so fast, the freebies on Facebook groups seem sensible for clothing.

MrsNT · 03/01/2022 22:51

Dont buy any teddy bears or soft toys.. ull get those in gifts! Thats one thing ive learnt from my nephews time.

Matilda30 · 04/01/2022 08:12

I know it's early but with the Jan sales I've bought a chicco crib from Aldi and a Moses basket. I still have loads of clothes from my first but got rid of some of the bigger items as for a while we thought he'd be an only child! Can't believe how much stuff I have to buy again.

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 08:20

@matilda30 how much was the moses basket from aldi?

Very similar for me too - my son was born in a July and lived in sleep suits or vests and shorts for the first month or so.
I remember I bought lots of outfits and he only wore them once, maybe twice before he outgrew them. This time around I just plan on stocking up on sleep suits and keeping the baby in them for as long as possible...I don't think there's nothing cuter than a baby in a sleep suit!

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 10:14

@Rolledthedice we had a great list that friends sent us (which they received from their friends). I can list the main things if useful.

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 10:17

I took the easy route and our daughter was in sleepsuits until she was six months. I think she had one pair of knitted leggings and one jumper (winter baby) but they were barely used. She vomited a lot as a baby (reflux) so sleepsuits were easy to deal with as well as comfortable for her.

GrowBabyGrow · 04/01/2022 10:41

This is all really helpful re what to dress baby in! Thank you Flowers

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 11:00

Ladies have you told your employer? Im wondering if 16 weeks is too soon or should I wait till 20? I want to tell so that I dont have to make excuses when I have to go for appointments plus also get some relief from work load.

Matilda30 · 04/01/2022 11:19

@MrsNT sorry the Moses was actually from Asda, £36 incl the stand.

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 11:23

@matilda30 did you buy it recently? Ive bought chicco next to me from fb marketplace but was thinking whether to get a cheap moses basket for the 1st month to put baby in downstairs during the day. Not sure if it would be easy carrying chicco everyday downstairs and then back up at night

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 11:24

What are you ladies thinking of getting for initial days to put baby in during day time. Would a bouncer b ok from start?

Matilda30 · 04/01/2022 11:37

@MrsNT yes, it's this one, not arrived yet. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.direct.asda.com/george/baby/moses-baskets-stands/little-rocker-with-folding-stand-cream/050036184,default,pd.html

It'll be used downstairs and crib upstairs, just easier.

I told my employer quite early because it was just easier with appts and I had no reason not to. And I was feeling rough, although I somehow managed to work though it somehow but if she'd asked how I was feeling I would've said cos I was so nauseous a lot of the time

Prema112 · 04/01/2022 12:04

@MrsNT We used our sons buggy carry cot for daytime (and as it turns out often nighttime) sleeping and had a snozpod for the night. He hated the snuzpod until we put a sleepyhead in it as it was too big and he wanted to be all cushioned in

Olive60 · 04/01/2022 12:06

Had my 16 week MW appointment today. Not my usual mw. Really didn't like her! She just filled out paperwork from my 12week scan and that was it! I was told I won't be seen now until 28weeks as its my 2nd child even though its over 10years ago that I was last pregnant!

I'm going to get the Tutti Bambini Cozee XL crib as it expands from crib to cot from birth - 2 years and then you can buy an extension pack to turn it into a junior bed.

That's the only thing I've thought about! I won't start buying anything until around 28 weeks. The amount of rubbish I bought for my first still haunts me! I'll be keeping in super simple this time.

Prema112 · 04/01/2022 12:13

And we used a BabyBjorn Boucher from very early on which I'd highly recommend

Prema112 · 04/01/2022 12:14

*bouncer!

beansprout55 · 04/01/2022 12:49

Things are a bit better here, thanks for all your kindness and thoughts etc. Seeing how it goes. I got really sick on Sunday night, faints and vomiting, to then discover I had COVID. So that's taken over. Just fighting the flu symptoms now.

For those who have or have had Covid during your pregnancy, did you need to inform your midwife? I'm super anxious reading about the risks of pre-term/stillbirth. Wish I hadn't looked but I'm a wreck atm anyway so everything makes me anxious.

Matilda30 · 04/01/2022 13:05

Midwife listened to the heartbeat today but it took ages and she thinks I might have an anterior placenta. So obviously now I'm panicking about placenta accreta Confused

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 13:11

@beansprout55 so sorry to hear - hope you’re feeling a bit better already. I’d say you should let your GP know, and maybe the midwife too. In a number of areas they are prescribing blood thinners to pregnant women with covid, so worth speaking to them.

rathernotshare · 04/01/2022 13:15

@beansprout55 sorry to hear! I've got covid at the minute, left the midwives a message last week but I haven't heard anything back. I did speak to my GP to get my sick note extended and he didn't seem bothered to be honest so I'm taking that as a good sign!
