Hello all!

Just wondering if anyone is a similar stage to me and how you're feeling. A tiny part of me feels a bit emotional that this will be my last pregnancy and it's nearly over, but a very, very large part of me is thoroughly fed up!

Anyone else? :)

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles nope 😭 39 weeks tomorrow and my baby isnt even engaged! Not looking like he is keen to come at all!

Ooh hopefully they are contractions and they keep coming!

marykitty · 28/10/2021 22:02

Nope, 39+4, still waiting, today I even had to carry my toddler uphill for almost 2 miles (long story) and I was hoping it would start something but nope.........

8dpwoah · 28/10/2021 22:12

Oh ladies I've just had a memory pop back up for me, when I went in for my induction my Bishops score was 2 so there was practically nothing happening... 15 hours later I had a baby in my arms so don't be disheartened if you're showing no signs yet, it can still all change really quickly!

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 28/10/2021 23:27

Well I got out the bath and everything stopped Hmm

I hate this symptom spotting madness! I thought subsequent babies were meant to come earlier Angry he's been engaged for weeks now but not actually making any effort to come and meet us Grin

How are you doing @8dpwoah?

I do now not live in the UK and here they never offer sweeps.

Finger crossed for you @mrssunshinexxxFlowers

Thank you @8dpwoah, how is life there?
Bananapancakes6 · 29/10/2021 08:51

Thank you @8dpwoah thats reassuring! Hope you're enjoying your new babe.

8dpwoah · 29/10/2021 09:50

All good here thanks, she has slotted into life really well so far. I've had a nice easy recovery this time too apart from the afterpains for the first few days (if you're not on your first baby be ready for those!).

Hang in there ladies, every day is one closer to you not being pregnant any more, one way or another!

nanabow · 29/10/2021 11:10

Baby finally arrived on Wednesday morning.

Had a sweep at 8am on Tuesday, on/off irregular cramping started at 11am. I went to bed early and woke up at midnight with contractions 7 mins apart, called the hospital at 4am and had baby at 8am.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/10/2021 11:38

Congratulations @nanabow that sounds really positive ?! Hope it went ok for you. May I ask what gestation you were for sweep x

nanabow · 30/10/2021 10:24

@mrssunshinexxx

I was 39+5.

It was an alright experience really. My contractions being irregular made it really hard to judge what stage I was at. But luckily we only live 5 minutes from the hospital so when it suddenly became apparent I was very far along it wasn't too much of a panic.

marykitty · 30/10/2021 10:42

Congratulations to @nanabowFlowers

Ah @nanabow well done & congrats!

Has anyone who's still pregnant been spoken to about induction yet? If so, when are they recommending?

I don't think i mind a sweep/ waters being broken but i am absolutely sure I don't wsnt the hormone drip.

He still has a few days to appear of his own accord, but just thinking ahead. If i accepted the sweep/membrane rupture would i be allowed to decline further intervention after that? Or is it a case of once they've started they can't stop?

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles I asked my midwife for a sweep at my 38w appointment, obviously she said no. She said I can have one at 41 weeks but not before unless recommended by consultant. I believe you have your 40/41 week appointments with m/w and they offer you a sweep and offer to book the induction with your hospital but I don't think they go hand in hand, I think you can have a sweep with no booking in of the induction.

marykitty · 30/10/2021 22:18

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles as I had an EMCS after induction for DS1, an induction is not reccomended in my specific case. If I am still pregnant on my due date (in 3 days) we will book an ELCS for 41 weeks (9th on November circa). They are not making me go further due to some placenta issues I have. I will be monitored every 2 days after my due date to react in case of placenta failure.

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 30/10/2021 22:50

@Bananapancakes6 @marykitty ah thanks for the info!

I'm still optimistic that he'll come of his own accord but wondering what will happen if he doesn't. Induction sounds thoroughly unpleasant so keen to avoid if I can!

I've had two extremes (in time duration etc) of induction so I can tell you the steps as I understand it, DD1 was at 40 weeks, tailed off growth and DD2 was because I'd got to (incredibly after all the hassle in pregnancy) 41 weeks.

With my first one I was told it would be pessary, second pessary if needed, break your water at 2cm then straight on the drip. That's what happened with me, I was still barely 2cm so I asked for epidural when the drip went in and it was amazing. I think if they'd not been able to do my waters it would have been a C section but don't quote me. Stayed in about 36 hours after as we were on antibiotics, had to let everything settle and so on.

Having read a bit more in here about not necessarily having the drip straight away I was all geared up for insisting on pessaries then waters then a wait before the drip. However had one pessary, it was doing too much so had it out about 8 hours later, didn't settle, had the 'antidote', didn't work, baby born 15 hours after that first pessary went in and we were discharged from delivery. I'd packed to be in for a week again, felt a right plonker with all my luggage 😂.

I've got to be honest and say I totally preferred the first induction even though it took longer and was far more involved as it was very controlled and planned at each step, I could still feel to push with the epidural. Yes I had forceps and episiotomy with that one but the forceps were being waved around in this one too as baby was distressed, didn't need them in the end but it was a real whirlwind this time and a bit scary as the staff didn't expect it/didn't believe me things were going so quickly.

If I had to be induced again I'd choose the drip and the epidural again, I promise you I'm not just saying that to make you feel better about the prospect of the drip. On the other hand I suppose this one was almost a 'natural' birth as I only had paracetamol and gas and air and could feel very little thing which is what I thought I wanted this time 😂 I do think it's probably because she's a second baby that it went so quickly but we'll probably never know, so even with induction there's a chance you can get going and get away with little else in terms of intervention. Having the pessary is nothing, if you're ok with sweeps you'll have no bother with them popping in the pessary but you can ask for gas and air for any and all poking around anyway.

mrssunshinexxx · 31/10/2021 14:16

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles I don't blame you. My waters broke at the start of my labour which isn't ideal as then in theory you are put on the clock due to risk of infection so at 26 hours they started wittering about the drip I said no section and had one I was completely beat at the point anyway I just wanted to meet her asap

mrssunshinexxx · 31/10/2021 14:17

To add @Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles I had a sweep on wed at 38+5 it didn't do anything having another this wed at 39+5 hoping they gets things going

mrssunshinexxx · 31/10/2021 14:18

@marykitty are you having any scar pain ? I'm anxious about rupture I know it's v rare but I have quite a small gap
