Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

Wonderful news @GeorgiaMcGraw. When's your 12 week scan? Hopefully not too long to wait now.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 11/09/2021 14:56

Thanks @bubblybrit and @dyra. Annoyingly, my dating scan isn't until 7th Oct, 13+6! Don't know how I'm going to stay sane, I'm bursting to tell everyone about it! I am going to have to bite the bullet and get some maternity trousers though, can just fit into my biggest jeans, but only just. How is everyone doing?

bubblybrit · 11/09/2021 15:08

@GeorgiaMcGraw. I’ll also be 13+6 by the time I have my dating scan. Might not wait until then if everything ok with the NIPT that I had today (scan went really well but still need to wait for blood test results which aren’t likely to be available until 20th/21st Sept at the earliest.

I also have a work trip approaching where it will be difficult to hide. Not only the bump/bloat but also the fact that it’s a free cocktail bar in the evening and I won’t be drinking. I know I can order non alcoholic myself but we usually take turns to wait the mammoth queues!

I hear you on maternity wear. The travel to the event is 6 hours and I think I need a little more room round the waist xx

Oof, that's going to be a tough work trip, good luck with that! Did you go private for nipt? I'm a bit worried the dating scan at 13+6 will be too late for the normal tests (they can do it up to 14+1, but what if the baby grows a bit faster?). I just don't feel I can shell out a few hundred quid for an earlier nipt, and maybe I should just learn to relax a bit. I'm not high risk for anything so I should probably learn to relax (as if!).

Dyra · 11/09/2021 21:42

@GeorgiaMcGraw and @bubblybrit That's cutting it a bit fine on the part of the hospital! Shock I'd try phoning the ultrasound department and see if they can fit you in earlier. It's a sad fact, but they might have some cancellations.

It's ok if you can't get the screening tests done GeorgiaMcGraw. I couldn't with DD as she was too uncooperative (nothing has changed...) during the scan to get a measurement. The sonographer told me that as the nuchal space, along with everything else, looked normal, she was confident there was unlikely to be a trisomy. That was backed up by a low risk quad test result and then by the trio of anatomy scans (I did say DD was uncooperative....).

I'm starting to struggle with clothes too. Jeans were already tight (stupid lockdown Sad) and now are plain uncomfortable. I managed to cope last time by sizing up at the end of the second trimester, and wearing as few clothes as I could get away with in the third trimester, thanks to the 2019 summer heat wave. Not going to be possible this time around what with winter and all.

bubblepond · 12/09/2021 07:08

Yay @GeorgiaMcGraw so glad your scan went well!

Like others I'm also still waiting for my 12 week scan appointment - 11+4 now! The midwife said it is usually done around 13 weeks at our local hospital.
The only issue is I'm working nights the week I turn 13 weeks so I rang up on Friday to see if I could request not to be on specific days and see if I had already been given a slot but they said I had to speak to a different team who weren't there on Friday. Fingers crossed can get something sorted!

GeorgiaMcGraw · 12/09/2021 10:00

@dyra, thanks, that's really reassuring to hear. Also, I've just realised that although the NHS think I'll be 13+6, according to my private scans I'll be 13+4, so not quite as bad. @bubblepond that's so stressful you don't have an appointment yet, good luck in chasing them. I suspect a lot of Trusts don't have many senior sonographers to do the dating scans, and if any have had to isolate or have been on summer holidays, that will back things up a bit. I do also wonder if there has been a bit of a baby boom (or mini boom at least) - maybe couples who waited a bit at the start of covid but then realised it wasn't going away.

12week scan on Thursday and today I feel nothing..definitely starting to feel nervous. I haven't had any early scans and starting to wish I did. Is anyone in the same boat? X
GeorgiaMcGraw · 12/09/2021 17:54

Hi @Gotu, not in the same boat as you as I've had early scans, but just wanted to say it's probably fine if your symptoms are declining/light at this point, I think that's fairly normal as you get to the end of the first trimester. Weirdly, getting nervous can mask your symptoms too. I know it's impossible, but try to distract yourself/relax. Not long to go now, and I hope you get the best possible news on Thursday!

bubblybrit · 12/09/2021 19:31

@GeorgiaMcGraw. Yeah it was a private nipt. I’m a bit of an anxious person so although it’s expensive it was worth it for me. We had it with my DD and I remembered being able to enjoy my pregnancy once the results came in. Hoping for the same with this little one!

I’m sure having the scan at 13+6 will be fine as you’d have thought they would have brought the scan forward if any concerns?

bubblybrit · 12/09/2021 19:35

@Dyra. I’m ok with my dating scan being 13+6 as just had a private nipt so declined any of the additional tests as nipt is way more accurate so no point using nhs resource. Still need to attend my dating scan as the nhs won’t recognise private scans and want to do their own (well in my area anyway)!

Ania89 · 12/09/2021 19:41

Hi ladies :) I hope u don’t mind me joining this thread. I am due in early April with my first baby :) so far all is good but I am feeling super anxious and constantly worry that something will go wrong. Do you experience something similar ?

I had a private scan just yesterday but it calmed me down for a few hours only !

SaraKitty · 12/09/2021 19:58

Hi Everyone ! I’m 8 weeks (8+4 by LMP). I haven’t had any scans yet but my first one is on Tuesday . I will meet with my consultant then as talk about a VBAC also . I have 2 girls already - 1 assisted vaginal (forceps) and 1 elective CS (personal choice after birth trauma). However for this little bean I want to try a VBAC. It will have been 3.5 years after my CS when this little one is born so hoping scar rupture shouldn’t be high risk. Is anyone else planning a VBAC?

Hayesdays · 12/09/2021 21:00

Hello all! I was lurking on the other thread but thought I’d join in now! I’m between 9-10 weeks I think (Pfizer vaccine messed up my cycle - long story!) so I had an early scan at 7 weeks and sonographer said it measured more like 6 weeks, which makes sense as I didn’t get my positive until a week after period was due…obviously I’m worrying that everything is ok but trying to keep busy for a few more weeks until 12 week scan!

@SaraKitty yes I’d like a VBAC! I had emergency C-section with my first at 36 weeks. I went into labour and she was breech so we decided c-section was the quickest And safest option. My midwife was really supportive at the booking in appointment. She said as long as there were no complications through pregnancy I could have a normal labour on the consultant ward but still be midwife led. Im really pleased as the consultant led ward is really nice at my hospital! Just need to keep my fingers crossed that we have a lovely smooth journey 🤞

Also congratulations to everyone!

Have any second time mums thought about doing NCT or anything again? Last time I had lots of friends who were pregnant but this time I’ve none.

Gotu · 12/09/2021 21:24

Thank you, want Thursday to be tomorrow very excited at the same time 🥰
bubblybrit · 12/09/2021 22:07

@Ania89. Welcome and congrats! It’s completely normal to feel anxious so don’t worry about that. I’m 11+3 and have had 3 private scans so far (I had a MMC in Dec and hence why my anxiety is through the roof but I’d still have had one private scan even if the MMC hadn’t of happened).

bubblybrit · 12/09/2021 22:15

Hi @SaraKitty. No experience of VBAC but wanted to say good luck with your scan on Tuesday!

@Hayesdays. I’m a second time mum but don’t think I’ll be doing NCT. I went whilst pregnant with my DD but don’t feel it would be as helpful this time round. Perhaps to meet other new mums but for me it’s not a concern. I barely stay in touch with the mums that I met first time round. The early stages of pregnancy are sooo slow. Best to try and keep busy as you say. Although I feel as if I’ve already switched off from work which isn’t a good thing considering I’m not planning to start maternity leave until early March 😬

Dyra · 12/09/2021 22:52

Welcome to all our new joiners!

@Hayesdays Also a second time mum and probably not going to do NCT a second time. I will admit I am tempted purely for the chance of having a local NCT group. My first group was put together as an extra session due to demand. As a result we all live quite a distance from each other, and found it hard to get together even pre-pandemic. We still have sporadic contact, but it's getting much less as our little ones are getting older. My main reason for not doing NCT is because I could have taught the sessions on birth and labour myself.

So exciting to see some 12 week scan pictures come through next week!

Hayesdays · 13/09/2021 08:19

Thank you @Dyra and @bubblybrit it’s good to hear your thoughts. I have friends who see their NCT friends weekly so I thought it might be a good way to meet people. However your experiences show it’s not a guaranteed way to make friends!

Cxjai792 · 13/09/2021 11:03

Nervyy · 13/09/2021 12:12

Feeling very lucky - we had a private scan yesterday and baby is now measuring 11 weeks (11 weeks 1 day today!) and all is looking great 😭🥰 baby had a big jump around on screen and we even got a surprise 4d sneak peek!
